A new name won't make a difference. If you change the name but the people don't change their ways, the new name will also be tainted in no time. |
During the campaign for APC primaries, he said and did a few things about Mr Tinubu that left a lot to be desired. He thought he was Mr Buhari's golden boy, and felt confident the former President would support him. That support never came. Even after Mr Tinubu's triumph, he went to Mr Amaechi's House to visit as part of reconciliation, yet Mr Amaechi has remained recalcitrant. He is now completely irrelevant. If he gets any relevance in the future, it will likely be restricted to Rivers State. As far as national politics within APC is concerned, I can't see a way back for him. Politicians don't forgive and forget arrogant behaviour. The Tinubu boys won't look past his shenanigans. |
Unless there is an underlying medical condition causing the bow-leg, I would strongly advise you not to subject your baby to a leg surgery. Most surgeries should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. It is risky. Better to have bow-leg than no-leg due to complications from surgery. In most of Europe, it is uncommon to see an adult with the sort of severe bow-legs that is more common in Nigeria. They have an inexpensive and practical solution that works to correct bow-legs in most cases. In the UK, there is this wood construct they attach to each of a toddler's legs which helps to straighten the legs. A toddler's bones are amenable to reshaping because much of their body is less rigid than an adults, so this approach seems to work in most cases in Europe. I am surprised this option is not available through Nigerian hospitals. |
I hope other courts follow this example and start taking the issue of jurisdiction seriously. The way litigants leave their States and head for Abuja courts is ridiculous. A Federal High Court in Abuja is not superior to any Federal High court in any State. |
The government waited to secure Governors support for the tax bills before announcing this policy. Brilliant politicking by the Government. |
Sheuns:That'll be unlawful transfer. Any Chairman that does that, unless for monies genuinely owed to the State government, will have EFCC on his/her back. Also, if a local government constituents see what local government Chairmen in other states are doing for their people, any Chairman that transfers his local government's monies to the State will be under immense pressure from his constituents. The Governor of that State will get a lot of bad press, and come under pressure. All of these will make wholesale transfer of local government funds to a State government unsustainable, and too much headache for both the Chairman and the Governor. |
Fantastic. A massive upper cut to Governors planning to sabotage local government financial autonomy. Messrs Soludo and Oti's new laws to force Anambra and Abia local governments to receive their payments into a joint State and local government account is now worthless. Now, no need for the Attorney General to waste 2 years fighting those laws through the courts while financial autonomy is grounded. Mr Tinubu and his Lagos boys have shown again that their brain is full of Lagos streetwise-ness. |
Dangote is basically saying the massive jump in prices to 1150 is not justified. Petrol stations are the wall of jericho of car owners. Very exploitative and greedy set. If MRS, Heyden, Andove etc can sell at around N950, why did other stations shoot the price up to above N1100 ![]() Greed. If you into app development, this is your opportunity. If you can map out all the locations of all MRS, Andova, Heyden etc in the country, people will be willing to pay a monthly subscription of N500 for it. |
You are one of the leaders in this country, and your country is going through challenges, yet you say you have suggestions but you will not offer them because the people in power are no longer your friends ![]() Petty, and unpatriotic. Your advice may not even be better than what the government is doing already. But what if the advice will make the life of tens if millions better? You will deny them because of your stated reason? If you don't want to advice (which is your right), why did you have to announce it to the world. What example does this sort of unpatriotic mindset set for young people about 'national interest', 'sacrifice for your country' etc The valiant men in the military putting their lives on the line and sacrificing to fight off insecurity, should they only do so if they like the government of the day? |
OkayDaddy:The humongous amount certainly raises eye brows. Especially when you realise that there are probably not up to 500 people in Nigeria worth more than $200 million. |
Those who approved a $200 million loan to a journalist who is reported to have a chequered credit history to run an oil well did a horrible job. There is a valid question to be asked about how much a journalist, however senior, knows about oil exploration and production. And why did the Agreement under which the crude oil production proceeds were to be shared 50/50 between first bank and Mr Obaigbena's company not put the most stringent conditions and measures in place to ensure the company could not divert proceeds or the crude oil. So, you people sat in your air conditioned offices in Lagos trusting that Mr Obaigbena will be honest in sending the proceeds to you guys without proper onsite oversight. While I am not in a position to attest to Mr Obaigbena's honesty or otherwise, you simply don't do business like this in Nigeria. The first bank people who approved the loan, and managed the relationship thereafter were either incompetent, negligent, or both. |
Cocoa price on the international market has reached record levels in the past 2 years. Cocoa is now super expensive. Add to that the exchange rate, and you have skyrocketing prices of any product with real cocoa in it. Cocoa farmers and traders are making tons of money now. |
Oghene86:It will probably be someone from the South South, or Kwara. Akpabio, Oshiomole, and Mr Wike will find someone from the South South. The other option is someone from Kwara, North Central. One thing is certain, the appointment will be made very carefully. |
So many shades of democracy practiced around the world. And it doesn't appear to work properly anywhere. The South Korean democracy is laughable...how can a democratically elected President declare martial law, over some domestic issues. As for Nigeria, it is difficult to see how democracy can work properly. It simply can't. Communism is even worse. So which way ![]() |
Then you people should refuse to be co-opted na. What kind of sissy whingeing is this. Especially for a Party that boasted it would govern Nigeria for 60 continuous years. |
Tjra:Arise is a separate legal entity so ordinarily it is protected from the consequences of the actions of the company that owes money to first bank. That said, if First Bank wins the substantive case in court, then First Bank may be able to go after Mr Obaigbena's assets, including his shareholding in Arise TV. But even that is not straightforward. The law will treat Mr Obaigbena as separate from his Companies so only in rare cases will a court allow a creditor to go after the assets of a shareholder/director especially if the latter did not personally guarantee the loan given to his company. This is going to be a long and complex legal battle. The Debtor will use all the legal tricks available to delay and frustrate any court case. But First Bank, led by a tenacious Mr Otedola will have assembled a legal team that is street wise and ready to thwart the other side's shenanigans. |
Over the last 15 years or so, First Bank has proven to be one of the most poorly run banks in Nigeria. The bank almost collapsed and was on financial life support for about 10 years due to a terrible $100 million that it gave to an oil services company over a decade ago. Since then, the bank has gone from being the largest and most profitable bank in the country to being number 5 now. It is shocking to hear that the bank did not learn from the previous experience and went ahead to give a $200 million loan to a company owned by a journalist ![]() What does a journalist know about developing and running an oil well. The current management of first bank needs to investigate the compromising role played by some of the banks previous directors. No wonder the corrupt elements are fighting Mr Otedola through the media. |
Of everything I have read about this man's issue, I still have not seen any tangible offence he committed. Unless any of the participants in the sexual activities are under the US age of consent, or they were forced, manipulated, or deceived into participating, it is difficult to see why 2 or more adults consenting freely to engage in sexual activities in private should be a problem. Not that I am particularly interested in this or any other American palaver (we have too many of our own problems in this country), however, I will maintain a slight interest in seeing what evidence the prosecution finally presents. |
Was pleasantly surprised last week that I was able to withdraw N60,000 at a Zenith ATM. For more than a year, I had not been to any ATM because I wrongly believed all ATMs gave a maximum of 10k ![]() I have got used to not using cash. I have realised that I spend less that way. If I have cash on me, no so so dash I dey dash am out. I am going 100% cashless. |
oyichi:How is he not a good leader? Who is...Mr Jonathan, or Mr Buhari? Mr Tinubu is the best or at least, on course to be the best, elected leader Nigeria has had since independence. If you dispute it, name a better leader. And list what they did that made them the best. |
Never again should a President from the South be afraid to do what is right for the country out of fear of losing Northern votes. If they won't vote for you, they won't vote for you even if you toe their line. Mr Jonathan learnt a bitter lesson. |
I think the loud and vociferous pushback from the Southerners on social medial shocked some of the leaders in the North. I believe they initially assumed, once they come together to denounce the tax bills, the President will panic (as Southern Presidents have tended to do historically) and roll back the bills. However, the President's refusal to yield to NEC request for withdrawal, his statement that there is no going back on the bills, and the refusal of middle beltans to support the predominant Northern position, plus the fierce (though sometimes unnecessarily caustic) social media response weakened the Northern resolve. I think this is a significant and hopefully irreversible psychological victory for the South. They threatened fire and hailstorm, and vowed to vote out the President come 2027. The man called their bluff, and said he doesn't care. When you wan bully someone and the person say, oya, go on, I no fear you. You go weak na. The sense of political supremacy by the North is being consigned to history. |
UHLmoving:No. It is called ruthless efficiency. No noise, no drama. Even the media only got wind just before the deed was done. Brilliant execution. |
When your political opponents wants to run your matter, you self go weak at the extent they will go to. If the man dares to yarn anyhow or issue any bad press release, they will open another page in his 'file'. Information about girlfriends will be released. What he bought for them, his love nest etc The man self go shock ![]() If he still doesn't get the message, no problem. They will publish all his properties and send EFCC after him. The best thing for him right now is to jejely keep quiet, and not say pim. Politics no be joke. Especially in Lagos, where 100% loyalty is non-negotiable. |
bdon123:It can be done. First thing is land, which is easy. Next are buildings. Then trainers & other personnel. Then other physical infrastructure and equipment. There's nothing here that a determined federal government can't do over a 6 - 7 year period. N35 billion per year for 7 years will do it. |
Kobojunkie:The Supreme Court decision requiring payment directly to Local governments supersedes any related provision of the Constitution, so any State hiding behind a secondary provision of the Constitution to thwart or undermine the Supreme Court decision is acting in contempt of the Court. The Supreme Court can haul the Attorney General of Anambra before it to explain the actions of the State, and he could be held in contempt of the Court. That is a serious matter for a lawyer. The only way to overturn the decision of the Supreme Court is via a law promulgated by the National Assembly and assented by the President. You and I know that is not going to happen. So the Supreme Court decision remains final. Mr Soludo and the gentleman in Abia are wasting their time rushing to pass new laws to effectively preserve the status quo. |
The guy from Ogun State government said: 'there is no cause for alarm' ![]() Nigerians and drama. Simple question - is Ogun State prepared for direct payment of allocation to Local Government. He didn't provide a direct answer. Who asked him if there was cause for alarm. |
5 of the largest economies in Africa are on the list: Nigeria - 3.2% Algeria - 3.0% Angola - 2.8% Tunisia -1.6% South Africa- 1.5% So Nigeria is projected to have the highest growth amongst them. Why are you people suggesting this is a bad story for Nigeria? It isn't By the way, Nigerian government's own projection is 3.7% growth in 2025. If Nigeria can hit 3.7% this year despite all its challenges and may be 4.2% in 2026, that would be good. In any case, these are merely projections. Actual growth may end up being higher or lower. |
Interesting fact: If you drive from Oluku Junction in Benin, and you do not turn left or right, that road will take you to Iwo Road, Ibadan. And with just a single left turn at Iwo road round about, Lagos beckons. That's Edo, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Lagos with only one turning. Wonderful. |
That's a very long road cutting across 3 States with several bad sections. N15 billion can't fix it. The sections between Ilesha and Ife towards Oshogbo needs complete re-tarring. I doubt N15 billion can even fix that section. Ilesha to Akure is relatively OK, just needs minor patching. Akure to Owo needs more patching. I haven't travelled Owo - Benin for several years, but it used to be horrible after Ifon. Hopefully N15 billion is just a start and more money will be allocated in future budgets. |
I don't believe Dollar will fall below $1000 within the next 3 years. Whether it is PDP, LP, ZZQ, or VPN in power, it will make no difference. There's no magic anywhere. |
