@ALL,

This is another explanation of how the motors(jacks) moves the dish.

SATELLITE               MOTOR A(ELEVATION)               MOTOR B(AZIMUTH)

HOTBIRD 13E          1132                                          1074                      -OFFSET LNB

ASTRA 19E              1013                                          1148                      -OFFSET LNB

EUROBIRD 9           822                                             1213                      -OFFSET LNB

NILESAT                 1054                                            412                       -CENTRE LNB

NILESAT                 1046                                            410                       -CENTRE LNB(MBC PERSIA AND SOME OTHERS)

THOR 1.0 W           1111                                             445                      -CENTRE LNB

the secound nile sat marked purple is for some channels on ab4 beam.so u will have to shift the elevation down a little bit to get a perfect reception of those channels.

note that all the providers on east makes use of the offset lnb(the white one) for reception while all providers on the west makes use of the centre lnb(the one with red cover)

have a look at the positioner.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Dejsam(m): 5:35pm On Jan 23, 2010
@ALL ,

have a very close look of the lnb's as i earlier explained in the recent installation post.

obnelly:
Great,but pls what other packages does thid dream box work with outside hotbirds packages.does it works with nilesat as well.?
@obnelly,

Dreambox opens about 58 different providers(note that i mean providers not 58 channels).so u should know what that means.

let me give u the ones at our reach here:

SHOWTIME ARABIA

ALJAZEERA PACKAGE

ART PACKAGE

OTHERS INCLUDES:

NOVA

POLSAT

CYFRA + AND SO  MANY OTHERS DEPENDING ON THE SIZE U HAVE.

in  fact dreambox is all about u having the required dish size to open the package u want.

Hi all house members,
This are the results of the recently concluded 5 meter dish installation @warri together with my team members from kano.The dish belongs to a respected member of this great forum in person of BUTONEDAY
1-DISH FEATURES.
It is a standard steel constructed dish with aluminium made parabolic face(the paraboloic face is fully aluminium).with total diameter of 5 meter in size.the dish is capable of an azimuth movement of 270 degrees between left and right and also having a focal length of 73/(3.4)inches.it is driven by two jacks,using one for the azimuth turn and the other for the elevation.(refer to picture for details.)
2-DISH INSTALLATION:
The installation of the dish takes a minimum of about 4-5 days by 2-3 people. The construction of the dish basement takes  an average of 10 bags of cement depending on how strong u want it and it takes two days to dry at an average.the assembling of the dish stand and the parabolic base takes about two days too.then the tracking takes as much time as u want cos u will have to keep tracking everything that is trackable,and finally the cabling.
The dish is presently fitted with two ku band scaller rings and each of the ring is  carrying a ku lnb fitted with brass rings to make it a prime focus lnb which will as well boost the lnb’s signal reception. one of the lnb is centered and the other one is offset.the centered one is an echosat quad lnb and the offset one is a digisat quad lnb.both lnb’s are positioned inversely against each other.this is because of polarity challenge between providers on the east and on the west  due to the azimuth movement nature of the dish.(what this means is that if u are using just an lnb on it and u are moving from one position to another,the polarity will keep switching at every movement because the dish does not move like the normal motorized up and down movement that is widely known by all)so what we did was to use two lnb’s inversely positioned.

DISH POSITIONING:

HOTBIRD:

ELEVATION IN WARRI=11 DEGREES EAST
AZIMUTH IN WARRI=132 DEGREES EAST

NILESAT :

ELEVATION IN WARRI=17 DEGREES WEST------------------------------ELEVATION IN KANO=22 DEGREES WEST
AZIMUTH IN WARRI=245 DEGREES WEST-------------------------------AZIMUTH IN KANO=240 DEGREES WEST

The above difference make it glaring that kano  is higher in elevation.

RECEIVABLE HOTBIRD FREQUENCIES IN WARRI:

A total of 130 transponders were receivable on hotbird.some of which are listed below

12140 v 3695 75%
11975 H 27500 79%
11527 H 27500 83%
11745 H 27500 83%

12189 V 27500 82%
11357 V 27500 87%
11201 V 27500 75%

4-AFN NETWORKS
5-ALJAZEERA +1---------+10
6-MEDIA BROADCAST

9-RAI
10-CYFROWY POLSAT
11-BIS
12-ARABESQUE
13-ALL S*X*X*X*X*X CHANNELS AND SO MANY OTHER PROVIDERS TOO.

Having a total of about 1,367 channels on hotbird.

All the above listed providers  and number of channels are all showing using a dreambox  receiver(DM 500S) which I took down to warri myself,and i am still in warri as i am making this post.

NILESAT:

Nilesat at warri gave a very big surprise using this 5 meter dish.the signal quality was something else even better than we originally expected.though,the dish when tested in kano before we brought it to warri  gives nothing less than 98% on all receivable frequencies.but the least frequency at warri gave about 64%.some of the frequencies that we got are:

11744 v 27479-89%
11764 v 27498-82%
11738 v 27494 -94%

nice work.

@lolu

long time, now everyone will start calling me "key guy"

@all

I have used a motorized 1.8m dish and then moved on to a fixed 2.4m dish for my nilesat before moving to a 3m dish for nilesat as so on

the point on the fixed/motoriized arguement is thus:

if you want real entertainment in one package, a fixed 3m for niilesat is your best bet, because, u do not need to wait to flip channels, imagine watching SABC at intelsat 902 at 62E on your motorized dish and all of a sudden you need to change to cnn on Nss 7 cband at 22w and then u need to go back, apart from the wear and tear of motorizing your dish, it gets really cumbersome after some time, but as Lolu pointed out. a motorized dish is great for anyone trying to experiment, but remember you can only watch one satellite at a time, so at the end of the day, your motorized dish is basically a fixed dish at some point.

@all

just laid my hand on a dreambox 500s like a mentioned a couple of days back and the question i keep asking myself is this:

how can the best technlology in the Satellite world have taken this long to get to us here?

this box is the BEST DECODER I have seen in my life
i will keep you updated .

whats this CAS update? i joined the FTA community with the echolink 3030usb model on 1.8m strong offset dish(dont know why they call it offset) since april09 and was enjoing all the channels on nilesat until recently most of the entertaining channels went off,
@all
i'am miffed and my wife that used to enjoy channels such as reality, nat geogr, discovery et all is getting frustrated by the day because each time i try the new updates they dont work, no more art sports, aljazeera sport etc, the most painful part is having to return to viewing centers to watch Nations cup mayches. Are there alternate decoders, sattelites, LNB or card that i can use to open these channels? because we are seriously contemplating on returning to dstv.
thanks.
@skalamanga,

i would have explained what cas update is all about to u.but that can't be done on the forum now.its usually a discussion at the backyard or private message or mail discussion.cas data update for echolink is available as at now for ART and JSP on nilesat.but i cant get accross to u.u can drop ur mailbox.will get accross to u when i am sending to my people too.

hope this will help u a little.

Or perhaps, I should forget about reviving it.

@Ecowas4All,
@alancruise,
@all,

I'm reluctant to delve into the issue of solar power here seeing as this thread is all about FTA but since we all need stable power supply to enjoy whatever stations we succeed in tracking, maybe it may not be out of place to give a little info about my installation.

The system comprises basically of a 5kva inverter with a 48v battery bank of four 12v 200AH deepcycle batteries. This feeds the house load while the solar modules feeds the battery bank. All this while I've been recharging via nepa light until recently when I installed those sharp solar modules. The panels are two pieces 200w, 34.8v/4.9A sharp modules connected in series combined to give a total 400w/69.9v/4.9A charging power for the battery bank. The modules supply power through a charge controller which regulates the charge current-as the name implies. As a hybrid system, I can use nepa to charge when public power is available and I can also use the sun to charge when nepa fails. Better still, I can use both at the same time.

As for the cost, I'd say it's not for the faint-hearted. And that to me is what has been discouraging most people from going this road. One 12v/200AH battery alone is about 52k. A good 5kva inverter goes for around N180k. One 200w sharp solar module goes for about N180K. You do the maths and see what I mean.

However, cost aside, for those who can afford it, its still way better than having a heavy duty diesel/petrol guzzling gen set at home. Why? Because besides the batteries which may need change out every 5 to 7 years, the system is virtually maintenance-free. No petrol or diesel, no servicing, no smoke, no noise, no black oil on the floor. Just press the buton and use power from heaven to watch nilesat! smiley
@george D,

this is really a nice one.keep it going.i have also increased in knowledge.thanks for this post.

      Back from jungle,very big thanks to butoneday,george d and microgiant for keeping me updated while i was away.
I ve a very serious issue at hand,if there is any body who has the idea of how i ll separate up to 20 rf channels before distributing to more than 300 rooms should please help me with a solution. What i mean is that am using 20 receivers and am gonna bring out one channel from each receiver through rf,how do i then separate the channels without conflicts. Which device am i gonna use to separate the channels and how do i get a very good picture quality in all the 300 rooms. Some rooms range above 300meters. Please guys i need solutions and suggestions.
@ Olofofo
          I was unable to get u all this while. I ll be in jungle all tru the month and i want to get in touch with u.
@pito,

what i will suggest u do is to assign frequency to each receiver.u know the uhf frequency is withen 21-69.so assign frequency to each receiver and

may be u should even give a space between them like(21,23,25,27,29,31,33,35,etc)i think this will help u get all the channels on each tv set with

out conflict since each receiver has been given a uhf frequency.

Predator is now available in naija

The decoder is too much. it works with espn frequency in nile for hotbird almost 90%,all nile and mcsa

There also agadget that works the same way as the above decoder,you can attach it to any decoder to descramble the above channels,it is cheaper than predator. This works like server to either your strong or any other decoder. for more info call me.
@butoneday,

just a look on the receiver ,u know if its fake or original.it all depends on how familiar u are with strong receivers.but one major feature u look out for is the ISBN behind the receiver and the finishing of the receiver itself.then take a look at the panel inside of it,u will see that the cloned one has a much more green colour than the original strong panel.

just be very careful sha
