microgiant: The sketch is for regular batteries, which i already know from reading this thread.
Please, see sketch attached, as you are aware the LiFePo4 brand has discharge and charge lines separate discharge lines are in series, giving 24V which is clear to me.
My question is should i connect the charging lines to the PWM CC parallel as in my sketch or I also have to connect them in series like the discharge lines.
Note the batteries comes with separate lines unlike regular batteries with only one for charging and discharging.
Thanks for your response. Both terminals can be used because the positive have parallel connection internally. But for me I cut off the black and red plug because it has higher wire gauge. So that is what I used. |

microgiant: I mentioned 4 earlier and asked if it can be connected in series/parallel. You confirmed it can be done, which I believe is for the discharge line to make it 24V for use with a 24V inverter/UPS.
You also confirmed it can be charged with solar using a PWM CC which is why I purchased it (PWM CC). My question now is since the battery has separate charge and discharge cables, how do i connect the two batteries to the PWM CC? Note: I intend to connect in series for 24V output.
I also mentioned that one is a used battery which you also advised against using it, otherwise my initial intention was to parallel and series 2S2P.
Thanks for you support. As I mentioned earlier, either use two from the new ones to get 24volt or buy another one new one to make 2s2p, or confirm that both batteries have the same voltage level by charging them to full capacity and leave them for 24hr or more if the new is the same with the new then you are good to go. For connecting with the CC I will sketch

microgiant: Hello GeorgeD long time. I am trying to go into a kind of mini solar.
@dishtech
I got the PWM CC 12V/24V 60A. see pictures attached. My questions are
1. How do I connect the wires (a) parallel to the PWM CC, or (b) series? Note: batteries are LiFePo4. 2. Can I use a 1500VA MGE UPS? First how many battery do you have? Secondly what is your inverter voltage? You can use the ups which I think is 24volt but must attached fan internally on the MOSFETs and should not exceed 600watt load on it because most ups you see are over rated and are designed to handle load within a short period. |

Penuelseun: why don't you use an automotive relay, like this type rated for 30amps Yes it can be used but those relays are free. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dishtech(m): 10:15pm On Aug 31, 2019 |
BetaTechnicians: The sort of paralleling you've done isn't really standard though it is yet to fail, the relays are not "sucking in" amps so paralleling them doesn't mean they'll share the load during breaking of the circuit, one could even trip before the other. It is better and safer you disconnect your load, you can still use the light load of your pwm with this contactor. TOCT1 2P 25A DC 12V 24V coil 220V/230V 50/60HZ Din rail Household ac Modular contactor 2NO https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/33cTtEw4 From submissions, I said a contactor can be used for larger load, mind that most of what I used to sorted from electronic scrap because I don't have much for what I know can give me what I want. As I said the total capacity is more than twice the total required current drowned. This gives room for support. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dishtech(m): 3:40pm On Aug 28, 2019 |
BetaTechnicians: I understand that the pwm has a cutoff point which works with it's light load output which you use as a signal, how expensive is that pwm? Meanwhile What are you disconnecting, is it your inverter output or the battery supply to the inverter? Also, I do not understand the part of paralleling relays 1. It is not expensive 40A PWM #20k here in Abuja, but I ordered it from AliExpress around #7k. 2. Am disconnecting battery supply to the inverter. 3. Relays are rated like 15A/16VDC, 25A/16VDC, etc. So if for instance your total Load requirement is 300watts and your battery system is 12v, 300÷12=25A so either one relay of 25A/16VDC or two relays of 15A/16VDC connected in parallel to share the current drowned from the battery. For larger load contactor may be employed. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dishtech(m): 5:19pm On Aug 27, 2019 |
BetaTechnicians: OK, I can see those relays, so the pwm cc sends a signal to them? Yes. Two relays connected in parallel, The normally open and the common carries the battery +v to the inverter while the coil of the relays are connected from +v and -v of the CC light Load which energised the relays. When battery voltage drop to the set voltage cutoff it deactivate the relays causing the inverter to shot down. Until the battery voltage rise again to set Load reconnect before it can power on again. Note that the relay rating must be above your Load requirement, if not parallel them to match your requirements. |

Second, they are all neatly arranged inside a nylon wrap (in fours), no metal shrapnel or screws are located anywhere near it. Haba! Na wa for Lithium o.
If I will go ahead with the diy pack, I must first get a welder to make a metal container and na for inside that I go put am. I cannor come and be having heart attack. I think that ur battery has BMS in it. Just don't charge above 14.6volt are good to go. |

generationz: Which do you think is better
A 48ah lifepo4 battery or a 100ah deep cycle battery? For availablity of power at shorter Life is the deep cycle battery but longer life is the LiFePo4 battery that is, 1. Safe usable energy for the 48ah at 80% Depth of discharge (DOC)= 48ah X 12v =576wh - 20%SOC( i.e 0.2 X 576 =115.2) , therefore 576 - 115.2=460wh. While 2. Deep cycle battery at 50% DOC= 100ah X 12v X 0.5= 600wh. BUT a. Lead battery has shorter Life cycle of <500cycle 50%DOC while LiFePo4 battery has longer life cycle of more than 2000cycle at 80%DOC. b. Traditionally Lead acid battery always want to be charged at each cycle. If there are not fully recharge, there are considered to be in Partial State of Charge which causes the battery to be sulphated Leading to premature death of the battery while LiFePo4 battery survive in partial state of charge. c. LiFePo4 is lighter in weight than Lead battery. In conclusion I will prefer if you have two of that 48ah it will give you the energy requirements that the 100ah Deep cycle battery would have given and still last longer than the lead battery. |

lexi28: hi, quick question. does your pwm controller charge the batteries adequately?
I guess you connected the batteries in series to match the 250w panel (which is a 24v panel). are your batteries 3s or 4s?
the 250wp has Imp of about 7amps? how long does it take for your batteries to charge.
thanks. It's connected in parallel ( can also be connected in series) my PWM CC can take up to 50v Max. 600watt for 12v system and 1050watt for 24v system. For charge time it's depends on depth of discharge but normally on good sunny day my battery charged before Noon. |

microgiant: Please, I have some questions,
1. Can this battery be connected in series and/or parallel?
2. Are you changing directly (i.e. not using the follow come charger) from solar panel to PWM CC to battery?
3. Please, can you spare some time to make a sketch diagram of the connection?
I have one(1) used and three(3) new batteries which have not been utilized, and hope you will help me use it, especially the solar charging aspect. Thanks. 1. Yes it can be connected in both parallel and series 2. The inverter is built by me without changer, I only charge it with sun using the pwm cc, by setting the upper voltage at 14.6v (or 29.2v for 24v system). 3. My charge controller is for 12v or 24v auto voltage recognition, every is written on the charge controller, I will sketch and send you later. 4. For your battery I will advise you use the same type and age ( new together or old together) because LiFePo4 battery voltage sensitive and can explode if charge voltage is exceeded. If your system is 12v, then parallel the 3 new ones and sell the older one but if 24v system Buy another one to add to the three to connect 2s2p. Or better still charge the 4 battery fully charged at 14.6v (check your battery labels for max. Charge voltage) then leave them for 24hrs then read the various battery voltage using digital meter. If the there remains the same then you can use them together. |

I envy you guys that can just couple things together and get what you want. All those wires dey fear me. Make I no go burn house down.
Please, help a sister out where did you get the batteries?
I believe I can use a. Ups for this. You can use ups but with some modifications like 1. Battery cable, 2. Adding Fan, Adding MOSFETs if there is space or use a higher rate ups for 1/3 load ( 1,500 VA for 500va Load). 3. Use external charger solar system for charging. Then you are good to go without any problems. But for me I can build mine from scratch. |

But lead battery should be charged at that voltage except for equalisation charging. |

Dishtech: Sorry for coming late! For those that need the calculation here i come! From your previous information the dish size is 2.4m (240cm) and the depth is 37.5cm. Looking at my diagram (fig.1 and fig.2), from parabola calculation, X= r*r/4F where X is the depth of the dish, r is the radius = 240/2 =120cm F is the focal length. substituting in the formula, 37.5=120*120/4F, 37.5*4F=14400, 150F=14400 F=14400/150, F=96cm From Pythagoras, Hypotenuse (H) square = Opposite (f) square + Adjacent (r) square i.e, H*H = f*f + r*r, where f = F-X f = 96-37.5 = 58.5 H^2 = 58.5*58.5 + 120*120, = 3422.25 +14400 H^2 = 17822.25 H = Square root of 17822.25 H = 133.5cm. This is assume length of tripod. but looking at the second diagram, to be continue.... The actual tripod length square = (Focal length - depth) square + (dish radius - scalar ring radius) square, i.e H^2 = (F-X)^2 +(r - sr), where Scalar ring radius sr = 16.5/2= 8.25cm (i.e C-band scalar ring radius) H^2 = 58.5^2 + (120-8.25)^2 H^2 = 3422.25 + 12488.0625 H^2 = 15910.3125 H = square root of 15910.3125 = 126.136 therefore the length of the tripod H = 126.1cm provided that the information you gave on the dish depth and diameter is correct. |

brainhack: Good day people, i am quite new to this. I need Gurus in the house to please answer some questions.
1) i have a TV samsung J6300, the specs says it has DVB-T2 tuner. can i get free-to-air channels on it using just a dish or there is something additional i need?
2) if i decide to get a DSTV decorder for example, can i use this connection (DSTv come with a dish) to get other free-to-air Channels (channels not on DSTV)? 1) Know that DVB-T2 is Digital Video Broadcast via Terrestrial so is just like Startimes or Gotv decoder or only when Nigeria migrate to digital broadcasting then your DVB-T2 will be useful. 2)Your second question is not clear, but if you are asking of using Dstv Decoder for free-to-air? it is no! Or you want to use the dish for attachment of free-to-air or free-to-air with a free-to-air decoder? then is Yes! |
