CrimeBoko Haram Kills 44 In Borno.. by DesChyko1(op): 3:12am On Aug 24, 2013
At least 44 persons were reportedly killed in a village near Baga Village of Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, emergency health workers said.
A news story monitored on online news agency, Premium Times, said that Baga was the scene of an April attack that led to the death of about 200 people, mostly civilians, with many of them believed to have been killed when soldiers allegedly set hundreds of houses on fire in retaliation at the killing of soldiers by suspected Boko Haram members.
An official of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said officials of the agency counted at least 44 corpses in Tuesday's attack by suspected members of the Boko Haram.
Residents told aide workers who visited the troubled area that about 50 armed menstormed their village and embarked on a killing spree using knives.
"Those who did not die were left with their eyes gorged out with knives, and several others seriously injured," said the NEMA official, who doesn't want to be quoted as he was not authorized to speak to the press yet.
"Many people were displaced because the Boko Haram set their houses ablaze, though we cannot say how many. We are going to Baga village on Saturday to set up camps for the displaced," the official added.
"As I am speaking to you now, Red Cross and the Medicine Sans Frontier officials are attending to the injured victims. The village has been deserted and the people are now taking refuge at the Baga central primary school."
Journalists have been unable to confirm the incident since Wednesday due to lack of communication networks, which has been grounded in the state in the last three months.
The spokesman of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Sagir Musa, could also not be contacted.
The Media Coordinator of the Multi National Joint Task Force, MNJTF, in Baga, Haruna Sani, told journalists in response to an email sent to him seeking confirmation of the incident that he had no knowledge of the attack, as he was away from his base.
"I am right now in Adamawa State for an assignment and due to the network problem, I have difficulty in reaching my Headquarters. I suggest you find out from Defense Headquarters, may be they are in the picture of the incidence. Thanks for your effort," he said.
Science/TechnologyMark Zuckerberg's Hacker Rewarded!! by DesChyko1(op): 2:50am On Aug 24, 2013
A man who hacked into Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook page to expose a software bug is getting donations from hackers around the world after the company declined to pay him under a program that normally rewards people who report flaws.
Khalil Shreateh discovered and reported the flaw but was initially dismissed by the company's security team. He then posted a message on the billionaire's wall to prove the bug's existence.
Now, Marc Maiffret, chief technology officer of cybersecurity firm BeyondTrust, is trying tomobilize fellow hackers to raise a $10,000 reward for Shreateh after Facebook refused to compensate him.
Maiffret, a high school dropout and self-taught hacker, said today he has raised about $9000 so far, including the $2000 he initially contributed.
He and other hackers said Facebook unfairly denied Shreateh, a Palestinian, a payment under its "Bug Bounty" program. It doles out at least $500 to individuals who bring software bugs to the company's attention.
"He is sitting there in Palestine doing this research on a five-year-old laptop that looks like it is half broken," Maiffret said. "It's something that might help him out in a big way."
Shreateh uncovered the flaw on the company's website that allows members to post messages on the wall of any other user, including Zuckerberg's. He tried to submit thebug for review but the website's security team did not accept his report.
He then posted a message to Zuckerberg himself on the chief executive officer's private account, saying he was having trouble getting his team's attention.
"Sorry for breaking your privacy," Shreateh said in the post.
The bug was quickly fixed and Facebook issued an apology yesterday for having been"too hasty and dismissive" with Shreateh's report. But it has not paid him a bounty.
"We will not change our practice of refusing to pay rewards to researchers who have tested vulnerabilities against real users," ChiefSecurity Officer Joe Sullivan said in a blogpost.
He said Facebook has paid out more than $1 million under that program to researchers who followed its rules.

Jokes EtcRe: Economic Models Explained With Cows by DesChyko1(m): 2:26am On Aug 24, 2013
Nigerian Capitalism
The first government lets you keep two cows only if you vote them in.
The second government gives you two more cows during campaign and ban cow-ownership when in power.
The third government allows you to own two cows only if you buy from them, one cow at the price of two. Half cow is better than none
Jokes EtcNigerian Churches At WAR!! by DesChyko1(op): 2:18am On Aug 24, 2013
With all these churches trying their best to be heard tonight, how can someone even 'sleep' tonight?? Churches like Catholic and Anglican with their huge population are baying from afar.. RCCG, Winners, Deeper Life and co have sworn not to be outdone, because it seems they have enough microphones to go round the congregation and are contributing their magnified noises to the hub-bub. Even tiny churches like 'Christ For All' ministries, Blow the trumpet evangelical mission and their likes are doing their best with their mini but militant population. The worst part(-or is it best) is that Celestial Churches and their Aladura brothers have started Night Vigils too with their 'funny sounding drums'.. And this describes a typical Friday night in a typical Lagos town!

Christianity EtcRe: In What Way Did Catholic Make And Preserved The Bible? by DesChyko1(m): 12:32pm On Aug 23, 2013
JMAN05: Most at times i here catholics make that comment. they even claim to be the first church.

I want my catholic friends to explain this claim and why they think its true.

Waiting....
Trouble is no hobby my friend. The truest faith is your conscience. It tells you what to believe and can never lead you sideways. Instead of trying to debate on what was instituted long before your great-grandfather's ancestors touched down, focus your time on knowing your true identity and when your conscience speaks to you.. Blind faith, they say, is an enemy of true knowledge..

You speak my mind, sire. I feel the moderators have little idea about how to discern which topics should grace the frontpage. Although, we must admit fewer Nigerians are really interested in the more serious affairs aside gists and gossips. In a way, Nairaland is serving the majority demands and in doing so, losing their discipline. I feel there should be a major reform here. People, myself included, are losing the basic essence of information, because in truth, it's becoming a whirlpool centred on celebrities.
