Ik09: If you're talking about full-time work, you can get an IT job without knowing Dutch - epecially in international companies. But even then, employers will pick a native speaker in most cases.

I can't think of any part time roles in an IT firm that won't require Dutch though.
Thanks for the insight. With time, I will weigh my options. Since I will be staying in Eindhoven - with huge concentration of Tech and International companies - come next year. I hope to find something manageable before picking up on the language.

Ik09: You've probably heard this before, but just in case...

Register on kamernet.nl, then u can search for rooms to rent. There's an option at the top right (I think) to view the site in English.

Being the only Nigerian in your vicinity is tough, but you'll adapt. Besides if you can't survive without Nigerians nearby, you should have stayed back in Nigeria?. Term just started, so clubs and societies will be open to new members. You could try joining one.

Or just try being friendly with your classmates. Instead of being 'the black guy with earphones that's always frowning' (trust me, I've been there before), you could try starting conversation with someone in class. That's the easiest way to make friends.

Getting a job is always difficult. But if you can't speak Dutch, you will NOT get a part-time job. Focus on learning the language first...

Unfortunately, if cash is tight there's very little international students can do legitimately. I guess that's why they ask for proof of funds before granting visas.

All the best, Bro. You've been given an opportunity most people can only dream about.
Good advice.

What about ICT jobs. You know computer is a universal language. Do such job require Dutch language skills ? Of course, I know learning the language is important......

IBKCan: @pensniper @digitite - I can assure you these laptops are genuine, I bought them directly from off lease sellers in Canada myself and sent them to Nigeria by air. Yemi can show you the shipping documents /customs clearing. I bring stuff to Nigeria, but laptops are not my main line yet, thats why am looking for partners here in Nairaland. My brother Yemi can however conclude these deals with you. His number is 0809-116-4626. You can call him or email me rexilaw@gmail.com. IBK.
I will relate more with you later. Ebi4life seems unserious.
ComputersRe: An Experienced Computer Instructor Should Help Out by digitite: 7:53pm On Aug 22, 2014
Clinton594: it's not necessarily the battery that is faulty...... she should check if there was a power surge before the damage happened, then It might be the charging IC . Either ways , she should take it to a hardware engineer for repairs
But at least Diagnosis tends to start from the source .

Besides, what damage are you indicating here ?

Pinkyeyes: pls i dnt know what went wrong. My HP mini only works wen plugged and d current does not charge it anymore. The moment i remove charger from power it goes off.
First, check the charger; use another compatible charger on it, if the problem persist, then the battery could be faulty and you would need to get a new one.

ProgrammingRe: A Thread For Nigerian Cloud Engineers - Prospective And Practising by digitite: 7:02am On Aug 19, 2014
Jeffflo: @spikesC, even in the west, cloud computing is totally a new field, heralded though it was by virtualisation such that what obtained before isn't neccesarily applicable anymore smh.

Its a total paradigm shift that will displace those of us with long standing experience in IT (i have been a virtualistion and SEO specialist for 4 years now) for fresh blood armed with innovation in thier eyes and reams of certificates in their fists.

And i think its a good thing.

IT coys are rapidly going the way of trad companies, requiring years of experience. Its the next generation i want armed with skills comparable to their contemporaries elsewhere.

So yea, experience counts, if it in virtualistion, project management, storage. If not, it will be set aside in favour of dedicated vendor-specific cloud certs. Speaking of which, lets try to define cloud computing.
I admire guys like you who keep up with the latest trend in IT. I heralded this point and some guys went off point with it.

Just as you postulated, Cloud Computing is changing everything from Software to Web/Application development, from Networking to even shaping how Hardware is being designed. And this time is more critical to Server Administrators. Any traditional IT personnel who does not upgrade will be left behind for good cheesy

In fact, most of my IT resources are being shifted to the cloud. That way I can access and work with them from anywhere smiley

Welcome to the New IT. A Cloud Computing Expert in the making here cool
