back2sender: Big Eguns I need your help on this n others with a flair for IT. What could be wrong with my laptop battery? Can I still remedy it? It's showing plugged but with a red X Sign on the battery icon. Once I take off the power source, the battery begins to blink yellow and after sometime it shuts down. I just bought it of recent in computer village. Thanks Man Your battery is no longer good, I always advice people don't and emphasis lie on don't plug in your battery with your Laptop when your using the mains. i.e Remove your Laptop battery when your are you using the mains because the charging and discharging it does makes the battery goes bad after some time, you will start noticing when the power start to decrease with time. Except when you want to charge insert charge to 100% then remove |

@Daboomb, this is where we don't think things through sometimes, What about a colletive solar farm for a group of individauls or a solar array project for a block of Flats. High in acqusition but cheap on the long run. was even in Naija back in a while was invited to a discussion in Gbagada where some Landlord's were talking of a solar array farm for them , how feasible and at what cost, we have about 12hrs sunlight in Naija why not make use of it. The today Technological advancement is there to be made use of not also ohing and haing how the oyinbo people do it. I agree due to its acqusition high cost it may seem daunting but if you calculate how much you will save in 20yrs and also not contributing to the burden of the Enviroment it is a win, win situation.(considering the Epilectic PHCN power supply in Nigeria now) Batteries are the only weak point in a solar setup but with the high rate of Technological advancement, It is also been conquered, Lifepo4 for, example the Tesla used batteries to name a few. with depth of discharge DoD up to 90% and nothing do the battery! still going on strong with 10years warranty |

desiji: Inverters comes in either as one phase or 3 phase in depends on the capacity and how high ur KW is. so there is 1 and there phase sunnyboy Solar is a totally different ball game, a phase can only be allowed for ur pumping machine only another for the A/C in that when the battery reaches a point it switches off that phase that the battery don't get overdischarged capish |

FastShipping: I was in discussion with a nairaland tech few months ago. He was able to tell me the truth about these gadgets available in Nigeria. The commonly Chinese available gadgets for solar system in Nigeria are mainly from China and don't last long. They cost a lot and warranty on them not more than few months to a year. So he advised I source for my gadgets from the US and gave me names and list of dependable gadgets to buy from the US. Oh boy . The gadgets in the US cost thrice the readily available Chinese gadgets in Nigeria. We were looking at 4-5kva capacity for my consumption. 8 Batteries alone to cost me $4000 at $499.99 each. Charger, inverter, panels etc running into another $4000.
There is this gentleman in property section who is based in Germany that gave me a link for European gadgets as well. The European package suitable for my consumption that I saw online was in the region of 8000 euro.
$8000 or 8000 euro no be beans o. I can't afford to spend that on a house I only want to spend few weeks there in a year. Hello the gentleman is still here, but you are definetely sure of what you are buying and as you know in Europe Solar is gaining grounds so rapidly that if you are Lucky you might cut a deal. i am definetely going Solar no two ways about it the first time buying is really very high but the advantages outweigh the initial cost, and the Batteries i am going for are the Lifepo4 types with DoD till 90% discharge and the battery is still good to go with a 10year warranty |

skimanski: Baba Eguns, As much as I blame the Govt for the things that happen. even we still should share the part of the Blame. because i remember when people were saying how can someone charge over 600k for plastering a duplex here on this forum. We argued the issue as if the guys that charged it had committed a crime. If you do a calculation of 25dollars for a Mason here, then you will be shocked you are looking at over N1.5m for that Job.
Now this is it, even if we see a Julius berger kind of artisan here in Nigeria, we would still insist he charges at the least not too far off from what the normal guys are charging. Most time we want him to charge same with the normal guys. I remember the guys that had that argument then on this forum most likely live overseas. We have all agreed their is no basis for comparism so lets leave that it is in our Nigerian DNA to also go for a Bargain, maybe it is because of our demographical disadvantage that made us so, but i don't see anything wrong about it, If a can get an artisan to give me better value for my money why shouldn't i try, it is my perogative to get more for little. |

allCopacetic: At $25 ( approx N9000) per day, I'm sure you can get julius berger level artisans in Nigeria. Afterall the Julius berger works aren't done by expatriates they're done by our local artisans with the requisite training.
Again, any material that isn't manufactured in The US or North America is more likely to be cheaper in Nigeria than it is in the US. The problem will be finding it. I wouldn't have contributed if not that i am living in both worlds, i.e Europe and Africa, there is absolutely no basis for comparism in that you have to look at both at all different levels, per capita income of both lands, value of service, tax returns service if i own my own home Govt subsidies of buying my own home. insurance of the any artisan working for me i.e if a mistake is made i won't be the one carrying the ball. The Nigerian factor ist that any thing planned is liable to change in the next five minutes, different quotes from Artisan with a wide variable leaving the client with the issue of sieving between the chaff and the seed. there is absolutely no basis of caoparism |

Hi @all does anybody has a good Naija website for doors i am now doing doors hunting and doing a comparism between the doors here and in Naija. Skimanski doors would have fitted perfectly into my concept but they are somewhat too pricey for me but if he is willing to negotiate i can call him up on that. |

One of my Big reason for wanting to go offgrid is also with the ability to use high end equipments so how do you cope with the heat back at home if i can't at least run 2 A/C for a minimum of 6hrs it is a no no so that is why i am sciencing the shit out of my system (excuse the language) |

oyb: I have two or more lg inverter acs. They have a low starting current, but they still consume power. My inverter batteries are on their last legs, and I doubt the inverter will run 30 minutes with one.
The users best suited to inverters are those with spartan lifestyles. That estate is for nigerian rich, who are energy hogs. You are basically using an inverter system without solar panels so your inverters are usually charged with PHCN or ur Generator and i guess you are not using any charge controller in ur setup so how can you regulate how much you are taking from ur batteries. to be really effective you have to pay attention to details which is very difficult and needs a lot of calculations |

About batteries if they are not drained too deep it could last more than 5 to 7years |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by desiji: 7:43am On Jul 17, 2017 |
oyb: If you can guarantee the end users will not use the acs then your system is sustainable.
The bane of any inverter powered system is high current loads like acs, kettles, irons and to a lesser extent fridges and freezers. Led luminaires, and electronics can run on a system for extended periods
The other issue is the batteries which must be replaced every two years or so. It is a very bad issue in Nigeria as every Tom dick and Harry (even the big names) are selling batteries of dubious quality. A used battery is often in the exact same physical condition as a new battery. Others have packaged 100 ah batteries as 200ah batteries.
I have seen working systems involving outback inverters and batteries, but while the work was fantastic the cost was prohibitive. I do not know if this was the reality or the Nigerian I must hammer 1000% return on investment immediately. If you really watch the Video to the end you will get, where he said they went for the best Electronics in the market i.e the A/C are also inverter A/C which dosen't need a high percentage of starting current and runs at 30% lesser current than the normal A/C which are being sold and if some people could remember, i have always being an advocate of buying the A++ Electronics which are more current friendly and dosen't too much power. Where i am at there is a revolution going now with the highest grade of going green from The tiniest Electronics to the high ends one. if like i said we keep on following the status quo will we never get anything done. we that know better should be the one's Leading and let other follow. I know for sure that if the people see and know how viable this system are they will quickly join but you have a point of this get rich quick method of the sellers selling inferior and not qualitive things to people thereby making a mockery of what could have been a movement. |

my 2 cents:- if we still keep on voting on tribal & ethnic lines rather than fixing a round peg in a round hole we will not reach anywhere. The place where i am at you are only employed or given task only on what you can bring on the table, no sentiments or he his a landsman of mine , can you imagine the company i am working for i am the only blackman there and my opinion ist respected because i have proved to them i can deliver. if we eventually remove tribal bigotry from all our dealing and forget all this get rich or die trying attitude of ours. i think we will be on the right path |

mavverick: Very inspiring stuff Excuse my ignorance, is it true that these batteries degrade over time if not used frequently ? If one was to import his own stuff, what would you advice the person to buy ? Lastly, I know you have written about this before, if one has NEPA & Solar, does one need like 2 plug sockets (1 for nepa 1 for solar or same sockets in the house can be used for both Solar & NEPA, similar to when using a gen ?)
Thanks @ amverick if you have a good Electrician ur Switching Board takes care of that you don't need 2 Sockets Batteries do Degrade but if used intellingently last your Years |
