Father's Day: Senator Prince Ned Nwoko Urges Fathers to Honour Wives, Children

By Jerry Oghenerunor,

Punch News, Sunday June 16.

In a heartfelt speech delivered during this year's Father's Day celebrations at the Redeem Christian Church of God Agbor in Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko called on fathers to prioritize honoring their wives and children as a means of building successful families in society. The senator, represented by his Aide on Legislative and Political Matters, Olorogun Godwin Obire, also emphasized the importance of understanding, supporting, bonding, and appreciating one's spouse and children at all times.

Senator Nwoko eloquently highlighted the responsibilities of husbands, stressing the need for men to nurture and defend their nuclear family members both physically and spiritually, safeguarding them from all forms of adversity. In a profound display of reciprocity, he also advised wives and children to sincerely respect and obey their husbands and fathers.

Expressing deep gratitude to the Almighty for His boundless mercies, Senator Ned Nwoko urged the congregation to consistently acknowledge the Lord's goodness in order to attract even greater blessings. His message carried a profound sense of hope and unity, conveying his heartfelt wish for all fathers to experience a joyous celebration, divine protection, and good health as they continue to witness and celebrate future Father's Days.

During the sermon delivered by Pastor Fidelis Abedi, the importance of effective communication within the family unit was underscored. Drawing from various scriptures, including 1st Peter chapter 3 verse 7, Pastor Abedi fervently urged men to recognize the vulnerability of women as the "weaker vessels" and treat them with utmost respect, while assuming full responsibility for the upbringing and training of their children.

The words spoken by Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and the powerful sermon delivered by Pastor Fidelis Abedi left a lasting impact on the congregation, resonating as a powerful reminder of the crucial roles fathers play in their families and society. With Father's Day serving as a timely occasion for reflection and appreciation, it is hoped that the words of wisdom shared by these esteemed individuals will inspire fathers to embrace their responsibilities wholeheartedly, fostering love, respect, and unity within their families and communities.

A Letter of Gratitude and Blessings to Dr. Festus Goziem Okubor: A Political Father with a Heart of Gold.

Dear Dr. Festus Goziem Okubor

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and guidance in my political journey of life. Your role as my political father has been a beacon of light, guiding me through the murky waters of politics with wisdom and grace. As the Chief of Staff to a former Delta State governor and now the Chief Strategic Officer to the current Delta State governor, your leadership has been nothing short of exemplary.

Your kindhearted nature and generous spirit have touched the lives of many, and your genuine desire to see everyone around you succeed is truly inspiring. I pray that God blesses you abundantly for all that you do for humanity. Your actions mirror those of great men in the Bible who displayed excellent political leadership with the fear of God Almighty.

Just as Joseph rose to a position of power in Egypt through his integrity, wisdom, and faith in God, your leadership exemplifies these qualities. May God continue to bless you with wisdom and discernment as you navigate the complexities of politics with grace and humility.

Like Daniel, who stood firm in his faith and principles despite facing immense challenges, may you continue to uphold your values and principles in the face of adversity. Your unwavering commitment to serving the people of Delta State with honesty and integrity sets you apart as a rare gem in the world of politics.

As King Solomon was known for his wisdom and ability to lead with compassion and justice, may you too be guided by these virtues in your role as a political leader. May your decisions be just and fair, benefiting all those under your care.

Lastly, I pray for your protection and well-being, just as David sought refuge in the Lord during times of trouble. May God surround you and your family with His love and protection, shielding you from harm and guiding your steps along the right path.

Dr. Festus Okubor, your dedication to serving the people of Delta State with humility and compassion is a testament to your character and integrity. May your legacy be one of honor and respect, and may your good works continue to inspire others to lead with compassion and kindness.

With heartfelt appreciation and blessings,

Olorogun Godwin Obire

Obire Clears Air on Nwoko's Anioma State Creation Bill, Emphasizes Regional Labels as Political Geography, Deems Them Irrelevant

Punch News

Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Aide to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko on legislative and political matters, Olorogun Godwin Obire, has addressed the misconceptions surrounding the Ned Nwoko Anioma State Creation Bill in the National Assembly.

Speaking to the press in Asaba, Obire stated that some political distractors, who were unable to sponsor any bills themselves, were underground sponsoring and spreading misinformation about the proposed bill for the creation of Anioma State. He called out their lack of contribution and accused them of viewing Anioma people as a television set, with themselves as the remote control.

While Obire welcomed constructive criticism, he emphasized the need to focus on the actualization of Anioma State and the legislative and legal framework provided by Senator Ned's bill. He clarified that the agitation for Anioma State has existed long before Senator Ned's tenure and that the regional labels are irrelevant to the substance of the matter.

Obire further explained that the struggle for Anioma State began in 1980 and was championed by figures like Senator Nosike Ikpo. Originally consisting of four local governments, Anioma now comprises nine. However, the bar on the creation of new states has hindered its progress.

According to Obire, Anioma's request for statehood is not just Senator Ned's request but the request of the Anioma people themselves. They have previously presented their case to former President Obasanjo and have been advocating for the creation of Anioma State for a long time.

Obire concluded by praising Senator Ned for providing a legislative and legal framework to expedite the creation of Anioma State. He urged people to focus on the substance of the matter rather than getting caught up in regional labels and political geography. The aim is to create Anioma State, which is what truly matters.

It is important to note that Anioma was supposed to have been created in January 1994, but due to political events, the process was halted. However, the determination for the creation of Anioma State remains strong, and Senator Ned's bill aims to provide the necessary framework for its achievement.

Senator Prince Ned Nwoko Felicitates With Constituents on Democracy Day

By Timothy Fenfe

Today, June 12, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, the representative of Delta north senatorial district in Delta state at the red chamber, extends his heartfelt felicitations to his constituents and Nigerians as a whole on the occasion of democracy day. Through his aide on legislative and political matters, Olorogun Godwin Obire, Senator Ned Nwoko commended the people for their continuous support and contributions to the growth and development of the Anioma nation.

In a statement marking the democracy day, Senator Ned Nwoko highlighted the importance of safeguarding and strengthening the country's nascent democracy. He emphasized the need for leaders to move beyond mere rhetoric and focus on finding practical solutions to the challenges of governance, in order to ensure the sustainability of the hard-earned democracy.

"Reinventing the wheel of governance is crucial in driving our country to the Promised Land. We must engage in discussions that provide solutions to the problems threatening the unity of our nation," Senator Ned Nwoko expressed.

Furthermore, the Senator called on Nigerians, especially the residents of Delta north senatorial district, to unite and work together for the preservation of democracy, emphasizing that despite its challenges, democracy remains the most effective system of governance.

As Nigeria celebrates the seamless transition of democratic government from one administration to another, Senator Ned Nwoko reminds the citizens of their individual responsibility in building a just and egalitarian society. He pays tribute to all patriotic Nigerians who have made sacrifices to ensure the celebration of democracy day, stating that "despite the challenges our nation faces, we must remain resolute in keeping the dreams of our founding fathers alive."

The Senator urges all citizens to look to the future with hope and support the efforts of the government at all levels in securing a united and prosperous nation.

It is noteworthy that the significance of June 12 as democracy day stems from the historic presidential election held on June 12, 1993, which was won by Chief M.K.O. Abiola. The election, widely regarded as free and fair, was annulled by the military government, leading to significant protests and demonstrations for the restoration of democracy. Recognizing the importance of this date, President Muhammadu Buhari declared June 12 as democracy day to honor the memory of Chief M.K.O. Abiola and to emphasize the unity and progress of the country.

Senator Prince Ned Nwoko Proposes Bill for Creation of Anioma State

By Femi Olayemi

In a press conference held in Asaba, Senator Ned Nwoko addresses the proposed bill for the creation of Anioma state. This bill aims to rectify the existing imbalance in South East's representation.

Speaking on behalf of the senator, Olorogun Godwin Obire, the senior legislative aide on legislative and political matters, emphasizes the urgency and necessity of the proposed bill. He asserts that the geopolitical distribution of states in Nigeria has long suffered from an imbalance, which the bill seeks to address.

Obire highlights that the South East geopolitical zone currently has five states, with the exception of the North West, which has seven states. This disparity results in an unequal representation and resource allocation, as the South East has only 15 lawmakers compared to the 18 lawmakers from other zones in the Senate.

He further emphasizes that this inequity perpetuates a longstanding injustice, affecting both legislative representation and the distribution of national resources.

Obire announces that Senator Nwoko will present a bill on the national assembly floor to rectify this historical oversight and restore justice. The bill advocates for the creation of Anioma state, consisting of nine local government areas, six of which possess significant oil and gas resources. The region also boasts a substantial human capital, making it a suitable candidate for statehood.

The proposed bill is not simply a means to increase the number of states but rather to ensure fair representation and resource allocation for the South East, according to Obire.

He highlights that the call for Anioma state has garnered support from various stakeholders, including the Anioma socio-cultural group, Izu Anioma, and the Pan Igbo cultural organization, Ohanaeze Indi Igbo. Additionally, political leaders in Anioma, such as the late Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien, and the Obi of Owa Kingdom, HRM Obi Emmanuel Efeizomor II, have consistently advocated for the creation of Anioma state. They have engaged in numerous discussions, including conversations with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to express their collective support.

Obire concludes by stating that Senator Nwoko's bill for the creation of Anioma state is a pivotal step towards achieving justice and equity for the South East. With significant support from key stakeholders, the time has come to take action and bring Anioma state into existence, rectifying past imbalances and ensuring fair representation in national affairs.

We have been made aware of a Facebook post by an individual using the name Balogun Wasiu Shanta. This person, who we suspect is the pharaoh of Delta North politics, is attempting to assert his dominance over the Delta North senatorial district as the political leader, which goes against the wishes of the majority of the Anioma people. The post, which is full of false information and sponsored by the pharaoh himself, is titled "HAS DELTA NORTH FELT THE IMPACTS OF Senator Ned Nwoko IN HIS FIRST YEAR AS THE SENATOR REPRESENTING THE GOOD PEOPLE OF DELTA NORTH IN THE RED CHAMBER?" This question is a feeble attempt at spreading misinformation and deception.

By asking such a foolish question, Balogun and the pharaoh of Delta North politics have proven that they are uninformed about the responsibilities of a legislator and ignorant about the effective representation provided by Senator Ned at the national assembly. They are also unaware of the numerous developments that Senator Ned's representation has brought about for the advancement of the Delta North senatorial district and Nigeria as a whole.

Normally, I would not dignify the ignorance, rants, and misleading information of Balogun and the pharaoh with a response. However, as a responsive and responsible senior legislative aide to Senator Ned, who values accountability, I will do so in the interest of the public, specifically the good people of Delta North senatorial district. Perhaps, this is an opportunity for the critics to be educated and liberated from their childishness.

There is no comparison between Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and anyone else in Delta North. No amount of blackmail or propaganda can change this fact. The evidence is there for everyone to see. Senator Ned came prepared to represent Delta North in the National Assembly since he assumed office as Senator in June 2023, He has made his Anioma constituents proud, displaying remarkable competence and charisma while addressing important issues in the red chambers. His impact goes well beyond political rhetoric.

Senator Nwoko has initiated the empowerment of 260 youths and women through a skills acquisition program in Asaba, the capital of Delta and the heartland of Anioma. Each beneficiary received 150,000 Naira, providing them with opportunities for poverty alleviation and wealth creation. He has also provided relief to over one thousand people in the Delta North senatorial district through the direct implementation of the federal government's social welfare program, with each recipient receiving 50,000 Naira.

Senator Ned is one of the most quoted Senators in the 10th National Assembly, leading in the number of motions presented on the floor. His advocacy efforts cover a wide range of issues, including sanctions against crude oil theft, rehabilitation of infrastructure such as the Asaba-Benin road and East-West expressway, gas flaring and compensation, security surveillance against kidnappers, peaceful resolution of conflicts, and the fight against transatlantic slave trade and colonialism.

Other motions and bills moved, submitted, and proposed by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko include:

1. The need to demand reparations for historical injustices and mitigate neocolonialism in Nigeria and African nations.
2. The need for redress, healing, and reconciliation for the grievous 1967 Asaba Massacre.
3. The need to investigate the incessant and nefarious acts of crude oil thefts in the Niger Delta and its actors.
4. The urgent need for African nations to attain veto power at the United Nations Security Council.
5. The need for the establishment of social media platform offices in Nigeria for economic advancement and efficient dispute resolution.
6. The urgent action needed to fortify security and tackle the surge of kidnappings in the FCT, following the tragic abduction of 19 individuals in Galadimawa.
7. The urgent need to stop gas flaring and enforce anti-gas flaring regulations in Ndokwa Land and the Niger Delta Region.
8. The need to upgrade all Federal Medical Centers in Nigeria to international standards and for all public servants to seek medical treatment exclusively within Nigerian healthcare facilities.
9. The compelling need to ban the importation of all non-essential goods and locally producible items in Nigeria.
10. The urgent need for a national dialogue with separatist groups in Nigeria to genuinely and amicably resolve all issues.
11. The need to address the unexplained delay of electricity supply in Ndokwa Land and the step-down of Okpai Independent Power Plant.
12. The urgent need to discourage any military intervention in Niger Republic by ECOWAS (drafted but not moved).
13. The urgent need to end compulsory police reports before emergency medical treatment (also drafted, but another senator submitted it before us).
14. The urgent action required to address the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict (time-bound, but not moved).

The following bills have also been proposed by Senator Ned Nwoko:

1. A bill to establish the Nigerian Youth Entrepreneurship Grant Program with an agency for oversight.
2. A bill to establish the Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency.
3. The One-Month Rent Limitation and Landlord Registry Act.
4. The Electoral Courts Establishment and Jurisdiction Act.
5. The Compulsory Professional Indemnity Act.
6. The Banks' Capitalization and Cashless Asset Acquisition Act.
7. The Self-Defense and Firearm Ownership Regulation Act.
8. A bill to repeal the Coroners Act CAP C17 laws of the Federal 2004 and re-enact the Coroners Systems Act and other related matters in 2023.
9. A bill to establish laws governing the election of Nigerians into the ECOWAS Parliament.
10. The Diaspora Voting Bill.
11. The Act Establishing the Parliamentary Governance System.
12. A bill to amend Sections 7, 162, and the Fourth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (Local Government Autonomy).
13. A bill to alter the National Health Act, 2014 (as altered) to provide for a mandatory donor card and related matters.
14. A draft bill for Factoring Assignments (Establishment, ETC) 2023.

In the national assembly, Senator Nwoko has proven to be a powerful voice on critical national issues, such as environmental degradation, health, employment, education, and infrastructure needs. He has championed a bill on voting rights for Nigerians in the diaspora, as well as permanent seats for them in both chambers of the National Assembly. This is an incredibly patriotic move, as it allows Africa's largest democracy to enable its diaspora population, which has made significant contributions to the economy, to participate in national elections.

On November 28, 2023, Senator Nwoko introduced a bill for the establishment of the Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency. This bill is a testament to his selfless humanitarian efforts and his role as a leading environmentalist. Despite being a first-time senator, Senator Ned is highly respected and serves on 19 strategic committees, a level of trust that is unprecedented due to his tremendous capacity.

He is the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and also holds membership in other committees including NDDC, NEPAD, TETFUND, Gas, Upstream Petroleum, Works, Finance, Defence, Police, Drugs and Narcotics, Communications, State and Local Governments, Primary Health Care Development and Disease Control, Constitutional Amendment, Anti-corruption and Economic crimes, Youth and Sports.

Senator Nwoko's impact on the Senate so far is extraordinary. Apart from the golden era of late Senator Nosike Ikpo in the second republic, no other senator from Delta North has made such an impressive showing as Ned Nwoko. He is an exemplary figure, offering excellent representation to the Anioma people with integrity and honor, overshadowing the embarrassing scandals and perpetual ridicule that marked the past.

Senator Ned Nwoko has revived the lost glory of Anioma land, and the people are happy from all corners. It is just the beginning of his tenure, and a bright future awaits the people of Delta North with this illustrious senator.

We have been made aware of a Facebook post by someone named Balogun Wasiu Shanta, who is using a fake name to represent the pharaoh figure in Delta North politics. This post attempts to assert the everlasting dominance of the pharaoh over the Delta North senatorial district, against the wishes of the majority of Anioma people. The post, sponsored by the pharaoh himself, is filled with baseless falsehoods.

The post, titled "HAS DELTA NORTH FELT THE IMPACTS OF Senator Ned Nwoko IN HIS FIRST YEAR AS THE SENATOR REPRESENTING THE GOOD PEOPLE OF DELTA NORTH IN THE RED CHAMBER?", is an attempt at childish mischief and disinformation.

By posing the question of whether Delta North has felt the impact of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko in his first year as senator, Balogun and the pharaoh have shown their lack of knowledge about legislative duties and Senator Ned's effective representation. They are also ignorant of the numerous developments brought about by Senator Ned's representation for the advancement of Delta North senatorial district and Nigeria as a whole.

Normally, Balogun and the pharaoh's ignorance, ranting, and misleading information on the public space do not deserve a response. However, as a responsible senior legislative aide to the Distinguished Senator, who values accountability, I will proceed to address them for the sake of the public, especially the good people of Delta North senatorial district. Perhaps, this is where the critics need to be educated and delivered from their infantile mindset.

There is no comparison between Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and anyone in Delta North. No amount of blackmail or propaganda can change this fact. The evidence is available for all to see. Senator Ned Nwoko arrived at the Nigeria Senate well-prepared in June 2023 to represent Delta North at the National Assembly. He is making his Anioma constituents proud with his impactful presence in the red chambers. He addresses profound issues with penetrating insight and charismatic energy. His impact goes beyond mere political rhetoric.

Senator Nwoko initiated a skills acquisition program for 250 youths and women in Asaba, the capital of Delta and the heartland of Anioma. Each beneficiary received #150,000 as part of a poverty alleviation and wealth creation scheme. He also provided assistance to over a thousand people in Delta North through the direct implementation of conditional cash transfer under the federal government's social welfare program.

Senator Ned is one of the most quoted senators of the 10th National Assembly. He leads in the articulation of the highest number of motions on the floor, demonstrating his active advocacy. These motions and views cover various important topics, including sanctions against crude oil theft, rehabilitation of major roads, gas flaring, security surveillance, peaceful resolution of conflicts, and addressing historical injustices, among others.

Senator Ned has also proposed and submitted several bills, such as those related to youth entrepreneurship, waste management, electoral courts, professional indemnity, firearm ownership regulations, and healthcare standards, among others.

At the National Assembly, Senator Nwoko is a strong voice on critical national issues concerning degradation, health, employment, education, and infrastructure. He champions the voting rights of Nigerians in the diaspora and permanent seats for them in both chambers of the National Assembly. This move allows millions of diasporic Nigerians to finally have a say in their nation's leadership, recognizing their contributions to the economy.

On November 28, 2023, Senator Nwoko proposed a bill for the establishment of a Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency, showcasing his selfless dedication to humanitarian efforts and environmental causes. Despite being a first-time senator, he holds membership in 19 strategic committees, a testament to his tremendous capabilities.

Senator Ned Nwoko has brought back the lost glory of Anioma land. The people are happy and hopeful for the future. It is only the beginning of his tenure in the Senate, and a bright future awaits the people of Anioma.

On a recent occasion, the village of Usiefurun came alive as the community gathered in large numbers to witness this empowering event. Gelor emphasized that his visits to the village are not limited to election periods, but he consistently checks on the well-being of the community and seeks ways to share common resources. This highlights his commitment to genuine service and equitable distribution of resources.

Gelor firmly believes that the true dividend of democracy lies in the fair distribution of resources, ensuring that a large percentage of the population benefits. His aim in entering politics is not to amass personal wealth overnight, but to use the privileges of his office to effect practical change in people's lives. The highlight of the event was the appointment of 13 Ambassadors with monthly salaries and the provision of stipends to 50 elderly community members, specifically grandparents, to experience the benefits of Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori's administration.

By using his office to empower individuals and engage in beneficial initiatives, Gelor not only serves as an exceptional representative of the Sheriff administration but also paves the way for positive transformation within the government. This further underscores the importance of recognizing Gelor's efforts and promoting his exemplary actions to inspire others in government to follow suit.

No Vacancy in Delta North Senatorial Seat in 2027: Senator Prince Ned Nwoko Returns for Good Governance and Legislation, Says Godwin Obire

By Emeka Obiazi

Punch Newspaper

Asaba - In a press briefing held in Asaba today, Olorogun Godwin Obire, the Special Advisor on Legislative and Political Matters to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, announced that Senator Nwoko will be seeking re-election in 2027 to the Red Chamber. His goal is to ensure justice for all Nigerians and to enact effective laws to govern the country, among other important issues.

Obire, the political strategist, sternly informed those vying to replace Senator Prince Ned Nwoko in Delta North that there will be no vacancy in the senatorial seat in 2027.

Specifically, Obire taunted the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its chieftains in Delta North, accusing them of sponsoring propaganda and carrying out a campaign to undermine the distinguished senator's effective representation in the Red Chamber.

Speaking to the press, Obire said that the opposition and its chieftains were fearful of future electoral losses after being defeated across the senatorial district in the last general election.

He said, "Their fears are founded on the fact that Senator Ned Nwoko is gaining popularity. Our political family is growing with the addition of new entrants and this is causing great apprehension for them. They are already eyeing 2027, but at that time, there will be no vacancy. Only our Senator, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, will, by God's grace, continue as the Senator of the Delta North Senatorial District."

Obire urged supporters of Ned Nwoko to disregard what he referred to as insignificant politicians. He said, "Therefore, I urge you to remain committed to our political family so that our party can continue to move forward." Obire concluded.

On this joyous occasion, I humbly request your presence in prayers as I celebrate my birthdate. As I give thanks to God for the precious gift of life and His ever-present guidance, I draw strength and hope from the words of Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." May this verse serve as a prophetic declaration over my life, instilling in me a sense of hope and unwavering faith in God's divine plans.

Today, amidst the merriment, I also find solace and reflection in the verses of Psalm 20:4-5: "May God almighty fulfill all my desires and plans! May I rejoice greatly in my salvation, and in the name of our God, proudly raise my banners! May the Lord answer all my prayers!" May these words become a heartfelt prayer that brings joy and fulfillment, leading me towards the desires of my heart as I embrace the journey ahead.

As I embark on this new chapter of my life, I hold close to my heart the words of Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." May I find everlasting peace and comfort in the presence of God, knowing that He lovingly carries my burdens and hears my prayers.

I also find strength in the words of Isaiah 43:19, "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Let me embrace the new beginnings and opportunities that God is revealing to me, placing my trust in His promises and allowing His divine guidance to lead me on a path of greatness and blessings.

As I celebrate this special day, my heart overflows with gratitude for the abundant blessings and love that surround me. I am reminded of the words of Psalm 118:24, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." I rejoice in the precious gift of life, the love of my cherished family and friends, and the unwavering presence of God, who walks alongside me every step of the way.

May this birthday serve as a testament to God's unwavering faithfulness and grace in my life, a shining example of His boundless love and mercy. With every step I take, I strive to radiate as a beacon of light and hope, spreading love and kindness wherever I go.

On this momentous day, I humbly offer prayers of gratitude and blessings upon myself. May the divine light of God illuminate my path, may my heart overflow with a peace that surpasses all understanding, and may my life be an undeniable testimony of God's goodness and greatness. Happy birthday to me!

Glory be to God for the precious gift of me to the world and for the incredible journey of greatness that lies ahead. Amen.

Rescuers' Negligence Leads to Death of Junior Pope

By Godwin Obire

Rescuers Fail to Administer First Aid Before Hospital Transport, Resulting in Tragic Outcome

If someone is drowned in water, it is important to administer immediate first aid treatment before transporting them to the hospital. Firstly, the rescuers should carefully remove the person from the water. As soon as they bring the person out of the water, they should lay them on their back and begin the process of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

The first step is to place both hands on the person's chest, in the center between the nipples, and perform chest compressions. Press down firmly, at least 2 inches in depth, at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. This helps to stimulate the heart and blood circulation.

Next, the rescuer should tilt the person's head back and lift the chin up to open their airway. Then, they can pinch the person's nose shut and make a tight seal with their mouth over the person's mouth. By blowing into their mouth, the rescuer delivers rescue breaths to oxygenate the person's lungs.

It is also crucial to press on the person's stomach just below the ribcage with quick and forceful inward and upward thrusts. This action, called the Heimlich maneuver or abdominal thrusts, can help to expel any water or foreign objects that may be blocking the person's airway.

After performing these initial steps, it is vital to provide the person with enough space for fresh air. This can be achieved by moving them to an open area or a well-ventilated space. It is important to continue monitoring their breathing, pulse, and overall condition until professional medical help arrives.

Only trained medical professionals should decide when it is safe to transport the person to the hospital. In some cases, the person may begin breathing on their own and regain consciousness. Nonetheless, it is essential for medical professionals to assess their condition and provide further medical treatment as necessary.

Politics › Progress And Prospects On Onicha-olona Illegal Arms Factory By Senator Prince Ne by Details0987(op): 8:54am On Apr 11, 2024
Progress and Prospects on Onicha-Olona Illegal Arms Factory

Following my recent visit to Headquarters 63 Brigade, Asaba, and productive discussions with the Brigade Commander, I am pleased to announce progress in addressing the situation regarding the illegal arms factory discovered in Onicha-Olona community, Delta State.

Efforts have been made to ensure fair treatment for those involved, balancing justice with the opportunity for rehabilitation and contribution to society. I am pleased to reveal that through collaborative efforts, I have successfully secured the release of four family members implicated in the illegal activity. However, our commitment to upholding the law remains unwavering, and endeavors continue for fair judgment and potential pardon for the remaining four individuals.

Moreover, the underlying issue highlighted by this discovery remains of paramount importance. We must seize the opportunity to redirect the talents demonstrated by those involved towards lawful and productive endeavors. The young man in the family, known for his passion and ability to build drones, exemplifies this potential. His skills should be harnessed and put to good use.

The Industrial Revolution serves as a pertinent historical precedent, where individual efforts catalyzed transformative change, made possible by governments that created conducive environments. We can emulate this model here. We can provide support and opportunities for talented individuals like the young drone builder, and stimulate a new wave of innovation and economic growth in Nigeria.

As previously stated, Nigeria's economy faces significant challenges exacerbated by escalating imports, particularly in the realm of arms and weaponry. Therefore, it is imperative that we harness our indigenous talents for the greater good and bolster our local industries.

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), as well as the Ministry of Science and Technology have crucial roles to play in this regard. By engaging with individuals possessing such skills, we can offer them legal avenues for their expertise to flourish. The aim is not only to prevent the proliferation of illegal arms or other weapons manufacturing but also to channel these talents towards legitimate industries for national development.

I reiterate the need for government to support and integrate such offenders with specialized skills and talents into the formal economy. This initiative should focus on recognizing their capabilities and providing opportunities for them to contribute to the development of our local indigenous technology. As noted earlier, an individual capable of modifying an AK-47 magazine, originally designed to hold 30 rounds, to accommodate 60 rounds using rudimentary equipment, holds immense potential for greater achievements with proper legal support and access to adequate resources.

Personally, I am committed to proposing or supporting a new law aimed at assisting talented and skillful individuals involved in illegal activities and also partner with law enforcement agencies in these endeavors. They have the intelligence and insights of the potential beneficiaries of this “amnesty” drive towards creating a new cadre of indigenous technologists. This law would establish an agency dedicated to providing government support and resources to rehabilitate and engage these individuals in legal and productive activities.

I tentatively suggest naming this proposed law the "National Talent Rehabilitation and Integration Act." This legislation would not only focus on rehabilitation but also on harnessing the skills and talents of offenders for the benefit of society. By providing a structured environment and necessary support, this agency would facilitate the transition of individuals from illicit activities to lawful and productive ventures, contributing to both their personal rehabilitation and national development.

Promise Ogumu: Omo-Agege's Homecoming, a Well-Deserved Celebration for Deltans

By Maria Udofia

Monday, April 8, 2024

Delta State - Months after he left office as the Deputy Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olorogun Ovie Omo Agege, the Obarisi of Urhobo land, dressed in his customary Urhobo attire, arrived in Delta, specifically Ugehelli North Local Government Area of the state, to a grand welcome by his kinsmen, politicians, friends, and top functionaries of the federal government.

Human movement came to a standstill at Osubi Airport shortly after his arrival, as he was accompanied by a host of politicians, including his long-standing brother, friend, and political ally, Distinguished Senator Peter Nwanboshi, Promise Ogumu, and many others who were all present at the airport to welcome the influential and formidable Delta State APC political leader. Due to the massive crowd, his entourage could not disembark upon arrival, resulting in a delay of over four hours before they could finally make their way through the crowds of villagers, political associates, and friends.

As Ovie Omo Agege's convoy traveled from Osubi to Ugehelli, the venue of the homecoming reception, thousands of Deltans lined the road, waving enthusiastically and expressing their joy. As early as 8 am on Saturday, a crowd of Deltans had gathered at the reception venue in Ugehelli, eagerly awaiting Ovie Omo Agege's arrival from Osubi. Shortly after his arrival, the mammoth crowd erupted in cheers.

Speaking to news reporters at the venue, Mr. Promise Ogumu, former Ika North East House of Assembly aspirant under the platform of the All Progressive's Congress (APC) and CEO of Prodan Global Consolidated Properties Ltd, stated that Omo-Agege's homecoming is a testament to his political power in Delta, evident by the overwhelming number of Deltans who came out to welcome their leader.

According to Promise Ogumu, Omo-Agege's homecoming is a well-deserved celebration for Deltans. He emphasized that there is no politician, both dead and alive, in the history of Delta State with a political record that rivals Omo Agege's in the history of Nigeria. He urged skeptics to check the records, as they are public knowledge. He stated, "Sentiments aside, there is no senator, from the first republic to the fourth republic, who has achieved what Agege has."

Promise Ogumu further stressed that, based on anecdotal evidence gleaned from National Assembly records, Omo-Agege holds the record as the most productive senator elected by Delta State, excelling in core legislative duties, constituency projects, and strategic political engagements. He highlighted Omo-Agege's accomplishments such as securing the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun for Urhoboland, establishing a campus of the Nigerian Law School, and the Nigerian Defence Space College, among others. He also pointed out that Omo-Agege ensured that the Ndokwa people have a federal institution and brought development projects to all three senatorial districts in Delta as a representative of Delta Central Senatorial district.

Ovie Omo Agege spearheaded the execution of over 80 significant educational and ICT infrastructure projects in schools across Delta State. These initiatives included the construction of new and renovated classrooms, state-of-the-art ICT facilities, provision of desks, computers, and sports equipment to enhance learning in schools. In order to improve access to primary healthcare, the former Deputy Senate President facilitated the provision and installation of dental and ophthalmological equipment to Mariere Memorial Central Hospital in Ughelli, as well as the construction of a primary healthcare center in Omavovwe-Agbarho.

In terms of human capital development and economic empowerment, Ovie Omo Agege successfully recommended the employment of Deltans from all senatorial districts as political aides, placing them in boards of federal parastatals, governing councils of tertiary institutions, ambassadorial positions, and other key political positions. With a focus on women and youth empowerment, the DSP facilitated the provision of hundreds of motorbikes, tricycles, sewing machines, and grinding machines. Additionally, he sponsored Deltans for federal intervention programs, including loans, grants, establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and skills acquisition training.

Furthermore, Promise Ogumu highlighted Ovie Omo Agege's role as the Chairman of the Senate Committee for the Review of the 1999 Constitution (CRC). Leading the submission of over 300 memoranda on various thematic areas of the exercise, Omo Agege ensured that all Nigerians had the opportunity to participate in the process of producing a constitution that is fair and satisfactory to all. He firmly believes that constitutional amendment is a fundamental principle of constitutionalism in a participatory democracy.

Prominently, Promise Ogumu declared, "Ovie Omo Agege is our hero, a hero defined as a person of distinguished courage and ability, admired for brave deeds." He explained that being a hero encompasses more than just bravery and ability; it involves the representation and image the hero portrays. Ogumu concluded by asserting that there is no one comparable to Ovie Omo Agege in the history of Delta State politics, citing his numerous achievements as evidence of his heroic status.

Ned Nwoko Impresses Constituents with Scorecard in Less Than One Year

By Godwin Obire

Wednesday, April 3, 2024

The following is the speech delivered by Senator Prince Ned Nwoko during a town hall meeting with constituents of the Delta North senatorial district at Orchid Hotel in Asaba on April 3, 2024.

First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and praise to God Almighty. Today, we have achieved a significant milestone in the representation given to me by the people of Delta North senatorial district and our great party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), less than a year ago, specifically on June 6, 2023. I sincerely thank each and every one of you for your invaluable support and the trust you have placed in me to be your voice in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

During my election campaigns, I made a promise to hold town hall meetings to update you on our activities in the Senate and to engage with you on ways to move our beloved state and Nigeria forward. I am pleased to inform you that this meeting with you, my esteemed constituents, is a fulfillment of that promise.

I am also thrilled to announce that earlier today, on April 3, 2024, our new constituency office in Asaba was officially commissioned. It is truly fitting that this town hall meeting takes place on the same day as the commissioning of our constituency office and as an opportunity for me to present a summary of our achievements in less than one year.

In the Senate, I serve on several committees, including Vice Chairman of the Environment, Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Capital Market, Sustainable Development Goals, Drugs and Narcotics, Solid Minerals, States and Local Governments, Rules and Business, Youths and Sports, Privatization, Primary Healthcare Development and Disease Control, Legislative Compliance, Communication, and Constitutional Amendment.

These committees play a crucial role in addressing the challenges of widespread poverty, high unemployment rates, crime, insecurity, limited access to education, and inadequate healthcare in our society. We are working tirelessly to find solutions and bring about improvement in these areas.

In line with my commitment to addressing crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region and investigating those involved, I have initiated actions that have sparked a national response. The Senate has made significant progress in investigating crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism. To effectively address this issue, we must tackle the proliferation of illegal refineries in the region.

I have also presented various motions and sponsored bills as part of my legislative duties. These include motions on demanding reparations for historical injustices and neocolonialism in Nigeria and African nations, addressing the Asaba Massacre of 1967, investigating crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, and advocating for African nations to attain veto power at the United Nations Security Council, among others. Additionally, I have sponsored bills such as the Nigerian Youth Entrepreneurship Grant Program, Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency establishment, and the One-Month Rent Limitation and Landlord Registry Act.

Many of these motions and bills have passed the initial reading, indicating the recognition and resonance they have garnered. The diaspora voting bill, in particular, has received widespread attention as it has the potential to significantly impact Nigerian politics by involving Nigerians in the diaspora in the electoral process. I am also passionate about the establishment of a Waste Management and Eradication Malaria Agency, as it would provide improved solutions to the malaria epidemic in Africa, similar to how we tackled the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another crucial bill I have proposed is the amendment to the Firearms Act, which aims to empower citizens to responsibly defend themselves. With the increasing breakdown of law and order, rising kidnappings, and armed robberies in different parts of the country, it is imperative that we enhance the security of lives and properties. The bill includes stringent criteria to regulate the use of firearms, ensuring that individuals are well-trained, mentally fit, and of good character before acquiring a firearm.

I would like to clarify that as a Senator, my role is to enact legislation, engage in oversight functions, and ensure budgetary appropriations. While I do not possess the power to create employment directly, I support legislation and initiatives that promote job creation. I have submitted the names of many constituents to the National Directorate of Employment for vocational training and employment consideration in federal government agencies.

Furthermore, I have been appointed as a member of the Constitution Amendment Committee. This committee is currently reviewing memoranda from the public on various subjects, including devolution of powers, creation of states, role of traditional rulers, fiscal federalism, justiceability of social and economic rights, and gender issues. My goal is to advocate for true fiscal federalism and resolve issues surrounding the creation of additional local governments in Delta State.

In conclusion, I find it essential to engage and communicate with my constituents regularly, updating them on my activities and listening to their concerns and opinions. Through town hall meetings, like the one we are having today, I can assure my constituents that I am committed to effective representation. I have also established a liaison office in Asaba to bridge the gap between my constituents and myself.

Though we face numerous challenges, they are not insurmountable. With hard work, sacrifice, resilience, and perseverance, we can overcome these challenges. Together, as progressives, we can accomplish great things for our people.

Thank you all for your kind attention.

Long live PDP! Long live Delta North Senatorial District! Long live Delta State!

Long live our beloved country, Nigeria!

Calls for Continued Prayer for Security in the Country

By Godwin Obire, Abuja

Friday, March 29, 2024

Vice Chairman of the Senate Environment Committee, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Delta North, has called for peace, love, and tolerance among Nigerians in the spirit of Easter celebration.

In his Easter message, which he personally signed in Abuja, Senator Ned heartily felicitated Nigerians, the people of Delta State, and his constituents, particularly the Christians, as they join their brethren across the world in celebrating Easter.

Ned urged all Nigerians to pray for peace and security amidst seemingly intractable insecurity around Nigeria and an end to terrorism in the land.

According to him, Easter, which is the season of the remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, marks the trial, sacrifice, victory, and completion of the divine mandate of the author of the Christian faith.

The Senator appealed to all to practice the Christian virtues of sacrifice, patience, love, and abiding faith in order for us as Nigerians to have a better tomorrow, which has been symbolized in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

According to him, nations can be developed and grow bigger where Christian virtues of love, sacrifices for one another, patience, and hope for a better future are in place.

Senator Ned, who called on Nigerians to remain committed and faithful, stressed the need for all to continue to support President Tinubu administration's efforts in the challenge of building a better society that would be devoid of rampant insecurity, just as he prayed that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ will open a window for a better Nigeria with hard work and prayers.

Ned said, "As we celebrate the unique occasion, let us keep in mind the significance of the season, which is the perfect demonstration of sacrificial love to others. As the Lent ended in triumph, the season should also rekindle our hope of victory over personal and communal challenges.

"I pray that the triumph of Christ will encourage all people of faith to be hopeful of victory against trials and challenges, whether as individuals or as a nation.

"Our nation is faced with rampant insecurity from Boko Haram Insurgents, bandits' attacks, kidnapping, herders/farmers clashes that are not only affecting the economy and the progress of the nation but threatening its existence. I call on all to pray for peace and security during the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ," he said.

Transitioning from a Presidential System to a Parliamentary System: A Path to National Advancement

Your Excellency, President of the Senate, distinguished colleagues, and esteemed citizens of Nigeria. My name is Senator Munir Ned Nwoko, and I represent the people of Delta North senatorial district. I rise today to address a matter of paramount importance to our great nation—the need to review the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria with the aim of transitioning from the current presidential system of government to a parliamentary system. As we stand at this significant juncture in our nation's history, we have the opportunity to shape the future of governance in Nigeria for the betterment and advancement of our beloved nation.

Before delving into the details of a parliamentary system, it is imperative to acknowledge the challenges and limitations inherent in the current presidential system of government. It is clear that Nigeria's presidential system has, over the years, presented substantial governance obstacles, such as the concentration of power in the hands of a single individual, the potential for gridlock between the executive and legislative branches, and the limited accountability mechanisms for executive actions.

On the other hand, a parliamentary system offers numerous advantages that can address these inherent flaws and pave the way for a more effective, accountable, and stable governance structure. The essence of a parliamentary system lies in the fusion of the executive and legislative branches, where the head of government is drawn from the majority party in the legislature.

Under a parliamentary system, the head of government, typically the Prime Minister, is accountable to the parliament, creating a direct line of accountability between the executive and the legislature. This fosters greater cooperation and synergy between the two branches, mitigating the potential for political gridlock and ensuring the swift passage of crucial legislation for the benefit of our nation. Additionally, the parliamentary system emphasizes collective responsibility, as the cabinet members are drawn from the parliament, promoting unity and consensus in decision-making.

It is essential to note that many successful nations have embraced parliamentary systems, leading to stable governance, effective policymaking, and enhanced national development. Countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany serve as examples of the successful implementation of parliamentary systems, demonstrating their adaptability to diverse cultural and societal contexts.

Given the challenges faced by our current presidential system and the proven efficacy of parliamentary systems worldwide, it is our duty as representatives of the Nigerian people to earnestly consider the transition to a parliamentary system as a means of advancing our nation's governance structure. This transition aligns with our shared goal of fostering a more inclusive, accountable, and stable government, thereby laying the foundation for sustainable socio-economic development and progress.

In light of the foregoing, I propose the inclusion of specific constitutional amendments to facilitate the transition from a presidential to a parliamentary system of government. These amendments are intended to address critical components such as the structure of the executive, the relationship between the executive and legislative branches, and the mechanisms for electoral and governmental accountability.

1. Amend the constitution to abolish the direct election of a president and establish the position of Prime Minister, who will be appointed from the majority party in the parliament.

2. Strengthen the powers of the parliament in overseeing the executive branch, including the ability to pass votes of no confidence and hold the executive accountable for its actions.

3. Implement electoral reforms to ensure that parliamentary elections reflect the will of the people and enable the formation of a stable government based on majority support in the legislature.

4. Establish a clear and orderly transition process from the current presidential system to the proposed parliamentary system, taking into account the necessary institutional changes and safeguards.

Distinguished Senators, the transition from a presidential system to a parliamentary system represents a pivotal opportunity to chart a new course for Nigeria's governance, one that is founded on cooperation, accountability, and stability. By embracing this reform, we can address the shortcomings of the current system and build a more resilient and inclusive government that is responsive to the needs of our citizens. I urge all my esteemed colleagues to join hands in support of this progressive initiative and work collaboratively in shaping a brighter future for Nigeria.

Thank you.

CNBN Backs Ned Nwoko's Call to Amend 1999 Constitution for Parliamentary System in Nigeria

Saturday February 17, 2024.

Punch News

On Saturday, February 17, 2024, Punch News reported that the Concern Nigerians For Better Nigeria (CNBN) group, an advocacy organization dedicated to promoting democratic principles and good governance, is rallying support for Senator Prince Ned Nwoko's proposal to amend the 1999 constitution in order to transition to a parliamentary system of government in Nigeria. This call to action follows the introduction of bills by Senator Prince Ned Nwoko , which were supported by over 60 members of the National Assembly, seeking the alteration of the Constitution for a transition to a Parliamentary System. The group emphasized that their call aims to enhance accountability, inclusivity, and stability in the country’s governance structure.

The CNBN group highlighted the success of the parliamentary system of government, which was previously practiced in Nigeria before the military intervention in 1966, and has proven successful in various nations around the world, offering several advantages over the current presidential system. They expressed that by aligning with Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko and adopting a parliamentary system, Nigeria could achieve several benefits, including enhanced accountability, efficient oversight, reduced risk of corruption and unchecked power, inclusivity and representation, flexibility and responsiveness, and stable governance.

The group emphasized that the parliamentary system encourages the formation of coalition governments, ensuring that a broader range of voices and perspectives are represented in decision-making, thereby strengthening the democratic process and promoting more balanced governance. Additionally, they explained that the parliamentary system allows for swift decision-making and policy implementation, and the executive could be held accountable through votes of no confidence, ensuring responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people.

Furthermore, the group stressed that the parliamentary system provides stability, minimizing political gridlock and frequent changes in leadership, which creates an environment conducive to long-term planning and sustainable development. They urged elected lawmakers, civil society organizations, and the Nigerian public to join forces with Senator Ned Nwoko and other National Assembly members in advocating for the transition to a parliamentary system, emphasizing the importance of engaging in open dialogue, raising awareness, and collaborating to drive the necessary reforms.

The group concluded by expressing their belief that a parliamentary system of government will promote better governance, accountability, and representation in Nigeria. They also outlined their commitment to engaging the masses and critical stakeholders across the country to encourage active participation in the public discourse surrounding this issue and the involvement of elected representatives. The statement was jointly signed by Convener, Olorogun Godwin Obire; Co-convener, Dr. Ibrahim Ali; Diaspora Director, Engr. Emeka Uche; Policy Director, Osssai Nicolas; and National Secretary, Olufemi Adebayo.
