9jaRealist: Duh! Of course the DISCOs are owing because the government is not living up to its end of the bargain... Furthermore, with loss-guaranteed tariffs (averaging about minus N15 kw/h), why would they be owing NBET?
Electricity is not like Akara balls, once produced it cannot be stored, which is why despite the huge electricity deficit in Nigeria, we have a ironic situation of almost 2000MW of “stranded” power (ie, electricity generated but which the DISCOs refuse to distribute because they cannot collect tariffs for same). Like our democracy, Nigerians appear to love the veneer of “markets” without its substance. SMDH
Nonetheless, glad to see that you have apparently LEARNED that it had nothing to do with a “hasty sales agreement”! Again, in case you missed it, what the FG is obligated to pay or not to pay is totally irrelevant because the DISCOs still have to come out of pocket to pay their own bills or maybe you mean the FG is responsible for their entire operations and financial obligations.
Btw, you are wrong, it was a crooked, corrupt, thoughtless, unrealistic, unpatriotic and hastily signed agreement. What's so private about an agreement that saddled the FG for nearly half of the DISCOs and FG subsidies? There's nothing private about privatization because the FG is still involved and on the hook for for hundreds of billions, even trillions forever.
The whole DISCO/Privatization agreement = SCAM. |
Politics › Re: Buhari Declines Assent To Five More Bills - Thisday Newspaper by deomelo: 12:16am On Mar 21, 2019 |
9jaRealist: Quit making shyte up...
The privatization (actually partial privatization) of the electricity sector was done under the Electricity Sector Reform Act of 2005 - that is, a law enacted EIGHT YEARS BEFORE the actual privatization in 2013, not under any so-called “hasty sales agreement”. The reason the DISCOs are struggling are obvious. Among other things, Buhari’s federal government (which still own 40% of each DISCO) has not met its own part of the performance agreement and has not injected its own share of equity funding to enable the DISCOs rehabilitate and expand facilities. In addition, until the government regulator agrees to cost-reflective tariffs (currently held to about an average of N38 kw/h while generation costs about N52 kw/h) the DISCOs will always make losses and will never have attractive enough balance sheet to borrow from banks and debt-finance rehabilitation and expansion. Not to mention that in a country of an estimated nearly 200 million citizens there are just about 6 million registered customers inherited from PHCN records, while the military, police and MDAs continue to default on their electricity bills. To start with, the DISCOs owe Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) and Market Operator debts exceeding N536 billion and regardless of any agreement with the FG, the DISCOS can not survive or deliver any kind of meaningful service.
The Jonathan and the crooks involved designed FG subsidies into the privatization agreement to favor the DISCOs, it's called double dipping. Oil marketers are gaming us with subsidies, DISCOs are also gaming us with their own subsidies. They are all National parasites.
It doesn't matter what the FG is paying or not paying, they can not survive or deliver credible products and services because they not only lack the financial capacity to do so, they also lack managerial and operational skills needed to grow their operations. |

AKSG did it too. now let me tell you what i mean by Visionary. Awolowo. His visions are the Reason why Yorubas are were they are today in terms of Human resources and infrastructural development. That is a visionary who was selfless. he affect Millions in the 6 states of the south west, the mid west and people from the SE benefited. That is the vision i am talking about. what he did has not been replicated in Nigeria. i respect the LASG for doing that. but anybody with money can do that. it takes brains to do what Awo DID. forget we might have these clashes as per tribal stuff but thats the truth. VISIONARY IN THE MOLD OF LEE KWAN YU. This is the first time you have responded without insult. hope your account wasn't hacked. You can not pick and chose what and who is visionary. Tinubu is a visionary leader just like Awo was in his days.
The societal and political environment today and back in Awo's regional administration era when Awo was able to actualize his vision independently with his own funds from the SW are not even the same today so where is the basis for comparison? |

When the VP is absent from meetings @ Aso Rock, it means they banned him from attending and when other people are not part of any gatherings and meetings, it means something tragic or fishy transpired.
How do you reach such conclusions when you are not part of the meetings, when you have zero idea per people's other engagements and priorities they must attend to, besides, there's something in management and public administration termed "Delegation Of Duties".

meccuno: at least they have a choice to decide their future. Thats the one important point i am trying to make in this discussion. a lot can only be achieved with sincere and visionary leaders and i agree without mincing words. i also agree that in as much as the constitution favors the north, a lot can be achieved with visionary leaders but the constitution is a major setback and impediment. take for example my state Anambra state, our IGR is very low and funds are scarce major roads are not constructed using a company like Julius berger whose work probably is the best in Nigeria. no matter how hard you try to make things better, there is little you can do because you do not control your resources which enables you to create direct jobs and automatically creates in direct jobs too. it needs a large population to increase IGR through tax and etc. i agree that the SS and SE do not have visionary leaders but i equally would say that the SW do not have visionary leaders too. unless you have your own personal definition of who a visionary leader is. for example, Awolowo and Zik are clear examples of who a man with a vision is, Sam Mbakwe is one who had vision for his state and people even Jakande. these men were selfless and knew the direction the wanted to take their people to and they had tremendous impact in the lives of their people. These leadership problem in Nigeria cuts across all regions, tribe and ethnic group. what the SW has is a charismatic leader. but thats a discussion for another day. for me the constitution needs to be changed as soon as possible. it impedes development. no matter how visionary you would even be. if Awolowo was restricted with this kind of constitution i doubt if he would have made a massive impact in the lives of the yorubas in education infrastructural facilities and the position he wanted the Yorubas to occupy in the scheme of things in Nigeria. In a thread about sending IPP generated power to the National grid, you concluded that they don't have visionary leaders in the SW when in fact the SW and one of their visionary leaders built the first IPP (271MW) in Nigeria to supply power primarily to Lagosians in Lagos state, a visionary and revolutionary idea that was sabotaged, dismantled and truncated by the shortsighted, unpatriotic and moronic politically bankrupt like OBJ and the PDP at the National level.
That power plant is still pumping 271MW into the National grid and the LASG is still paying for that power plant till today via deductions from monthly allocations.
That sabotaged vision is the reason why the Lagos state doesn't have such power plants and uninterrupted power supply today.
