Obire: Advocating Power Shift to the North in 2027 Undermines Equity and National Unity By Adebayo Shantel Saturday, April 12, 2025 Dr. Godwin Obire, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Executive Assistant (Political) to the Delta State Governor, has described any call for a power shift from the South to the North in 2027 as unpatriotic and contrary to the principles of equity and national unity. Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Obire criticized what he termed a coalition of opposition figures, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, for opposing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s potential second-term bid. He argued that such opposition is unjustified and does not align with the long-standing understanding of rotational power between the North and South since the return to democratic rule in 1999. “I strongly support the South completing its constitutionally permitted eight years,” Obire said. “It is unfair and against the spirit of equity for anyone to suggest a return of power to the North in 2027, especially after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure.” He added, “Those pushing for a northern presidency at this point are not acting in the national interest. It shows a lack of patriotism and undermines the collective agreement that has helped maintain political stability.” While acknowledging that political coalitions are common in democratic systems, Obire dismissed the current opposition alliance as ineffective, stating that it poses no real threat to the APC's electoral prospects in 2027. Addressing criticisms of President Tinubu’s administration, Obire emphasized that two years is insufficient to judge the performance of any government. He highlighted achievements in socioeconomic and infrastructural development under Tinubu’s leadership within this short period. On the recent wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC, Obire said it should not be misconstrued as the country leaning toward a one-party state. He pointed out that major opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) still hold significant elective positions, including governorships. Obire also expressed concern over the persistent insecurity in parts of the country, noting that it predates the current administration. He called for the reinforcement of community policing, involving traditional rulers, youth groups, and local stakeholders, as a way to enhance security at the grassroots level. “To solve the problem, we must identify its root causes,” he said. “Community policing, led by local leaders and supported by security agencies, is key. We also need to strengthen border security with the active involvement of communities along those areas.” He commended President Tinubu’s engagement with security chiefs and the National Security Adviser, expressing optimism that a lasting solution to the insecurity challenge is underway.

CNBN Decries Plateau Killings, Demands Urgent Government Intervention By Timothy McVeigh Punch Newspaper Friday, April 11, 2025 The Concern Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN) has issued a strongly worded condemnation of the escalating violence in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, characterizing the recent attacks as acts of systematic ethnic cleansing. In an official statement released by the National Chairperson of the group, Dr. Godwin Obire, CNBN described the assaults as a “targeted annihilation” of innocent civilians, emphasizing that the attacks were not random but part of an organized campaign of terror. According to the group, the violence that unfolded between April 2 and 3, 2025, resulted in the deaths of more than 80 people. Communities including Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, Tadai, and Ruwi were reportedly ravaged during the assaults. The statement described harrowing scenes in which women, children, and the elderly were slaughtered, homes were incinerated, and ancestral lands desecrated. CNBN alleged that Fulani militias were responsible, accusing them of executing the attacks with “genocidal intent.” “This is not a case of random violence,” the statement read. “It is calculated, systematic, and genocidal.” Dr. Obire also rebuked the federal government and security agencies for their “conspicuous silence and woeful inaction,” which he claimed has left the people of Bokkos vulnerable and unprotected. “How many more mass graves must be filled before the Nigerian state awakens to its responsibility?” he asked. The CNBN further contended that the ongoing atrocities represent a covert strategy to gradually eliminate indigenous Christian communities under the guise of the longstanding farmer-herder crisis. As part of its recommendations, CNBN called for: The immediate classification of Fulani militia groups as terrorist organizations; The creation of a special tribunal to investigate the killings; The establishment of a permanent and well-equipped security task force in Bokkos; The expulsion of foreign mercenaries and land-grabbers from affected areas. The group also issued a rallying cry to civil society organizations, religious leaders, and youth movements to speak out and mobilize in defense of the embattled communities. “A people abandoned by their government must not abandon themselves,” the statement asserted. In a rare gesture of commendation, CNBN praised the Butura Development Association for its unwavering support of the grieving people of Ruwi, describing the association as a symbol of unity and resilience reflective of the Plateau spirit. Finally, CNBN appealed to the international community, human rights defenders, and global justice institutions to document and respond to what it termed a “genocide in progress.” “Let the world bear witness,” the statement concluded. “Bokkos shall not bleed in vain.”

Thank You, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, for This Significant Political Win for the APC – Welcome Alawei Kingsley Otuaro By Maria Udofia In Delta State, many leaders within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are becoming increasingly disillusioned with a political system that revolves around one individual’s selfish agenda. They have been left without any significant opportunities, not even basic contracts, which has led many to seek refuge in the All Progressives Congress (APC). In the coming days, it will become evident what I’m saying. When a leader is self-centered, prioritizing personal gain over the collective good, those who once supported the cause will eventually abandon it and seek a better path. Who are you fooling? A leader should empower their supporters, giving them opportunities to earn and grow. This reminds me of a quote attributed to John F. Kennedy, where he suggested that the government should employ citizens to dig ditches while others cover them, just to keep them employed and fed. It’s a metaphor that speaks to the importance of providing opportunities, not just empty promises. No one can remain loyal on an empty stomach. I sympathize with those who continue to voice their grievances about their governor, who earns three times what Okowa earned during his tenure, yet there is no sign of progress. The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has been reduced to zero, and many other initiatives are at a complete standstill. Politicians often fail to grasp the dynamics of political patronage in a capitalist democracy. It’s about giving people the tools they need to succeed, not hoarding power for oneself. In the APC, we have learned from past mistakes. It’s clear that only those living in George Orwell’s Animal Farm would continue to chant praises for a system that’s no longer working. A quick read of Animal Farm reveals how those who cling to power for power’s sake ultimately lose sight of the people they were meant to serve. Baba Frayo, a true Isoko man, wisely said, "I want to throw a stone, and whoever it hits will know." The politics of greed will always falter. As Wole Soyinka once said, “When the people are chased to the wall, they bounce back.” With that, I extend a warm welcome to Alawei Kingsley Otuaro as he joins the APC. May his leadership bring a new dawn for the people of Delta State.

Celebrating Chuks Erhire's Appointment and Honoring Our Leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege By Ejiro Oghenenyore Monday, March 31, 2025 Mr. Promise Ogumu, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ika North-East in Delta State, extends heartfelt congratulations to Engr. Chuks Erhire on his recent appointment as the Executive Director of Engineering Services at the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This significant milestone is recognized as a testament to loyalty and hard work. In an exclusive interview with newsmen in Abuja, Mr. Ogumu expressed his excitement over the appointment and extended his gratitude to President Tinubu (GCFR) for acknowledging and rewarding Engr. Erhire's steadfast dedication to the APC. He noted that this appointment has generated widespread jubilation across the state and beyond. Mr. Ogumu emphasized that Engr. Erhire’s diligence and unwavering commitment to the APC, both in Delta State and nationally, merit this honor. He encouraged party members to continue their support for President Tinubu's administration, which aims to bring about positive changes to the nation’s economy. Engr. Chuks Erhire’s appointment serves as a clear reminder that loyalty is rewarding. Throughout the years, he has remained steadfastly loyal to our leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who played a pivotal role in facilitating this well-deserved appointment. Chuks has made invaluable contributions to our party through his advocacy efforts and by effectively promoting the government’s initiatives, often standing strong against the opposition. This appointment is not just recognition of his hard work; it is a beacon of hope for our party faithful and the people of Delta State,” Ogumu said. He added, “I am truly delighted that Chuks is receiving this honor at such a crucial time in our nation’s history. Congratulations on a well-deserved appointment! At the same time, I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate our esteemed leader, His Excellency Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for his unwavering dedication to facilitating opportunities for our party members. His remarkable ability to bridge gaps has yielded a number of appointments, including that of Barr. Aruviere Martin Egharhevwa as Federal Commissioner (Delta State) of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, and Felix Morka as the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, who recently assumed the role of Chairman of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). Mr. Ogumu further acknowledged Senator Omo-Agege's consistent support for party loyalists, stating, “Our leader is always there for his party faithful, loyal friends, and supporters, regardless of the circumstances. Congratulations to the APC family in Delta State!” Mr. Ogumu reiterated his warm congratulations to Chuks Erhire on his esteemed appointment as the Executive Director of Engineering Services at the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority. “Congratulations once again, Chuks! This achievement is a reflection of your dedication and service,” he declared enthusiastically.

Congratulations to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko on His Legal Victory By Okimute Timothy The Non-Indigenous Residents in Anioma (NIRA) extend heartfelt congratulations to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko on the recent affirmation of his political defection by the High Court, characterizing this verdict as a significant triumph for democracy in Nigeria. This statement was made by the Chairman of NIRA’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Maria E. Udofia; the Chairman of the Advisory Board, Prof. Amechi Oke; and the National Coordinator, Daniel Geoy, during a press conference held in Abuja. The group expressed that with this judicial endorsement, Senator Nwoko is now poised to confront the pressing issue of marginalization that the current Sheriff-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government has inflicted upon the Anioma community in the Delta North senatorial district. They noted that this ruling provides an opportunity for the Senator to focus on addressing the needs and aspirations of his constituents without the distractions of legal challenges stemming from his party switch. Furthermore, they congratulated Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing that this victory reflects the APC's growing acceptability among the populace. The NIRA asserted that under its current leadership, the APC is positioned for greater successes across all levels of governance. They urged opposition parties to refrain from pursuing baseless legal challenges that lack substantial merit. “We extend our warmest congratulations to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko on the court’s affirmation of his transition and senatorial mandate. This decision represents a clarion call to action, and we at NIRA believe that with this distraction removed, Delta North will soon experience renewed progress and development,” they stated. The group also called upon the Delta State government led by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to abandon divisive politics and support Senator Nwoko in overcoming the current challenges facing the senatorial district. They expressed gratitude to the court for rejecting the attempt to unseat Senator Nwoko amidst his defection, emphasizing the legal clarity that has arisen from this landmark judgment. According to Dr. Maria E. Udofia, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) dismissed the lawsuit initiated by Marvis Ossai, which sought to unseat Senator Nwoko following his defection from the PDP to the APC. The court ruled on March 19 that the case was incompetent and lacked merit, clearly stating that it did not have jurisdiction to consider such a claim. She elaborated that the lawsuit aimed to invalidate Senator Nwoko’s Certificate of Return and declare the Delta North senatorial seat vacant due to his political shift. However, Justice A.H. Musa ruled that the claimant, Marvis Ossai, did not possess the legal standing to initiate the case, deeming the lawsuit fundamentally flawed and legally defunct. In an assertive decision, the judge dismissed the suit outright, ensuring it could not be resurrected under similar frivolous pretexts in the future. This ruling constitutes a decisive victory for Senator Nwoko, who maintained that the court lacked jurisdiction over such political disputes, especially when no constitutional violation was demonstrated. This judgment not only signifies a crucial legal setback for opposition figures attempting to contest Nwoko’s electoral position but also reinforces the constitutional safeguards that protect the tenures of elected officials in Nigeria.

2003 to date, Anioma on my mind. By Chibundu Nwapali. Let me start by thanking you all for the honour of inviting me to this inaugural meeting of the College of Anioma Patriots. In 2003, there was a nationwide frenzy over the twin issues of resource control and state creation. To support our legislators at the national level, Delta State Government assembled a highly competent technical team, and I remember that Prof G.G. Darah was in this team. I took the time to study the provisions of the constitution and said to the governor when I had the opportunity, "Sir, why are we wasting energy on state creation? The framers of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, never intended for anyone to achieve additional state creation under its provisions." Over the years, I have been proven right. Every legislative assembly has used the issue of state creation to keep the polity distracted—an exercise in futility. The recent statement from the House of Representatives that no request for state creation before it met the constitutional requirements saddened me. Not because I believed state creation was viable, but because valuable time and resources were being wasted on what I knew to be a non-issue. Even if state creation were genuinely on the table, the pursuit of Anioma State this time around has been marred by division and disrespect—particularly the online vitriol directed at elders by social media hirelings of those who should have been leading the process. A process that required unity and strategy was instead reduced to chaos. Worse still, there was no formal request for Anioma State before the House of Representatives. This is a critical fact. Were our representatives working at cross purposes with our senator? Did our senator provide leadership for his fellow legislators at the federal and state levels? Each of them has a vital role to play in any serious state creation request. Yet, what became obvious was a resounding NO. This was not a sincere effort—it was a solo run for vanity, a blatant exploitation of our collective sentiment for an Anioma State. A textbook example of political jobbery. How else do you explain the insults hurled at anyone with a differing opinion? How do you explain the absurd notion of Anioma being placed in the South East? How do you justify the blatant disrespect toward the state governor, a former governor (an Anioma indigene), and a former senator? No one could correct or guide the senator. Instead of leading a coordinated push for state creation, he was busy attempting to hijack the party structure in the district—an effort that failed woefully due to strong resistance. The Senate alone cannot create a street, let alone a state. It has been a season of disgrace for the senator representing Delta North—the core Anioma constituency. What did he need the party structure for when he had none to become a candidate and win an election in the first place? This remains a mystery to me. To top it all off, what kind of sincere leader of a state creation movement crosses party lines in the middle of the struggle? Is that who the Anioma people are—fickle and unserious? No. That is not my Anioma people. We are a faithful, respectable and loyal people. We are strong, focused, and unwavering. We fight justly and win decisively. We do not kpobonekpobone (act recklessly). Senator Ned Nwoko-Daniels misled the people, and they deserve to know the truth. That is the purpose of this piece. |
Doris Uboh-Ogunkoya and the Delta North APC Meeting: A Gathering of Political Lightweight Telma Ufuoma Benny Point-blank Magazine Monday, February 2025 In a recent telephone interview with *Point-blank Magazine*, Godwin Obire expressed strong disapproval of the Delta North meeting convened by Doris Uboh-Ogunkoya, characterizing the attendees as political lightweights masquerading as heavyweights. He criticized them for attracting a hired audience, reportedly paying 2,000 Naira each in an effort to mislead political leaders in Abuja about their grassroots support in the Ika Federal Constituency. The reality, he insists, is stark: these politicians lack genuine political clout and are essentially adrift without their former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). "So who is Doris Uboh to organize a Delta North meeting at her residence in Ika South?” Obire questioned. “Ninety-nine percent of those present were Abuja-based politicians with no real connections to the grassroots.” Obire's comments highlight Uboh's declining political fortunes; he describes her as a "political corpse." Despite attempts to revive her career during her re-election bid in 2011, Uboh faced overwhelming rejection from constituents. Since then, her political influence has waned significantly, largely due to her disconnected approach that is characterized by a reliance on Abuja politics instead of genuine engagement with her community. Her attempts to manipulate electoral outcomes in 2015 further fueled public disdain. When she sought to manipulate the electoral process in her favor, she was soundly defeated by Victor Nwokolo of the PDP. Attempting to leverage her connections in Abuja to secure judicial support for her claims only backfired, leaving her politically stranded and demoralized. Since joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), which Obire considers "the worst political party in Africa," Uboh has not succeeded in winning any elections. Reports indicate that during the 2022 primary election for the Ika Federal Constituency, she faced substantial opposition from fellow APC members. Allegations of her instigating violence to eliminate competition further marred her image. The chaotic nature of that primary, which she controversially declared herself the winner, raised serious doubts about the legitimacy of her victory, with accusations that she prevented eleven of her rivals' delegates from voting. Obire argues that it’s absurd for political lightweights from the APC to believe they can dethrone the PDP in Ika Federal Constituency or any part of Delta North. He contends that the PDP has never been ousted in this region by "political jokers." Looking at the fragmented nature of the APC in Delta State, it is evident that these political factions are unable to consolidate their efforts, raising questions about their ability to compete effectively against a well-organized PDP. Moreover, the absence of key APC politicians, referred to as "semi-lightweights," such as Senator Peter Nwanboshi, Friday Osanebi, and Chidu Ebie, from the meeting hosted by Uboh underscores the disarray within the APC. This lack of high-profile involvement from established politicians serves as a testament to the confusion, disorganization, and frustration prevalent in the APC's ranks. The time will inevitably come for a clear distinction between serious political players and those merely raising their profiles through theatrics. Obire insists that the APC will struggle to challenge the PDP's dominance in Delta State and remains steadfast in his assertion that they are nothing more than political lightweights.

Ossai Ossai: A Political Catastrophe Unworthy of Serious Consideration By Emeka Nkenaba Ndokwa Voice Magazine February 27, 2027 Political strategist Godwin Obire has characterized Ossai N. Ossai's recent switch from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as devoid of any political merit for either party. He emphasized that Ossai Ossai is a political burden with no real value. Obire made these remarks following a private political meeting with associates in Ndokwa Nation. He critically assessed the APC, declaring that the party is so unpopular that it wouldn't win even a single unit in Ndokwa or anywhere else in Delta State. He attributed this decline to the APC's failure to address the pressing economic concerns of Nigerians. “It’s essential to reflect on our leadership crisis, especially in Ndokwa Nation,” Obire remarked. “Ossai Ossai has proven to be the most ineffective representative in our history—a clear example of wasted years in governance. Over two decades as a legislator, including eight years as Majority Leader in the Delta State House of Assembly and over 12 years in the House of Representatives, he has failed to deliver even the most basic support to Ndokwa. His tenure was marked by self-interest, neglecting the needs of his constituents.” Obire posed an important question: “What legacy has this political misfortune left in Ndokwa? Though I consider Ossai a friend, I cannot help but criticize him for the sake of our community. His departure to the APC—a party associated with widespread economic hardship across Nigeria—only reinforces his status as a political disaster for Ndokwa." He pointed out Ossai’s inability to address critical issues, such as flooding, which has plagued the constituency year after year. “He did not advocate for his people during his time in office, failing to even propose motions that could have provided relief. His record of inactivity is undeniable.” Obire also questioned Ossai's academic credentials, suggesting that his qualifications do not correspond with his effectiveness as a leader. “How can someone with multiple degrees fail to champion his community's most pressing issues? He was merely a passive figure in both state and federal legislative bodies for two decades,” he stated. That Ossai remains unaware of his responsibilities to wield political power for the benefit of Ndokwa further underscores his ineffectiveness. “He should have been advocating for federal budget allocations to address Ndokwa's challenges, yet his focus seems to be solely on contesting future elections on the platform of a party that has inflicted so much suffering on our people,” Obire lamented. As for the prospect of a federal educational institution in Ndokwa, these crucial matters are apparently of little concern to Ossai. Instead of uniting his community, he seems intent on leading them into further economic struggle. “Even his family members are not inclined to join him in the APC, which reflects the lack of faith the people of Ndokwa have in his leadership.”

Obire Condemns Akpabio’s Undemocratic Actions Towards Senator Natasha Akpoti By Friday Afenfia Punch Newspaper - Thursday, February 20, 2025 Godwin Obire PhD, the Chairman of Concerned Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN) and a former legislative aide to both the Deputy President of the 9th Senate and to Dr. Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State, has issued a strong condemnation of the actions of the current Senate President, His Excellency Godswill Akpabio. Obire characterized Akpabio's conduct as undemocratic and contrary to the principles of legislative ethics that are essential for upholding a vibrant democracy. In a press conference held in Abuja, Obire emphasized that “The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), alongside the Standing Orders of the Senate, safeguards every Senator’s right to articulate their views and represent their constituents without fear of intimidation or retribution.” He highlighted that Section 39(1) of the Constitution unequivocally guarantees the freedom of expression, whereas the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act serves to protect lawmakers from harassment for their opinions during legislative debates. Obire strongly criticized Akpabio’s decision to expel Senator Natasha Akpoti as a gross violation of these constitutional provisions, labelling the act as not only a blatant disregard for democracy but also an affront to the principles of justice and freedom. “Akpabio’s dictatorial actions represent an outrageous breach of our democratic framework,” he asserted. He posed crucial questions about Akpabio's understanding of his role: “Is Akpabio above the Constitution? Does he perceive the Senate chamber as his personal fiefdom, where dissenting voices can be silenced at will?” He reminded that the Senate President is not a ruler but a representative of the people—a custodian of legislative integrity rather than a tyrant wielding unchecked power. “The Senate chamber is not his personal court where he can cast out elected representatives like a monarch. Senators carry the collective will of millions, and silencing one dissenting voice is an attack on every Nigerian who holds dear the values of justice, truth, and democracy,” he stated emphatically. Obire further questioned the implications of this act for democracy, stating, “When a sitting Senate President expels a fellow Senator merely for expressing her views, we must inquire: What underlying fears motivate such draconian measures? What truths is he attempting to suppress? If he displays such contempt for a democratically elected Senator in public, one can only imagine the level of oppression faced by ordinary citizens striving to make their voices heard.” He framed this incident not only as an attack on Senator Akpoti but as a broader threat to the very essence of Nigeria’s democracy. “When those in positions of authority resort to silencing opposition and curtailing debate, they lay the groundwork for authoritarianism. Today it is Senator Natasha; tomorrow it may be any voice that dares to speak against the prevailing power,” he cautioned. Dr. Obire called upon Nigerians to outright reject this reckless exercise of power and demand accountability from their leaders. “Akpabio’s unjust actions must not go unchallenged. Silence in the face of such abuses risks transforming the Senate—from a pillar of democracy into an instrument of oppression.” “This should serve as a stark reminder to Akpabio and others who believe they can disregard constitutional mandates: The will of the people is not to be silenced. The voice of truth will inevitably prevail. Nigeria belongs to its citizens, not to a select few who consider themselves above the law.” Obire’s stirring remarks resonate deeply within the context of Nigeria's ongoing struggle for a robust democratic process—one that upholds the constitutional rights of every individual, including those in legislative roles. Only through vigilance and active participation can the Nigerian populace safeguard their democracy from the encroachments of undemocratic conduct.

2027 Ugehelli/Udu Federal Constituency: DSC Youths Rally Support for Godwin Obire Friday, February 14, 2024 By Emeka Chinenyod, Vanguard A youth organization known as the DSC Youth Movement is calling on Godwin Obire, the Executive Assistant for Political Affairs to the Governor of Delta State, to run for the House of Representatives seat in the Ugehelli/Udu constituency in the upcoming 2027 elections. The movement is committed to mobilizing young people throughout the Ugehelli/Udu federal constituency to encourage Obire to pursue this opportunity, asserting that he has the constitutional right to do so and that no one can impede his ambition. In a statement released over the weekend and signed by the National President of the Movement, Chief Okiemute Leonard, the group emphasized that Obire should heed their call, despite opposition from those who consider themselves political titans and believe they 'own' the Ugehelli/Udu federal constituency. “The DSC Youth Movement (DYM) hereby urges Olorogun Godwin Obire to enter the race for the forthcoming 2027 House of Representatives seat representing the Ugehelli/Udu federal constituency. Obire stands out as the most qualified candidate; he boasts an impressive educational background, including a Degree in Geology, a Bachelor’s in Accounting, a Master’s in Accounting, and a PhD in Auditing and Financial Management. This makes him exceptionally suited for public office, and we believe he is the best candidate for the position. We advocate for a public debate among aspiring candidates to distinguish genuine qualifications from mere rhetoric,” the statement said. "Obire is not just eligible; he is a product of the DSC system, having attended the DSC Model Primary School and grown up within the DSC community. Therefore, he is one of our own, and we are prepared to offer him our unwavering support and votes. The DSC Youth Movement (DYM) plans to visit all wards and units within the federal constituency to ensure that Godwin Obire assumes leadership in the Ugehelli/Udu Federal House of Representatives. Currently, we lack effective representation in the Green Chamber, and it feels as though our representatives are absent due to insufficient advocacy.” The organization strongly asserts that Obire's candidacy could significantly change the dynamics within the Ugehelli/Udu constituency, enhancing visibility and responsiveness in the federal legislative body. "Godwin Obire is a dedicated and hardworking individual. His election to the House of Representatives will bring about transformative changes, demonstrating that he belongs in the Green Chamber,” the statement elaborated. “In this digital age, we require representatives with modern skills and experiences to fulfill legislative duties effectively. We believe that Obire’s presence in the House of Representatives will usher in growth and development for the Ugehelli/Udu constituency. What we need now is expansion, and only individuals with digital legislative experience can achieve this—not representatives who are absent and inactive.” The group is also appealing to all DSC members and residents of the entire federal constituency to look beyond political party loyalties and extend their full support to Obire, highlighting his qualifications as unparalleled among all individuals who have held or are aspiring for that seat. "The Nigerian Constitution does not prohibit him from running for office. Therefore, we want the community to judge Obire based on his merit and character rather than political affiliations or petty grievances,” they declared. The DYM has initiated a grassroots campaign, reaching out directly to the residents of the DSC community to raise awareness about Obire's candidacy, emphasizing their commitment to liberating their constituency from what they perceive as legislative inadequacies in the Green Chamber.

2027: Will Godwin Obire Contest the Race for the Ugehelli/Udu Federal House Seat? By Evonemo Ogheneochuko Thursday, February 13, 2027 The Punch News As the excitement builds in the Ugehelli/Udu federal constituency of Delta State, supporters of Olorogun Godwin Obire, the current Executive Assistant (EA Political) to the Governor of Delta State, are increasingly urging him to formally declare his candidacy for the upcoming 2027 House of Representatives election. The mounting pressure from constituents and political associates underscores the strong belief in Obire’s qualifications and capability to effectively serve the needs of the people in this region. Olorogun Godwin Obire, a well-educated and politically astute leader from Agbarho, has been at the forefront of regional political discourse. He has expressed confidence that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will not only secure the Ugehelli/Udu federal constituency seat but will also make significant inroads into the Delta Central senatorial seat. His insights resonate with local stakeholders, many of whom anticipate his official announcement to run for the Ugehelli/Udu seat in 2027. Obire's assertions came during a recent inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Enwe (Isoko South) to Uwherun (Ughelli North) road, as well as the reconstruction of the Oruwhorun-Usiefrun-Ekrokpe road. Speaking to members of the press, he highlighted the importance of community connectivity through improved road infrastructure, showcasing the dedication of the Oborevwori-led administration toward the region's development. Accompanying him were notable allies, including Olorogun Adjeke, Chief Ovie Onojeghuo and several emerging leaders from the Delta Central Senatorial District, all eager to support Obire’s potential candidacy. In discussing his political vision, Obire noted that the direction of the political landscape in 2027 will heavily depend on the tangible impacts made by political figures in the lives of their constituents. He emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders to provide “visible dividends of democracy” that resonate with the electorate, stating, “The people are wiser now; they won’t be swayed by empty promises. They demand to see real change and improvement in their lives and communities.” Obire is committed to expanding the reach of the PDP in Ugehelli/Udu, believing that the party has the potential to overtake the All Progressives Congress (APC) in both the local and senatorial elections. “You just wait and see as we head towards the 2027 election,” he confidently asserted. This sentiment reflects not just a hopeful outlook but a firm commitment to listening to and addressing the needs of the electorate. Despite the growing support and calls for him to enter the race, the critical question remains: will Godwin Obire choose to accept this call to public service in 2027? His supporters express unyielding optimism, yet the final decision rests with him. In the meantime, there is a palpable sense of anticipation as the communities eagerly awaits his announcement, hoping for a positive affirmation that could lead to significant political change in the Ugehelli/Udu federal constituency.

Elder Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, an assemblage of progressive think tanks in Delta State, has declared their unwavering support for the re-election of Governor Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori. The College pledged to mobilize over 90 percent of all eligible voters in Delta State to cast their votes for Sheriff in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in 2027. In a recent meeting held at the Unity Hall of the Old Government House in Asaba, the Chairman of the College, Hon. Taju Isichei, stated that it is both natural and justifiable to support the re-election of Governor Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He emphasized the governor's commendable efforts in consolidating his developmental strides and the provision of essential economic and social infrastructure, which have come to be the hallmark of his administration. He praised Governor Sheriff for his promises kept and for bringing pride to Delta State as a distinguished leader. “Beyond advocating for equity for Delta Central and allowing the Urhobo nation to complete its two terms of leadership in the state, Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori has exhibited extraordinary capacity as an accomplished administrator. His remarkable performance has made us proud. We have witnessed his strategic approach to governance, characterized by stakeholder engagement and collaboration with development partners as key drivers for progress, which is highly commendable,” Isichei declared. Chief Duncan Ewhere, Secretary of the College of Executive Assistants to the Governor, highlighted that “Sheriff's bold and decisive approach to governance, marked by swift service delivery and equitable opportunities for community development, has endeared him to all Deltans—a fact even his most ardent critics cannot deny.” In alignment with these sentiments, Olorogun Godwin Obire and Chief Moses Christian Abeh underscored the comprehensive benefits that Deltans have reaped from the Sheriff-led administration, acknowledging it as an unprecedented achievement in the history of governance in Delta State. "We have begun to mobilize voters in our various communities across Delta North Senatorial District and throughout Delta Central and South, working closely with our brothers and sisters from other areas, to ensure that over 90 percent of the state's votes are garnered for Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori and the People's Democratic Party in the 2027 general election," Obire asserted. During a question-and-answer session with Point-blank Magazine, two members of the College, Hon. Ebifa Ijeoma and Hon. David Bozimo, emphasized that the 2027 elections will undeniably be a contest between forces of retrogression and subjugation on one side, and true progress and freedom for all Nigerians on the other. “This election is of monumental importance,” Ebifa declared. To counteract potential manipulations, the College of Executive Assistants has devised plans for door-to-door voter outreach across the three senatorial districts in Delta State, in addition to conducting voter education initiatives on how to correctly thumbprint on the ballot come 2027. The College of Executive Assistants to the Governor of Delta State is fundamentally dedicated to supporting Sheriff’s re-election bid, ensuring he can continue to build upon the progressive development of Delta State as a whole. Obire Congratulates Amori on His Appointment: A Square Peg in a Square Hole for the PDP-Led Administration By Emeka Wawe Punch Newspaper Tuesday, January 14, 2024 ASABA—Olorogun Godwin Obire, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Chief Ighoyota Amori on his recent appointment as Chief Adviser to the Delta State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. Obire, who serves as the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State (EA Political), praised Amori as a seasoned politician and a detribalized leader. He emphasized Amori's unwavering commitment to the socioeconomic transformation of the state over the years, highlighting his remarkable ability to unite people from diverse backgrounds towards a common goal. The significance of Amori's political network, both within the state and on a national level, underscores his esteemed position as a formidable figure in Nigerian politics. His enduring legacy in party politics is notably reflected in the pivotal role he has played in securing victories for the PDP in Delta State. With Amori now at the forefront of advising the Delta State government, Obire expressed confidence that the PDP-led administration will witness profound transformation and substantial improvements that will enhance the well-being of all citizens in Delta State. He stated, “Amori’s experience and strategic vision will be invaluable assets to the government, especially in addressing the pressing challenges faced by the state.” Obire further commended Amori for his substantial contributions to both the growth of the Peoples Democratic Party and the overall development of Delta State. Acknowledging Amori's candidacy for the Delta Central Senatorial District during the 2023 elections, he lauded his leadership qualities and his unwavering dedication to the party's ideals and objectives. In closing, Obire expressed his belief that Amori’s appointment is a prudent decision, characterizing him as a “square peg in a square hole.” This apt description illustrates the perfect fit of Amori’s skills and experience for the role he is to undertake, especially in light of the upcoming 2027 general elections. Obire anticipates that Amori’s influence will help steer the party toward continued success and strengthen its position within Delta State and beyond.

Agbarho Community Must Unite Against Cult Violence By Bayo Adegbemi Punch News Monday, December 16, 2024 The alarming rise in cult-related violence within the Agbarho community in the Ughieli North Local Government Area of Delta State has prompted a strong call to action from Olorogun Godwin Obire, a respected member of the community and the Executive Assistant (EA Political) to the Governor of Delta State. As the convener of the organization "Concerned Nigerians For Better Nigeria" (CNBN), Obire is urging community leaders to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of their residents. The recent deaths attributed to cult activities in Agbarho have ignited deep concern and a plea for collective action to restore peace and stability. Obire expressed grave disappointment at how groups originally established for comradeship, human rights, and social justice have transformed into violent entities engaged in deadly rivalries. Once dedicated to fostering social change, these groups are now often exploited to perpetuate division and conflict. “Why must young men resort to killing each other over colors or affiliations?” Obire asked, challenging members of these factions to reflect on their identities. “No one earns accolades for senseless violence,” he reminded them, emphasizing the need for peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement. To address this serious issue, Obire has proposed several crucial strategies. He stressed the need for local governments to initiate educational campaigns that highlight the dangers of cultism and the importance of living harmoniously. Additionally, he called on legislators to develop and enforce laws aimed at curbing cult-related violence and ensuring safer communities for all. Obire also pointed out the essential role of law enforcement agencies, suggesting they establish safe channels where members of confraternities can express their grievances without the risk of retaliation. Such measures are vital for preventing violence and fostering communication between rival factions. Further, he called upon members of cult groups to recognize how they are often manipulated for political ends, especially during protests or elections. He urged these individuals to seek unity rather than division, citing recent successful sporting events meant to foster camaraderie as positive examples. Obire recommended that residents who do not partake in cult activities refrain from making disparaging comments about these groups, as such remarks can inflame tensions. Acknowledging that cult members may react sensitively to perceived disrespect, he encouraged a more measured approach from the wider community. Additionally, Obire advocated for cooperation between public and private sectors to create peace-building initiatives, such as community sports and arts programs, which could foster unity and provide constructive outlets for young people. He also suggested offering rewards to individuals who promote peaceful behavior and distance themselves from violence. In closing, Obire expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those lost to cult-related violence, including the young men recently slain. He called for healing and a renewed dedication to peace, proclaiming, “We all depend on one another for survival.” He implored all residents, community leaders, and members of cult groups to unite in taking the necessary steps to eradicate violence in Agbarho once and for all.

ERHIATAKE IBORI-SUENU’S DEFLECTION TO ANOTHER PARTY: A SHAMEFUL ACT OF GREEDY ASPIRATIONS AGAINST THE WILL OF THE MAJORITY By Abidde Olukunyon Punch News Paper Wednesday December 11, 2024. In a recent statement, the Concerned Deltans for Better Delta (CDBD) have condemned the loss of Chief James Ibori’s daughter, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as a disgraceful display of ungratefulness and a desperate attempt to regain a position in the House of Representatives against the electorate's wishes. On Tuesday, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, who serves as the representative for Ethiope Federal Constituency, made a public announcement about her switch from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oghara, located within Ethiope West LGA of Delta State. During a press conference held in Abraka, the convenor of the group, Olorogun Godwin Obire, stated, “What Hon. Ibori-Suenu perceived as a pivotal political maneuver has rapidly lost its significance. Her defection, which she anticipated would attract attention, has largely gone unnoticed by the public.” Obire further noted that, “Interestingly, the supposed leader of the Delta APC, Festus Keyamo, the highest political figure representing the state, was notably absent to welcome her, alongside other prominent APC leaders like Stella Okotete, Hon. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, and even the senator representing her district, Senator Ede Dafinone, alongside Joel, who represents Delta South. This absence highlights that her defection was not met with enthusiasm.” In her emotionally charged resignation statement, Ibori-Suenu claimed, “I left due to my exclusion from the state party chapter.” However, it is important to remember that it was the PDP that granted her a ticket to the National Assembly in 2023, despite her evident unpopularity. Her complaints appear hollow and indicative of a politician who fails to recognize the goodwill and support that have bolstered her career over the years. “It is hardly surprising; Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu’s political presence has been chiefly founded on her father’s legacy and the PDP's respect for him as a former governor. For years, she has benefited from this foundation, which now appears to be crumbling following her ungrateful choice,” Obire continued. He reminded attendees that the PDP worked tirelessly to secure her victory in the 2023 elections, only for her to align herself with the opposition at this critical moment. While her betrayal was conspicuous, the PDP proved its resilience, achieving a resounding victory in the Delta State gubernatorial elections, including in her own constituency. The CDBD highlighted that Ibori-Suenu's inability to engage her local constituents indicates her eroding influence and disconnect from the very people she claimed to represent. “Her defection has attracted individuals primarily driven by self-interest, particularly in their pursuit of federal patronage. Many of these newly aligned members show scant appreciation for the precarious factional structure of the APC in Delta State, a party riddled with competing national leaders and state chairpersons," Obire concluded. He further added that their motivations do not stem from a genuine interest in boosting their party's prospects for the 2027 gubernatorial election or even for Hon. Ibori-Suenu’s benefit. “In fact, if the election were held tomorrow, most recognize that the APC wouldn't win a single local government area in Delta State. This is primarily a period for opportunists to maneuver into position and eventually return to the PDP prior to the elections,” Obire asserted. Ultimately, the CDBD views these defections as a cleansing rather than a significant loss for the PDP. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu’s exit bears little consequence; her political relevance has long been in decline, previously sustained only by her father's legacy and the party's goodwill — now clearly at an end. Despite her departure and that of others, the Delta PDP remains steadfast, cohesive, and committed to its objectives. The party recognizes its strength lies not in individuals seeking personal benefit but in the unity and determination of its loyal supporters. As the PDP in Delta State persists in its mission of governance and development, it remains resolute in its commitment to providing equitable growth for all residents, including those in Oghara and Orogun.

Political Rascality Unmasked: The Illegitimate Ascension of Akpeki as Acting State Chairman By Emeka Marvel Point-blank Magazine Monday December 2, 2024. In a move marred by illegality and political chicanery, Mr. Promise Ogumu, a notable figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and a former candidate for the Ika North-East State House of Assembly in the 2023 elections, has vehemently condemned the unlawful coronation of Chief Paulinus Akpeki as acting state chairman. This brazen act is not merely an aberration; it epitomizes a flagrant breach of party regulations, thrusting the APC into a quagmire of chaos and disorder. Ogumu, unyielding in his stance, categorically denounces Akpeki’s audacious ascension. He deems it a shocking assault on the principles of due process—a reckless gamble reflecting an insatiable hunger for power that runs counter to democratic ideals. Akpeki, currently serving as the Senatorial Chairman, wields no legitimate claim to the chairmanship while the Deputy Chairman holds office. The APC constitution lays down explicit guidelines for appointments, and to sidestep these mandates is to gnaw at the very roots of party governance. Referencing Article 14.2(iii) of the APC constitution, Ogumu elucidates that the provision permitting two Deputy National Chairmen to step in for the National Chairman at the national level is an entirely different beast from the state structure, which recognizes only one Deputy Chairman. Akpeki’s audacity to act in the role of acting chairman borders on insanity and flies in the face of established party protocols. Moreover, Ogumu vehemently criticizes the Delta State chapter’s State Working Committee (SWC) for their abhorrent endorsement of this unlawful appointment. Their complicity is an open showcase of constitutional lawlessness, undermining the very essence of unity the APC professes to champion. This blatant disregard for established norms is not just a procedural blunder; it could very well ignite the flames of disarray and fractiousness within the party ranks. By flouting the rules outlined in Articles 14.2(i) and (ii), the SWC exposes itself to charges of either gross incompetence or a sinister attempt to warp party regulations for self-serving ends. As a seasoned financier of the APC, Ogumu passionately argues that the SWC's misguided and reckless approval of Akpeki’s appointment jeopardizes the party’s political fortitude and cohesion. Rather than fortifying solidarity in the face of challenges, this act represents a regressive step—a scandalous affront to the APC constitution and a direct assault on the integrity of the party. He reminds party members with clarity: Chief Francis Obigbor, the Deputy State Chairman, is the legitimate acting chairman during Elder Omeni Sobotie's medical leave; thus, any claims to the contrary are nothing but deluded fabrications. Ogumu fiercely rebukes the declaration made by Valentine Onojeghuo, the State Publicity Secretary of APC Delta, branding it as unlawful and deceptive. This reckless statement is a calculated move aimed at sowing discord among the party faithful—an illustration of the ultimate irresponsibility that defines this faction of political rascality. As Chief Akpeki continues his role as the Chairman of the Delta Central Senatorial District, Ogumu insists that he must relinquish any aspirations of seizing authority that does not belong to him. He reiterates that Chief Francis Obigbor must rightfully assume the mantle of acting chairman during Elder Sobotie's absence, adhering strictly to Article 14.2(iii) of the APC Constitution, which designates the Deputy State Chairman for such responsibilities. Ogumu fervently urges APC members to reject the absurdity embodied by Chief Akpeki and his sycophants. He underscores that adherence to the party's constitution and solidarity amongst members is vital for the APC’s prosperity. The very integrity of the party hangs precariously in the balance, and it is the imperative of every true member to guard against such egregious encroachments. Political rascality will not be tolerated, and the time has come to rectify the ship before it sinks into the abyss of chaos.

Dr. Abel Oharume Declares Akpeki's Chairmanship Appointment as Unlawful By Adebayo Timi Dr. Abel Oharume has vehemently condemned the appointment of Chief Akpeki as the acting state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, labeling it both unlawful and devoid of legitimacy. He asserts that there is no room for political opportunism within the party, characterizing Akpeki's self-proclaimed role as unacceptable. Dr. Oharume is a well-known entrepreneur in the transportation sector, particularly recognized for his operations in major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Georgia, and Dallas, Texas. He is the owner of one of the fastest-growing African-American enterprises and serves as the President and Executive Director of several companies, including Omena and Izomabeleon LLC, Ohabiz International LLC, and Alampo International Logistics, Haulage, and Freight. In the political realm, Dr. Oharume has demonstrated a robust commitment to public service. He was a prominent chairmanship candidate for the Sapele Local Government Council representing the Democratic People's Party during the 2011/2012 elections. Furthermore, he founded multiple organizations aimed at fostering youth leadership and political engagement, including Delta Never Too Young to Lead and the Delta Youths Rainbow Movement, and he currently coordinates the Agbarhoyovwi Unity Alliance. Dr. Oharume's political endeavors include an attempt to secure the Delta Central Senatorial seat in 2013, where he competed against notable figures such as Chief Ede Dafinone and Chief Napoleon Igbinije. Although he finished fourth in that primary election, he did not deter in his ambitions; in 2014, he successfully secured the Labor Party's nomination for the Ughelli North Constituency 2, defeating an incumbent assembly member. Despite achieving widespread victory in the 2015 general elections, he claimed that his electoral mandate was unjustly revoked during the official results announcement. As a prominent member of the APC in Delta State, Dr. Oharume has voiced strong opposition to Chief Akpeki's recent appointment. He asserts that this decision contradicts not only the rules of the APC constitution but also the principles of democracy. Dr. Oharume, who campaigned for the Ughelli North State House of Assembly seat in the 2023 elections, has utilized his extensive experience to advocate for integrity and adherence to due process within the party. He has urged Chief Akpeki to respect established protocols and avoid actions that could incite unrest within the APC. Dr. Oharume condemned Akpeki's ascension to acting chairmanship as a significant violation of party guidelines, stating that Akpeki has no legal mandate to preside over the chairmanship while there is a Deputy Chairman, Chief Francis Obigbor, already in office. He emphasized that the APC constitution provides explicit provisions regarding such appointments, which are being disregarded in this case. Citing Article 14.2(iii) of the APC constitution, Dr. Oharume clarified that while national-level succession involves both Deputy National Chairmen, this does not correlate to the state level, where a single Deputy Chairman exists. Therefore, he concludes that Akpeki's claim to the acting chairmanship is a breach of party regulations. Dr. Oharume criticized the Delta State chapter’s State Working Committee (SWC) for their decision, which he believes undermines the foundational principles of the party and poses a serious threat to its cohesion. He suggested that the SWC’s failure to adhere to Articles 14.2(i) and (ii) reveals either a lack of comprehension of party doctrines or a deliberate misinterpretation of them. He further stressed that the SWC's actions could destabilize the internal harmony of the APC, arguing that rather than promoting unity and preparedness for future challenges, this appointment would likely result in division and distrust among party members. In his address, Dr. Oharume was keen to remind members that Chief Francis Obigbor is the rightful acting chairman in the absence of Elder Omeni Sobotie, the substantive chairman currently on medical leave. He denounced comments made by Valentine Onojeghuo, the State Publicity Secretary of APC Delta, as misleading and aimed at causing confusion—a reflection of irresponsibility in political conduct. While recognizing Chief Akpeki's role as the Chairman of the Delta Central Senatorial District, Dr. Oharume called for compliance with party regulations, emphasizing that only Chief Francis Obigbor should serve as the acting chairman during Elder Sobotie's absence, as stated in the APC Constitution. Dr. Oharume urged APC members to collectively denounce Chief Akpeki and his associates, highlighting the importance of unity and strict adherence to the party's constitutional framework for the continued success of the APC.

Opening Remarks by the Chairman, Dr. Festus Goziem Okubor, at the 2024 HUMAN DIGNITY DAY LECTURE of the UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (UNAA) ASABA BRANCH Protocols and appreciation. It is with great honour and a deep sense of purpose that I welcome you all to this important gathering focused on a topic that is coined out of our alma mater's motto "To restore the dignity of man". It resonates at the very heart of our collective aspirations: Human Dignity as a Panacea for Socio-Economic Development in Nigeria. Today, we come together at a critical juncture in our nation’s journey. Nigeria, blessed with abundant natural resources and an indomitable spirit, faces socio-economic challenges that demand innovative solutions. As we navigate issues of insecurity, poverty, inequality, unemployment, and underdevelopment, we must recognize that the key to sustainable progress lies not merely in policies or programmes, but in prioritizing the inherent dignity of every Nigerian, as the founders of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka knew. Human dignity — the recognition that every individual, irrespective of status, ethnicity, gender, or belief, deserves respect and opportunities—must be the cornerstone of our development agenda. When dignity is upheld, people are empowered to unleash their potential, communities are uplifted, and a nation is transformed. This principle speaks directly to the foundation of equity, justice, and inclusivity. When we invest in education, healthcare, decent jobs, and social protection, we affirm dignity. When we address corruption, promote accountability, and create systems that work for all, we reaffirm the value of every Nigerian. As we deliberate today, let us challenge ourselves to explore practical ways to integrate human dignity into our socio-economic strategies. Let us envision a Nigeria where every individual can thrive with pride and contribute meaningfully to our shared future. Together, we can build a nation where dignity is not just a value but a lived reality—one that fosters unity, prosperity, and hope for generations to come. Thank you for your time and dedication to this cause. I look forward to fruitful discussions and actionable outcomes. Thank you. 30.11.2024

Nigeria at 64: A Nation in Despair Under Tinubu's Administration - CNBN By Abiodun Gladys Point-blank Magazine Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 In a striking address, Concerned Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN) painted a dismal picture of the nation’s current state, labelling Nigerians as "living corpses" under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This remark was made during a press conference held in Abuja to mark the country’s 64th independence anniversary. The convener, Olorogun Godwin Obire, noted, "Nigeria, a country with immense potential, is wrestling with serious socio-economic and security challenges. While we celebrate our independence, we must also confront the grim realities that overshadow it." Obire expressed that no patriotic Nigerian, whether at home or abroad, could be satisfied with the progress made under the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. He emphasized, "Nigeria is a land of diversity and resilience, yet the policies of the current administration are devoid of compassion and humanity." He lamented the lack of achievements, saying, "There is little to celebrate as we confront the economic despair inflicted by misguided policies of the government." The CNBN pointed to alarming indicators of failure under the current administration, including issues of security, food production, education, and healthcare. Obire remarked, "Nigerians are dependent on imported goods for their daily needs, from bread to basics like toothpicks." The group urged the Tinubu-led administration to reassess its policies, which they claim have exacerbated the plight of the citizens. Obire stated, "Had the APC shown humility and addressed the growing hardships, the planned nationwide protests on October 1 might have been avoided." He reflected on past attempts to counsel the government, expressing frustration at the lack of response. "There is hunger and destitution across the country, and the reaction of a desperate populace is unimaginable. Mr. President, the time to act is now." Obire raised concerns about the alleged recruitment of armed individuals by the APC to prevent protests, highlighting the administration's insensitivity to the staggering reality that over 120 million Nigerians are living in destitution, with a poverty rate soaring above 70 percent. The group's narrative continued with Obire criticizing the abrupt policies that have crippled the economy, such as the sudden increase in fuel prices and the arbitrary floating of the Naira. "Any people-oriented government would recognize the detrimental effects of such hastily implemented policies," he said. Additionally, CNBN claimed that the APC administration's reckless decisions have severely impacted the nation's productive sector, leading to a dramatic increase in prices and job losses. "With inflation exceeding 70 percent and unemployment rates surpassing 65 percent, Nigerians are facing unprecedented economic challenges." The CNBN also decried the humanitarian crisis penetrating the country, noting exorbitant prices for basic necessities: "A bag of rice sells for over N105,000, beans for N200,000, and cooking oil costs N12,000," they reported. Amidst these struggles, Obire criticized government officials for their lavish spending while citizens starve. He pointed out that the administration continues to pay massive sums as fuel subsidies, contradicting the President's previous announcements to end such practices. The CNBN called for comprehensive action from President Tinubu to address these critical issues. They demanded transparency regarding the alleged mismanagement of funds and urged a reassessment of government expenditures on luxury items in favor of essential needs for citizens. As the protests unfolded on this significant date, the group encouraged Nigerians to engage peacefully within the limits of the law in pursuit of good governance. "Patriotism requires action, and we urge all citizens to voice their demands for a better Nigeria," Obire concluded. |
