Ezmans:This is the single largest number of tractors ever purchased in the history of Nigeria. And more will be purchased. Let us appreciate some progress. If previous governments had been making similar strides, things will have been better. |
Another good thing is, these are some of the toughest tractors in the world. I don't know of other parts of Nigeria, but most tractors in the South West break down so often because outside of the raining season, the soil here can be quite hard and difficult to penetrate by Chinese and other tractors.. With these Belarussian tractors, breakdowns will reduce - this can only translate to more productivity per tractor. Excellent job by the President. |
Great. It is not going to be easy for a Nigerian President who know what he's doing to lose a Presidential election. Nigerians say they prefer cheaper rice and garri to building the foundation for long term economic prosperity. Mr President, give it to them. A year to election, start opening the import gate - use the foreign reserves to import rice massively and bring the price down to N45000. Shebi it was the President that built the Reserve from $3 billion that Mr Buhari left to the $24 billion we have now. They say 'na who $24 billion help'. Then the President use the money to import everything they say they want cheaper. Send most of the $24 billion to China, let them send us women's hair and everything else cheap cheap. Do it Mr President. It is what most Nigerians want. They say dollar is too high. No problem. One year to election the President should start using the dollar reserve he is building for their future to feed them now. They say they can't wait, they want it now! Like under Mr Jonathan who used huge foreign reserves to import everything under the sun to keep them happy only to leave office with Mrs Okonjoeweala borrowing money to pay salaries while Mr Jonatha's Minister, Mrs Deziani allegedly helped herself to $2 billion. Mr Tinubu, Nigerians say they prefer that type of government..just give it to them. While Ghana is slowly building the foundation for a middle-income economy, most Nigerians want ruinous short-term satisfaction. The same 'give it to us now' mentality the country has practiced since independence that has only taken the country backwards. Mr President, just give them their stomach satisfaction. Now. |
N65 billion. That's Incredible. Another N131 million for gardening. I laugh at youths who think politicians in other parties are different from the APC lot. The financial damage that PDP has sone to this country over the years can never be forgotten. |
This will be massive for META and users who are in a position to take advantage of the advertising opportunities. I don't even know how to use Facebook, but WhatsApp, phew, hundreds of millions of people use it several times a day. Most of my clients are frustrated if we send documents to them by email. They want everything by WhatsApp. The WhatsApp addiction is real. People are rapidly abandoning emails. |
Amitex:A person is indisposed if they are unwell / sick. As the Secretary is not sick, you can’t claim he is indisposed. The PDP should just recognise the authentic Secretary whose term in office will lapse in October, and stop running helter-skelter. |
No doubt we will soon be told here that he did really mean it, or that the newspaper made it up. When you analyse Nigeria's history dispassionately and with a calm head, you will find that the top echelons of the South West political class have always been the least likely to make inflammatory remarks about people or groups outside the region. For example, you would not find any top tier political leader in the SW come out and say Mr Kanu should be sent to life imprisonment, this or that. It just won't happen because in our side, it is drummed into your head at a very early age that what is not your business in not your business. |
Celestialsword:40 words is actually a lot for many. Advantages 1. The increased depth of postings may improve nairaland's status as a source/research tool. 2. It may improve the quality of postings. Potential disadvantages 1. It may/will reduce the overall number of posts. 2. Posts may improve in quality, but that is not guaranteed as posters may resort to filling the 40-word gap will much lower quality content. 3. The brevity, sharpness, and quick wits that characterise many short and very short post posts will be lost. |
So this is going to spill into a Rivers vs Bayelsa tussle. The Bayelsa Senator said his opinion, what's the point of calling a press conference to respond him. |
My responses tend to be long naturally. However, for the sake of others, I suggest the number be reduced from 40 to maybe 30. At 40, there is a risk that quality becomes even more subverted as some commenters simply add meaningless content just to reach the 40-ward threshold. |
NNPCL is now pumping moneeey! Reforms are working. Just a month or so after Mr Ojulari's appointment. Yet, some people want to bring back the same failures who had all the opportunities under Mr Buhari's government, but didn't achieve anything. The same NNPC that has struggled financially for over 30 years is now being turned around. Please let Mr Tinubu continue his good work. |
The 'nobody will vote for Tinubu in 2027' people will be very unhappy about this. |
It's so funny. When Grog's response didn't go his way, he threw a childish tantrum, and virtually accused an inanimate object of impartiality. ![]() |
olawaleatanda:How on earth did that statement correlate with tribalism. The poster actually made a credible point - to some extent. Another point is that under Mr Jonathan, Nigeria earned so much money from crude oil and that kept the naira strong to some extent. That in turn meant the price of imported goods were cheaper. But, the economy started going badly towards that last year of Mr Jonathan, after most of the money had been stolen or shared by Mr Jonathan's PDP people. Infact Nigerians were left in shock when about 9 moths to the 2015 election Mrs Okonjo-Iweala announced that the federal government had no money to pay salaries because all the huge crude oil monies had disappeared. For the first time, the Federal government had to borrow to pay salaries. When Mr Buhari took over from Mr Jonathan, his government confirmed that they met virtually no money. Nigeria has not balanced since that time. So, tgere is no doubt that many of Nigeria's problems today started under and was caused by Mr Jonathan's government. Remember Mrs Diezani Madueke, who was alleged to have made off with over $2 billion dollars? And several other PDP politicians who stole huge amounts and fled the country? Of course, you will conveniently not remember. |
I think Ghana will attain the status of 'developed country' before Nigeria. Ghana is civilising gradually. When I bump into Ghanain YouTube videos of how they build houses in Ghana, I see them honestly trying to abide by the country's building code. Their materials - roofing, window frames etc appear to be better quality than ours. They also seem to be more united as a people. Not that they are perfect. Above all, they appear more willing to obey laws. Nigeria is just lau lau, anything goes. I sneakily admire Ivory Coast and Ghana. |
Goodvibes007:Yorubas are not Olukunmi because 'that's what they call them in Delta'. As a word, Olukunmi has been part of the Yoruba lexicon from time immemorial. It means My Friend. In places like Owo, and I think may be Okitipupa, in Ondo State and a few other places, till today, you refer to your friend as Olukunmi. People from these places don't instinctively use 'ore' as those from Oyo, Lagos, Ekiti etc do. It is no coincidence that the Itshekiri and the Olukumi's migration from Yoruba land originated from or passed through Owo. |
Interesting. Been observing this man for some months now: he is an expert in speaking from both sides of the mouth. You see him on Channels TV, attacking Mr Tinubu's government vociferously. The following week he returns to Channels, and attacks Mr Obi. Next, he is on Trust TV saying Mr Obi is a very good candidate who should come back to the PDP and partner with Atiku. Just wait another week, he is on Arise TV saying that Atiku cannot use PDP as his personal tool, and that the party is bigger than him. Another week again, you'll see photos of him visiting and shaking hands with Mr Tinubu. Talk of going round in circles. ![]() |
DEROX:Ofcourse you will prefer a soft Awoist that you can easily defeat in elections. The only reason you crave an Awoist is because Mr Tinubu is a tough nut for opposition to crack. The great Awo stands on his unrivalled pedestal. Mr Tinubu is Mr Tinubu. He is the man for this moment. We need this sort of tough man to stand up to the crooks in PDP and the other parties. |
I hope Southerners key into this program and not dismiss the expected foreign investment from Brazil as fake. If you don't, don't complain when Northerners key in as usual and take most the benefits. Check the relevant ministry or NIRSAL website, follow them on twitter etc If you're interested apply for training. |
Had a partner. If she recounts an incident that involved her to me, and I say something like 'why would he/she do that...anyway don't worry about it.' In no time, my girlfriend would say, I knew it! You will support an outsider ahead of me.' Even if I don't know the other party. At that point, me wey I no get time for wahala will be the one to shalaye that I didn't mean it that way. Apology must quickly follow o, otherwise she go spoil the atmosphere for the next few hours. As the saying goes, men are from mars, women are from Venus. Some women expect men to just jump into their situations and start fighting whoever offends them. It doesn't work like that. |
Most 'statistics' from this company are far from accurate. Real statistics is a very serious and methodical activity that takes time to put together. When you have a company dishing out 'statistics' every day, like frying chin chin, you should know it is ridiculous. I usually don't open any thread headlined by Statisense. |
I find Mr Sanwo Olu's alleged conduct shocking. |
Those decamping to APC from PDP are doing so primarily because of the uncertainty hanging over the PDP. Even PDP Governors are fretting because they're not sure if PDP will not be embroiled in complicated and entangled legal warfare that may result in the PDP not being able to field candidates. And even if they're able to field candidates, elected PDP candidates may still be tossed out of office enmass if the courts determine that the wrong faction conducted their primaries, for example. This is a big dilemma for PDP politicians. |
And people wanted the ruinous subsidy retained. Now, with the benefit of hindsight, their leaders go on Arise to say subsidy should not have been removed until palliatives were in place. Another of their favourite phoney line is, the President should have removed subsidy in stages. In reality, we know neither of those options would have resulted in the total removal of subsidy as we thankfully have today. Any President that announces removal in stages would only succeed in removing the first stage because ASUU, NLC and the rest of them would have made the next phase of removal impossible, and anticipation of subsequent phases would have sent goods and food prices as high as full removal did, except we would not have had full removal and prices of everything would still have gone up. As for having palliative in place before removing subsidy? That's laughable. In this Nigeria? How much palliative can a govt put in place before people would say oya, you can now remove subsidy. And where was the money to even continue to pay the subsidy. What the fraudulent subsidy cabal needed was a shock therapy that gave them no time to start sponsoring protests. That shock, that gave them no time to react, was exactly what the President delivered. Nigeria's most decisive, boldest, and most reformist head of state/President since independence, 65 years ago. Full stop. |
That first 30km is a challenging section cutting through some built up areas in Lagos. It was inevitable that that section will take longer. The next section to Ondo State will be easier and I expect they'll do up to another 100km, and go past Ondo State within the next 2 years. Remember construction has started from the Calabar end too. I think this project has a good chance of being completed within the original 7 year time frame. Even if it takes 10 years, it will not be the end of the world. Most big and complex projects around the world are often delivered later than expected, except your name is China. |
Another win for Mr Tinubu's government. Mr Tinubu has also succeeded in increasing crude oil production from 1 million barrels per day under Mr Buhari to over 1.5 million barrels per day. Yet a group of losers who were part and parcel of Mr Buhari's government claim they want Mr Tinubu out in 2027. |
And that's despite a big chunk of Nigeria's crude going to Dangote refinery. This major success is down to Mr Tinubu's ability to increase crude oil production from less than 1 million barrels under Mr Buhari to over 1.5 million barrels in just 2 years. Yet, it is Messrs El Rufai, Malami, Buratai etc that served in Mr Buhari's government during which crude oil production steadily fell to economically suicidal level that are now gathering to form a coalition to reclaim the Presidency. As Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian army under Mr Burutai could not tame the illegal activities in the Niger Delta theat led to crude oil production falling so low. Now, Mr Tinubu has done a wonderful job of increasing production by over 50%, yet this group of Northern born to rule personalities are now telling us they want to return to government, having left just 2 years ago! To think some Southerners are bent on bringing these failures back to govern them is just unbelievable. |
Pass the bill now! We can deal with your own f**k up later. |
Empresa:He won't. The entire Lagos budget is peanuts to the Federal government. |
mrvitalis:It may not be crumbling, but there is no obvious enthusiasm for it. Most Nigerians are not talking about it or appear to be interested. To be fair, it isn't just about the coalition, it is a thing about politics and politicians in general. Most Nigerians are just tired after several decades of unfulfilled promises. As for the coalition, when Nigerians look at those behind it, they see the same set of politicians who have been in power in one role or the other for the last 25 years, and did nothing. You can't blame people for their lack of enthusiasm. |
OldNairalander:I don't think it works exactly like that. I'm not an economist so whatever I say is just my best guess. During the last years of Mr Buhari's government, I believe the govt was spending an estimated $4.5 billion a year on subsidising fuel, and a few billions more to maintain dual naira/dollar exchange rates. Let's estimate both subsidies to be around $7 billion per year. Mr Tinubu scrapped both subsidies. That means most of that $7billion is now available for spending on other things like capital and recurrent expenditure (after it is shared between Federal and State governments), payment of loans, and some savings in the foreign reserve. Secondly, during the last year of Mr Buhari's govt, Nigeria was producing 1m barrels of crude oil per day. Mr Tinubu's government has succeeded in increasing that above 1.5m barrels. The extra 500,000 barrels means additional dollar revenue to the federal and state governments. Note that the CBN keeps the dollars and and releases the equivalent naira for sharing by the government's. Thirdly, on the domestic front, under this government, tax revenues are going gangbusters due to FIRS in particular, generating record revenues. With more revenues coming on, the States' share also increases. As to why despite a disadvantageous exchange rate - compared to some years back, States are now able to do more, it comes down to one simple fact: The amount they are sharing with the FG is about 3.5 times what it used to be while the exchange rate has only increased by a factor of 2.3 or thereabout from around $680 - $700 where it was before. Above all, the money is regular, unlike before where there simply was not enough money available for sharing, and during some months, there was nothing to share so many States depended on borrowing. Since last year, the cash tap has been gushing and doing so consistently. The States are awash with cash right now. It now depends on how each Governor decides to use that money for the benefit of his people. That's what I think has happened. |
A free trade zone requires federal government approval. A State can create something like an enterprise zone or something like that, but it will not have many of the tax advantages that companies located in a proper free trade zone get. |

I thought Tinubu was a true awoist like the likes of chief bola ige, chief Micheal koleoso, Lam adesina, pa fasoranti, chief fasanmi and co but i was wrong
