WILLuKPquiet: I really wish you, as a christian, understand the new covenant upon which we now operate. If God killed today like he did in the past, you wouldn't be here. Bad people die, just like good people die too. If the pastor dies today, would you agree with a person that comes out to say he prayed to God to judge the pastor and he died, or would you call it mere coincidence? |

Grandmeister: You're missing my point. There are three theories/hypothesis accounting the formation of the universe, and while they are not all foolproof, scientists continuously strive to unravel the mysteries behind it all. My point is that there's science to the creation of the universe and there's a primary engineer - God. If scientists ever find an infallible theory supporting the creation of the universe, it wouldn't be disproving the existence of a God but rather it would only show how it all happened. |
Science/Technology / Re: 240-Million-Year-Old Sea Monster Unearthed In China, Has Giant Lizard In Belly by destinable(m): 8:22am On Aug 22, 2020 |
Grandmeister: There's no account of how exactly God created the heaven and earth. We were only made to believe God pronounced things into existence. What if the scientists are not entirely wrong? What if indeed the world was created according to the Big Bang Theory but with God as the engineer. Not all scientists are atheists. Personally, I do not believe the world was created in 7 calendar days. I believe the creation took possibly billions of our calendar years. The problem we do have as Christians and scientists is trying to read literal meaning into everything in the bible. |

Pelecius: Applications of half-life is not limited to Carbon-14 for dating techniques. There are other stable isotopes that are utilized for half-life. No, the question about fossil fuels is enough reason for you to know that organisms have roamed this earth millions of years ago because it takes millions of years for the formation of petroleum (I hope you know how petroleum forms). There are so many evidences today that prove the existence of organisms millions of years ago, even without radiometric dating. Dating techniques are not entirely foolproof, hence the margin of error estimation, but to fault it entirely without sufficient research data is hypocritical because we believe far more illogical things in our various religions. |

Grandmeister: Going by your logic, would I be wrong to say most accounts in the bible are mere guesses considering that a lot of the stories are not written by the people in such stories, rather by other people some odd hundreds of years later. Moses wrote the book of Genesis despite not present during creation. Is that recorded history or guess? Mind you, I am very much Christian but I am wise enough to know that scientific evidence is not an antithesis of biblical accounts. |
Science/Technology / Re: 240-Million-Year-Old Sea Monster Unearthed In China, Has Giant Lizard In Belly by destinable(m): 7:36am On Aug 22, 2020 |
Pelecius: Really! You're asking if there's any trace of carbon in fossils? Do you even know what either/both carbon or fossil is at all? Do you know the process an organism has to go through to be called a fossil? If there's no trace of carbon in fossils, then which trapped carbon is released during the burning of fossil fuel? If you have a problem with dating techniques, how about you first try to understand half-life and it's applications. Before you start throwing low blows, just know that geological works/research is what I do for a living and I only quoted you because of the misinformation on your entire submission. |

MERCHANDISER:I swear! The things we see on the internet these days! I don't have a problem if their cognition is way below comprehension of simple geology but putting down researchers who have dedicated their lives to unravelling the past due to your insecurities is one that will never sit well with me. I try most times not to engage with their likes cos I know it'll be unfulfilling. |

Corruptnation:You really are a dimwit. Why are you being sentimental? Nobody is dull? Have you met you? Maybe you try checking out the dictionary meaning of perspective. You were so quick to let everyone know you went abroad to study geology, albeit the abroad part being superfluous. Did you think that bit would make you appear smart? If you've ever conducted an independent research in your life, you would know not to besmirch other scientists research in a bid to promote a bland conspiracy. As for travelling out the country, just chill, I've taken your moniker. I'll send you links to my international research. Just maybe it'll teach you something your life lacks. |

I mean the dullest geologist in my graduate set made it out of the country on a scholarship. Would I be surprised if his likes come here to spew what you're spewing now? Not exactly. How many research have you done? The independent research I made for my dissertations, were they a bid to get funds too? You likes sit in desolation discrediting years of research because CONSPIRACIES are your bread and jam. visatex:Lol. Your ignorance is seething. Your reason for doubting the existence of geological events is because you believe the bible. To you they cannot be mutually exclusive. You call study of fossils fraud? Like I said initially, I only blame Nigeria educational system. The largest naturally preserved fossil, sue, is in museum. I know you've never been to a museum in your life. I even doubt you know the meaning of a fossil. Once again I blame the Nigerian educational system. Seeing as I'd be depleting my brain cells trying to explain to you in a way I wouldn't even explain to a kindergarten before they understand, I I'll leave you to your ignorance guised in a self-conceited disposition. 5 Likes |

This is same reason why someone that read Architecture is positing that 5G is the cause of death in Wuhan, China and you lots believe. If you do not know something, how about you ask? Do you think it's everything in your field of study that is believable, yet I'll never argue with you on it because you probably know more than me in that field. Now imagine me seeing you argue blindly in a field of mine. You're not asking to know, but you think you're smarter than people in the field. May God help us and our educational system. 1 Like |

honeyB2018:Young man, you simply do not have anything reasonable to contribute. I bet the only scriptural passage of tithing you know is Mal 3 vs 10. You said tithing is not under the law, I provided a passage for you showing tithing is law. I also show you passage condemning the law and it's uselessness (Heb 7 vs 18). The new testament was established after the death of Jesus yet you want to live by the same law he came to rid of. Anyone who chooses to live by the law must not be selective of the law they chose to keep, you must abide by them all (Gal 3 vs 10 - 14). Young man, I implore you today to repent cos you're living in sin by tithing. You can donate freely to your place of worship but you're no longer mandated. Ciao! 1 Like |

Your type reduce the death of Jesus christ to absolutely no significance because the same new testament he died to establish is not enough for your kind. I bet if Jesus came down today to warn against tithing, your type would still pay cos your pastor says so. 1 Like

honeyB2018: So you're trying to say tithing is not under the law. Wow! I guess Heb 7 vs 5 that says tithing is under the law was wrong, right? Abraham gave a tenth of his loots to Melchizidiek, the chief priest. This was before it made a law. Jesus is now the chief priest and has cancelled all our legal indebtedness. Study your bible more and stop trying to be clever by half. Col 2vs14 Eph 2vs 15 Gal 5vs 1. And before you say Christ did not come to abolish the law, he said he came to fulfil it. Meaning of fulfill (according to English dictionary): To satisfy, carry out, bring to completion (an obligation, a requirement, etc.). Also, burnt sacrifices preceded the law as well, but why are you not burning sacrifices unto the lord since you want to continue tithing because it precedes the law? 1 Like |

AkpaMgbor: Dinosaurs and man existed in different geological times. You may find it hard to believe if you are Christian cos they're the only religious dispensation doubting it, I think. If you're Christian, we may have to agree to disagree on this cos your argument will probably fault carbon dating. Ps. I'm Christian too but I believe the bible account of creation is not literal and straightforward, maybe due to translating errors. |

Science/Technology / Re: 100-million-year-old “river Monster” Discovered In The Sahara (photos) by destinable(m): 10:24am On May 01, 2020 |
AkpaMgbor: It's not only in the past. The continental plates are constantly moving but at a slow rate which is why it's not quite obvious. One characteristic of a fossil is that it must be geological widespread across several locations. Most parts in Nigeria used to be submerged in water. I'm talking about hundred hundreds of thousands of years. I know this because there are fossils that typically live in marine and lacustrine environments that are found in these parts albeit dry land now. In that same vein, some cultures may have large beasts because they migrated to favorable conditions. Some even swam across oceans to their new home. If I did not answer your question still, then maybe pose the question towards what you want to know. |

If you post something here about your area of study, no matter how much it defies logic, what I'd do is to Google it, and if true, I'll learn from you cos that's how I learn. Back to this matter, they captured it while it was buried. They actually dug for weeks or months. And yes, there could be fossils in your backyard. It doesn't have to be ginormous. It could be as small as a snail (eg. Trilobites), even microscopic (eg. Foraminifera). Google the names in bracket. Sorry if I came across rude but just be open to learn new things. |

9jaDoomCountry: These are the kind of remarks I find entirely annoying. Ignorance will make you guys argue with people that have dedicated their lives researching this field. The bones you see are called fossils because they were buried/preserved in natural conditions that oxygen couldn't decompose them. In some cases, the fossils were so well preserved that some flesh and their entire body structure were intact. Do not be a typical Nigerian. Ask questions and you just might be educated by professionals here in nairaland. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

AkpaMgbor: Why do you have to lie to prove your point? You obviously read my excerpt in the previous pages to get the scriptural passage of job I quoted. The description of Behemoth do no anyway match that of a dinosaur. Dinosaurs couldn't have lived with humans because they are largely territorial. Atleast consult google to see the pictorial representation of behemoth from the description. You guys never want to learn, you believe everyone is out to deceive you. |

As a geologist, it's been quite difficult reading this thread from start to finish. I see a lot of misinformed and, simply put, slow people on the thread. It'll be insane for to argue with people in the medical field cos I know less. Why would I argue about the placebo effect and other medical mysteries? Now, let me explain this in a kindergarten way for the religious buffs and skeptics. I am Christian but not all account in the bible are literal. For example, there is no record/fossil of the behemoth mentioned in the bible in Job 40:15–24 on earth. Then again, if you believe the earth is only 6,000 years old, how do you explain the remains/fossils of dinosaurs and other animals in museums? Those dinosaurs predate the 6,000 years you believe. How do I know this? Because there was no account in the bible of dinosaurs living during biblical times, meaning they existed before humans on earth. For the skeptics of evolution, this process, like many biological/geological processes, is extremely slow and not readily obvious at a go. An example of extremely slow processes like this is sea floor spreading where new EARTH crust is formed by the movement of tectonic plates, meaning the size of the earth is expanding every now and then but at a slow pace. The movement rate ranges from 1cm to 15cm per year. How anyone observe this process in their lifetime if not for scientific research? An easier way to digest this without contradicting your belief is to see it that every scientific research/processes is God's handiwork. The timing of creation in Genesis is not clear-cut hence there's a possibility that the 7 days of creation may have represented millions of years apart. Africa is sitting on a gold mine with plenty of paleontological treasures like fossils and other things but no dedication to research to uncover these things. If we took research serious, people from all walks of life would be trooping into Africa for tourism purposes. Nobody is trying to deceive anybody. Educate yourself before spewing hot trash. 1 Like |

MiddleDimension: I admire your resilience trying to educate some slowp*kes on here. How do you expect them to understand geological time when they believe the earth is only 6,000 years old. I am a geologist and christian (which is where we do not share same belief) myself but I do not swallow everything in the bible hook, line and sinker because it has some rather contradictory passages. Safe to say I am christian because I believe there is a superior being that created the world using techniques/pattern that is uncovered as scientific discovery (we do not have to agree on this). Some of the ignorance I have observed from the first page of this thread is baffling. There are so many things happening in this world that so many so-called christians wouldn't believe cos they just won't read other texts aside the bibe. Like for instance, new Earth is forming every day from sea-floor spreading but it is not very obvious becuase it's all in geological time. I wish people would just read instead of portraying a special kind of stupidity. 2 Likes |
