Laurène Martin suffers a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered during Orléans vs Auxerre 🙏🇫🇷

3rd cruciate ligament rupture in 3 seasons 💔

Huge thoughts for you @laurenemartin8

Her words:
“Never 2 without 3… 🦵🏼

After 10 months of hard work, physio, strengthening, cardio, doubts to return to the field as best as possible, I completely tore the ACL in my right knee in a preparation match this week.
It's hard but there is no choice but to accept this sentence.

This little girl had a dream and it is still in her head, that is why I will fight a 3rd time to overcome this ordeal.
It's going to be hard but I'm not going to give up or give up and I'll come back again.

Thank you for your messages 🙏🏼🫶🏼 "

Meet Nkpa Mary Lucky; Nigeria's Youngest Player At The Upcoming 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup

16-year-old Nkpa Mary Lucky is the youngest player in the Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

FIFA's official release of the final squad lists for all 24 participating teams, published on Monday via their official website, confirmed Lucky as the youngest member of the Nigerian contingent.

The tournament, set to kick off on Saturday, is expected to be a significant platform for emerging talents like Lucky. Born on December 22, 2007, Lucky stands at 156 cm tall and plays as a forward for @Heartland Queens FC Owerri. Her impressive performances at the club level have been instrumental in earning her a spot on the national team.

Lucky has been the Owerri side most decorated and rewarded player. The 16-year-old has won numerous Woman of the Match (WOTM) awards while playing for the Owerri side. While she may not yet have the widespread international recognition of her more seasoned counterparts, her inclusion in the World Cup squad highlights her potential as one of the rising stars in Nigerian women's football.

In major tournaments, players like Lucky were often viewed as “wildcards”—bringing a burst of energy and the potential to surprise more experienced opponents.
Her presence on the field could be a crucial factor for Nigeria in tight matches, where unexpected brilliance can turn the tide in favour of her team. All eyes will be on Lucky to see if she can seize this opportunity and make a lasting impact for Nigeria on the world stage.

They should be very careful of conceeding such cheap witted goals so early in a tournament.

Also they should deploy use of ariel balls to score goals from set pieces .

I wonder why Mexico were held 0-0 by Ghana and we are loosing!

SuperFalcons Media Officer Speaks

Thank you, my colleagues , lovers of women football, and the football community :
To God Be The Glory 🙌🏻.

" Your tenure as the MO of the Super Falcons will end in August after the Olympics." Those were the words of the president of the Nigerian Football Federation Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau to me exactly a year ago ( August 2023) in his office in Abuja.
The one year notice by him was very respectful and the most professional exit meeting I could ever dream of.
It was also followed up with his best wishes in our exit chats days ago.

It was an amazing , fullfiling & expository four years with the most successful & most decorated
national football team in Africa.
I am proud to have diligently projected these amazing ladies to the world. They were indeed a quality brand , stressless to project 👏.

I appreciate Nigerians and the lovers of women football, especially. Their support was overwhelming, and most importantly, the players I worked with were accommodating, respectful, and professionals at all times.
Thank you to the two captains i worked with Onome Ebi and currently Rasheedat Ajibade, Mummy GO, Your humility & wisdom are contagious, and I am grateful for your kind words during my exit conversation with you. Your words, " Thank you for all you do ma'am , God bless you."

I worked with two presidents at various times. Thank you, President Emeritus Amaju Pinnick, for endorsing my nomination & appointing my humble self in 2020 and to Alhaji Musa Gusau for considering continuity upon your assumption of office.
To the Guild of Editors and their president NwokeOma Tony Ubani (you are one in a million), my colleagues, and my closest family in the profession - the female broadcasters group - I say thank you.

It was an honour to serve as the 5th Media Officer of the Super Falcons of Nigeria , the first ex female footballer to serve in that capacity and the longest serving MO of the team

The Almighty God that breaks all protocols was gracious to me. HE guided and ordered my footsteps in all my endeavours.

Thank you, Nigerians ,the president and board members of the NFF, the GS , SWAN Lagos Chapter, Women in football - Former Super Falcons MOs Chisom Mbonu & Remi kisu Sulola, MO of the Golden Eaglets Francis Achi , Emmanuel Aduku (Mees Palace ), Mr Lux, Ms Charlotte & Dr Christian Emeruah (CAF), Godwin Enakhena & Mrs Sabina Ekhaisomi. I am indeed grateful.

My appreciation to Erelu Ronke Ogunleye (Sports Diva) , Janine Anthony (tiktok), Tega Onajaife (LIS) , Dr. Nneka Anibeze, Ogechukwukanma Ogwo (Brilla FM), Odogwu Pat Nwaogu , Barr Seyi Akinwunmi , Kuddy Khillany and many more propellers of my progress as the Media Spokesperson of the Super Falcons.
Coach Randy & Kyle 🥰 take your flowers , Esther & Akaso , I enjoyed our time together.

To everyone who supported me , counselled and criticised positively, I appreciate you all.
We must have disagreed in the course of my work, but trust me, it was inevitable as a rigid principled journalist. Measuring up with standard practise was always on my mind. I strove for excellence & maintained FIFA standard.
The trainings by FIFA , CAF, and Tiktok were maximally utilised.
I appreciate you all.

African Football noticed and appreciated my genuine hard work & potential. She beckoned on me for a higher challenge, and I embraced the challenge joyfully.

Warmest regards
Oluchi 'tobex' tobe-Chukwu

Justin Madugu to step in as NFF searches for Super Falcons coach after Olympics

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is in search of a head coach for the senior women’s national team after the Paris 2024 Olympics.

With the expiration of Randy Waldrum after the Olympics, the country’s football authorities will not appoint a new coach till next year due to non-participation in any game or major tournament this year.

The NFF source added that in a deliberate attempt to get the best from home-based players, Justin Madugu will be announced as Interim coach, and he is set to invite 30 home-based players to camp before the commencement of the 2024/2025 NWFL Premiership season.

The development marks the intended end of Waldrum’s era as Super Falcons coach since 2018.

Without a title in charge, his major highlight was leading the team to the Round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and qualifying the team for the Olympics for the first time since 2008.

Madugu is not new to the team as he was in charge temporarily after the last World Cup while NFF continued negotiation with Waldrum’s contract extension. On an interim basis, Madugu guided the team for three wins and one draw, including a 5-1 aggregate win over Ethiopia in the Olympics Qualifiers and also earned qualification for the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 7-1 aggregate win against Cape Verde.

Since Waldrum took over after the extension of his contract, the team has played eight games with two wins, two draws, and four losses.

In the process, the nine-time African champions scored three goals and conceded six.

Courtney Ozioma Dike made headlines in 2014 when she rejected a $7,000 bonus after representing Nigeria at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Courtney made headlines at the tournament by scoring the fastest goal in FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup history—just 14 seconds into Nigeria's match against Korea Republic

Born in Edmond, Oklahoma, to Nigerian parents Vincent and Jacinta Dike, Courtney grew up excelling in both academics and football. Born on February 3, 1995, Dike is part of a distinguished soccer family. Her brother, Bright Dike, and cousin, Emmanuel Emenike, both played for Nigeria's senior men's national team, the Super Eagles.

At Edmond North High School, she scored over 90 goals and later became one of only seven players in Oklahoma State University (OSU) history to earn all-conference status at least three times.

Dike capped her collegiate career with numerous accolades and graduated in 2017 with a master's degree in accounting.

In 2015, Dike continued to make waves on the international stage, earning two caps for Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Her brief but impactful international career includes representing Nigeria at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, where she made history as the first native Oklahoman to ever play in a World Cup match.

Now 29 years old, Courtney Dike has transitioned from the soccer field to the accounting field. A certified public accountant, she currently resides in Los Angeles, where she continues to contribute to her community in new ways..
