PoliticsRe: North Can Never Catch Up With South---balarabe Musa by DeepZone(op): 8:48am On Oct 07, 2008
That is why their lives depends so much on the oil in niger delta and they use turns to destroy and set back the educational system in nigeria so their illiterate people can catch up. That is why they doesn't want to relinquish power and the evil British are ever ready to support them with arms to use in holding and arresting the development of others so they the British can keep on milking nigeria dry with the aid of this their mugu and imbecilic friends.
Can you say something for once without adding tribal sentiments in it?
PoliticsRe: Crude Oil Found In Ogun State by DeepZone(op): 8:47am On Oct 07, 2008
All of you (esp DZ) hyperventilating at the remote possibility of their villages becoming the Oloibiri of SW Nigeria need some help.

First, seeing how oil money has not gotten to the pockets of the common ND man means that in any eventuality of commercial oil find in Ogun state, the common people their would also not get anything and would have their environment destroyed.

Now, about this 'oil' in Ogun state.

1. Much of Ogun state lies on basement rock with just present day sediments overlying some areas but the basement does outcrop in many areas. You can hardly find oil in basement rocks. Although this is currently happening in Vietnam.
2. The part of Ogun state that is part of the dahomey basin cannot have oil of commercial quantity because the conditions for the oil formation ( depth of burial of the Araromi shales) are not met. The basin is not deep enough to allow formation of oil/gas i.e the oil/gas window for oil formation . The Niger delta basin has a rich supply of sediments and this rich supply made the oil bearing rocks there reach the oil/gas window.

This doesnot mean that the possibility of commercial quantities can't be found offshore. Since the basin has some extension into the ocean, prospecting can be done but that oil would not be in Ogun state.

So DZ, take a chill pill. Even if oil seeps happen in your backyard it doesn't necessarily mean there's more underground. The heat required to 'cook' the organic matter can be local (can be caused by a small tectonic activity) can cause small oil formation but not big enough to 'cook' more kerogen at a basin scale.

3. I have only written about oil formation, trapping and appropriate seals is another but since the basin is along a passive margin, I would presume some traps may be present.

Oil companies will not spend Millions of dollars to drill wells when the possibility of good recovery is slim.

Finally, possibility of onshore oil in Ogun state (slim to Nil) but offshore well?
It's like most Nigerians are more comfortable with bad news than hearing good news. All this effort just to prove to me that there is no oil in Ogun state?

Tribalism is a national cancer that has contributed a lot to where we are as a nation today. The very rubbish leaders we have had have used it to successfully polarize the various ethnic groups. It is something that would take at least a couple of decades to diminish (it cannot be wiped-out) in my opinion. However, the most effective tool to combat it, which is our educational system, is in tatters. The national policy makers have no vision and direction. We should totally re-engineer or educational system. Amongst other things, equality and anti-tribalism should be taught compulsorily at both elementary and secondary schools. Things like the fundamental rights as stated in the constitution should also be taught compulsorily at these levels. There are many (educated) people today, that if you showed them what the constitution actually says, would be in disbelief at some of the things they are entitiled to as Nigerians. Education is such a powerful tool, and any attempt to combat tribalism would be futile without it playing a central role. In addition, maybe we need a law that makes it a federal crime to incite, aid or practice tribalism or anything of a tribalistic nature.
True talk.

We have the United nation, and I would tell you this some powerful nigerian in the United state have also link us with some people that would help us to fulfil our people desire. We are north slave to the north. It is either justice for the Yorubas or nothing else. I am speaking not for myself but on behalf of 99% of the Yorubas minus those who consider themself to be Judas.

US firm to manage Ibadan refuse with N9.3bn

By Sunday Aborisade, Ibadan

The Oyo State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Alhaji Mukaila Aborode, has said that the state government has signed an agreement with a United States firm for the management of domestic wastes within the Ibadan metropolis.

He said the project would gulp $80m (about N9.3bn) with the state providing $5m of the amount.

Aborode said this in an interview with journalists on Friday in his office while reacting to criticisms over the heaps of refuse in the city.

Mountains of refuse have dotted major streets in the city, culminating in health hazards to the residents.

He also explained that the state would soon inaugurate the sanitation task force to enforce environmental law in the state.

The commissioner said the investors, on arrival, would divide Ibadan into five zones and operate in conjunction with local contractors who will collect refuse from residential homes to designated transfer loading centres.

“I travelled to Dallas in the United States of America in October last year and I signed a definitive agreement with the Seer Methodological Processing, the inventor of the latest technology capable of converting refuse to ethanol that generate electricity,” he said.

Aborode noted that the state Governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, visited the US recently for an on-the-spot assessment of the project and was convinced that it could work perfectly in the state.

He said, “The project will cost $80m and they just ask the Oyo State Government, being the beneficiary, to pay $5m to attract the $75m. They are coming to Oyo State to use our refuse to generate electricity.

“We had allocated about 10 dumpsites to the investors. It is a matter of time for us to achieve a clean and beautiful Ibadan city. We are not lagging behind at all.”

The commissioner said that the state had procured some roll-on-roll-on trucks fabricated locally to convey refuse from homes to the transfer loading stations.

He said, “We know that these trucks are not good for the dumpsites, that is what prompted us to buy another 20 trucks, known as skitters, that are good for the dumpsites and the governor had approved N490m for that purpose.

“I am travelling to Hong Kong (China) very soon to see things for myself because I will not allow any contractor to bring any garbage to Oyo State this time around. We are being cautious.”

Reading through comments of Yorubas and awusas everyday here in nairaland and sometimes in some other nigerian forums, one can not help but confirm that there is no way the "cold civil war" to borrow your words can end as long as we all are clamped in this hellish union of a country called nigeria. Your parents have passed their hatred of Igbos down to you younger Yoruba and awusa generation as evidenced in your various posts here and the trend will continue and even be worse through to your next generation.
One thing that have always brought you nigerians together despite your differences from the Yorubas, awusas and down to all minority groups is the hatred of Igbos and this was passed unto you by your fathers who thought you that Igbo people are your problem.
Imagine some of you insinuating that Igbos must have to nominate their best candidate when it's their turn to become president of your silly country nigeria when since the independence of your country, all the leaders you have produced have been mediocre after mediocre, yet you still have the guts to ask Igbos to nominate their best for you or else, And this request for the best of the Igbos to rule was passed down to you by your fathers and it will continue from you to your next generation if that rubbish country still remain one then.

The awusas have at an extent have succeeded in holding/controlling the government of nigeria and arresting the development of southerners because in the south, all other groups from Yoruba to the minorities are afraid of Igbo domination and will rather be enslaved by the awusas than finding ways to work for the division of nigeria so they can go and manage themselves on their own. How can Igbo dominate you when you are not even in the same country with them? is that not the mind set of fools?
The minorities have always thought that in the event of division of nigeria that Igbos will conquer them and enslave them, but all this myth only exist inside their brains without any proof. Myopic thoughts like this are very much abound in some threads in this forum. back to your question again, the "cold civil war" shall continue until the demise of nigeria due to the unfounded suspicion of Igbo people by other groups from Yorubas, awusas and the minority goups.
You've spoken like a true tribalist. Next time, remember to call it Yorubas and not Yoruba's.

North can never catch up with South -Balarabe Musa

From Ayodele Adesanmi and Akin Durodola, Abuja
Monday, October 6, 2008
CHAIRMAN of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and former governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has said that there is nothing the North can do to catch up with the development in the South.

Musa, in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, scored the present administration of Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua low, saying he could not perform better because he was imposed on the nation.

Alhaji Musa said the whole of the country was underdeveloped but the North was more underdeveloped, adding that “there is a 40-year gap in educational development between the South and some parts of the country and the North.

“No matter the efforts, the North would never catch up unless there is a revolution,” he said. “When I became the governor of old Kaduna State in 1979, we made it public that within 26 years, Kaduna would match the educational development of Oyo State and if the succeeding governor had continued, Kaduna would have been there today,” he said.

Speaking on the 48th independence anniversary of the country, Musa said Nigeria had lost what it had during the colonial days and the First Republic, attributing the failure to successive past leaders.

He said the country, at 48, had nothing to celebrate and may continue in that direction if the same set of people who had been leading still occupied the position of authority.

“Throughout the history of this country, particularly since the First Republic, the country had been controlled by a socio-economic system which is centred on self interest and produced a political leadership that owed the system,” he said.

Deepzone don born-again.
I've always been like this. People shouldn't mix criticism with tribalism. We know the real tribalists here but I must say that you are among the very few here that contributes a constructive argument without an iota of tribalism. I think it'll be better you tell nairaland how you achieved that feat and whether it's by mind training, religion or you were that way from birth. It's a pity that even members here that are very religious quickly throw the religion out of the window whenever the issue of tribalism is at hand. I hope you are like that too outside nairaland.

Solution to the problem? Let's start from the micro level, from Nairaland here. Let's ask that moderator delete topics that definitely have tribal-bashing undertone like:

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-174668.0.html

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-179357.0.html
What good will deleting the threads serve when the people here still bear their tribal grudges? You can wash a pig clean but it will still go back to the mud. Good idea tho.

Again, @McUsman, I surrender, call your brothers together and call off the cold war.
