IfnobeGod20: No one doesn't want to pay tax but everyone want to see what they are using their money for. You cannot be squeezing people to pay tax but you the collector is living larger than life. Preaching one thing and doing another thing. It makes no sense and that is why people are sceptical of paying tax because they are not seeing the benefits. When they are seeing the benefits, citizens will joyfully embrace paying of tax without compulsion, as done in advanced societies. You can only demand accountability when you've done your part. |

aswani: I am not talking about cross town masquerades, the poster talked about masquerades from other towns is why I brought up Tapa/Ẹgba Igunnuko.
I am also not comparing Igunnuko to anything, just explaining Tapa are a proud people that are originally from a different place and have now become what they are in Yorubaland. The beauty of peaceful integration.
I knew people ages ago who could identify Tapa people just by their mannerisms, I doubt that this generation and the immediate previous one can.
I am almost certain I have seen Ndigbo masquerades in Lagos before, this was a long time ago though and well before Obidients started stirring the pot.
Whilst the decision to not bring the masquerade over at this point in time is a sensible one, it is my hope that things change in the future. I doubt anything will change if what we've seen daily is anything to go by, not when Igbo people continue to feed their children with anti-Yoruba sentiments. |

aswani: Not strictly true for your first paragraph, every other thing is spot on though.
Igunnuko's are a Tàpá/Egba thing. Wherever their followers settle en-masse in other Yoruba places, they have Igunnuko shrines and they carry out their parade (or whatever they are called) within that locality.
I also believe that in the event of a potential clash with local masquerade parade days, the hosts get precedence.
Folks, let's call this situation what it is, Ndi Yoruba are flexing their muscles as a fallout from a lot of (needless) Ndigbo goading since the last elections.
That's OK too, Oga, what the guy said is entirely true. In my hometown, one part celebrate Oro, while the other part use masquerade during their annual festival. The Masquerade doesn't cross to the other side of Town and normal activities goes on, on the other side while the Oro do their thing. And you are comparing Igunu to this Ajofia? Seriously? I mean, we've had centuries of relationship with the Nupe people and there have been cultural exchanges between the two tribes. Same thing can't be said about the igbos |

If this Muslim guy was to oppose any other Western stupidity most of you would attack him with insults and curses… but now that his opposition goes with your personal principle, you’re supporting him! I hope you guys now see why Muslims are always weary of anything western? Oga, the Bible condemns sodomy and God wiped out two big cities because of this, so this is not anything to do with Islam. The last time I checked, the only requirement to be a Christian is follow the commandments of God and faith of Jesus. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian. They're two different things. Besides, sodomy is very in Islamic world, it's not just openly. For instance, long before the craze about this LGBT madness, the Muslim dominant northern Nigeria is very notorious for this act, so tone down your hypocrisy. |

Believeintruth: See definitely the need to look inward, but the ROI takes time and we know this. The thing is there is no one size fits all approach in a multi ethnic and multi cultural society, there has to be some deliberation on the bill first. I think this bill is a good step in the right direction. It's a wake up call for the so-called Governors to sit up. It's not in their job description to just sit idle while the FG spoon feed them at the end of the month and always point their citizens to the FG when things are not going well. Niger State for instance has the potential to generate $2 billion annual on agriculture alone. Let them harness that. Nasarawa is literally sitting on a bed of various solid minerals and we're here mentioning the State and poverty in the same sentence. Anything that'll divert our attention away from oil revenue and force us to tap our unutilized potentials is a welcome development. No need for more time or any delay, because given enough time, nothing is achieved. |

seguntijan: LET'S SET RECORDS STRAIGHT
Out of the total of 360 House of Reps members, the entire South has 169, while the North has 191. Here is the breakdown:
South East Imo 10 Reps Abia 8 Reps Ebonyi 6 Reps Anambra 11 Reps Enugu 8 Reps Total= 43.
South South Akwa Ibom 10 Reps Bayelsa 5 Reps Cross River 8 Reps Delta 10 Reps Edo 9 Reps Rivers 13 Reps Total= 55 Reps.
SOUTHEAST & SOUTHSOUTH GRAND TOTAL =98 only.
South West Ekiti 6 Reps Lagos 24 Reps Ogun 9 Reps Ondo 9 Reps Oyo 14 Reps Osun 9 Reps Total = 71 Reps.
North West Kano 24 Reps Kaduna 16 Reps Jigawa 11 Reps Katsina 15 reps Kebbi 8 Reps Sokoto 11 Reps Zamfara 7 Reps Total = 92 Reps.
North East Adamawa 8 Reps Bauchi 12 Reps Borno 10 reps Gombe 6 Reps Taraba 6 Reps Yobe 6 Reps Total = 48 Reps.
North Central Benue 11 Reps Kogi 9 Reps Kwara 6 Reps Nassarawa 5 Reps Plateau 8 Reps Niger 10 Reps Total = 49 Reps.
FCT 2 Reps.
GRAND TOTAL OF THE NORTH =191 The question is, how dare you upstage this people in a vote? Even if Southeast, South-south and Southwest joined together cannot upstage the North.
More facts coming...
INJUSTICE OF OIL ALLOCATION IN NIGERIA (1)
North Central receives 20%; CONTRIBUTES 0.00%. North East receives 16%; CONTRIBUTES 0.00%. North West receives 21%; CONTRIBUTES 0.00%. Every month, the 19 Northern states receive a minimum of 57% of 100% of oil revenue to which they CONTRIBUTE 0.00%.
South West receives 16%; CONTRIBUTES 3.97%.
South East receives 11.00%; CONTRIBUTES 25.07%.
South South receives 15.00%; CONTRIBUTES 70.64%.
More facts... LGAs in NIGERIA: Nigeria has 774 LGAs. The North has 19 states, and the 19 states have 419 LGAs.
The South has 17 states, and the 17 states have 357 LGAs.
Working with the data from the office of the Accountant General as published by the Ministry of Finance (2013 April), the 357 LGAs of the 17 southern states receive 45.1% of what they contribute is 100%.
The 419 LGAs of the 19 Northern states receive 54.9% of what they contribute is 0.00%. So those hoping for a hopeless hope for restructuring should wake up. The north will Never allow restructuring because they know that they can't survive in a level playing ground. Let me stop here for now .....alot on my mind.
Now you see that the north is seriously draining and stifling the development of the south?
One Nigeria is the biggest fraud ever.
What the people of Nigeria need is a referendum to end this evil contraption.
We CAN NOT be silent about it. He that is silent in the days of the adversity of the oppressed, is more guilty and has taken the side of the oppressor. Did you see the part where Kogi and Benue already supports the bill? I know states like Kwara will also support it, same as Plateau, so you might need to reassess your definition of North |

Believeintruth: You cannot even afford 100k talk more of 300k stop deceiving yourself. The truth is that BAT aspect should have been thought out carefully. You want to charge VAT in areas where it is generated, very good but you removed VAT on agricultural commodities. So if food is taken from the north to be used as feedstock in Agro allied industries in the south. The North gets no VAT, but the south earns VAT on the finished goods. There really is no equity in that. Why is the North not processing their produce into feedstock or adding values in a way that'll enable generations of VAT? This is the time look inward. |

Jesus first disciples and founders of the church were all Jews and they were bent in converting the world for a Jewish man, Jesus. 3. Jesus Christ the Lord of Muhammad and allah, forgave them even before he was crucified, so who are you to condemn them?!. Kukutente23: You are quick to insult without an ounce of understanding. VAT is paid for the "value" you consume not produce. If you produce 100 crates of coke in Lagos and no one buys it from you hence it is lying in your store, you do not pay a kobo as VAT on it. But when you have a distributor in Zamfara who calls you and asks for 50 crates of the coke, at the end of the month, you calculate 7.5% of the cost of the 50 crates of coke and pay it to Zamfara through the FG. Do you get it now you uncouth, mannerless dingbat? Stop explaining what you don't understand. VAT is paid on a processed goods, yes or no? |
Politics › Re: Seriake Dickson Supports Tinubu's Tax Reform Bills by DeOTR: 10:13am On Dec 03, 2024 |
Kukutente23: A lot of people are mixing things up by taking production for consumption. VAT is a consumption tax not production. The question of parasites as y'all put it does not arise. VAT is actually a tax for the parasites Ordinarily if the computation is done correctly, states with higher population should have more consumption. So that's why I still don't understand why the north is against that aspect of the bill giving their large population at least on paper except they mean their population is audio. But be that as it may, we need to hear all sides and FIRS or NBS should release the present consumption statistics for VATable goods so we can have a better view of the issues and how to go about them. Value Added Tax and you in your "weedsdom" thinks production is not involved? I mean, how do you even add value without a form of production? You are a bum! |

TheRealestGuy: From the excerpts of the bill I've seen, only Lagos, FCT, Rivers and Ogun state will benefit from it due to Lagos being former capital and having the only fully functional seaport in Nigeria; Ogun state due to its proximity to Lagos, FCT being the current capital and Rivers due to the Onne port and oil companies presence.
Saying states will get 50% of the VAT they accrue will only throw most of the other states into bankruptcy in a few years.
It will be rather interesting to see how this bill drama unfolds. Every state in Nigeria is blessed enough to be the new Lagos. Let their Governors get to work. Being a governor of a state is not tea party. |
