Delta State's Transformation Under Oborevwori: A Call for Unity and Support

In a compelling tribute to the transformative leadership of Delta State Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori Olorogun Godwin Obire, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Executive Assistant to the Governor, has praised the impressive strides made in various sectors across the state. During an interactive session with journalists at his Abuja residence, Obire elaborated on Governor Oborevwori's commitment to enhancing the lives of all Deltans through a comprehensive development agenda.

Obire highlighted "the governor’s unwavering focus on critical areas such as education, security, workers' welfare, environmental management, water supply, electricity provision, and the delivery of essential amenities. These initiatives signify a paradigm shift in governance, as Delta State has effectively become a nexus of ongoing projects aimed at improving the quality of life for its citizens across the three senatorial districts.

Pledging to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, Oborevwori has ensured that not one project has been left behind. This commitment underscores his resolve to be a keeper of promises, as exemplified by the award of contract for three flyovers to Julius Berger, underscoring his administration's dedication to delivering high-quality infrastructure that positions Delta State competitively with other states.

Obire expressed unwavering confidence in Oborevwori's governance, affirming that the evidence of good leadership is tangible in the state’s ongoing developmental projects. He stated, "The governor's actions speak volumes about the administration's vision for continuous growth in Delta State."

Notably, Obire commended the governor's attentiveness to the welfare of civil servants, pensioners, students, and the marginalized, especially in light of the economic challenges imposed by the current federal administration. He remarked, “The initiatives undertaken by Governor Oborevwori are a testament to his genuine concern for the well-being of all Deltans.”

The proactive measures undertaken by the administration to address issues such as flooding are commendable. Through the Ministry of Environment, the governor has initiated various strategies to mitigate the effects of severe flooding, demonstrating readiness to tackle the challenges faced by vulnerable communities.

Recently, "the governor also inspected the Odiegwu Bridge construction, the Isheagu/Ewulu 9.1-kilometer road project, and various other infrastructural endeavors that signal a brighter future for Delta State. For example, the inspection of the ongoing 20.95-kilometer Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road, vital for the Itsekiri Nation, reflects the administration's commitment to unearthing the region's potential through enhanced connectivity.

Obire disclosed that "the administration is facilitating the third round of the Delta State Palliative Grains Distribution, aimed at easing the burdens of residents during these trying times. He called for transparency and accountability in the distribution processes, ensuring that all segments of society, including unregistered farmers and the vulnerable, are integrated into the support framework.

In light of this impressive progress, Olorogun Godwin Obire urged all Deltans, irrespective of political affiliations, to rally behind Governor Oborevwori. He emphasized that now is the time for unity in support of governance, stating, “Politics is over; it is time for governance. Only through collective support can we ensure further progress for Delta State.”

"Governor Oborevwori's leadership exemplifies a commitment to the holistic development of Delta State, and it is the shared responsibility of every resident to contribute to this admirable vision. Together, let us forge ahead in collaboration for the betterment of our communities and the state.

The Catastrophe of the APC Administration Under Tinubu: A Call for Reflection - Godwin Obire

Friday, September 13, 2024.

Olorogun Godwin Obire, the convener of Concerned Nigerians for a Better Nigeria (CNBN), has candidly condemned the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressive Congress (APC) as a monumental failure, labeling it a disaster for the nation. In an exclusive interview with Bitterr Truthh Magazine, Obire articulated the grave economic difficulties inflicted upon the Nigerian populace, attributing them directly to the APC's ineffectual policies that lack compassion for the citizenry.

Obire remarked, “This Tinubu government is a complete failure. Contrary to pre-election sentiments, it is clear that the president has failed to surround himself with capable individuals. His administration has emerged as a profound disappointment, marked by questionable appointments—including one of the most ineffective Ministers of Power in Nigeria's history.”

He emphasized that the country is witnessing unprecedented power outages, where citizens may endure months without electricity, a stark deviation from previous standards. “We’ve experienced the highest electricity price hikes since independence—a completely arbitrary escalation. The removal of the fuel subsidy led to skyrocketing petrol prices, which in turn triggered rampant inflation,” Obire noted. The effects are palpable, with a bag of rice now costing nearly 90,000 Naira, surpassing the recently proposed minimum wage of 70,000 Naira. This stark reality underscores the severe economic hardship faced by millions of Nigerians, who struggle to afford basic necessities due to poor policy decisions.

The executive assistant to the Delta state governor further expressed his dismay at the administration's economic management, stating, “Leadership is not rocket science. The president and his team have failed. The current economic team is the most inadequate we’ve seen since the founding of our nation. It’s unfathomable that we are spending billions defending a currency that continues to depreciate in value. While we borrow to meet our financial obligations, meaningful economic progress remains elusive.”

Obire highlighted the absurdity of the government’s actions, criticizing the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, who claimed that President Tinubu would inaugurate a refurbished bridge. “For a sitting president to commission a refurbished bridge is ludicrous. It highlights the mediocrity and cronyism that have become the hallmarks of this administration,” he said.

He further lamented the rise of ethnic favoritism within the APC government, where appointments have predominantly favored individuals from specific regions, particularly the Yoruba. “What we have witnessed is not merely a return to tribalism but a troubling escalation of it, justified by misguided comparisons to previous administrations,” Obire argued.

In closing, Obire declared, “The state of our nation is disheartening. Despite our abundant resources and talent, we are plagued by poor leadership at all levels within the APC-led administration. The jubilations around trivial achievements, like road refurbishments, only serve to highlight the mediocrity that defines our current governance.”

The implications of the APC's policies and the Tinubu administration's failures manifest in significant hardships for ordinary Nigerians, underscoring an urgent need for accountability and a reevaluation of governance aimed at improving the quality of life for the people.

POLITICAL TSUNAMI: Obire Predicts APC's Total Annihilation in Delta State's 2027 Election

Olorogun Godwin Obire, a prominent communication strategist and leader of the Concern Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN) Group, has made a bold assertion regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State. He claims that the party is unlikely to secure even a single local government area in 2027 governorship elections, given its current state of disarray and ineffective leadership under Elder Omeni Sobotie, whom he describes as the chairman of "expired, confused, failed, and depressed politicians."

In a press conference held in Asaba on September 13, 2024, Obire pointed to the remarkable governance by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, whose administration has reportedly made significant strides across all 25 local government areas. Obire emphasized that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) will capitalize on these accomplishments to achieve a sweeping victory in both the three senatorial districts and the 25 local government areas come 2027. He dismissed the four local government areas won by the APC in the 2023 governorship election as an anomaly, suggesting that Delta citizens have become increasingly aware of the dire economic situation resulting from the APC's misguided policies and no sane person will vote APC in any election across Nigeria

Obire outlined how the APC's governance has contributed to widespread hardship in Nigeria. He lamented that the price of a basic commodity, such as rice, has soared to 90,000 Naira, far exceeding the proposed minimum wage of 70,000 Naira. Such inflationary pressures have made it nearly impossible for families to afford essential goods, exacerbating the suffering of ordinary citizens. He called attention to the APC's inability to maintain security, life's and the properties of Nigerians leading to increased violence and instability, which further complicates the economic challenges facing the populace.

According to Obire, the Delta State chapter of the APC is plagued by a lack of visionary leadership capable of uniting the party and presenting a legitimate challenge to the PDP. He praised Governor Oborevwori as a political juggernaut who fosters inclusivity across party lines and has been instrumental in implementing policies that have substantially improved Delta State's infrastructure, socioeconomic development, healthcare, and education.

Obire affirmed that the Oborevwori administration is dedicated to fostering a conducive environment for investment through incentives and tax holidays to attract foreign investment and stimulate local enterprise. He criticized the APC’s national leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for leaving the nation in a state of economic ruin, characterized by severe debt, spiraling inflation, and a collapsing healthcare system. The educational sector is particularly suffering, as many qualified professionals have sought opportunities abroad due to unfavorable conditions at home.

He further condemned Elder Sobotie’s leadership, highlighting the lack of moral integrity and genuine governance aspirations among APC politicians, who often prioritize personal gain over the welfare of the populace. He likened them to "political jobbers" who lack the skills and dedication required to lead effectively.

Obire expressed unwavering confidence in the ability of Governor Oborevwori's administration to continue to usher in meaningful change and development for the next six and half years 2031. He concluded by asserting that the APC’s diminishing political relevance in Delta State is evident from its inability to secure a single local government area in the Delta north senatorial district during the 2023 governorship election.

As the political landscape in Delta State continues to evolve, the perception of the APC as a party out of touch with the realities facing ordinary Nigerians grows stronger, leaving many to question its future viability in the upcoming electoral cycle.

The Executive Assistant (Political) to the Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Godwin Obire, recently affirmed the state’s readiness to host the upcoming National Youth Games, emphasizing that "everything to host the National Youth Games is in top shape." His comments were made during a radio program broadcast from Asaba.

As the 8th Edition of the National Youth Games prepares to kick off tomorrow, Obire highlighted that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, personally inspected the facilities at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium to ensure optimal conditions for athletes and officials.

During the inspection, the Governor meticulously examined key facilities, including the state-of-the-art shooting range, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, the VIP lounge, the state box, and various indoor game arenas. Obire assured the public that these amenities have been thoroughly prepared and are ready for use, showcasing the commitment of the state government to provide the best possible experience for participants.

Furthermore, Obire lauded the Governor's dedication to youth development by highlighting local talent. He proudly referenced Favour Ofili, a Deltan who qualified for the 200-meter final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, noting her success as a testament to the nurturing environment fostered by the National Youth Games.

Obire also praised the efforts of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), led by Chief Solomon Ogba, commending them for their hard work and meticulous planning leading up to this significant event. Deltans, he mentioned, are highly impressed with the LOC's accomplishments, which reflect a broader commitment to promoting sports and youth engagement in the state.

The Delta State government, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is not only focused on hosting the National Youth Games with top-tier facilities but is also dedicated to fostering talent and enabling the next generation of athletes. With unwavering commitment and effective organization, Delta State is poised to make this year’s games a resounding success.

APC-Led Tinubu Administration: A Complete Failure and Clueless About Democratic Ethics

By Ayo Felix

Wednesday, September 11, 2024

In a recent statement, the Concern Nigerians for a Better Nigeria group (CNBN) strongly criticized the policies of the Tinubu-led federal government, describing them as lacking compassion and being ineffective. Olorogun Godwin Obire, the convener of the group, voiced his concerns regarding the government's actions of arresting protesters who were demonstrating against its bad policies and economic hardships. These protesters are being charged with serious crimes, which is unjust and goes against the principles of democracy.

Obire questioned the motives behind the government's crackdown on dissent and protests. He asked why the exercise of freedom to protest is being treated as treasonable, and why the government is determined to stifle constitutional freedoms and silence those who disagree with them. He compared the current situation to the 16 years of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) rule, during which protesters were not detained indefinitely or held in disregard of court orders.

The CNBN firmly believes that the Tinubu administration has forgotten the people's commitment to democracy and their resistance against dictatorship. They warn that the government's actions will provoke an impoverished and frustrated citizenry, who will ultimately express their anger. The group highlights the invasion of SERAP and NLC labor house, as well as the targeting of individuals for their support of the End Bad Governance Protest, as evidence of an emerging dictatorship.

Instead of focusing on governance and fulfilling its promises, the Tinubu administration is being accused of aggravating the people by implementing policies that increase tariffs, fuel prices, and poverty, while simultaneously indulging in wasteful spending and corruption. The CNBN asserts that citizens have the right to voice their complaints and protest against such actions, and any attempts to suppress them are unacceptable.

The group calls for the immediate release of Comrade Joe Ajaero and all young people currently on trial for their participation in the protests. They urge the government to address hunger and poverty, and to engage with the people in a proactive manner. Additionally, they highlight the importance of security agencies prioritizing tackling insecurity and violent crimes instead of targeting government critics and protesters.

The CNBN concludes by expressing hope for a better Nigeria, stating that despite the current challenges, they still believe in the potential of the country.

An Open Letter to His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR
President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
Federal Republic of Nigeria

Your Excellency,

REIMAGINING NIGERIA'S SOCIAL SAFETY NET: A CALL TO REPLACE THE MINISTRY OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS WITH A NATIONAL SOCIAL SECURITY AGENCY UNDER THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

Nigeria stands at a pivotal crossroads. The pervasive issues of poverty and the societal decay it perpetuates have reached a level of urgency that can no longer be ignored. The cries of hunger, now echoing in the streets, represent far more than just a lack of food. They are the voices of millions of Nigerians who have been stripped of their dignity, left to survive in a system that has failed them repeatedly. These are not merely protests; they are a collective outcry against the indignity of living without the certainty of basic needs, without hope for a better future.

Your Excellency, in the face of these challenges, it is imperative that we reassess our approach to social welfare in Nigeria. The current framework, embodied by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, has not only fallen short of addressing these issues but has also perpetuated a cycle of dependency and poverty. This ministry, while well-intentioned, has proven to be a temporary bandage on a deep and festering wound. This approach does not respect the inherent dignity of our people. It treats them as dependents rather than as citizens with rights. Social security should be recognized not as an act of benevolence, but as a fundamental right. It is time to rethink our strategy and implement a transformative change that will pave the way for a more equitable and sustainable future for all Nigerians.

I respectfully urge you to consider establishing a National Social Security Agency, directly under the Office of the President, to replace the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. This agency would target and address the needs of the vulnerable population through a more efficient and sustainable system, one that truly empowers rather than pities, one that upholds the dignity and respect every Nigerian deserves. A system that ensures citizens feel truly secure, confident that no matter the circumstances, their basic needs for food and shelter will be met, a system that will provide the government with the necessary space to focus on other critical aspects of governance, free from unprovoked backlash due to perceived neglect or lack of support.

Who are the vulnerable to be targeted?
When we speak of the vulnerable, we must recognize them for who they truly are: our elderly who have served this country, now left without the security of a pension; our disabled who are daily fighting for a life of dignity in a society that overlooks their needs; our widows and orphans, left without a breadwinner and struggling to survive; the unemployed who seek work but find only closed doors; and those who have suffered unimaginable loss—whether through accidents, violence, or abandonment—and are now forgotten by the system that should protect them. These are the faces of Nigeria’s vulnerable population, and it is our moral obligation to ensure that they are not just seen but also supported with the dignity and respect they deserve.

The Flawed System: Why Our Current Approach to Poverty Alleviation Isn’t Working
The fight against poverty has been a central focus of development planning in Nigeria since independence. Various governments have introduced numerous poverty alleviation programs over the years. Yet, the grim reality is that these interventions have largely failed to deliver meaningful and lasting results. The statistics paint a sobering picture:
•Poverty Rate: Approximately 40% of Nigerians live below the poverty line, struggling to meet their basic needs.

•Unemployment: The unemployment rate stands at around 33%, with many Nigerians, especially youth, unable to secure stable employment.

•Disability: Over 25 million Nigerians are living with disabilities, often without adequate support or services to lead dignified lives.

•Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs): Over 3 million Nigerians have been displaced due to conflicts and natural disasters, facing severe hardships and limited access to essential services.

The existing model, which relies heavily on charitable handouts and temporary relief measures, is not only inadequate but also fundamentally flawed. This approach is not only patronizing but also demeaning, perpetuating a cycle of dependency. Substantial portions of allocated funds are often misappropriated or wasted, and the aid that does reach those in need is insufficient and quickly depleted on immediate necessities, rather than fostering long-term empowerment or self-sufficiency.

From Charity to Rights-Based Social Support
Your Excellency, continuing to administer social support through a charity-oriented framework is both dishonorable and counterproductive. It turns those in need into dependents rather than empowering them to rise above their circumstances. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, by its very name, suggests that social support is a benevolent gift rather than a fundamental right. This mindset is outdated and should be replaced with one that recognizes social security as a rightful entitlement for every Nigerian citizen.

The National Social Security Agency: A Comprehensive Solution for Nigeria's Social Welfare
To rectify this, I propose the creation of a National Social Security Agency, a centralized body tied directly to the Office of the President, tasked with managing a National Social Security Database. This database will ensure comprehensive and accurate records of all Nigerians, enabling the government to effectively identify and address needs related to housing, employment, healthcare, and more. A critical aspect of this reform includes the provision of low-cost housing. As individuals become self-sufficient through employment and support, they can transition to more permanent housing, thus making room for others in need.

We must acknowledge the direct impact that meeting basic needs has on reducing crime and violence. It's a well-understood reality that crime and violence in Nigeria could be reduced by at least 30% if the basic needs of the poor and needy are adequately met. While this doesn’t excuse criminal behavior, we must face the fact that many crimes in our nation stem from the desperation to survive, unlike in more affluent societies where crimes are less often rooted in economic necessity.

The protests and agitations that currently plague the nation are, at their core, expressions of deep-seated hunger and need. When citizens know that their next meal is guaranteed, that they have a roof over their heads, and that they will not be abandoned in times of need, they engage more constructively in society rather than being forced to fight for survival.

Moreover, this shift will allow the government to focus on other critical areas of national development and significantly reduce unwarranted criticism stemming from concerns about neglect or inadequate support.

The Role of Data and the NIN
The dependability of the data is crucial because accurate, up-to-date information is essential for identifying and effectively assisting those who are genuinely in need. The National Identification Number (NIN) will play a vital role in this process by serving as a unique identifier for every citizen. It will help ensure that benefits are correctly assigned to eligible individuals, track the employment and economic status of citizens over time, and reduce instances of duplicate or fraudulent claims, as each person’s records would be tied to their unique NIN. The success of the National Social Security Agency will hinge on the accuracy and reliability of the data it collects, as demonstrated by the success stories of other countries with similar systems.

A Sustainable Model for Social Security Funding

1. Compulsory 5% First-Line Charge Deductions: To ensure consistent and reliable funding, a compulsory 5% first-line charge from the federal, state and local governments’ monthly allocation should be instituted, deducted directly at source from the Federation account before any allocations are made to the three tiers of government. This approach eliminates the cumbersome process of remitting funds after distribution. A law will stipulate and enforce this deduction, ensuring that all tiers of government are aligned in their commitment to sustaining the social security system.

2. Contributions from Taxes and Private Sector: Private individuals and businesses will also contribute to the social security fund. A 5% contribution from employed individuals and businesses will not only help sustain the fund but also foster a sense of shared responsibility for the welfare of the nation. This contribution could be in the form of a tax, which would be a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with knowing that every Nigerian is assured of basic sustenance.

When previously unemployed individuals gain employment, they would begin contributing to the Social Security Fund through a mandated percentage of their income, similar to other employed individuals. This applies to everyone earning an income, whether in the private or public sector, including those engaged in petty trading. This principle underscores the importance of contribution: if an individual did not contribute while employed, they would not be entitled to receive support if they later become unemployed.

To drive this process and ensure efficient resource allocation, the agency will establish an office in each of the 774 Local Government Areas. Local governments will work closely with the Social Security field offices, as they are best equipped to manage and interpret community-level data. With the help of councilors, local government chairmen can identify individuals who are disabled, unemployed, or otherwise disadvantaged, making it easier to detect fraudulent claims.

The collective contribution approach is neither foreign to us nor unattainable. From 1960 to 1995, Nigeria committed over $61 billion to the liberation of South Africa, demonstrating our nation's capacity for sacrifice and solidarity. In 1976, the South African Relief Fund (SAFR) was established to alleviate the suffering of those oppressed under apartheid. Nigerian civil servants and public officers willingly contributed 2% of their monthly salaries to support this cause.

Your Excellency, if Nigeria could extend such profound commitment to liberate black South Africans, surely we can marshal the same resolve to uplift over 80 million Nigerians from the shackles of poverty and restore their dignity. This is not just a call to duty; it is a call to our shared humanity. And it is one that must be led by you, Mr. President. Let this be President Tinubu’s Economic Revival for the Masses—a legacy project that will set a new standard for governance in Nigeria and inspire subsequent administrations to continue this vital work.

The Bottom Line

Your Excellency, establishing a National Social Security Agency is not merely an administrative change but a crucial step towards better governance and improved living standards in Nigeria. This reform will move us beyond ineffective and degrading empowerment programs to a system that truly supports and uplifts every Nigerian citizen. Social security should be recognized as a right, and it is time we implement a framework that reflects this fundamental principle—one where citizens receive the support they need without having to rely on connections within the presidency, national or state assemblies, governors, commissioners, or local government chairmen.

In conclusion, the creation of the National Social Security Agency, directly under the Office of the President, in place of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, would not only guarantee the rights and dignity of Nigeria's most vulnerable citizens but also align our nation with global standards in the realistic and far-reaching implementation of fundamental principles of livelihood, exemplified by equity, enterprise, and engagement.

Your Excellency, in this period of socio-economic difficulties, the National Social Security Agency has the potential to address the needs of the people and profoundly manifest your administration's commitment to good governance. I, therefore, urge you to take action for the common good of empowering the citizens and charting a bold new course in patriotic service to the nation.

With due diligence and utmost respect,

In a press release issued by Olorogun Godwin Obire, Senator Ned Nwoko's aide, it was revealed that the senator actively participated in a two-day interactive workshop organized by the Senate Committee on State and Local Government Administration. The workshop, conducted in collaboration with Global Gold Consult, centered around the crucial discussion of Nigeria's border security and socio-economic management, with a specific focus on the challenges posed by porous boundaries.

During the workshop, the participants emphasized the importance of the National Boundary Commission intensifying its efforts to resolve and define interstate boundary disputes. It was highlighted that clearly defined and demarcated boundaries are essential for promoting peaceful coexistence and cross-border cooperation. The commission was urged to enhance field investigations to ensure proper boundary demarcation and prevent conflicts.

One of the key issues addressed during the workshop was the porous coastal lines in the South-South region, where Senator Ned Nwoko hails from. These vulnerable coastal areas have unfortunately facilitated issues such as oil theft, which is not limited to one region but affects the entire country. Recognizing the severity of these challenges was considered a critical first step, and the workshop aimed to develop and implement effective strategies to improve border security and socio-economic stability.

In light of the widespread concerns surrounding border security and socio-economic stability, this timely seminar played a crucial role in identifying and addressing these pressing issues.

Others include, those who have weak immune system and those who have diseases such as diabetes , or AIDS are at high risk of contacting the disease because of their weak immune system

In a recent radio interview with Bridge FM Asaba, Olorogun Godwin Obire, the special adviser on legislative and political matter to the senator representing delta north senatorial district at the 10th National Assembly Senate, shed light on the emergence of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko as the Committee chairman on Reparations and Repatriation. Obire emphasized that Senator Ned is the perfect fit for the role and went on to discuss the functions of the new committee.

According to Obire, the committee will play a crucial role in addressing historical injustices, promoting societal healing, and ensuring accountability. He further highlighted that this newly formed committee is the first of its kind and will be responsible for Policy Development, outlining eligibility criteria, types of reparations, and mechanisms for addressing historical grievances.

Obire also revealed that the committee, under the leadership of Senator Ned Nwoko, will be significantly involved in legislative review. Their main task will be to review existing legislation, propose new laws, and suggest amendments to support reparations programs and repatriation efforts. This ensures that the committee's actions align with international standards and best practices in addressing historical grievances.

Furthermore, Obire stated that the committee will oversee the implementation of reparations and repatriation programs, carefully monitoring their effectiveness and ensuring that they are carried out in a fair and transparent manner. The committee may conduct hearings, investigations, and evaluations to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.

To ensure inclusivity and participation, Obire mentioned that the committee will engage with victims, communities, experts, and advocacy groups to gather input on reparations and repatriation initiatives. Public consultations will be conducted to guarantee the process is comprehensive and representative of various perspectives.

Allocation of funds for reparations and repatriation programs will also be one of the committee's responsibilities. They will work closely with the finance committee to secure the necessary budgetary provisions. The committee will also conduct research on historical injustices, analyze data, reports, and case studies to inform their decision-making and policy recommendations.

Collaboration with international organizations, foreign governments, and experts in the field of reparations and repatriation is another agenda item for the committee. This will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as foster global cooperation in addressing historical grievances.

Additionally, the committee will focus on raising awareness among the general public about the significance of reparations and repatriation in addressing historical injustices and promoting reconciliation. Educational campaigns, events, and initiatives will be organized to inform the public about the committee's work.

Advocacy for the rights of victims of historical injustices will also be a priority for the committee. They will push for legal reforms, policy changes, and institutional reforms to support reparations and repatriation efforts. Lobbying other lawmakers to gain support for their initiatives will be part of their strategy.

To keep the public and the National Assembly Senate informed, the committee will prepare reports on their findings, recommendations, and progress in implementing reparations and repatriation programs. These reports will be submitted to the National Assembly Senate for review and consideration.

Obire stressed the critical role that the National Assembly Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation will play in advancing justice, reconciliation, and healing for individuals and communities affected by historical injustices. Their functions and duties are aimed at addressing the legacies of the past, promoting accountability, and building a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

Regional integration efforts were another crucial aspect of the meeting. Diplomatic collaboration was emphasized, as The Gambia and Nigeria maintain diplomatic relations and work closely on regional and international issues. Collaborating within multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and the African Union is crucial for addressing common challenges and promoting shared objectives.

Infrastructure development and connectivity projects were discussed to enhance regional trade and economic growth. Initiatives such as road and rail connectivity, energy infrastructure, and telecommunications were explored to improve connectivity within the region.

Nwoko's Tour of International Oil Companies in Delta North Discussed by Obire

Senator Prince Ned Nwoko's aide, Olorogun Godwin Obire, recently spoke about the Senator's tour of International Oil Companies (IOCs) in the Delta North Senatorial District. In an interview on a radio program in Asaba, Obire highlighted the purpose, findings, and resolutions of the tour.

Obire emphasized that the Senator's comprehensive tour, which took place on May 31 and June 3, 2024, was unprecedented in the history of the Delta North Senatorial District. This tour was not taken lightly, as the Senator had received numerous petitions from constituents outlining grievances against these companies. The issues raised in these petitions included inadequate Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, unfair layoffs, gas flaring, oil spillages, lack of environmental impact assessments, and insufficient contributions to healthcare.

To address these concerns firsthand, the Senator decided against meeting with the chairpersons or managing directors in offices. His interest was in assessing the level of environmental degradation, the companies' obligations to host communities, and employment conditions. Obire mentioned that the Senator declined Agip's invitation to their office in Port Harcourt, as his focus was on interacting directly with the communities affected.

The tour began with a visit to Pan Ocean Oil Corporation's OML147 Flow Station in Owa-Alidinma, Ika North-East Local Government Area, and continued with visits to various other companies in different local government areas. Obire stated that during these visits, the Senator sought assurance that the companies were operating profitably and safely, and complying with Nigerian laws. This was essential for fulfilling their Corporate Social Responsibility to host communities.

Based on the Senator's findings, it was revealed that only 1% of the IOCs practiced zero gas flaring, with many justifying this practice by paying penalties. The communities within the Delta North Senatorial District suffered from the dangerous impact of oil spillages, which exceeded what the Senator witnessed firsthand. The IOCs admitted to laying off local staff due to the closure of economically unviable facilities. Furthermore, their CSR efforts were consistently reported as poor and below standard, and bureaucratic bottlenecks posed challenges for locals trying to engage with the companies.

In response to these findings, the Senator pressed for clarity on the companies' long-term strategies for managing gas flaring and emphasized the potential of utilizing gas for electricity production. He urged the companies to reinstate laid-off staff into other available positions or facilities temporarily. Additionally, he called for the establishment of local bodies or committees at each facility's location to address bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensure effective communication with host communities.

Obire emphasized that the tour was essential for the Senator, who assured constituents that if the National Assembly did not address the petitions and motions aimed at holding IOCs to international standards, legal action would be pursued. However, the Senator intends to initially await the decisions and actions of the National Assembly.

Overall, the Senator's focus is on balancing profitability for the IOCs with their responsibility to fulfill obligations to host communities.

In a recent announcement by Olorogun Godwin Obire, the senior aide on legislative and political matters to Senator Ned Nwoko, it has been reiterated that Anioma is set to become the 6th Southeast state. This statement was made during Senator Ned Nwoko's Delta North constituency empowerment program.

Obire highlighted that Anioma, with its numerous local government areas, is the most eligible candidate for statehood in the Southeast region. He emphasized that Senator Ned Nwoko is determined to see this through and bring the creation of Anioma State to reality. The bill for the establishment of Anioma State has already passed the first reading in the Senate.

"What we are pushing for is very possible and realistic," Obire stated. "It is clear that every zone in Nigeria, except for the Southeast, has six states. The Northwest has seven states, while the Southeast is still stuck at five states. It is only fair that we, the Anioma people, deserve another state, and it should come from Delta state."

Obire went on to highlight some key reasons why Anioma is well-suited for statehood. Firstly, Anioma consists of nine local governments, which is more than some existing states in the country. He also pointed out that Anioma is an oil-producing area, making it resource-rich. In terms of population, Anioma is also qualified to become a state.

With the creation of Anioma State, Obire noted that the Anioma people will benefit greatly. This includes having three senators, nine House of Representatives members, and various other political office holders. He called on all Igbo people, especially those with ancestral ties to Anioma, to support Senator Ned Nwoko in achieving this milestone.

"All Anioma people should unite and support Senator Ned Nwoko in his fight for Anioma statehood. The advantages and opportunities that will come with it cannot be understated," Obire explained. "It is long overdue, and we commend those who have shown their support for this motion."

Overall, the establishment of Anioma State would not only address the imbalance in the number of states in the Southeast but also bring significant benefits and opportunities to the Anioma people. Olorogun Godwin Obire's enthusiastic endorsement of Senator Ned Nwoko's efforts underscores the seriousness and determination behind this cause.

Senator Ned Nwoko recently held a successful empowerment program focused on digital training and farming entrepreneurship, wherein beneficiaries were provided with new ideas and cash grants to support their businesses.

The senator reiterated his commitment to empowering farmers in order to achieve sustainable development and food security.

During the event, Senator Ned presented cash grants totaling over 60 million Naira to beneficiaries across the Delta North senatorial district. These funds will be disbursed to farmers at a rate of 100,000 Naira per farmer. The selected farmers are spread across the wards that make up the 9 local government areas in Delta North.

Additionally, Senator Ned announced a cash grant of 100,000 Naira each for 100 individuals with disabilities who reside in the Delta North senatorial district. This gesture aims to improve their quality of life.

Recognizing the crucial role of agriculture in achieving sustainable development and ensuring food sufficiency, Senator Ned Nwoko is committed to supporting farmers in Delta North. This commitment aligns with the broader agenda of strengthening the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of Concern Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN), Olorogun Godwin Obire, commended Senator Ned for his initiative, describing it as exemplary.

Obire emphasized that Senator Ned has consistently prioritized the empowerment of constituents in the Delta North senatorial district. Thousands of individuals have already benefited from the Ned Nwoko financial assistance scheme, initiated by the Ned Nwoko Foundation, which supports farmers, women, and elderly individuals, among others.

Furthermore, Obire appreciated Senator Ned's approach of continuous empowerment programs that aim to systematically and reliably provide citizens with basic necessities and support to enhance their quality of life. Senator Ned believes that cash grants should be used for expanding businesses, rather than for immediate needs, such as feeding or solving urgent problems, as this defeats the purpose of the initiative.

Senator Ned urged the farmer beneficiaries to expand their farming entrepreneurship, increase their contribution to national and local food production, and serve as role models for aspiring farmers in the Delta North senatorial district. He wished them success in their endeavors and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that his constituents receive their fair share of the dividends of democracy.

Olorogun Godwin Obire, an aide to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, disclosed details of discussions held between the Senator, the Ministry of Environment, and international investors. Speaking to the press following the Senator's visit, Obire provided further insights into the meeting.

The discussions focused on exploring innovative strategies for renewable energy development. Senator Ned emphasized the importance of empowering people, taking climate action, and protecting the environment, which are key goals for the Senate committee on environment.

Senator Ned stressed that climate change is currently the most significant environmental challenge. He highlighted the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a low carbon economy, noting the benefits this would bring to both the environment and sustainable business development.

Furthermore, Senator Ned acknowledged that human activities are the primary cause of the observed global-scale changes in the climate system. He expressed concern over the impacts of these changes on societies, such as droughts and shifting rainfall patterns, which can have severe social and economic consequences.

Senator Ned emphasized that Nigeria, being Africa's largest economy, faces significant development challenges exacerbated by climate change. These challenges include food insecurity, limited access to energy, and high unemployment. He stressed that taking action on climate change is crucial for Nigeria's sustainable development.

The Senator believes that transitioning to a low carbon economy can contribute significantly to climate goals while also addressing other development objectives, including poverty reduction, food security, health, water availability, energy access, and economic growth.

He also highlighted Nigeria's ratification of the historic Paris Agreement, which commits governments to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and recognizes climate change as a cross-cutting developmental issue.

Nigeria has already developed sectoral plans to deliver on its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and aims to reduce domestic greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% by 2030, with the potential to increase to 45% with international support.

Senator Ned emphasized that transitioning to low-carbon, sustainable economies can create jobs, promote social justice, and eradicate poverty, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The Nigerian government has implemented various policies and instruments to facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy, including the National Policy on Climate Change and the National Adaptation Strategy and Plan of Action on Climate Change for Nigeria.

However, achieving a green economy will require significant financial resources. The government is actively working to access global climate finance through the development of a National Readiness Plan and stakeholder participation in project development.

In conclusion, Senator Ned underscored the importance of taking practical actions to reduce emissions, raise awareness, prepare for extreme events, adapt to climate change impacts, and develop sustainable funding mechanisms. He believes that through collaborative efforts, we can secure our future today.
