You got that right, The is no real time development
in Teaching in Nigeria and especially at the secondary level.

Nigerians students need to be aware of General global trends
and Knowledge. I went back to my Alma mater in 2009 and
they are still archiving manually, hardly any computers!!!

I was asked to speak at one of the SS3 Classes Who were
having a Government class. I gave a talk about political
economy and how Govt policy is fundermentally supposed to develop strong
institution to boost economic and social growth, Spoke about the
GDP of Nigeria, Energy sector, Information Techonolgy, China and it impact
on Nigeria etc. The students were looking amazed and were so focused that
you could here a pin drop!!!. I used my Netbook & a mini-projector and
aslo played short Youtube clips to illustrate my points.

They were literally begging me to come back as i speant three days there
from Monday to Wednesday. I was so impressed with their hunger
that i thinking about starting an IT project in the school.

We need to challenge our younger generation mentally.

The Chinese are coming to Africa with a "Mission"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/images/episode/b00ykxg9_303_170.jpg

This Documentary focuses on the Chinese and the role they are playing
economically in Africa.

For the the BBC to be looking at this means the British are aware
of the new International business competition in what they term as their
Back-yard (Africa)
but they really want to know how
the Africans feel about the chinese presense.

Looks Interesting and should be a good watch, shall post video's

I don't see what you claim to see, sorry. The way I see it, what we like to call CONTROL is mainly people allowing themselves to be used by a minority to achieve the selfish goals of the few. And No, the West barely ever turns out to be the Puppet masters in most all CONTROL situations, local Government leaders who have something to gain do. In Egypt's case however, there does not seem to be any immediate group benefiting except the Egyptian people and that is the main reason why the whole world is trying to stay out of this for as long as they can, well, until the People of Egypt decide where this will go.

Yeah but 90% of the Economy is Finance/Banking and most of
its companies are based abroad ie "Nestle" which bring

to produce Pharmaceticals etc,

Take for example Nestle, its based in Nigeria and makes
products for the local Nigerian market but its main aim
is to to secure agricultural Land in Nigeria (Ogun state most notable)
to export agric resources back to Switzerland.

But let us not stray from the main topic, Why is the UK wealthy

london is like an international marketplace so, they shouldnt be poor
hmm very good point, London or really
"The Square mile" which is called the "City of London" is an
International Banking and Trading center but is built is self up
that way in the 17th Century through Trade expeditions (all the explorers
that you read about like Mango Park were sent on Expeditions by
Kings & Queens of Britain and Wealthy Merchants to discover new lands
so that they could obtain wealth (Naural Resources).

The Explorers would sometimes go with a peaceful crew to the new land or island
and make friends with the natives and spy out the land.

And would leave peacefully only for the Explorer to return later with the
British Navy/Army to strike a deal with natives or to conquer the land/island,

Thats how Britian obtained its Resource wealth, by making agreements & later
breaking them for conquest,

Switzerland is a International Private Banking Center. so they make their

Its actually quite ironical

1. The bulk of the wealth in the UK was derived from the "Slave Trade" which funded their "Industrial Revolution".

2. The main funders of the "Slave Trade" were the "Barclays Brothers", who later formed "Barclays Bank".

3. Barclay's Bank is one of the biggest banks in the UK that has laundered and stashed billions of looted funds from Nigeria.

So I guess you can say its Nigeria's money being recycled when you consider Nigeria = pre colonial "Slave Coast"
Whoa!!! This dude is so on point!!! You are correct,

Fashola signs N450b budget, fortifies state security

By Kamal Tayo Oropo

Source - http://odili.net/news/source/2011/feb/1/12.html

GOVERNOR Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has signed the state's N450.8 billion 2011 budget into law, promising better welfare for civil servants and improvement of the state's university.

Fashola signs N450b budget, fortifies state security

He has also boosted security in the state. Before signing the budget yesterday, Fashola handed over 100 patrol vans and 50 motorbikes to the state's Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), charging security operatives not to use the equipment to torment law-abiding citizens they were to protect.

The patrol vans and other security equipment, if judiciously used, according to Fashola, would ward off criminally minded-people from the state, or they risk being arrested and brought to justice.

He declared that Lagos had been cleared of major security threats that once disturbed night life, saying: "Lagos is now safe on land, water and in the air with the number of patrol vehicles, patrol boats and the two

helicopters acquired for the RRS for effective policing of the state."

But on the occasion of formal signing of the budget, Fashola noted that the state executive and legislature had jointly worked on the budget so that it would have meaningful impact on the people on whose behalf they were elected to serve.

Meanwhile, Lagos State governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Dr. Abayomi Mumuni, has promised to make the state self-reliant in electricity supply, even as he carpeted Fashola for not doing enough.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos yesterday, Mumuni said his government would embark on the process of addressing the enormous infrastructural challenges in the state at the same tempo with human capital development if elected into office.

According to him, the incumbent governor has done well but a lot still needs to be done in the state infrastructure.

It is funny how so many people here are trying to justify marrying someone without courting them, just because so and so did it and it worked out. Let's not disregard common sense in our reasoning. If you don't court the person whom you intend to marry, how will you be able to learn about that person's character before entering a, presumably, lifetime contract?

You can't compare marriage with exams. In the latter, everything is almost predictable and there's an answer to every question. Marriage isn't that straightforward. If it goes according to your comparison, then those who have longer courtships will have more successful marriages. But obviously, it's not always like that.

I do not disagree with your points that allude to fiscal irresponsibility on the part of successive Nigerian governments but that is not the point you were making. You were stating that bond issues are bad for all countries. When debating, you can not apply a generalistic assumption to many; you have to be more specific.

You gave examples of countries that have liquidity problems, spent more than they earned, and cooked books. Get serious. When you lend money to a debtor, you don’t want to hear that your debtor is living extravagantly, giving money to relatives, and cooking his books. Your bad practices will get to speculators who will seek to profit YOUR irresponsible actions. How come Germany, Japan, or the Scandinavian countries have not had been burnt in the bonds market?
These countries you mentioned are running Budget/trade surplasses so they
would have no need to borrow.

And besides these countries especially Germany and Japan are producing real goods
ie Manufactured goods and so they are economically strong and do not need to borrow Financial Capital when they have the real capital which is "Intellectual Property capital.

Germany is even the one bailing out countries like Ireland & Greece, countries
that hollowed out their economies and therefore do not produce anything
of substance.

Most states at this point are beggars.

Wish I had a list handy of states ranked by IGR.
Well what do you expect, Lagos state at the moment just has
a natural advantage when it comes to tax revenue ie The airport,
the sea-port, the land port, International & Major national
businessess (business rates), the tolls, transport etc. Then when you throw in all the FTZ's which
i gonna be built there and Eko Atlantic, its goona be a tax-mans paradise!

I guess only rivers state, Kaduna & Abuja comes close for Internal revenue generation.

Maybe Enugu state will start generating some revenue with the
International Airport status, States have to become self reliant and stop
relying solely on the allocation from "oil & gas"

The bond issues is kind of a sensible move as the projected revenue generation
in the near future is going to increase and most of the bonds are bought by wealthy
nigerians anyway so Lagos state owes the debt to itself (Nigerians)
