Well, I no longer practice medicine. Practiced for a few years before going into business and haven't looked back since then as business has been doing excellently well, easily out-matching whatever benefits I can get from practicing in the UK or Canada or wherever.

However, I always find time, at least every month, to donate my medical skills as a way to give back to the society, to the country that gave me such a valuable degree at almost no cost. Nigeria subsidized my medical training, I got my medical degree for less than $100 a year compared to my counterparts abroad who had to cough out tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars or get themselves neck deep in debt or pay over half their income in taxes just to get an MBBS, and I will forever be grateful for that.

As things currently are, Nigeria is just spending huge amounts of money subsidizing the healthcare systems of other countries with cheap manpower, especially the UK's NHS.

Medical education is expensive. That's why as rich as the UK is, they rather snatch doctors from other poorer countries rather than establish more medical schools for their citizens to fill in their shortage of medical professionals. Nigeria does the heavy spending by subsidizing medical training and then looses it all to other countries, effectively subsidizing those countries.

Nigeria has to realize this. Anyone who wants to attend government subsidized medical schools should either be made pay the real cost of their training or should sign bond agreements to serve the country for an agreed number of years before leaving to anywhere. Anyone not okay with this, should attend a private university or go and school abroad. You can't pay $100 a year as tuition and expect to earn US or UK salary in Nigeria. Yes, the Nigerian government has its own faults especially with the state of the public health sector but honestly speaking, my Nigerian medical counterparts are also too arrogant, expecting to be paid dollars and pounds in Nigeria.

I love your sympathetic tone. But i also want to break it to you that there are many public universities in US and Europe that are completely tuition free for their citizens, there are some with tuition fees waiver too, different forms of schorlaship opportunities.

I don't know where you got yours for 100$, but even my younger sister who is still in school (State) is not paying less 400k per session.

If the Nigeria Government can't subsidize education, then what will exactly will be their usefulness?
The Medical students graduating from schools like ABUAD and Madonna paying Millions, won't they end up in a rat infested dilapidated hospitals if they don't migrate too?


Subsidizing Education is not an excuse for what is happening ,Nigeria have the money and resources.

Lol, how do German Doctors earn? Including Sweden, Finland, Greece etc. Those countries are basically tuition free, but that doesn't mean they underpay their health professionals. Your leaders are paying Doctors 5k hazard allowance fee but they can borrow money in Nigeria's name and still loot it. They even looted the medical supplies given to Nigeria in form of charities.

It's very cheap to earn a medical degree in Nigeria, so please kindly pick up your form and go and get yourself one.



@op, the reason why we still have 'many' Doctors in Nigeria is basically because of the increasing difficulties of migration, especially when it comes to exams and monetary aspect as many people are only focusing on US, Canada and Europe.

It is no secret that even many African countries have left Nigeria behind, but Nigerians don't mind as their leaders loot away their future but ASUU is selfish, Doctors are selfish.

If you want to migrate, you can use plan B. Google some good African countries, preferably WA & EA. Find the website of their professional bodies, then read about registration and how to become a member.

Some require you to take an exam and interview, some don't.

All require you to pay a token as registration fee.

Some require you to pay for the verification of your Documents/ certificates as foreign trained.
Etc. You can also mail or call them if you have any enquiries.
This is a DIY stuff that can be done without any agent, as long as you are educated and smart.
You can go to any of those countries first and use them as a stepping stone while you pursue your dream of going to a first world country.

Trust me, you are in a better stead applying for a Canadian visa from Namibia than applying from Nigeria.

Both professions will give you opportunities. It's now left for individuals to make the most of it. But the Pharmacists working in the hospitals are not really trying, just sit down, take the Doctor's prescriptions and dispense, they also take inventory of drugs. That's too lame for someone who has spent 5,6 years in the college. But most of them tends to go into business and they make a lot of money from there, a graduate of Agric science can also go into business and make money.


The bottomline is that, you can't say categorically which of the two professions offers more wealth, there's no standard yardstick for that unless you want to use the Government's salary scale. So it depends on what individuals make out of it.

Your politicians have used the pandemic to enrich themselves massively. All the donations made to the country to fight the pandemic can't even be accounted for, they looted the money and looted the materials sent all together. Or are you one of the beneficiaries of the home school feeding program?

In Nigeria, Doctors have lost many patients to small things like lack of electricity. Hold your Government responsible.

What do you mean apart from provision of PPE? Is that even excusable? They swore an oath to save lives, not to get themselves killed. Even before the advent of the pandemic i watched as a young doctor lost her life cos of the condition she was subjected to while treating a Lassa fever patient.

You are talking about New Zealand, please go and check the money allocated to health and education in that country and compare it to your country first. I'm sure all the health workers in that country are not only well paid but they also have life insurance. But your government here lied about increment of hazard allowance to the media but as of yet, nothing has been done.

It took ages before the paltry Minimum wage of just 30k to be approved, but the politicians got the latest Camry, even amidst the pandemic and they are always sending Millions into the personal accounts of their side chicks.

In fact, all ministries and para -statals are supposed to go on an industrial action, including TUC, NLC, television and radio broadcasters ,NUPENG, etc. That's part of the only way to get the country back, but if you keep encouraging mediocrity as you are used to, nothing will change. Nigeria is a very wealthy country, but very few people gave cornered the wealth and they are not ready to let go easily.

Leave the doctors alone and face your government.

He works for the money, he can as well decides to squander it if he chooses but being a responsible husband and father that he is, he brings it home so whatever he gives me as allowance is highly welcome and appreciated.. There are alot of other things that needs his attention including utility bills, kids school fees, investments etc so it would be best if the woman understands and work to support the family rather than waiting for the man to shoulder all the responsibilities, in case anytime the man couldn't meet up with the family upkeep, the woman can comfortably support the household till he gets back on his feet again.

I recently bought the Tecno Spark 4 over both Infinix hot 8 and Redmi 8a.

I didn't choose the Redmi 8a because of the scarcity of the spare parts and also that the spare parts are expensive.
I am also not sure that I can do without fingerprint (Redmi 8a doesn't have)

I also didn't choose the Infinix hot 8 because of the weight,slow charging and it is also slow when compared to the spark 4.

I am a part 4 physiotherapy student. You either pick to go for physiotherapy or occupational therapy immediately you enter part 2, we have courses we do separately right from part 2.. Are you even aware some schools like ui and Bowen have just physiotherapy and nothing like Medical rehabilitation.

And Law and others just got back their accreditation, so what the Bleep are you saying about that. Your problem is lack of knowledge. Learn to confirm something before you make your ignorance known.

You are ignorant and spoilt, coupled with lack of respect. You should know your elders can be anywhere and some people actually sat in those HSLT before you. Back then we received lectures together with med rehab students and the only departmental courses they did in part 2, at least in first semester were intro to medical rehabilitation and electrophysics 1.
I know this because my best friend then was in Med rehab. What you should have said was that there has been a change in the curriculum.

If you still want to argue, you can pm me and come and meet us at OAUTHC, that's where we are managing now while planning to migrate.

baba...Oau Law is fully accredited now. and besides I am a physiotherapy student,oau. I'm in my penultimate and doctor of physiotherapy is just a new implementation in all schools with physiotherapy as a course.

They had the accreditation, since probably before you were even born. The problem was that they lost it sometime ago, when they started admitting 400, 500+ students at once so as to accumulate enough acceptance fee. They also lost accreditation for Dentistry too, though they might have gotten both back now.

By the way, i think you are a Medical Rehabilitation student, unless you are already in your 5th year, where you'll be asked to pick between occupational and physical therapy.
