pocohantas: See the way he is saying have a girl child. Some will tell you to born girl first, so she can help you with the others. Yesterday I had to ask my dad, do you people even ask if I need support too? Abi I no be human being?
The same daughters they think are inferior to boys should be caregivers __unpaid caregivers. After we are done looking after kids, we look after our parents, then wait for our husbands to get old too and look after him. All this for them to turn angry tigers at the mention of alimony. Mtcheeew. You don't vex . One of my cousins. A highly patriarchal man and mama's boy did this. Mum came to stay with them when sick and made their house hell on earth. Her first daughter who happens to be in the same city has to come and bundle her to her house. No pim. She behaved herself. At a point this guy got his senses back and after his cross posting, he bought a house for his family in uk and went back alone. That my aunt was terror. Worst than mama G. Even her children dey fear her. She wanted to come for my first child omugwo as my mama no dey, I said aunty, no, thank you. I will manage Who knows if this woman here na mama G type |

InvertedHammer: / At old age, you can only count on your daughter(s) for care.
If capable, a son may only provide financial assistance.
/ Its even a prayer in my place. Parents want to stay with their daughters more. There are things the daughters can do and get free but daughter inlaw dare not. Brother should provide financial support with his wife. If he love the mum so much hire a help specifically for the mum to help the daughter. She will appreciate it. As if to say he will enter kitchen and cook for his mum or clean her up. Still fall on someone's daughter. |

Kobojunkieee: Marriage has always been an optional investment for both males and females. That you have not realized it at this point in your existence is only a show of your level of maturity and nothing else.
2. Divorce has always been everywhere from the get-go. In 1980, for instance, divorce rates in Plateau State were recorded at about 80%. So, I am not certain why you are of the delusion that divorce is suddenly everywhere only now. The truth that is very hard for millions of Nigerians to swallow |

pocohantas: Many daughters are not jobless. Definitely not in 2025. We are not on earth to keep tending to everyone. From kids to our parents and now in-laws. It is actually exhausting and leads to a range of emotions in middle-aged women. Men should learn to be caregivers. It is not beneath them. I work and still look out for my parents. I fail to see one reason a man cannot do it too. Love the ladies of today. What happened to their mothers na big lesson. No one is gonna put up with that anymore. When my father in law came to my house reluctantly, he came with his personal assistant. Guy was helping in the house too. I just put to bed. Hubby that I see only in the evening. I maximised it to fullest and ended up with good deal . He do not have a daughter so I'm the only woman in the family. I learnt a lot from those around me. Ain't nobody making a slave out of me. |

Acidosis: The permission of whoever will take care of your mother needs to be sought. If you have never taken care of an elderly man or woman, feeding them, making them their favourite meals, engaging them in small talks, or even changing diapers, and so on, you should calm down and learn. Even if you are going to employ a maid and pay them, you still need to be patient; otherwise, you may come home one day and find your parent halfway gone to the world beyond. No be by gra gra or cho cho cho.
Imagine someone who spends almost his entire day in the office raising shoulders 😂 The first step to prove this so called love for your mother would be to resign and spend at least 80% of your time with them. Anybody with an extra room and bed can invite whoever. Lol. It is insanity to think and demand that another person do your job for you because you married them with yam, coconut, and a keg of palm wine. Acid, na man wey get wisdom you be The reason our granny( not related but we call her granny cos she is more like a family to us) is with her daughter here than her son in Nigeria cos her daughter will take care of her more than her daughter in law. She sulks and sulks, her daughter will look at her and just laugh. Can a daughter inlaw do that. |

Kukutente23: Is it compulsory for a man to pay bride price before marriage Always wanting to eat their cake and have it Some cultures do not pay bride price like the English. And they still take up the husbands name Bride price in my place is not up to 100 bucks. In India, the ladies pay groom price yet take up the husbands name. Do not rush to comment next time. It will lead to unnecessary exposure. |
Politics › Re: Photos Of Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, Boko Haram Founder’s Son Arrested In Chad by descarado: 12:13pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
Dogalmighty17: Fun or not so fun fact. Boko Haram as we know it today wouldn't have escalated to this point if the Nigerian police while trying to protect the names of the sponsors of Boko Haram from being revealed, hadn't killed him. The Nigerian army arrested Yusuf and handed him over to the Nigerian police in handcuffs. Less than 6 hours later, Yusuf was dead. The police claimed that he was killed while exchanging fire with them. How does someone arrested and cuffed exchange gun fire?
The remaining members of the Boko Haram sect then went underground and regrouped in Sambisa. They then started a brutal campaign targeting banks to raise funds. They then used these funds to buy arms which they used against policemen exclusively. Boko Haram was only in targeting policemen initially. That was until politicians then weaponise them against Jonathan. You know nothing about how boko boy became strong except through what the lagos ibadan papers told you. Were you in maidugri? Boko haram was conquered but ali body sheriff hired them for hatchet jobs during governorship campaign while promising to settle them after he worn. He won and turned his back on them. The guns they initially used where what they were given during campaign. Shettima took over and used them too but didnt fulfil his promises. (All those who used bokoharam have been at the corridor of power. All of them. That was their reward) Boko boys fought politicians and the elite in maidugri. They killed shehu' brother. Politicians ran to abuja. Boko boys followed them to abuja. They have tested money and weapon. They extended to other nearby states. Those states do not want problem so they agreed to pay them a certain amount monthly. More money, more recruitment and more power. Then they were attacking Christians and northern Muslims were happy. You have any problem with a muslim, they will call bokoharam on you. They hold so much power and were brazen. Families boasted they have bokoharam as members of their families. Northern politicians that do not want Jonathan used them to remove Jonathan from power. More money and power. As at then it has gone international. Some countries love conflicts so as to sell weapons. Here we are. |

Klass99: Aunty Dolly, you said on the other thread that you did not want to divorce your husband, you only wanted a separation in the hopes that he will see the light and begin to add value to you and the children.
I'm thinking.......if he is not adding value to any of you now that you live with him in the same house, will he actually do it when you rent a house and move out? The man may decide to severely pepper you sef, by not giving you a single kobo to feed the children.
Some men love to play that game as a way of punishing women who left with the kids for whatever reasons. In a bid to hurt you they ignore the children's needs, hurting them as well, it's a vicious vindictive streak I am yet to understand. Think the matter well o.
I think what you need is a reliable and steady income source to take care of you and your kids (in or out of that marriage) If someone gave you money to rent a house now, how will next year's rent be paid? I wish you good success in whatever decision you take. Genesis of her problem. The moment she start earning money, no matter how small, the man will start seeing her differently and she will have more power of negotiation. |

GboyegaD: The one incident that happened to me was when a classmate decided to help me write an exam. It was a Friday, and I left school after closing hours (1:00pm). He stopped by my house around 4:30pm to tell me he wrote my exam on my behalf. I told him I will be reporting to the teacher on Monday (my first mistake). I got to school on Monday, and he had informed everyone. I was told I am an ingrate that instead of appreciating his help, I want to report him. The pressure was so much I had to let go. Before noon, we were sent for by the teacher and I knew I was done for. The funny thing is that they blamed me, and he wasn't beaten because his mom used to be a teacher in the school. I took the beating for the both of us. Told my elder brother when I got home and he told me if only I had listened to him that I should report the case, I would have been vindicated. I disliked most of the teachers for taking sides without hearing my side. I was given zero (0) for the term and eventually did not fail the subject. I dropped the subject in SS2 because I felt the level of hypocrisy was something I couldn't deal with. Funny enough, one day, the mother told me she doesn't want me to be friends with her son again and I stopped visiting their house. Ouch. That must have hurt deeply. Favouritism didn't start today |

Just because i am owing him one year house rent and i promised to move out this December
He threatened to show me shege, although i don't have evidence but i am 100% sure he is the one
No other person can do it.
Pls nairalanders i want to take this matter up legally against my Landlord.
How do i go about it? Why will you owe him? That's wickedness. You want to take matter legally while you are owing 12 months rent. Landlords have suffered in Nigeria. And you want to move out without paying. Tomorrow, he will be shouting politicians this and that. |

casualobserver: we can also see how eradication of the traditional roles of men has done to the societies in the west and the rise in gay men, single mothers etc in Nigeria. The west is still ruling over you. You are nothing without them. The air you breath is owned by them. Ga' y full northern Nigeria. Its not hidden. You get society? Your society is filled with evil men. Men so dark in heart that when they cross a bridge, they will break it instead of allowing others to pass. Nigeria today is a dysfunctional society. Single motherhood is better than men who fathers other men's chikd in nigeria and pretend they are innocent. That's why when they travel, they end up in jail cos they think it's biz as usual. |

cococandy: Little do they real alpha male are soft and gentle towards their children Do they read novels and know there real meaning of alpha males? Those they call simps are actually the alpha males. They just heard that from some los'sers and ran with it. Novelists who coined the word alpha males will be rolling their eyes. Alpha males started appearing in shape shifters novels, then real humans. Animals like big wild cats, bear etc are depicted alpha males cos they can lay down their lives for their women and curbs. They are prote tors and providers. Their women are so proud of them and are envied by others. But, you see what these people are doing, it's ignorance, cowardly and selfishness. It is always backfiring cos their women learn from them and become the champion at playing the game like this woman, if the story is true. |

You said men are not supposed to be nurturing. In the same paragraph, you’re lamenting how your kids will abandon you in old age. You have no one but yourself to blame for that.
Be “masculine” all you want in exchange for a lonely old age. Your choice.
But I’ll have you know that real masculine men dote on and nurture their children as well. And in exchange, they don’t have to worry about being abandoned in old age. Na ndi alpha male association, Nigerian branch. |

modern women want to abandon their roles eat their cake and have it, no wonder society is falling apart! Tell that to the court. This is not Nigeria.parenting is 50/50. We can see how a man's security and financial roles have shaped Nigeria. Pathetic |
