I may not be old enough to vote then, but I always read the newspapers and watch news. |

I was just thinking out loud. For someone earning 100k salary monthly, staying in 650k-800k house, what's your strategy towards your house rent payment? Knowing that you still have more bills to cater for monthly.
How do you save? What percentage do you save in a month?
With the little Salary been paid, Salary earners, how do you plan towards your current house rent payment?
A colleague was joking telling us, he's considering relocating to the village to start farming and staying in a free family apartment........hmmmmm Earning 100k and living in a 650k apartment? Just tell your company to be paying your salary into your landlord's account. |

mrvitalis: Corruption has never been a problem to us ... It's effect is overblown... Yes it's harmful but not really the main issue
Number one issue is our revenue is too poor for a country of 200 million people making less than 20 billion dollars per year? That's a joke
Why is that? Because we are not productive enough, and why are we not productive enough we lack access to capital
Solution Borrow , give to your best brains in areas we have comparative advantage in, they grow pay more tax, employ more people that pay more tad, they repay the loans we repay our debtors
This hopefully can kick start the economic growth
This is what Obi is saying... I wonder why it's difficult for you all to understand Corruption is a major problem. If you factor in the amount of money that have been stolen and mismanaged over the years, you'll understand why we are where we are now. It's one thing to earn well, it's another thing to utilize it judiciously. There was a time in this country when we had more than enough to go round, but instead of investing the excess on something meaningful, our leaders were busy "giving wife allowances to students, just in case they're married". |

phantom: Exactly! That's why I was insistent on the definition of "infrastructure ".
Infrastructure is not only physical things like roads and bridges I don't know why most people erroneously think infrastructure is just road and bridges. I'm surprised he mentioned investments in education while trying to explain why infrastructural development is the most important thing. |

mrvitalis: No nation can get great without infrastructure but borrowing to build infrastructure is foolishness
Every family needs a family car or home but borrowing to buy them is foolishness Think of it like this: A young man in his late teens had a chance to build houses, buy cars, and make other meaningful investments, but choose to spend that on olosho, expensive wears and exotic drinks. He's 64 years old now with many mouths to feed and lots of responsibilities, and now trying to borrow to achieve what he could have achieved when he was single. That's our story. We had our chances, but we blew it. As if that's not enough, we've still not learned anything from our past . Even the little we're still making (it's little compared to our size), some few individuals are still living large on it. The only thing that breaks my heart is: why would any public servant be earning more than 2 million naira monthly (all allowances inclusive)? This is why I believe we need a reset to salvage the situation. Take away the corruption and wastages, this government is doing the right thing. I'm currently in Rwanda. Things are generally more expensive, they pay more taxes and they're largely consumer nations, but but their government is doing the right thing. |

mrvitalis: Every successful economy started with infrastructure? That's a big lie
Lets take a look at China they started by educating their people, funding local businesses before building infrastructure
You don't grow an economy by using borrowed money to build infrastructure
In fact let's take two village
Village A
Gets 20 billion... Use it to build all the roads, build school, hospitals and markets
Village B
Gets 20 billion, doesn't do any infrastructure projects..but . Support it's people to
Build a cassava processing plants Pall oil processing plants Rice mills Shoe factory And many other businesses
After 10 years which village would be better off answer sincerely Just wanted to point out that investment in education is a capital intensive infrastructure. Our government maybe be investing in the wrong infrastructural development, no nation can be great without it. |

Basicend: So if Libya can subsidize to make life better for it's citizens, what is the excuse of our useless govt? I responded to the buying fuel from Libya when we know it's heavily subsidize. When you become the President, you can decide to give fuel for free. Things to keep in mind: 1. Libya is a nation of just 7 million people earning as much (if not more) as Nigeria of 200million people in oil revenue. 2. You guys can't keep breeding like rats without commensurate increase in revenue and expect the quality of life to improve. If you have a family of 8 and earning 500k, trying to do same thing a family of 3 who earns same income, does will put you in serious debts. It's that simple. 3. My only problem with our government is wasteful spending and embezzlement. All of you in that country are self-serving hypocrites who would do worse than people they criticize if given the opportunity. We Nigerians have high tendencies to abuse privileges, no matter how little it is. From cleaners, to gatemen, from pump attendants to pos operators, from market women to people working in the office. These people would frustrate you with the little edge they have over you at any given opportunity, but somehow we expect people we elected into higher offices to act differently? Sorry, it's not possible for bad people to have good government. Same thing is true for good people. They can't have bad people governing them. We are the reflection of our leaders. I can bet everything I have that you won't revert to the old pump if given the opportunity today, so look in the mirror when calling your leaders useless. |

N3TRAL: Let’s be honest, if we adhere to the principle that non-performance should lead to removal, the people of Edo made a sound decision. They chose to vote out the PDP, which fell short on its campaign promises.
Ask any random person from Edo State, and they’ll likely tell you that Adams Oshiomole of the APC stands as the best-performing governor in the state's history.
While I personally disdain the mediocrity of the newly elected governor, I can understand the rationale behind Edo’s electoral decision. You already know the newly elected governor is a mediocre, even before taking the oath of office? What is mediocrity? |
