Politics › Re: Middle Belt Forum Condemns Punch Newspaper’s Criticism Of New Federal Varsity In by DeLaRue: 8:18pm On Jan 10, 2025
I used to consider Punch to be relatively neutral and by and large respectable and apolitical.

But the way they condemn virtually anything and everything that Mr Tinubu's administration does has become a vendetta.

Not only is it unprofessional, it is damaging the reputation of the Punch.

Condemning the establishment of a University in Southern Kaduna whilst turning a blind eye to the 4 new federal institutions in the Northern part of rge State defies logic.

It is laughable when I hear some people suggesting Mr Jonathan should contest again.

Probably the most ineffectual elected President in the history of Nigeria.

He was in power, but not in control.

For a woman with young children, married for 10 years, and in a stressful job, 4 times a month is actually not bad.

That's an average of once a week.

Most married people in the same situation as yours are probably not having sex 3, 4 or 5 times a week.

Twice per week is likely to be more common. So your situation is not far from the norm.

You said you were sure she wasn't cheating. In that case, I think you should work with the current arrangement as putting more pressure on her in that area could cause her to become resentful of your lack of understanding of her stressful job situation.
Politics › Re: There Is No Need To Withdraw Tax Reform Bill – Governor Sule by DeLaRue: 6:58pm On Jan 07, 2025
Northern Governors appear to be looking for soft landing for themselves, since the President called their bluff.

Now he is saying the thing has been explained to them, and they now understand.

Mr Oyedele has not changed his opinion. He has been saying the same thing all along, ie, FIRST READ THE BILLS before overreacting. The bills are not against the North.

It seems the Governors are realising they overreacted.
Politics › Re: Lithium Is A Hidden Treasure In Nigeria's Soil: A Metal That Powers The World by DeLaRue: 4:38pm On Jan 07, 2025
If the Government is wise, it will bring in experts from countries with a strong mining history and established regulatory environment to work with a arefully selected group of Nigerians (not people who will damage the process with corruption) to help us set up regulations and chart a pathway to not only extraction, but also production and export.

Since we don't have the deep experience and expertise in this area, there is nothing to be ashamed of in bringing in foreign experts, particularly from a country like Australia.

This Committee of experts should be domiciled directly in the Office of the President, so that ministerial bearucracy will not hinder them.

We need to ensure that the processing, or at least most of it, takes place here, before being exported.

I think APC supporters were caught unawares by the sudden rise of Mr Obi in the lead up to the last election and the attacks by his supporters on Mr Tinubu.

After Mr Tinubu was declared the winner, his supporters regrouped and they have gone nuclear against Mr Obi and his supporters.

They now attack Mr Obi and his supporters with such overwhelming force that even the mere mention of Mr Obi's name generates disproportionate venom.

Ah well, Mr Obi's supporters did the same to Mr Tinubu before the election.
Politics › Re: Nigeria Has The Largest Number Of Lazy Governors In The World - Isaac Fayose by DeLaRue: 10:42pm On Jan 03, 2025
Ttipsy:
It’s not about lazy governor.

The Nigeria constitution is cruel, unjust

What do you want the governors to the when everything is centralizedhuh?
But the current President is trying his best to decentralise many things, yet some of the Governors are standing in the way.

The Supreme Court has ruled that Federal Government should pay local government funds to them directly, yet, within a few weeks, Mr Soludo in Anambra rushed a bill and passed a law to block financial independence for Anambra local governments.

Soon thereafter, Mr Otti of Abia passed a similar law.

Of all 36 Governors, the only 2 Governors that passed such laws are from the South East.

Yet, Southerners are the ones that have been shouting restructuring! restructuring! for many years.

We have a President from the South that is trying to facilitate one key element of restructuring, yet, it is 2 Southern Governors that are openly trying to frustrate it huh

Tax reform, another restructuring, Northern Governors say no.

How can you say the Governors are not to blame in all of this.

I just don't understand this country.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Gives Marching Orders On Road Maintenance Nationwide by DeLaRue: 8:32pm On Jan 03, 2025
Once all the Development Commission for each region is fully established, maintenance of federal roads within each region should be handed over to each region's Commission.

The idea that 4 or 5 ogas sitting at the Ministry of Works in Abuja can effectively oversee maintenance of federal roads all over the country is unrealistic.

It will never work effectively.

These works should be overseen by Development Commissions which will be closer to the people and know what is happening to roads within their respective regions.

Imagine each Development Commission having an annual spending allocation of N1 trillion each, development will be faster across all regions.

I think this is what Mr Tinubu is working towards.

But Northern politicians, including, Mr El Rufai have been complaining about federal government providing funding for Lagos Red line.

Hypocrisy of the highest order.

Lagos funded its first 2 rail lines itself. What's wrong with the federal government joining hands with the State government to construct the other one.

When the red line starts operating, is it only South West people that will be allowed to board it?

It is good too that the federal government is building something like this in Kano.

If not mechanic, may be furniture making/carpentry.

Furniture sells very well in Nigerian cities, and more and more people are projected to move from rural areas to urban centres over the next 25 years.

But some of these things are easier said than done.

my brother leave talk. You don't know the power of Nigeria president if you think anybody will be afraid to arrest that bandit
If it was that easy, how come Mr Jonathan could not use the power when he was dribbled, intimidated, threatened and eventually kicked out by the Hausa/Fulani conglomerate.

His party Chairman then even supported Mr Buhari.

A Nigerian President clearly has a lot of powers and levers to pull.

The question is, does the President have the courage and boldness to use that power for the good of the country.

In that regard, Mr Tinubu is distinguishing himself as a President who has the courage to use those powers.

Nlfpmod
Why do Southerners need garri transported all the way from the North.

I know why: laziness.

Cassava grows nearly everywhere in the South.

But with most youths in the South spending all their time fighting this and that on social media, is it any surprise they expect to be spoon-fed by hardworking northern farmers.

I hope the day will come when the North will refuse to bring certain foods down South anymore.

You can't produce food to feed yourself, yet you're the first people to denigrate Northerners as illiterate, this and that.

It is going to be impossible to fix the prices of basic goods.

Only North Korea where the government have 100% control over the citizens can do that.

Nigerians are virtually uncontrollable.

Market men and women will even ask the government price control officers who come to their market ... una dey craze? grin

I can only respect Tinubu if can take the bold step to restructure Nigeria.

And I think that miracles can happen next term
1. Local government financial independence
2. Unifying exchange rates
3. Abolishing fuel subsidy
4. Incoming tax reforms
5. Incoming State police
6. Establishing additional Nigerian aviation training school campuses in 5 other zones, instead of concentrating everything in the North (Kaduna)
7. Establishing a Federal University in Southern Kaduna thereby giving the majority Christian population there some education independence.

This is not restructuring? huh

If restructuring to you means creating regional governments, that is not something a President can do by himself. That requires changing the constitution. The Noth will absolutely oppose any attempt to introduce regional government.

The North's opposition to the tax bills will be child's play compared to what their opposition to any attempt to introduce regional government will look like.

That is why Mr Tinubu is cleverly going after low hanging restructuring fruits that do not require a change of the Constitution.

If you are an advocate of restructuring, you should appreciate Mr Tinubu's bold actions to rebalance the country. This opportunity may not come again for a long time, if ever.

If you are a Southerner or from the middle belt, be grateful. Half bread is better than none. What Mr Tinubu is doing is even more than half bread.

No President before him has been able to do what he is doing.

A President from the North will certainly not do most of these things.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Named THISDAY Man Of The Year For Resilience And Bold Reforms by DeLaRue: 10:08am On Jan 01, 2025
Great.

This day is not even pro APC or the President.

So, this is a surprising, yet welcome recognition of the President's determination, courage, and fortitude.

If you are a Nigerian who has been frustrated that Nigeria has not made the sort of progress it should have since independence, give this President a chance.

He can't change everything that has gone wrong in the last 50 years in less than 2 years. And unless he is a miracle worker, which he is not, and nobody is, it is unlikely that he will be able to change Nigeria into Eldorado in 4 or even 8 years.

But one thing is sure, in just 18 months, this man has shown that he is probably the best President Nigeria has ever had.

If you doubt me, please name any Nigerian President that has done in just 18 months what Mr Tinubu has accomplished in the same time frame.

This man is setting the foundation for Nigeria's economic greatness, but that greatness will only be achieved if future Presidents after him continue to build on the foundation.

Do not be in a rush to vote in another President in 2027 that will destroy the foundation Mr Tinubu is building.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Has Been Steadfast In Addressing Security Issues In Plateau - Mutfwang by DeLaRue:
Anyone that understands politics will know that this visit was not just about security.

I'll bet that this is more about tax reform.

Mr Tinubu will ensure that he secures the full support of the Governors of Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and one or 2 other middle belt states.

Once he locks in the support of the majority of Senators and House of Rep members in those States, and add at least one Senator each from Kogi and Kaduna, the tax bills will pass.

Despite the vociferous push back from Bornu's Governor, I would expect the vice president to deliver the vote of at least the APC Senator representing his constituency in Bornu, even if the VP is privately against the tax bills. Anything short of that will reflect badly on him in the eye of the President.

If the Senator and HOR members from Mr Ganduje's constituency are from the APC, he too would be expected to deliver their votes, whether or not he likes the tax bills.

There are also several legislators from the far North who will vote for the bills especially if the President makes some concessions in one or two areas.

Virtually all Southern Senators and House of Rep members will vote for the bills.

I suspect the desperate threats from Bauchi state Governor reflects a realisation by some Northern leaders that they will not have the votes in the House of Rep and the Senate to block the bills.

It took Dangote refinery several months of producing diesel before it started producing petrol.

It is normal.

Producing petrol is more complex than producing diesel, so it is normal to produce petrol after you have tested the refinery very well with the production of oils like diesel and kerosene.

But in Nigeria, you people's histrionics about very normal industrial processes is pitiful.

I have still not worked out how Mr Atiku's pdp vote collapsed patapata in the last election.

You can say it's because traditional pdp voters voted for Labour.

But, to think a whole pdp got a total vote of just a couple of hundred thousands in Lagos. Unbelievable.

If Mr Atiku couldn't get a decent vote in Lagos in 2023, he has no chance of winning in 2027.

Politics › Re: NERC Orders Transfer Of Ogun Electricity Oversight To OGERC by DeLaRue:
greatiyk4u:
Transferring oversight function to the state electricity regulatory commission is good starting point but it is meaning and useless as far as the national grid madness stays.
A man that has been in power for just 18 months cannot magically solve all the issues bedevelling an old, failing 50 year old grid.

Under Mr Obasanjo, $12 billion was 'spent' on power, yet no tangible result.

Under Mr Jonathan, Nigeria made the most money since gaining independence. The man and his PDP people squandered and stole everything, including Mrs Deziani who ran away with over $2 billion. Next to nothing was invested in the grid.

So what magic can the current President perform.

States generating their own power may not solve the issues surrounding the national grid immediately, but over time with States like Lagos, Rivers, and other rich states generating and distributing their own power, hopefully through their own grid, the pressure on the national grid will start reducing.
Politics › Re: NERC Orders Transfer Of Ogun Electricity Oversight To OGERC by DeLaRue:
That's restructuring right there.

But most people can't see it.

Even if Mr Tinubu only spends 4 years (no thanks to unjustified bitterness from some people from the South who are determined to foist another ineffective leader on this country), we will look back and thank him for the on-the-low restructuring that he is putting in place.

Local govt will now get their funds directly.

Each State can now generate and regulate electricity (Mr Buhari gets some credit here too)

Tax reform is coming.

State police is coming.

And I am sure he has more under his belt.

Only a strong, stubborn President from the South can do all these.

Yet, the same Southerners that have been shouting restructuring! restructuring! over the years are the ones now vowing they will vote another Northern president in 2027.

Just because of unnecessary hate for Mr Tinubu.

Someone up there even called her imperial majesty.

She is a divorcee from Akure. Nothing more.

Not that I see a legal basis for keeping her and the other man in detention for more than 2 days or thereabout while the Police continue their investigation, and whenever they need her, they can invite her back to the station.

The lady was not likely to flee if she was released on police bail after the first 2 days.

The man has a radio station (I hope I am correct), and probably other businesses in Ibadan, probably has children and a wife, so he too is unlikely to be a flight risk if granted bail.

Their prolonged detention is questionable, and I expect they will be granted bail on their first appearance before a court.

If northerners can't control a President from the South, they start issuing threats.

Or like they did with Mr Jonathan, they intimidate, and start plotting to vote against the person.

In their heads, they control Nigeria.

When Buhari filled all important Government agencies and parastatals with Northerners, Northerners kept quiet because they liked it.

They can do whatever they like, but the current President cannot be intimidated.
