The way I see it Africa would be much better of if it severed ALL contact with the outside world.

1. According to some experts Africa has enough arable farmland to feed the entire worlds population if modern agricultural techniques were implemented. She could easily feed her own population today, but some of the best farmland is used to grow crops like tea for export!

2. We import products from foreign countries that we could make domestically and create jobs and eradicate poverty.

3. We have all the natural resources like oil, timber, rubber etc within the continent to be completely self sufficient.

Some people might point out the need for tech, but we have enough educated people to do that also, and technology is not worth 80% poverty just so we can all have cellular phones.
Great Observation!but as we have seen for almost 130 years certain Non - Africans
are hell bent on this not happening. Their Modus Operandi is to keep all african
dependant in a constant state of chaos and poverty.

But all great deception come to an end and the way the 21st century is going
this Great Deception of Impoverishing africa is coming to an End!

Nigerian-American Politician's Hotel Bombed In Tripoli Libya Yesterday 26th May 2011!!!

African American Politician Cynthia McKinney (DNA Tested origin Nigeria) Hotel was Bombed by NATO Airplanes
last Night. She is now more than convinced that this is no Humanitarian Misson.

President Obama & Prime Minister David Cameron have stated that more

This is the New Iraq war, they are strongly considering ground troops
but their is talk going about that they are planning to use "Mercenaries" ie

NATO: A Feast of Blood

By US Politician "Cynthia McKinney"

While serving on the House International Relations Committee from 1993 to 2003, it became clear to me that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was an anachronism. Founded in 1945 at the end of World War II, NATO was founded by the United States in response to the Soviet Union's survival as a Communist state. NATO was the U.S. insurance policy that capitalist ownership and domination of European, Asian, and African economies would continue. This also would ensure the survival of the then-extant global apartheid.

NATO is a collective security pact wherein member states pledge that an attack upon one is an attack against all. Therefore, should the Soviet Union have attacked any European Member State, the United States military shield would be activated. The Soviet Response was the Warsaw Pact that maintained a "cordon sanitaire" around the Russian Heartland should NATO ever attack. Thus, the world was broken into blocs which gave rise to the "Cold War."

Avowed "Cold Warriors" of today still view the world in these terms and, unfortunately, cannot move past Communist China and an amputated Soviet Empire as enemy states of the U.S. whose moves any where on the planet are to be contested. The collapse of the Soviet Union provided an accelerated opportunity to exert U.S. hegemony in an area of previous Russian influence. Africa and the Eurasian landmass containing former Soviet satellite states and Afghanistan and Pakistan along with the many other "stans" of the region, have always factored prominently in the theories of "containment" or "rollback" guiding U.S. policy up to today.

With that as background, last night's NATO rocket attack on Tripoli is inexplicable. A civilian metropolitan area of around 2 million people, Tripoli sustained 22 to 25 bombings last night, rattling and breaking windows and glass and shaking the foundation of my hotel.

I left my room at the Rexis Al Nasr Hotel and walked outside the hotel and I could smell the exploded bombs. There were local people everywhere milling with foreign journalists from around the world. As we stood there more bombs struck around the city. The sky flashed red with explosions and more rockets from NATO jets cut through low cloud before exploding.

I could taste the thick dust stirred up by the exploded bombs. I immediately thought about the depleted uranium munitions reportedly being used here--along with white phosphorus. If depleted uranium weapons were being used what affect on the local civilians?

Women carrying young children ran out of the hotel. Others ran to wash the dust from their eyes. With sirens blaring, emergency vehicles made their way to the scene of the attack. Car alarms, set off by the repeated blasts, could be heard underneath the defiant chants of the people.

Sporadic gunfire broke out and it seemed everywhere around me. Euronews showed video of nurses and doctors chanting even at the hospitals as they treated those injured from NATO's latest installation of shock and awe. Suddenly, the streets around my hotel became full of chanting people, car horns blowing, I could not tell how many were walking, how many were driving. Inside the hotel, one Libyan woman carrying a baby came to me and asked me why are they doing this to us?

Whatever the military objectives of the attack (and I and many others question the military value of these attacks) the fact remains the air attack was launched a major city packed with hundreds of thousands of civilians.

I did wonder too if the any of the politicians who had authorized this air attack had themselves ever been on the receiving end of laser guided depleted uranium munitions. Had they ever seen the awful damage that these weapons do a city and its population? Perhaps if they actually been in the city of air attack and felt the concussion from these bombs and saw the mayhem caused they just might not be so inclined to authorize an attack on a civilian population.

I am confident that NATO would not have been so reckless with human life if they had called on to attack a major western city. Indeed, I am confident that would not be called upon ever to attack a western city. NATO only attacks (as does the US and its allies) the poor and underprivileged of the 3rd world.

Only the day before, at a women's event in Tripoli, one woman came up to me with tears in her eyes: her mother is in Benghazi and she can't get back to see if her mother is OK or not. People from the east and west of the country lived with each other, loved each other, intermarried, and now, because of NATO's "humanitarian intervention," artificial divisions are becoming hardened. NATO's recruitment of allies in eastern Libya smacks of the same strain of cold warriorism that sought to assassinate Fidel Castro and overthrow the Cuban Revolution with "homegrown" Cubans willing to commit acts of terror against their former home country. More recently, Democratic Republic of Congo has been amputated de facto after Laurent Kabila refused a request from the Clinton Administration to formally shave off the eastern part of his country. Laurent Kabila personally recounted the meeting at which this request and refusal were delivered. This plan to balkanize and amputate an African country (as has been done in Sudan) did not work because Kabila said "no" while Congolese around the world organized to protect the "territorial integrity" of their country.

I was horrified to learn that NATO allies (the Rebels) in Libya have reportedly lynched, butchered and then their darker-skinned compatriots after U.S. press reports labeled Black Libyans as "Black mercenaries." Now, tell me this, pray tell. How are you going to take Blacks out of Africa? Press reports have suggested that Americans were "surprised" to see dark-skinned people in Africa. Now, what does that tell us about them?

The sad fact, however, is that it is the Libyans themselves, who have been insulted, terrorized, lynched, and murdered as a result of the press reports that hyper-sensationalized this base ignorance. Who will be held accountable for the lives lost in the bloodletting frenzy unleashed as a result of these lies?

Which brings me back to the lady's question: why is this happening? Honestly, I could not give her the educated reasoned response that she was looking for. In my view the international public is struggling to answer "Why?".

What we do know, and what is quite clear, is this: what I experienced last night is no "humanitarian intervention."

Many suspect it is about all the oil under Libya. Call me skeptical but I have to wonder why the combined armed sea, land and air forces of NATO and the US costing billions of dollars are being arraigned against a relatively small North African country and we're expected to believe its in the defense of democracy.

What I have seen in long lines to get fuel is not "humanitarian intervention." Refusal to allow purchases of medicine for the hospitals is not "humanitarian intervention." What is most sad is that I cannot give a cogent explanation of why to people now terrified by NATO's bombs, but it is transparently clear now that NATO has exceeded its mandate, lied about its intentions, is guilty of extra-judicial killings--all in the name of "humanitarian intervention." Where is the Congress as the President exceeds his war-making authority? Where is the "Conscience of the Congress?"

For those of who disagree with D. Cheney's warning to us to prepare for war for the next generation, please support any one who will stop this madness. Please organize and then vote for peace. People around the world need us to stand up and speak out for ourselves and them because Iran and Venezuela are also in the cross-hairs. Libyans don't need NATO helicopter gunships, smart bombs, cruise missiles, and depleted uranium to settle their differences. NATO's "humanitarian intervention" needs to be exposed for what it is with the bright, shining light of the truth.

As dusk descends on Tripoli, let me prepare myself with the local civilian population for some more NATO humanitarianism.

Stop bombing Africa and the poor of the world!

Bullshyt!

I hate it when people attempt to blow hot air down my árse like i've never been through the walls of an higher institution.

If all refineries were made to work, all the government simply had to do is to reduce subsidies and increase taxes on refined crude exports, up to an extent where it becomes priced competitively in global markets and owners would be forced to see a more lucrative deal in selling at the local price where less taxes and higher subsidies abound.
Violent, dont you just hate it when people like the IMF always try to make a fool out of Nigerians and
make statements that dont make sense and border on foolishness.

If Nigeria's refineries were all working at 100% capacity and we were exporting refined petroleum
products would not out oil and gas revenues increase by 20 times if not more.

A country that produces crude oil but exports it only to import the refined substance at a higher rate
is that not just foolishhuh

Fairtrade 'does more harm than good to Third World countries', says think tank

Source - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-517823/Fairtrade-does-harm-good-Third-World-countries-says-think-tank.html

The "ethical" brand Fairtrade, backed by A-list celebrities and £2million of taxpayers' cash, leaves Third World farmers worse off, according to a damning new report.
Huge publicity, including a Government-sponsored education campaign in schools, has attempted to persuade the public to pay more for goods such as coffee, chocolate and bananas to ensure a better deal for producers in impoverished nations.
And stars such as Coldplay singer Chris Martin have been queuing up to endorse its products.

But an investigation by the Adam Smith Institute, the highly respected Right-wing think-tank, claims that Fairtrade's efforts to help African and Central American farmers do more harm than good.
The Fairtrade Mark ? familiar to anyone who shops in Britain's leading supermarkets ? guarantees that producers in developing countries receive a fair price for their goods.
Last year, British consumers spent more than £300million on Fairtrade products.
But the report Unfair Trade claims that the organisation's "positive image appears to rely more on public relations than research".
It adds:
• Fairtrade helps only a very small number of farmers while leaving the majority worse off.
•It favours producers in better-off nations such as Mexico, rather than poor African countries.
•It holds back economic development, paying inefficient cooperative farms and discouraging diversification and mechanisation.
• Supermarket chains profit more from the higher price of Fairtrade goods than farmers.
•Only a fifth of produce grown on Fairtrade-approved farms is actually purchased at its guaranteed fair price.
Tom Clougherty, policy director of the Adam Smith Institute, says: "At best, fair trade is a marketing device that does the poor little good.
"At worst, it may inadvertently be harming some of the planet's most vulnerable people."
Most damning of all, the report claims that Fairtrade is hurting the poorest group of all in the production process of its goods ? the casual labourers hired by farmers to pick the bananas, coffee and cotton.
Last night, Harriet Lamb, UK executive director of Fairtrade, said: "Of course, Fairtrade is not perfect and has not solved all the world's problems. But the Institute is condemning us for trying."

thick skull!!
I guess they are trying to acquire Land in osun state so that they can push one of those
"FAIR-TRADE" deals like the one the London Borough of Southwark signed with the Kenyan Govt
and some other east african countries a few years ago
.

What it means is that UK companies based in the London Borough of Southwark would come
into Osun state and get leases on land to develop agricultural goods etc for export.

Nothing new here just the same old schemes dressed up in new forms

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_trade

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fair trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries make better trading conditions and promote sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers as well as higher social and environmental standards. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fresh fruit, chocolate, flowers and gold.[1]

***********************************

So in essense it just another export scheme pushed by UK but it has its strategy in Local UK council
targeting countries where London Councils has a high proportion on immigrants

So  a Council Like Southwark which has a high proportion of Nigerians, Ghanians, Kenyans, Tanzanians
will try and cut trade deals with Govt and Local states within Govts like Nigeria, Kenya using
the African Council Officials as the brokers to give it a friendly face!!!

Foreign Oil Companies Bribe Legislators $10million Dollars to Pass New Oil Bill!!!

Hmmm so as we all knew that the PIB Legislation was not going
to favour the Big Oil companies like shell etc as it would bring more
revenue to Nigeria, so they have started using their usual tatics of
lobbying our National Assembly law-men with bribes to get the bill watered down
to favour them so that it can be passed before May 29th before the official start
of the New Presidential term.

Summary of the gist of the bill was

1 - More Techology and Business Management Expertise Transfer to Nigerians
employed in the Industry

2 - Reduction of Expatrate workers coming in to do the jobs that Nigerians
should be trained to do

3 - Increase in Royalty payments to State hosting operations & Federal Govt

4 - Stricter enviromental and health controls on Oil Operators

5 - Better renumeration packages for Nigerian Workers and a halt to the
casualisation creeping into the industry ie using temporary staff to do work at reduced wages
ie leading to firing/redundancy of permanent Nigerian Workers.

Legislators paid $10m bribe for petroleum bill passage - Investigation

Yemi Kolapo

Stakeholders in the oil and gas industry have paid some members of the National Assembly the $10m (N1.5bn) bribe demanded for the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, an investigation by our correspondent has revealed.

But the "settlement," according to findings, has not translated into the automatic passage of the bill.

Our correspondent gathered that some members of the National Assembly believed that they might have been shortchanged, hence the delay experienced by the bill. Others have insisted that the provisions of the bill have been watered down in favour of the International Oil Companies.

For the PIB, another source in the petroleum industry, who asked not to be named because he could not speak officially on the matter, said, "We know that the incentive bargain, the $10m we are talking about, has been settled. But there are still some problems involved. The House has begun serious consideration of the bill with a view to passing it soon. But there are still factions that must agree before it sails through. Some say they have benefitted from the largesse, but not enough.Others think that the IOCs have been too favoured.

"These people are saying that the bill has been watered down from what it used to be and that it may have reduced government's revenue in favour of the IOCs, especially as regards the joint venture arrangements. But all the grey areas will be fine-tuned."

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, said such demands would only create a disconnect between the objectives of the elected and the electorate.

"It is ridiculous. Some people call it lobbying, but that is not what it is in the Nigerian sense. It is democracy for sale, which defeats the purpose. If anybody is to buy legislation that way, he has also bought the legislators. That way, you compromise the interest of the nation for your own commercial interest," he noted.

Our correspondent had gathered from reliable sources in the petroleum industry that some assembly members had demanded $10m (N1.5bn), to be paid up front, from the promoters of the PIB before it would be passed.

"That is what goes on in our democracy. I can assure you that if the PIB will be passed before May 29, 2011 as has been said, it would have cost the relevant authorities $10m. That is the price; it's like a blackmail," a top official in the petroleum industry, who asked not to be named because of the delicate nature of the matter, had said.

Calls to the mobile phone of the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, were not picked, while a text message sent to the same number at about 4pm on Tuesday was not also replied as at the time of going to press.

Yes, we KNOW WHAT A FREE TRADE ZONE IS.

But that doesn't mean Nigerian consumers (specifically, the ajokutamamumi being referred to here) will be able to enter the FTZ and bring anything they like into Nigeria, duty-free.

For all we know, the duty-free only applies to goods EXPORTED from Lekki to outside of the country! Not goods brought from the FTZ to Nigeria.

And of course it depends on the "exact details and implementation". . . I assume that they'd have different policies for different classes of goods.

If you can get private tutors even better, if your academically inclined you can also work with your children when they bring homework and give them extra work at home as well. I look at what Indians do with their kids and they push them hard and all they do is study, my little girl may hate it when she is older but that is what she will be doing - no social life or extended time in front of the TV - it will be homework and more school work, when she sleeps at night she will dream of algebra and Shakespeare - lol

My greatest fear for my child is other peoples kids and the bad influence they may have on her. My daughter is only 4 months and I have been looking at primary schools as well (lol i like to plan ahead).
Please note the bolded comments. You seem to be still in the euphoric stage of being abroad.

Take it from me, someone that was born abroad, raised abroad and came to Nigeria

You are admiring Indians and how they motivate their kids, well you better be ready to
teach your kids Ibo as most Indian kids speak there language and love their culture

Dont be fooled, its the cultural identity and bonding with their cultural roots/family
that helps most Indians, Pakistanies and Asians in General to be successful in education and life.

I read, write and speak Ibo and i am trully thankful that my Father brough me back to Nigeria

I can see the African and Black experience from both sides of the fence and it has made me

Not too mention that all my nigerian friends that did not even visit let alone

THIS IS THE BIGGEST RESENTMENT NIGERIANS BORN ABROAD HAVE TOWARDS THEIR PARENTS AND ITS A RESENTMENT
AND SOMETIMES BITTERNESS THAT MOST NIGERIAN KIDS BORN ABROAD HIDE!!!

THE EASIEST WAY TO WATCH YOUR KIDS THAT ARE NOT BORN IN NIGERIA DRIFT AWAY AND BE DISTANT FROM YOU
IS NOT TEACH THEM YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE.

I have a Nigerian friend that lived all his life abroad and only came to Nigeria for Holiday
but he speaks Ibo Fluently becos his parents taught him from birth. The parents are so happy
that they taught all their kids Ibo as it bonded the family and saw them through the
difficult teenage years of the children.

It did the same for me too,

THANK YOU MUM & DAD FOR NOT BEING COWARDS AND INTIMIDATED CHICKENS
LIKE SOME OF THE NIGERIAN PARENTS I KNEW WHO REFUSED TO TEACH THEIR KIDS THEIR NATIVE TONGUE
BECOS THEY WERE BORN ABROAD AND SPOKE WITH A DIFFERENT ACCENT THAN THEM!!!

REMEMBER ADA YOU ARE NOT IN NIGERIA WHERE THE BASIC SOCIAL ENVIROMENT BENDS KIDS TOWARDS
RESPECT AND DISCIPLINE, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO INSTILL IN YOUR KIDS, YOU HAVE TO WORK 200% TO DO
IT AS YOU ARE NOW ABROAD!.BELIEVE YOU ME MY PARENTS WORKED OVERTIME TO MAKE SURE I GREW UP
WITH A SANE LEVEL HEAD, IT WORKED ADA ITS WORKED

THE NUMBER ONE WAY TO DESTROY YOUR KIDS RESPECT FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND IBO CULTURE IS
START TALKING NEGATIVE ABOUT NIGERIA IN FRONT OF THEM!

NUMBER TWO WAY TO GET YOUR KIDS TO DISRESPECT YOU SUBTLELY AND YOUR CULTURE IS TO BE
INTIMIDATED BY THEIR FOREIGN ACCENT AND TRY AND TALK LIKE THEM OR TRY TO BE THEIR PAL
OR APPEASE THEM!!! BAD BAD MOVE IF YOU DO THAT!!!

NUMBER THREE WAY TO GET THEM TO DISRESPECT YOU AND THEIR CULTURE IS WHEN YOU DONT TEACH
THEM HOW TO PRO-NOUNCE THEIR NAMES PROPERLY WITH THE CORRECT IBO INTONATIONS AND ALSO
EXPLAIN TO THEN THE MEANING!!!

THIS IS SOMETHING MY PARENTS NEVER DID AND WHEN BAD NEWS CAME OUT OF NIGERIA,MY PARENTS
ALWAYS REMINDED ME THAT THE ETHNIC GROUPS EXISTED IN NIGERIA BEFORE THE NATION WAS FORMED AND
WILL BE AROUND IRRESPECTIVE OF THE SOCIO-POLITICAL CHANGE REGARDLESS AND THAT THEIR ARE GOOD PEOPLE

Why is it that his closest allies deserted him after the war started? why did his daughter flee to spain? Gadaffi is not even loved by his people so why are you here crying over another persons headache?

NATO came in because AU was impotent. So stop complaining.
Oh what a pity, so even yourself does not know what a "No fly zone is" and to make matters worse you dont even
know that the USA is the Founders, leader and supplies 70% of the Military force of NATO, please stop displaying your ignorance here.

The only thing stopping america right from going haywire of killing and grabbing is because Reasonable Obama is in charge.Obama as a person does not believe in the policy of winner takes all that the system is built on.

If a cracker like donald trump takes over,it will be all out war,to kill as much as they can and acquire as much as they can in bids to fire up the extinguishing empire, forgetting that what goes up must come down.

The time has come for a shift to the east,to the down trodden and americans should learn to adjust to life of austerity measures.
FORMER WORLD BANK HEAD (James D. Wolfensohn) SAYS WEALTH IS MOVING FROM WEST TO EAST

Foreign AffairsRe: President Obama Now Moving Towards Ground Troops In Libya by DeeJay20: 8:36pm On May 01, 2011
Ground Troops are being prepared by the 27 Countries of the EU under the Umbrella of NATO.

The plot is getter thicker and thicker. I dont believe that the Libyan People both in the
North-east, North-West and South of the country are going to like this.
