It's part of their responsibility to provide housing...food shelter and clothing are basics, it's not a business. In America and Europe they are shelters and project housing built by government for the poor. Stop sounding like you can't comprehend. 1.4m -900k is equal to 500k..so tell me how is that not 40% above the basic yearly rent...?? Or you are so poor at mathematics..smh..

There is legal fee going to landlord or his lawyer, there is service charge for servicing the place you will live, also goes to landlord, there is caution fee all in that total N1.4million...so hope you understand better, agent only get 10% of rent.

The agents are the reasons houses are expensive for rents in nigeria most especially lagos.

You will hear that a house yearly rent is 500k and you will hear total package is 700k..like almost 50% extra to be paid all in the name of agency fees , caution fees and nonsense things..

Agency fees that is not supposed to be more than 10% , naija agents will charge even up to 40% ..smh

You people forget that government job is to cater for the people from what it makes from revenue and taxes, government is not a private business, because it collect taxes, and revenue (public funds), hence providing welfare to the people is an obligation. Government is not a private company...you educated clowns sometimes make public servants more corrupt...if government is not providing welfare, housing and basic needs of the people, that means politicians will eat all the revenue.

Scarcity is the real problem, it's demand and supply. Government of Lagos should build high rise low cost apartments in the Lekki/Epe corridor, a lot of free lands there, if government can build 10 blocks of 30 units of flats each, it will go a long way.

A lot of jobs was created for the unemployed through Real estate facilitation/agency business, most are graduate who are surviving on their own after being failed by the government... government should provide more low cost housing like Jakande of blessed memory did.
