I agree the kids there are American/britico wanna be.

If you go to some places you will think you are abroad

1) they steal our money (government officials)
2) Most work in ExxonMobil and Chevron Texaco and hold managemnet positions in these companies. They are also "expatriates"   grin, most of them studied abroad, then worked for sometime and then came back to Nigeria and are hired by MNC at disgusting amounts of money
3) They work in our failing banks in positions such capacities as MD/CEO
4) Old Money (Yes we have some of them in Nigeria who started the stealing and looting quite early such as the Ibrus and Abebes (Stella obasanjo family)

e.t.c

Yep inequality in Nigeria is just mind-boggling. Abeg you should return quickly and go and chop your own money. Nothing dey obodo-oyinbo that cannot be matched.

Thank for the validation my brother, People may label cap28
a conspiracy theorist but politics is all about covert plans

most can see that their has been a common thread in the way certain

O.K THE military council is holding the country together in Egypt

It either they change the substance of the politics in the country
which means the people got what they wanted or they just change the form ie remove the head but keep "the body politic" in tact. If the latter happens then the so called gains of the people were rolled back and nothing

Kobojunkie, you need to broaden your horizons and read more broadly, try and understand american foreign policy and it will help you understand issues like this a bit more.  There is nowhere in the world that any group openly comes out to declare to the world that it is involved in covert activties to destabilise or undermine its own govt in collaboration with a foreign govt.  Try reading up on the CIA and how they operate around the world.

Does it make sense to you that a group of people who are engaged in covert activity with a foreign intelligence organisation will go on national tv to declare openly to their own people that they are being backed by the same country who have kept them in bondage for the past 30 years?

You're one of those people who mistakingly thinks that racism is the ultimate evil - you prolly think it's about skin colour too. many people have superiority complexes (which is essentially what racism is) and it's not always about race. e.g you meet someone who is silly, then  you will most likely think that you are better than them (even if just subconsciously). Do you not think that if Asians were as undeveloped as Africans have been throughout history that they would have been treated exactly the same as us? This is not about skin colour -it's about respect. It's time to take this into our own hands and build up our countries to garner respect - if you're so worried about racism, my friend, this this is the way to finally eradicate it. Just watch how people all over bow down to China now ( just look at the clips of Obama's latest meeting with the Chinese Pres)- that is called respect, and THAT is what Africa needs. It's not about the evil white man, it's about clueless US
O.k the Bolded part tells me that you never went to Nursery, Primary or Secondary
school in the UK, so you are just a "Mis-informed immigrant" who feels

CAP28 SAID BELOW

Quote from: cap28 on January 27, 2011, 04:11 PM
The first thing id like to correct is your definition of racism - racism is about having a superiority complex AND having the power and resources to back up your prejudices or superiority complexes.  The fact that  a white person dislikes you for being black or feels superior to you because you are black is not the issue, the real issue is that he can actually do something that will adversely affect your life BECAUSE you are black ie like not hiring you, not allowing you to live in a certain area, not giving you access to proper health care, having you locked up in prison for somethign that a white person would get a fine for - etc  THAT'S RACISM -

YOU SAID BELOW,

archive:
please check where i highlighted bold to see a more accurate definition of racism.

now, what baffled me is your ridiculous support of a treacherous autocrat - just because he got rid of that oh so evil force called 'the white man'. you know what? at the end of the day they saw what was not being used to it's full potential (e.g africa) and took it. yes it was bad and unfair but so is life. yes, blacks are at the bottom of the rung worldwide but can you not see that that is our fault? not theirs. we lost the race. however, it's not too late. empires rise and fall and a lot of history is yet to be written. it could take 50 years tops for nigeria to become a superpower itself. yes. that is not such an outrageous claim. our population is rocketing and more importantly the band of working age (18-50) is rising. china's workforce age is actually shrinking. with this manpower, a good governnemt, a change in values, and hopefully neighbouring african countries that are also developing, nigeria could be unstoppable. who cares about wht south african women who think they're too good for black people? i care more about black govts that are allowing their own people to starve!! or mugabes who's brutally murder thousands!! which one do you think is more evil?
Oh Dear u are really turning out to be a "patsy Immigrant"

Oh Snap! so what the true definition of Racismhuh

Please enlighten us who were born and grew up in Western Europe/North America and have also lived in Nigeria?

Can you give me your definition please,

This is it. People like cap28 moan about how we were put at a disadvantage by europeans. But why was this allowed to happen in the first place? why weren't we able to defend ourselves? why were some of us sold off to europeans in mass numbers? I'm not putting the slave trade as solely the fault of africans (before some posters start slobbering at the mouth) BUT where was our solidarity then? where was our want to advance then?

Get real. We didn't have it, so they took it. That's te game and we LOST. sad but true. i'm sure you're an adult - realise that life is just unfair

If you're talking about REAL solidarity amongst people of the same nation, then great. But Nigeria is a great example of where people don't have any respect for their own people, let alone their own families in a lot of cases. Let's start wit ourselves before we whine about what the europeans did, and will be doing eh? Or is self-reflection simply too much hard work?

i reside in the west and am currently, i live in a city full of ex-patriots at the moment. and guess what? i'm playing the game, which means i'm entering into those communities that you believe are locked to the non-whites. there's a glass ceiling, sure, but i'm going places, and that, my friend, is all any of us can try to do in this life.

DO and set an example, instead of using this forum as a platform to air your tired and meaninless griefs.

Cap28, you’re bang on the money, however, where we differ is that there are two aspects to the imperialism that Africans were (some argue, are being) subjected to. The obvious which you’ve mentioned is Western, but the other, which is a lot older is that of Islamic Imperialism, and perhaps we are in for a phase 3, that of Asiatic Imperialism, with the Chinese and Indians sharpening their claws since we are not short of leaders that are willing to mortgage Nigeria/Africa and enslave future generations unborn.

The bottom line is only Africans themselves can stop themselves being victims. Keywords being the 3 C’s, : ‘cooperation’, ‘collaboration’ and ‘control’.
There is absolutely no reason why we can’t build our Utopia, it is mindset that keeps us at the bottom of the ‘food chain’.

I'm yet to see any country in this world - and I have been to every continent save Australasia - where white expatriates live in the same communities as indigenous people. Whether Africa, Asia, or the Middle East. They always create their own gated environment.

I always ask people who live abroad - why is it that black people can't bond successfully? They always give me a dozen examples of how most black people are swindlers and frauds etc etc. And I wonder if there are no bad eggs among the Asians who always form thick, strongly-bonded communities in most of these countries.

People may not agree, but after all said and done, most black people are suffering from an inherent inferiority complex. Which is the primary reason why nothing much has changed. Even when we look for solutions to our problems, we look where? in the direction of the white man. Yes, white's got all the answers. undecided

cap28:
I'll change the record when you face up to reality and stop pretending as if what happened in the past has no bearing on what is happening to the black race today.

The fact that you as a black person had to leave your own country and go abroad to acheive a decent standard of living indicates that you along with many african people ARE directly affected by africa's past legacy ie colonialism and exploitation of our economies by the west.  If you and a european person with the same qualifications were to go to live in any part of africa today to look for the same type of employment , the european would have access to better employment opportunities than you, the same principle would apply if both of you were to go to australia, canada, south africa, far east asia and the carribean - there is nowhere in the world that any black person has an equal chance with a european - even in africa - why do you think that is the case?

You say black man solidarity is a vain and pointless concept - funny you should say that because whites dont think that at all - thats why they set up NATO, the IMF, the world bank WTO etc, they know unlike you that real power comes from collective organisation and thats why they control how you and i live in this world, whether you want to accept it or not you do not have the same opportunities in this world as your white or even asian counterparts.  Whites unlike blacks prefer to identify with their own people, you only have to travel outside europe or north america and see how expatriate whites always stick together and network amongst their own people, ive been to countries in africa where whites live in gated communities and do not interact with the indigenous people, i also have friends who've worked in the middle east and its the same thing there too - white expatriates stick together and prefer to be around their own people, how come its only blacks who don't think its necessary to maintain solidarity with their own?

Since you beleive that black solidarity is pointless - id like to hear what your own solutions are.
Good point Cap28, Collective effort builds a business
or nation,

deejay 20 you are on point as usual, america doesnt really want Hosni Mubarak out, however in the face of overwhelming opposition they have no choice, in order to ensure that Mubarak's successor does not turn out to be someone hostile to their economic interests ie neo liberal capitalism they set up and fund various think tanks or "progressive" groups comprising westernised egyptians like Freedom House (the progressive youth movement who were in the pics you put up there with Condoleeza Rice and Hilary Clinton) Freedom House has links with the US intelligence services and is funded by the US govt.  I have heard that this movement played a very major role in organising the protests , this is not to say that the revolution itself is not genuine it is very genuine - the concerns of the people are legitimate, however there are some elements within that revolution that may try to seek to hijack the original purpose of that revolution and move it in a different direction - a direction which is more in line with what their financiers (the US) want ie a continuation of the same neo liberal economic policies which have caused the economic hardship that member egyptians are challenging.  I just hope this does not happen, I think this is why Mubarak was instructed by the US not to step down until september, i beleive the americans are hoping that they can use the interim period to try and find a replacement puppet, again i hope the egyptians see through their plan.

[The] major world powers, new and old, also face a novel reality: while the lethality of their military might is greater than ever, their capacity to impose control over the politically awakened masses of the world is at a historic low. To put it bluntly: in earlier times, it was easier to control one million people than to physically kill one million people; today, it is infinitely easier to kill one million people than to control one million people.

Was just checking some GDP Economic figures for some states as was
looking at investment area's.

Just thought i post this list.

Its breaks the states down by GDP (Purchasing Power Parity).
It looking at the volume of economic ativity,

Not too suprising that Lagos and Rivers state are No 1 & 2.

Note, I gonna do a check for the Capital Expenditure figures
for each state and this will give a true and fair view of Economic
strength of the states.

The Reason why i say that the capital exp may give a better view of the economic activity is that take instance a state like Jigawa, its GDP is $2.9 Billion Dollars, But it spent $500 Million dollars on road works last year alone!

OOU student runs mad

Francis Falola

A 26-year-old female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, on Monday ran out of her residence in the university town unclothed

The student (name withheld), an indigene of Osun State, was however rescued by her colleagues, who ran after her and put her in chains.

The President of the OOU Students' Union, Mr. Rufai Uthman, on Tuesday in Abeokuta confirmed the incident and said the development might have been due to depression as a result of the long closure of the university.

Uthman said the student was rushed to the health centre in the area for an immediate medical attention as arrangement was being made to take her to her parents in Osun State.

He said, "We gathered that the lady ran out of her residence in total nudity. Her room-mate told us she had remained moody following her arrival on campus and discovering that the ASUU crisis was yet to be resolved.

"You can imagine her level of depression; this is a 26-year-old female student who has remained as a pre-degree student when she was supposed to have commenced the normal degree programme. She came to the school due to the news of the resumption, only to hear that ASUU had vowed not to resume work.

"We believe it will be an act of injustice for ASUU to claim that it is fighting for the interest of its members while the interest of the students' body is being infringed upon."
