horlando30:
An Architect is simply an artist with some technical drawing skill just a little bit above a draftsman. A civil engineer dont just draw, they design. A lot of mathematical calculation and physics goes into those designs. So a civil engineer is superior to an architect. For very large construction projects, infact you dont need an architect.
Civil Engineering is not about design, it's about structure and building integrity.
It's only in Nigeria you'll see everyone who can barely read plan call themselves engineers

architecture is purely shmit

any thing an architect can do , a civil engineer can do it and construct it much better. architecture should be scrapped from every uni in the world and banned for life. its only usecase is for aesthetic value nothing else

architecture is le graphic design, graphic design is le obsolete.

these days you see architects designing bloat riddled cabbage .
You exposed yourself as an illiterate. So people that separated Civil Engineering and Architecture into different departments. They're not even in the same School/College to begin with. Omoh! People dull o.

Economy was so good, naira was higher than pounds. Even Gowon to the world that our problem is how to spend the money.

This was the Nigeria that I lived not read on Google
Now you get. When you have money and the only problem you had was how to spend it, then you're clueless. He doesn't know what to do with the monies but countries were building sustainable rail transportation and road networks. They were building smart cities. The 8 Asian tigers were executing long term economic plans, but our own leaders are clueless about what to do and the never do well Gowon shamelessly admitted to this.

We are talking about economy n security, you were talking about power. Those days we donated our 20kobo lunch money to support freedom of SA/Mandela

Those days, you could travel all night to the north n back with being kidnapped
Things don't just happen overnight. Our situation is a result of leadership failure especially from the 70s. Our leaders lack foresight. While we are supposed to be investing in infrastructures and saving for the rainy days, the were busy paying students wife allowance, just in case they want to get married while studying. The people that enjoyed those days are the same people completing the destruction of the country today.
About the North being safer then, well, yes, but the region has always been volatile if you research history well. Riots and killings that claim lots of lives. Terrorists don't just spring up overnight, they laid the bed for it decades ago and here we are today.

Jimmy Cliff, the Jamaican reggae artiste who was very popular in Nigeria in the 1970s and '80s recently died at the age of 81.

Mr Cliff came to Nigeria many times in the 1970s (particularly in 1974 and 1976) and he often said that his 1976 visit was bitter-sweet.

The sweet part was that there were many fans at the airport and they lined the streets from the airport to his hotel.

The bitter part was that a man claimed that he had a deal with Jimmy Cliff (which he claimed was signed in London) that he would bring him to Nigeria, but Jimmy Cliff broke the deal. Jimmy Cliff was detained for three days, but he was released when the case got to court because the accuser had no evidence.

The famous Jamaican journalist, Lindsay Barrett, who lived and worked in Nigeria in the 1970s and '80s was one of the people that actually convinced Jimmy Cliff to come to Nigeria.

Our governors and various representatives are absolutely doing nothing in this regard.
Water works in Nigerian cities and it's meant for average Nigerians? It's unfortunate no State government does that again now. At best, they'll sink a borehole for the neighborhood.

DomPerignon:
Fulani bandits are more dangerous than any terrorist organization operating in Nigeria

While ISWAP/BH have been confined to the NE and IPOB to SE, the scale of operations of these Fulani bandits extends from the entire NW, NC and parts of NE (Taraba) , SS (Delta) , SE (Enugu) and SW (Ibadan, Ondo).

Their scale of operation is unprecedented and it is glaring that they are plotting a total takeover of Nigeria .
Why are you making a distinction between bandits and terrorists? Oga, they're one and the same. We didn't have bandits until we started experiencing terrorist attacks and the kidnapping further south is just the spillover effects.

You’re right — I absolutely understand that being kidnapped is a deeply traumatic experience, and it’s not something anyone should go through.

When I said I see his point, I meant I understand the distinction he was making between attacks on security forces and kidnappings in terms of motive and target.

That doesn’t take away from the severity or the trauma that victims of kidnappings face. Both are serious, and both deserve urgent attention and solutions.
Do you understand that Fulani herders is the euphemism for Boko Haram terrorists? Oga, if you believe those Fulani kidnappers are different from those killing our troops in the North, then you definitely don't know what's going on in this country.

I agree with everything you said, except the 70% part. No institution can exist with that level of looting. We all know there's corruption in the military, but, 70% is practically impossible
Maybe be 70% but the military don't need New York sized military budget to defeat terrorists on bikes carrying AK47.
Our national budget was a little above N3tr in 2009 and just 16 years along the line, a bigger amount is no longer enough just for the military alone?

They really don't know. Most people think Nigeria has enough because of our leaders lavish life style
You can't really blame anyone, can you? Agreed Nigeria is very poor per capita, but our supposed leaders are not supposed to appropriate 70% of the national budget for their own use. Why on earth will a senator be earning 20+ million naira monthly in a country where the minimum wage is 77k? Does that income gap make sense to you? And in case you don't know, A huge chunk of this meager military budget is ending up in the pockets of the few. You'll see army generals who earn lesser than I do monthly buying properties in Maitama. From where do you think they got that money. There's a Colonel who literally owns a whole block just less than half a mile from here and you wonder where this little money is going?
I'm not sure the terrorists they're fighting have this huge funds at their disposal.
I'd rather the government shift attention to hiring contractors to fight the terrorists than give the money to the military. They should focus on what they know how to do best: harassing civilians.
PoliticsRe: Breakdown of Nigeria’s ₦3.10 Trillion Defence Budget (2025) by DeOTR: 3:12pm On Nov 23, 2025
grandstar:
The amount is stingy. A country like Nigeria at war needs at least 3% of its GDP spent on the military.

The alternative may be for the country to try an extremely economic snd efficient.way to achieve results.

Give the military targets, and cash rewards for achieving those targets

1billion for every bandit camp they obliterate for instance. It should be given to the soldiers that carry out the operation. 500k each for the privates. It could be N5m for the generals. I am just dropping ideas.

States could also get involved, provide some form of incentives.

For the Northeast where they are fighting religious islamists, extremely radical incentives can also be used. Dealing with that crowd is hard. These are guys driven by idealogy. Worse, there are plenty of them.

An army high up said up to 120,000 terrorists have been captured since the start of the war. The numbers are insane.

All these are ideas. They will definitely need finetuning.
You're in Nigeria where something as simple as this becomes rocket science. They'll soon turn it the initiative to cash cow and claim to achieve what they didn't, just for the money. Is it not the same army that lies in a way that put Satan to shame? Stop playing.

Used to be the size of the whole national budget in the very recent past. How did we get to the point where some people now see insecurities as a long-term means to get access to national cake? Since our military have proven to be helpless against insurgents, I think it will be deserving to continue wasting scarce resources on fighting a lost cause. The spendings over the years are apparently not justified.
