Nairaland / General / MTN CEO Resigns Over N1.04 Trillion Nigeria Fine by dikazik(m): 4:27pm On Nov 09, 2015
ifiso Dabengwa, the Group Chief Executive Officer of telecom company, MTN, has resigned following the massive N1.04 trillion ($5.2 billion) fine imposed on the company by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
MTN was sanctioned by the Nigerian government for failing to disconnect 5.1 million unregistered subscribers.
Non-Executive Chairman, Phuthuma Nhleko, will act as executive chairman for a maximum period of six months while the company identifies a successor to Mr. Dabengwa, MTN said in a statement issued in Johannesburg on Monday
“Due to the most unfortunate prevailing circumstances occurring at MTN Nigeria, I, in the interest of the company and its shareholders, have tendered my resignation with immediate effect,” Mr. Dabengwa was quoted as saying in the statement.
MTN has until Nov. 16 to pay the Nigeria penalty, which relates to the timing of the disconnection of 5.1 million subscribers and is based on a charge of 200,000 naira ($1,008) for each unregistered customer. The company’s shares lost almost a quarter of their value following the disclosure of the fine, before a partial recovery.
“I proactively deal with the Nigerian regulator and will continue to work with them in addressing the issues around unregistered subscribers as a matter of urgency,” Nhleko said.
MTN said it will continue to inform shareholders of any engagements with the Nigerian government, the company said.
The company has up to November 16 to pay up.
Last week, the South African bourse suspended trading in the shares of telecoms firm MTN following the huge fine.
MTN is Africa’s biggest phone operator, and derives its largest (a third) earnings from Nigeria.
The NCC had in August directed mobile telecoms companies to deactivate all unregistered SIM cards or face severe sanctions.
MTN missed the deadline to deactivate its unregistered subscribers, prompting a 200,000-naira ($1,000) fine for each unregistered SIM.
MTN’s shares fell sharply shortly after the fine last week, closing 12.49 percent lower at 167 rand — the lowest in several years.

GRANTED THAT THE PURPOSE FOR THE THIS MADNESS WAS A GROSS MISTAKE FROM THE UNIFORM MEN.

BUT WHY HAVE STUDENTS CONTINUE TO EXHIBIT TRAITS OF ILLITERACY? EVERY LITTLE PROVOCATION CALLS FOR A PROTEST OR A BLOCKADE. I MEAN IS THIS NOT WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSE TO ENLIGHTEN THE UNEDUCATED TO ABSTAIN FROM?

WE SEE ALUTA AS A MEANS FOR SENSELESS VIOLENCE AND DISRUPTION OF SOCIETAL PROGRESS. SMH

Not all students. I have been in Unizik since 2010, now am in my finals .... there has been nothing like violence in school. Some see violence as a way toward, I don't think so.

Following the legalization of gay marriage in the US by the Supreme Court, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has challenged US President Barack Obama by asking his hand in marriage.

During Mugabe’s weekly radio interview with Zimbabwe’s national radio last Saturday, he said:

“I’ve just concluded since President Obama endorses the same-sex marriage, advocates homosexual people and enjoys an attractive countenance thus if it becomes necessary , I shall travel to Washington, D.C. , get down on my knee and ask Obama’s hand. I can’t understand how these people dare to defy Christ’s explicit orders as our Lord prohibited mankind from sodomy.”

Mugabe said the American Government is run by pervert, Satan-worshipers who insult the Great American nation.

He reportedly added that “the American tradition and heritage was based on lofty Christian principles, but to the detriment of this great nation, America’s corrupt political elite is acting according to their diabolic whims. Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage, the first ever from a sitting president, came amid growing pressure for the president to clarify his previously muddled opinion, as two senior members of his administration announced personal support for gay marriage and a day after voters in North Carolina approved a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.”
It sounds funny but really what do you think of this gay ruling?

Phones / MTN Exploits by dikazik(m): 11:09am On Jun 08, 2012
I have been using MTN since 2004 and the experience has not been funny. I have considered changing network but it will affect my business a lot, so i quit serching for a new network. Any time they offer you an interestng package, they subtly find another way to frustrate and exploit you. When MTN started mid night calls, the end up charging you too much during the day. There are many other instances. Recently, the new plans have not changed a bit, its now worse. They just exploit and kept on exploting. The new MTN zone now give you zero zone 40% of the day, and guess what, they charge you about 50k per second, especially when you want to make an emmergency call, is that not stealing? There are many other ways MTN exploit us, lets air our view!

Literature / An Ode To Yar' Adua by dikazik(m): 10:09pm On May 10, 2012
Just like a man, you fought the fight
all the way from the start
I respect the way you stood by the right Even to the point that you lay on a mat

You fathered us
Even as many as we were
You sheltered us
Not withstanding how stubborn we were

what a loving father you were
concerned and worried by our needs
what a merciful heart you wear
forgiving even our most terrible deeds

for years we had no leader
but you presented yourself as one
and you promised not to be a ruler
so you led us as one

The hard problem you settled
pouring your mercies in amnesty
giving hope to the unsettled
and bringing back to them dignity

you tackled corruption
down down to the root
you kept your reputation
even in the mist of crooks

when you were down in health
Till the time you died
you did not give up your desire for our wealth
Neither did you allow us marginalized

fighting to the very point of death
you longed to see us again
but for death
your health could have been regained

but now you lay down in death
down the road to eternity
we wish you can get back
but farewell epitome of dignity

farewell caring dad
go well our loved leader
we regret losing a gem like you
and we will never forget the days you led

your meek personality we adore
and we regret to miss a dad like you
so we will never fail to remember
that we once had a leader like you
like our old fathers we will not forget you
like our good leaders we will always honour you.

Pls criticism is allowed but i reserve the copy right of this work. Am Igili Onyedika (08060013472)

unizik hostel is nice. But can u imagine, 4 in a room, with a managable toilet. But can u imagine 45;000 naira....oops thats tooo costly. With 4 hours power supply and fairly constant water supply

anoda unizik hostel name elmada, is probably the best school hostel in 9aija, 3 in a room with uninterupter power supply. Uninterupted water supply too. It has a wifi network, a camera monitoring system and the bad part na 65k, too bad
