I was expecting to see, I believe in this and that and I accept this and that before I could comment.

PropertiesRe: How I Was Defrauded Renting An Apartment In Lagos, My Experience by deepwater(f): 9:24am On Jun 23, 2017
Sorry op.
You guys should team up, get a court injunction on that property. The case may linger with time. You.Will recover your loses but.the house owner will Will loose more.

More importantly don't get an apartment so close to a church because of noise pollution.

Next time you get a new place, move in same day you made payment no matter what, sleep there for like a week before you think of bring in your properties.
You could detect foul play immediately they refuse you spending your first night after payment. As at then your money is only less than 24hrs with them, you could easily get a refund cos I see no.excuse that can be issued to avoid you sleeping in an apartment you have paid for

I hope this is useful to you. The company I worked with did business with them sometime between 2014 and 2015; and I was familiar with some employees there (Rapport lost). However, I am not sure on how strong the company is now, when you consider the fact that a lot has happened in that sector and many oil servicing companies struggled to stay afloat. Whether they existed...YES! Are they a scam now...I have no Idea!!
Find attached as well...I pray it's useful!!

No one is saying your degree is needed. Different people with different life expectations. Is a CE not in the marine industry. Would you remain a sailor all you life or prefer to become a technical manager as you have highlighted in the post? and Why are there maritime universities? Madam, no one is saying you need a degree to get into the industry but in any case a degree remains an added advantage...just like the military or navy.
@ last bolded, no concrete information or relevance to this arguement. Just another redundant piece. I have said nothing yet because you do not understand my line of thought!
Just as you do not need a degree to become an OIM or rig manager. You can start from roustabout and then climb with different "documents a certifications" like IWCF but these days you find OIM an rig managers that are masters degree holders even with lesser years of experience... you cannot become a driller without IWCF but you can without without degree... a degree becomes an advantage. Do you understand now?? In your seagoing experience, have you not met a captain or CE that is a degree holder or even a 2nd or 3rd engineer that are degree holders? Stop this rants pls. Rather than tell me me read up, I will post a link for you here. This is for the same sailing CE.

I am sorry bro.
Deepwater stopped reading your comments on marine affairs immediately you said STCW has no relevance nor is it a concrete information on seafarers employment requirements.

majekdom2:
stop this rant about documents and certifications... No one says degree is a priority. A degree is an added advantage in any profession!
On this issue, you have said nothing yet.
This is a perfect scenario of ignorance at bliss.
I was expecting you to know the difference between a sailing C.E (seafarer) and a technical manager - C.E

I have looked at your attached pics, the one from SP is for seafarers(hope you saw the emphasis on.diploma?) and one other talking about managerial role, I can even see 'construction site' on the other one. Would I have to remind you that our discuss is on seafarers? You need to be objective when trashing an issue.

You might have interacted with seafarers in past and on this occasion you are interacting with another qualified and thorough breed who is on time off and ready to clear you doubts as far as marine is concerned. This involves marine/offshore at full spread, drilling and well control inclusive. 100% practical not those books and Google stuff.

Your points and understanding of marine is shallow, hence anything i say would be total rant to you.

To engage me better on this, read up requirements for C.E (seafarers) as per STCW '95 convention as amended by manila 2010.

Once again, you have said nothing yet.

You keep convoluting things. The argument here is that if both candidates have similar level of experience, exposure and both of them can do the job effectively. Who would you employ. A Graduate or an ND holder? Infact I feel this should be a rhetorical question cause the answer is a NO Brainer.
It is not a rhetorical question, rather a leading question, designed to lead one into emotions.
I am sorry, deepwater is not that emotional, I am real and practical.
I have only mentioned the person i would employ and why.
What you havent understood is that degree doesn't appeal to every employment more importantly for seafarers. The earlier you come to terms with reality the better.

I understand where you are driving to, I once had that conception but I have allowed reality to set in instead of emotions.

This issue may be strange to people not familiar to marine.

Go figure out requested documents for employment of seafarers and tell me where you see degree as an added advantage Or priority.

Dear Parcks,

Yours below is well received with thanks and i would love to learn from you as well.
However, i do not have access to read my PMs, nevertheless, i believe we can effectively learn and interact here while we keep the thread alive.
You never can tell, we could learn from others as well and get corrected or broader ideas when others chip in.
You questions are welcomed and i pray for wisdom to direct.

I am happy you have moved on swiftly, not long from now you would be just where you want to be.
All the best my e-brother.

Thanks and warm regards,

you don't have to educate me about the maritime industry. My experience involved working on an FSO and then the crude is offloaded on a ship. I have had the opportunity to interact with seafearers. In the case where there are 2 candidates with same knoweldge and relative experience. Which would you employ? a degree holder or ND holder?
I would employ the person who knows the Job base on previous experience. someone who can keep the ship afloat and ensure machinery availability and reliability at all times during his/her hitch.

Yes, the paper can be achieved without a degree but a degree is always a plus that's my point. Which would you employ a chief engineer with 14 years experience and masters degree or a chief engineer with National diploma and 18 years experience.
You still don't get it, marine is different. It took me time to come in terms with reality in the field of marine.

When a C.E is to be employed, what is being checked is the validity of your CoC, kind of vessel sailed upon in the past maybe conventional, diesel electric or boiler, type of engine worked with maybe Nigata, cummins, cat, kilowatt capacity of engines worked with in the past, working knowledge of high voltage equipment, type of station keeping experience maybe dynamic positioning and class of DP experience maybe DP1,2 or 3 that's if the ship is ABS classed or DPA,AA,AAA for Lloyds classed Ship, type of Ship worked on maybe AHTS,PSV,FSCV, Surfers, tankers Or VVLCC et al.

Nobody is interested in your degree.
As for as marine is concerned degree is for self knowledge.
Sad but true.

majekdom2:
@ first bolded: you didn't say what a degree holder on a ship earns. Degree counts for different positions and responsibilities
@ second bolded, yes, they pay least but in my opinion, I think it's better to share 1 million between 2 individuals than pay it to just one. You never can tell which would take the company to the next level- good risk if you ask me. Thats what shell is doing.
As far as a Ship is concerned, your degree is for self knowledge, it doesn't get you a job. You can never be an officer with just a degree, you can never be employed on board the Ship as a sailing crew with just a degree. You must either have you CoC for officers cadre or CoP for ratings and GoC for radio operators. And these papers can be achieved without a degree.

Marine is very different.

I'll like to know if the figure is an annual package? undecided
Annual Bawo?
Baba it' s every 25days at most.

A 3rd engineer (entry level for engineering cadre) on a supply boat in a service company earns more than that.
Don't forget the requirement to be a 3rd engineer is either a National diploma with 12months cadetship or WASSCE with 36months sea term. Degree doesn't count, just get your CoC and you are good to go!

SHELLs pay is among the least within the IOC bracket.

The criteria for technical section is strict and the position is highly competitive. I guess it come with an higher pay packet. So after 25th, the real screening beckons. God help us all.
Personally, i do not think so, standard is across board, otherwise it becomes double standard.
One thing i have noticed about engineering students is that they have a natural feeling that every other discipline outside engineering is a walkover grin.

Well, not everyone is on Niaraland and not all applicants on Nairaland enjoys commenting, some people prefer to sight things from afar.
Check the bottom of this thread, there are about 15 guest at least viewing this topic on guest mode. check the total view and compare with total comment per moniker, you would see that there is enough interest in here already.

Engineers react naturally, so they have high tendency to hijack the discuss of any group.
God bless all Engineers and other professionals.

Yes, we agree but we know that in right economies, graduates with such qualifications don't have to keep throwing CVS up and down before someone picks them. Tho, he may be have to hunt for sometime given the state of the industry, He is a Talent regardless. @ second bolded Being a first class student may not necessarily mean you are a genius but it shows that one can be diligent and dedicated. Even if the Indepedents are not interested in his profile, the government of Nigeria should but sadly, it's not the case.
There use to be a scheme sponsored by the FGN for people with such qualifications to proceed on some exchange program overseas to further their education and upon return give back to the society by joining the civil service.
I am not too sure if this present administration still considers the program though.

There exist a wide gap between school and an actual job.
Until that gap is bridged, an applicant can not negotiate his pay.

funny enough my dear, is the fact you've ignored that' knowledge can never be outdated, you have to get the basics first then you build on what existed before, how would this happen when you see reasons why these precious materials should remain discarded... meanwhile What book are u currently reading?oh Nigerians dont read!
When you decide to study someone else's garbage, you end up playing catch up and you can never lead the park, because that is all there is - trying to meet up.
Your school of thought about building on what existed before is not new to me, we have analyzed this in many technical management symposiums, it is a very good recipe to remain a third world country.

What we need is indigenous ideas, not imitation and trying to invent the wheel.
