How to Be a Virtuous Woman The characteristics of a virtuous woman have been explored in religious texts and in the works of philosophers throughout the ages. While each source can vary on the exact details, there are a few common principles that most great thinkers agree on. If you are aiming to be a virtuous woman, here are a few principles you can review to get started. Beauty Understand that true beauty lies within. True beauty is virtuous because true beauty develops out of good character. Before you consider looking virtuous, you need to look internally so that you actually become virtuous. o True inner beauty and virtue go hand-in-hand. If you practice the life of a virtuous woman, you will also be a beautiful woman. Let your outward beauty reflect your inward beauty. Maintaining inner beauty does not mean that you cannot look beautiful on the outside, as well. Beauty is harmonious, so if you are beautiful on the inside, you should take care of your body and treat it with enough respect so that others can glimpse your beauty, as well. o According to St. Thomas Aquinas, the three characteristics of beauty are radiance, harmony, and wholeness. Beautiful things shine, and their radiance can be seen externally. For beauty to be complete, outward beauty must harmonize with inward beauty. In order for beauty to be whole, it should exist outwardly and inwardly. o This does not mean that you need to be supermodel-pretty or hung up on your looks. It does mean that you should not be afraid to look your best. There is a certain amount of self-satisfaction one feels when looking in the mirror and liking what one sees. Loving yourself enough to strive for this sensation is a healthy and virtuous amount of outward beauty. Do not use your outward beauty to tempt others. A difficult task for women nowadays is balancing the fine line between looking their best while dressing modestly. You do not need to look frumpy, but before putting on an outfit, ask yourself if the clothes you are about to wear may tempt others into vice in thought or action. If so, choose a different outfit. o A revealing outfit might temporarily attract men, but men of character are won over by women of virtue. o While men are responsible for their own thoughts and actions, they are also visual beings and tend to be influenced easily by what they see. Being kind enough and respectful enough to give the men around you one less source of temptation is another mark of virtue. Treat your body well. There is a certain amount of virtue in respecting your body and treating it well. Stay healthy by eating healthy foods and staying in shape. o Of course, you can be a virtuous woman even if you are not in perfect shape or even if you indulge in the occasional piece of junk food. Respect is a virtue, however, and that includes self-respect. If you respect your body, you should at least try to care for it well enough to stay healthy and avoid exposing your body to things that are intentionally harmful, like drugs or abusive amounts of alcohol. Act in service to others. While you should not ignore your own needs, you should think highly of the needs of others and be there to take care of those needs when you can. o An obvious example of service would be volunteering your time in a formal situation to help others. Less obvious, however, are informal ways you volunteer your time and energy. For example, a virtuous woman will be there for a friend who needs a shoulder to cry on, even if it means missing out on a favorite show or limited sale. Be hospitable, generous, and kind. Kindness is about more than nice words and pleasant smiles. To be truly kind to someone, you need to approach that person with a giving spirit. o To be kind means that you should be the sort of person whom others can turn to for positive words and actions. It is not enough to simply exchange a few nice words in passing. Complete the tasks given to you. Do not falter on your responsibilities. If you are given a task at school or work, finish it in a timely manner and without procrastinating. o Another way to look at this principle is to label it as self-discipline. Even if no one is watching and you are able to procrastinate on a task or put less than your best effort into it, you should still do your best with it and complete the task promptly. True virtue is not found merely in the actions that others can see, but in the actions you perform when no one is looking. Use your money wisely. You can indulge occasionally, but on the whole, you should not be irresponsible with your money or spend it flippantly. Frugality is a type of virtue. o This does not mean that you should be stingy or cheap, though. o It does mean that you should take care of your financial obligations before using your money on indulgences. In other words, you should not be spending money on an exotic vacations and clothes if it means leaving bills and loans unpaid. Use your time wisely. Everyone needs time to relax, but overall, you should try to stay active rather than falling into lazy or slothful behavior. o Take time to relax and recharge as needed, since you can only be at your best when you are sufficiently well-rested. o Do not stay active simply for the sake of staying active, though. You do not need to mess up a room just so you can stay active cleaning it. Do not create more work for yourself, but be willing to do the work that needs to be done. Inward Virtue Have faith. Traditionally, having faith refers to faith in God or some religious principle. If you do not believe in God, however, you can still exercise the principle of faith by being faithful in your pursuit of virtue. o A biblical example of a virtuous woman is Ruth, who chose to follow the God of Israel in spite of the difficulty it brought her, when it would have been easier for her to return to Moab and worship the gods of her childhood. o This story can teach a valuable lesson even if you do not practice faith in Judeo-Christian contexts. Ruth had committed herself to faith in the God of Israel and was ready to face the consequences, even though backing down would have been easier. You, too, should commit yourself to your faith—in God, or in the goodness of virtue—and remain faithful in spite of the challenges. Keep your body pure. Another way to phrase this would be to respect your body. Treat your body as a treasure and do not give it away to just anyone. o Traditionally, keeping your body pure means waiting until marriage before having sex. Nearly every major religion will agree on this point. o Even if you have no religion to claim, the principle of purity still applies to you. Sex should be treated as something special that should only be cherished between two people in love. Be receptive. Instead of stubbornly sticking to your own opinions regardless of whether they are right or wrong, you should be open to critique and advice. Weigh outside influence carefully to determine if it is beneficial or harmful and act accordingly. Cultivate reason. Women tend to be very emotional beings, and the downside of emotion is that it can often blind or cripple reason. A virtuous woman accepts her emotions but uses reason to temper her reactions. o Govern yourself by wisdom rather than by folly. This is a biblical principle taken from the Book of Proverbs, but it can be applied to your life even if you are not a Christian. You can listen to your heart for guidance, but ultimately, you must judge a situation with your mind, using the wisdom you have built up throughout your life to accurately assess things. Virtue in the Home Respect your parents. Your parents are responsible for bringing you into the world and raising you to become the woman you currently are. To be a virtuous woman, you need to show them respect by adhering to their rules during your youth and by continuing to listen and respect their ideas as an adult. o If your parents mistreat you, of course, this is another matter altogether. You need to love yourself as well as your parents, and if the best thing for you is to get away from an abusive situation, doing so is the most virtuous action you can take. Respect your husband, if applicable. If you are married, you need to love and listen to your husband. Your marriage is a partnership, and your husband is expected to respect you, as well, of course. o You do not need to obey your husband's every command, but if you married a man of character, he will not want to do anything to cause you harm. As long as this is true, then you need to at least respect your husband by discussing points of disagreement and considering his perspective before mutually reaching a conclusion. o Fidelity is another way for you to respect your husband. You need to be faithful to him, and must never cheat on him. Be a loving mother, if applicable. If you have children, you must put their needs above your own. Raise them according to a virtuous example and help them to develop into virtuous men and women themselves. o You need to nurture your children and attend to their needs, even when it means self-sacrifice on your part. For instance, a virtuous woman and mother will tend to her ill child even if it means catching the bug herself. o You also need to discipline your children with care and wisdom so that they know the difference between right and wrong. Developing Virtue Orient yourself to the mean, not the extremes. This is a principle first discussed by Aristotle. Too much of a good thing can turn into something bad. Virtue can often be found in the middle ground, between two extremes of a characteristic. o For example, take self-love. An extreme excess of this principle will result in narcissism, but an extreme deficiency will produce low self-esteem. You need to love and respect yourself to show love and respect to others, but you need to love yourself in moderation so that you do not get carried away. Commit yourself to a virtuous life. If you really want to be a virtuous woman, you need to prepare yourself for a lifetime commitment. A virtuous life is not an act you can put on for a few days. True virtue is a lifestyle. Practice virtue until it becomes habit. You can commit yourself to a virtuous life without becoming a perfectly virtuous woman overnight. The best way to create virtue in yourself is to practice virtuous behaviors so often that they become new habits. Do not be discouraged by past mistakes or mistakes you make along the way. Ultimately, if you practice principles of virtue long enough, they will become habits and characteristics of your overall person.

Nowadays, we have a huge number of devices and gadgets around us that are supposed to make our daily lives easier. It’s what we’re most focused on, our normal day-to day life – but what if something serious happens, one of the things we’d rather not think about? A fire, a burglary, a child disappears? Some items that can save you in these situations you might own already, some you maybe don’t know yet exist. 1. Flashlight Most of us have a flashlight at home. Somewhere. It can be of great help when there’s a power outage, for example. The problem is that most of us don’t know where it’s hiding, and if we find it, the batteries are probably empty. See that you store one or several flashlights in a place you remember, and store batteries next to it. 2. Radio In case of a natural disaster, a radio can be your line of communication when for example telephone nets break down. It might be your only way of receiving important information and updates. Store a battery-driven radio together with bottled water, non-perishable foods, clothes and other necessities you keep to be prepared. 3. Burglar alarm A burglar alarm is an excellent device that makes your home more secure and lets you feel safe. With one little code before you leave and after you come back, your entire home will be secured. The entire neighborhood will know if it’s breached, not to mention the security firm who will call or come over on the spot. Nowadays there are a plethora of different systems available, many are less complicated to install and less expensive than you think. 4. Smoke Detector A smoke detector should be matter of course in every home. It’s easily set up and doesn’t need any maintenance, except for occasional battery changes. Smoke detectors have saved countless lives – you think you’d wake up in case of a fire, but chances are you won’t. Install a detector on every level of your home and don’t forget to test them regularly. 5. Timers There are several different kinds of timers on the market. With the most common ones, you simply enter the start and stop time and plug it into an outlet. The device connected to it will then only be active between those times. More advanced versions can be installed for example into your stove. After a certain time, these timers will turn off the stove automatically. These devices can be live savers if you forget to turn the stove off, and are frequently used when elderly persons live on their own 6. Safety Plugs These have been around for a long time, and they work today as well as they did before. Houses tend to have more and more electrical outlets, and even though no one seems to know why, babies and toddlers seem to be drawn to them like a moth to the light. Buy and place a gang of these and save your kids from serious injury. 7. Land-line This might seem really old fashioned to you, since so many people nowadays only use cell phones. With those, you can carry your home phone with you, so what’s not to like? What people tend to forget is that mobile networks are much more vulnerable than landlines in for example extreme weather. If you don’t have a landline, you may be without a line of communication to the outside world, and you won’t be able to make emergency calls. Remember also that cordless phones won’t work during a power outage. 8. GPS Tracking Devices GPS tracking is the newest thing in child safety. Since they’re not as expensive anymore, they are used by many parents. They want to be sure were their child is and that it is safe at all times. Simply fasten the small tracker on your child’s jacket or backpack, and whenever you want to you can tune in and check that your child is not skipping school, or something more sinister is happening. 9. Home Surveillance Equipment With today’s technical advances, home surveillance is not only for mansions anymore. Cameras have become much cheaper, and installation is not difficult. Even us people with “normal” homes can afford a high security standard. This is a great way of knowing everything that’s going on in and around your home, whether anything sinister is going on or not. And criminals are sure to be intimidated by visible cameras! 10. Video Intercom System Do you live alone or you simply don’t want you or your children to open the door to anyone unknown? Then a video intercom system is for you. You’ll be able to identify anyone who rings at your door at a glance! There are so many scammers and burglars around who trick people by ringing at their door and trying to get them to open their homes. This can happen to everyone, so a video intercom system will put one more layer of security between you and the scammers. 11. Child Locator Child locators are the newest trend to keep track of your kids, most of all in crowded places. Have you ever been on vacation in Disneyland and tried to keep track of one of more excited little ones? It’s almost impossible without either kids or parents getting seriously frustrated. This little gadget has two parts – one that you fasten for example to your kid’s shoe, and another one you keep. When you activate yours, the one your child is wearing will produce a sound that you’re able to hear even at some distance. 12. Magnetic Door Alarm Magnetic door alarms can be ideal for someone who doesn’t want to install an entire alarm system, or for someone who wants to go the extra mile. They are extremely easy to install, one half on the door jamb and the other half on the door itself. When it’s activated and someone opens the door, it produces a sound that is so loud that you want to crawl under the next table. It’s guaranteed to deter anyone from coming in who’s not supposed to! 13. Baby Monitor with Wireless Night Vision Camera All parents are used to the kind of nagging worry you feel when you and your baby aren’t in the same place. Of course there are baby monitors to tell you when your little one is crying and needs your attention. This new kind of monitor lets you see your baby as well, even with the lights off. You can make sure that everything is as it should be, or simply watch it sleep. 14. Tasers Tasers can save your life. They will incapacitate any assailant without actually harming them in the long run. You and your family will feel safe and secure even if you’re out after dark. In most states, you’re able to carry a Taser without needing permission. They can be a great alternative if you don’t want to have firearms in the house. 15. Parental Controls Parental controls seem like such an easy thing. Parents use it most of the time so that their child won’t stumble upon inappropriate content on the net, or to limit their computer time. What many don’t think about is that through blocking these sites and forums, you can also protect your children from internet predators who pose as children and try to lure your child in. |

Dude....please before u decide on what to do kindly see the movie...*savages* |
This also should serve as an eye-opener to parents who leave their precious children in the control and mercy of such strangers. Money can never equal the lack of care that should be given to kids from parents. Such money is not going to bring a child’s life back. Please parents… be more considerate and allow your children some time of yours. The kid shown in the video is very young and I cant imagine how this mother could leave such a young child at the mercy of another strange woman. Grand parents make wonderful caretakers for those few parents who have to work full time. It is also very important to monitor the activities happening at home when we are not present. Hidden cameras and other monitoring gadgets should be made mandatory at such households for the betterment of the innocent and unfortunate children. I would like to request the mother of this child to resign her job and take care of her traumatised child and relieve her of any bitter memories |
