Mixed feelings on this news:

-Happy my president is pushing ahead with critical capital expenditure in the East despite the un-explainable hatred. Something no other president has done since 1999 (the massive road interventions, that is)

-Annoyed at the veiw of the lazy glory-hunter sinators trying to take credit where they did diddly-sqat. See as that idiot called Theo Orji dey talk too, after leaving the road unattended for 8 years.

-Uncomfortable with FERMA as the project driver. They hardly use reputable contractors. This road should not be handled by class B contractors.

-This is the change I voted for, even with greatly reduced revenue PMB leadership is delivering results where hero failed horribly.

God bless Buhari. Yagazie

Politics / Re: No Money To Pay Pensions, Gratuities – Enugu Governor by DelGardo: 6:53pm On Dec 19, 2016
My poor mum, who retired over 10yrs ago has not received her gratuity. Her tiny pension is irregular, with substantial backlog.

Many have died after years of honest service to Enugu State, but people like Gburugburu dont care.

Buhari has just released money for pensioners and it is in your best interest to pay them.

We, their children, have enough resources to bring you guys to justice or make it hard for your government to steal that money for sh*t.

Keep dancing around... it is only for a short while... odi adigide o nwa mgbe nta.

A president cannot b this timid, lest he loses d plot.
Even the most democratic country in d world,America, the president has some exclusive powers, outside of d constitution he uses.
PMB due to his embarassing timidity and costly snail speed decision making is dragging everyone down!
His decision making tardiness is costing us all.
His timidity has unleashed d kinds of impunity never seen in the short era of Yar Adua or d fisherman. This has given rise to 2 state govs,in Fayose and Wike almost running parallel govts!Where does dat happen, even in d western democracies!?
His timidity has also created a new cabal in Aso rock that are corrupt, carry out illegal, mass scale recruitments and decide who and who not to be haunted by d EFCC and pther law agents.
I still stand by what i sed,if he continues dis way,he aint fit and shud handover to Osinbajo. If no one is seeing d calamity we are heading with pmb style of governance its a mighty pity!

I share your view in parts... those two are pushing all the wrong buttons. But it is a trap, bear this in mind always. There is a thin line between being 'timid' and being stupid.

.The level of impunity in the land is unprecedented.
Even as clueless as d fisherman was, never heard any governor reporting d FG to a foreign country, never heard any governor having d effrontery to stop DSS from arresting a judge, calling himself a co president, now virtually saying they wont operate in d state again etc.
If governing Nigeria and making everyone including govs conform to laws is beyond PMB,he shud hand over to Osinbajo because even within d presidency and his appointees, the level of impunity is getting out of hand.Osinbajo cannot do worse than PMB i bliv, eventhough i dont rate d VP that highly.

What happened to you?
Have you forgotten the immunity clause and our useless judiciary?.
Besides you want him to play into their hands having led their dumb supporters to label him a tyrant in their campaign of calumny?
They want him to use a heavy hand... that's why they rile him with provocative statements and actions.

Nah, PMB is smarter than that, he will pick his fights and ignore non-entities. Bigger issues like BH, corruption and the economy should be the focus... for now. Their time will come.

porka:

They can't generate enough income to run their budget.

They miscalculated on fines and taxes through bogus assumptions from Lagos IGR conjectures/exaggerations - recall that they slammed MTN over a N1trn fine - such were the amount of irrationality they brought to government.

They couldn't swallow their pride to accommodate the Niger Delta amnesty program that has proven workable since Yaradua administration. They stopped the amnesty program immediately they assumed office just because of an over-bloated ego. The pipeline surveillance contracts awarded to ensure a 'buy-in' of the Niger Delta and forestall sabotage were similarly crudely stopped. Not because they found any alternatives with technology or military superior techniques but to just satisfy their irrational ego - 'the New Sherrifat in Town things.' The results were a devastating blowout of oil pipelines that has reduced our production capacity significantly.

And then they lacked the foresight and requisite strategies, skills and experience to deal with the oil price ‎volatility. We couldn't even get buyers for our oil at a point.

They can't attract any tangible foreign investments - both portfolio and FDI. No investor takes us seriously. ‎Those already in are leaving. Those who don't have immediate exit plans are not expanding, they are merely 'coping'. Reports had it that over $80b dollars was pulled out of the country by investors in the first six months of this government.

Now, the country has totally been ran aground by Buhari and his gang. No money and no financial institution is ready to lend to us - except Akinwumi Adesina's AfDB that has granted us this paltry $600m, which they have added to the foreign exchange reserves and for which they are clinking glasses all over town. Note that the request made to AfDB was for $1b. ‎

The 'multi-quadrillion dollars' they alleged was 'looted' and for which they roamed the whole planet to 'repatriate' has not yielded anything. They don't even have money to pay to forensic accountants and lawyers to help them 'trace the loots'.

What is more? The TSA as the 'cure-all capsule' has proven to be a disaster. ‎That is why ASUU is militant about getting itself excluded from it. More organizations with enough 'industrial muscles' could follow on ASUU's steps to opt out soon. ‎

Food costs will continue to increase; very soon, basic medicines and drugs in the hospitals will disappear, leading to high mortality rate. More companies will close down - with the attendant loss of jobs in the millions. ‎

Now, we are at the most vulnerable position we have ever been fiscally. IMF and World Bank are excited about our situation, as it were‎. They will come with their extreme 'policy support instruments' to be met with little or no formidable resistance, because, at this juncture we don't have any leverage. No bargaining chips.

We are in a very bad shape.

Oh really?
At what point should we remind you that the former administration did not save a kobo? Or that they were already borrowing to pay salaries with only, N18b CAPEX for Min of Works in 2015?

Should we also remind you that oil prices fell by over 50%?

You need a cuddle bro. Get some.

Mediocrity you call it?

Your hero met over 40 billion US dollars in foreign exchange account and the excess crude account at over 20 billion US dollars. With oil selling over 100 dollars per barrel almost throughout his reign, imagine if he added a billion US dollars every two months.

That will leave you with what? 2 x 30 = 60 + 47 = 107 billion US dollars. That's asides the 20 billion in the excess crude account.

But what did we end up having? He left 32 billion US dollars in Forex account and almost nothing in ECA.

So, where did the $75b go? How about the $20b?

This is despite having that overated woman in glasses as coordinating minister for the economy within the same period.

What's your definition of mediocrity again?

Hero was a disaster.
Now someone is building up reserves despite fall in oil prices and economic/political sabotage.

We are making progress. May clueless and greedy people never lead us again.

Politics / External Reserves Hit Three Month High Near $25bn by DelGardo: 10:59am On Dec 12, 2016
The nation’s foreign exchange reserves have risen to a three-month high of $24.97bn from a low of $23.89bn on October 19, the latest data from the Central Bank of Nigeria has shown. The reserves have dropped by 15.9 per cent from last year when they closed at $29.7bn.

The reserves declined to $24.92bn on September 14 from $25.11bn on September 9, according to the data. At the end of November, the reserves stood at $24.77bn, up from $23.95bn on October 31. The CBN had on June 20 lifted its 16-month-old currency peg and auctioned about $4bn on the spot and futures market to clear a backlog of dollar demand to help boost interbank market trading.

The reserves fell from $26bn on August 4, 2016 to $25.97bn on August 5 as the central bank stepped up dollar sales to boost liquidity at the interbank market and support the ailing naira. The naira, which touched an all-time low of 365.25 per dollar on August 18 at the official market, has consistently closed around 305.5 in recent weeks.

Analysts at FBNQuest, a part of the FBN Holdings Group, in a note entitled ‘A rare increase in reserves,’ said the CBN data showed that gross official reserves picked up by $820m in November on a 30-day moving average basis to $24.8bn.

They noted that the monthly average movement had been an outflow of $430m over the past 12 months.

“This first sizeable increase since July 2015, when the forex holdings of public bosies were transferred to the CBN, is apparently due to the disbursement of $600m by the African Development Bank in the form of budget support. We do not see another inflow on this scale until the first quarter of 2017, when the sovereign Eurobond is due to be launched,” the analysts said.

According to FBNQuest, the reserves may appear comfortable according to one traditional measure: on the basis of the balance of payments for the 12 months through to end-June, they provide cover for 6.6 months’ merchandise imports and for 4.6 months when we add services.

It said, “The cushion is not wholly the CBN’s. Its latest figures (from June) show that it is the owner of 73 per cent of reserves.

“Given the oil price and allowing for the OPEC accord in Vienna last week, and seeing still robust import demand, the CBN is playing cautiously. Since August, it has sold just $1.5m per day. In addition, it has honoured four forward contracts since the devaluation/liberalisation in June, and held a special forex auction for petroleum marketers this week.”

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF) Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita has assured that the Federal Civil Servants would get 1000 housing units within six months under the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) programme.
She gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja while hosting a delegation of Brains and Hammers Estate developers in her office.
She said that housing for Nigerians is a priority of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and that the civil servants that implement government policies deserve the lion share of policies at achieving that.
Oyo-Ita said: "Military and Para-Military agencies have housing schemes including post-service schemes. The civil servants who formed the large part of policy drive deserve to have theirs. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/property/federal-workers-to-get-1000-houses-in-6-months/174614.html

The reason PDP has had it easy in Enugu in the past is because they have produced candidates that i'll call "Safe candidates". They are not the best in the world but they are also not that bad. They've been average people who are not doing anything out of this world, but are trying to maintain the pride of Enugu, so people never saw any reason to push them out. But with Ugwuanyi, things may begin to change and we sincerely need that competition. It's not just APGA, every political party in Enugu state should be on their toes, so that our leaders will sit up.

It is really not about the part per se but the candidates they bring forward. APGA is not doing badly in Anambra state. It won't be bad if we can have a governor in the mold of Peter Obi or Willie Obiano. I really don't know what ugwuanyi's plan for Enugu is really?

I agree with some of your points but below is what a serious government would have done

Hindsight is perfect science. What matters in public policy is the intention of the maker; outcome may not necessarily meet intent.
Hardly has there ever been a perfect solution to economic crisis and it is harder to make informed decisions in an economy like ours with weak fundamentals.

Moreover why is there so much emphasis on GDP in an import-dependent mono economy?
Convert the GDPs of 2014, 2015 and 2016 from USD to NGN at the prevailing rates and you will see a different picture of growth.

-What was the HDI in those years that GDP was high?
-What does GDP really mean to the guy on the street who could not drive from Itu to Ikot-Ekpene under GEJ but can do so now?
-Does the fact that imported rice is now N28k take a lot away from the fact that we have grown local rice production by over 70% in one year and that we are on course to self sufficiency in a matter of months?

We did not vote out Goodluck because of poor GDP growth but his all round cluelessness. Buhari is battling too many economic variables, and has been slow in some cases, but the vitriol in some comments here is not commensurate with those failings.

I was part of those that campaigned and voted for him but within a year I realized he would be the worst leader Nigeria will ever have and I further realized he alone was responsible for setting Nigeria 20 years back as a result of his first stint as president.. As kids we were taught to blame Babangida and Abacha for most of our woes whilst the real problem was actually Buharis poor leadership in 1984 . As long as the man remains things will get worse and worse. Ask your self has thsi govt ever communicated to you in words or actions exactly where its headed , till today we dont have a roadmap for infrastructure, no road map for FDI, no road map for industrialization, no roadmap for security, no road map for electricity, no KPIs for critical sectors till date.... This man seems to have a lot to say but is struggling to make sense. He clearly believed in Buhari but switched to Kwankwaso for some reason and got burnt.

Now he is trying to convince himself that he did the right thing whilst hoping to key into current sentiments against Buhari. For example I can't remember when Buhari said he will reduce fuel price to N45/ltr. But this dude flung that into the mix in his bid to throw the General under the bus.

It is not too late to mend fences though, seeing as he has a lot of respect for the President.
