ShowYourCertificate: Everyone is talking about Dieziani Allison-Maduekwe in the Buhari's London trip and have seem to lose focus on Buhari himself and his purpose for that emergency trip. We should still remember his previous trip to London during the electioneering campaign where it was alleged that Buhari went there to seek Medical attention. His wife even confirmed that Buhari went to London to "rest" in the middle of the campaigns.
Now this is repeating itself. Nigerians should be bothered about this. How often should Buhari be jetting off on emergency basis to London for personal reasons? We need to be concerned because he will be the president of this great country for four years.
Barcanista, I need your input on this. Also the floor is open for Nairalanders to comment. Hmmmmmm.Does d op av brain or av it n decided to use his anu to think? Some pple r daft that daftness sef go feel embarrassed. |
Politics › Re: Transparency Int’l Rates President Jonathan Govt As Best to Buhari, Obj Govt by disloman(m): 5:46am On May 23, 2015 |
anwo247: According to Transparency International’s data from 1979 till date, the tenures of both General Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo were more corrupt than the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The data also showed that under the administration of President Jonathan, Nigeria has recorded its best score in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) since 1979. This is in complete contrast to the sordid picture of rampant corruption being painted by the opposition, ardent critics of the Jonathan administration and much of the media in the last few years – especially in the build up to the general elections.
But the point that the figures from Transparency International make so clearly is that, in comparative terms, Nigeria is actually much less corrupt today, and perceived globally to be much less corrupt today, than it has been in the last 35 years – including under the regimes of General Buhari and President Obasanjo, both of who wear the toga and chant the mantra of anti-corruption. Shockingly, according to the TI data, President Obasanjo’s first tenure had the worst scale of corruption during the 35 years period between 1979 and 2015.
The TI Corruption Perception Index is a rating of countries from 1 to 100 showing their corruption scale. A rating of 1 is the worst and rating of 100 means a country is completely free of corruption. The pass mark is 50 and any country scoring below 50 is considered a corrupt country.
In the year 2000, Nigeria was ranked the most corrupt country in the world – and improved marginally in 2001 and 2003 when it was rated the second most corrupt nation in the world in the TI’s Corruption Perception Index. This was certainly not under the watch of President Jonathan.
Since 2012, Nigeria has made steady improvements in the CPI. Indeed, under President Jonathan, for the first time in decades, Nigeria is not in the list of 1-10 most corrupt countries in the world.
In the 2014 Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, issued in December, Nigeria was ranked 136 out of 175 countries surveyed in the report. This ranking placed Nigeria, alongside five other countries, as the 39th most corrupt country in the world. This is Nigeria’s best ranking in the last four years.
With this ranking, Nigeria leapfrogged eight countries within a space of one year – from the 31st most corrupt nation in 2013 to the 39th in 2014. This may be regarded by cynics as a small achievement: but it represents a big step in the right direction.
Indeed, the administration of President Jonathan deserves some commendation for the positive steps it has taken, and the modest achievements it has made so far, in the war against corruption – rather than the vengeful knocks it is receiving from various quarters.

saxywale: The truth is the Nigerian automobile market still has a long way to go. Most of our mechanics are quacks and people patronize them alot. Then why would you buy a brand new Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru e.t.c then drive it to kazeem's place to fix , these guys can't fix new model cars as these cars are out of their league. They learnt their trade on datsun and other extinct car models. Also vital components in new vehicles are covered by warranty till around 100,000 km or 5 years, whichever comes first. So your stories ain't adding up.
Then, if you can also afford a new car, then you shouldn't have a problem repairing the car in a standard service centre operated by the car manufacturer or an assigned dealer. U r right to an extend but I will also blame d owners too. From my little observation n what I've experienced,Car owners always look 4 cheap service n that's what u get when u can't afford to pay 4 a good service.Kazeems av a lot of options in d market. |

DECOtech: Last week, I drove a Toyota corolla to Enugu. Due to my itinerary, I had to follow the Owerri route to Enugu.
I took off from Lagos with 45ltrs of petrol. my windows were wound down cos I didn't need the AC that early in the morning but on getting to Benin, the low fuel warning light came on. I was disappointed cos the corolla is not known for high fuel consumption. I pulled out my scanner and scanned the power train even though the CEL was not on and got no codes.
I bought another 45ltrs of fuel in Benin. This time, I needed the AC cos the weather had warmed up. I got to Enugu on half tank of fuel despite taking a longer route and using the AC.
Using the AC would demand more fuel but driving with your windows down will demand much more. It will takes a wise one to understand an utterance of a wise one. |

Politics › Tribunal Orders Service Of Petition Paper On Wike by disloman(op): 9:04pm On May 13, 2015 |
The All Progressives Congress and its candidate in the April 11 governorship election in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, have accused the governor-elect, Mr. Nyesom Wike, of evading service of the processes of their election petition seeking the nullification of the results of the poll. The petitioners made the allegation through their counsel, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), at the inaugural sitting of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Apo, Abuja on Wednesday. Akeredolu said all attempts by the bailiff of the court to effect service on Wike had been futile. He then urged the court, through an ex parte application, to allow the petitioners serve Wike through a substituted means of pasting the process on the wall of his house to avoid unnecessary delay of proceedings. In a short ruling, Justice Muazu Pindiga-led tribunal, granted the prayer of the petitioners and ordered that substituted service be effected on the respondent either by pasting the court processes on the gate of his house or that of the PDP secretariat in Rivers State or in Abuja. He said the efforts to serve the court papers on the governor-elect failed due to alleged non-cooperative attitude of the people in Wike’s Port-Harcourt and Abuja homes. Akeredolu said the court bailiff had on a number of occasions visited Wike’s residences in Abuja and Port Harcourt but was always turned back at the gate by the governor-elect’s agents when they found out the bailiff’s mission to serve court processes. The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, however, said he could however not establish “whether it was Wike that instructed his agents not to accept service.” After granting an order of substituted service, the panel then adjourned the case but stated that it would communicate the next hearing date to parties to the petition. Through their petition, Peterside and the APC are challenging the victory of the PDP candidate on grounds of alleged irregularities and massive rigging that characterised the election. Other defendants in the petition are the Independent National Electoral Commission and the PDP. There are other four petitions challenging Wike’s victory before the tribunal. The other petitioners are Charles Harry of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Tonye Princewill of Labour Party, Kemka Elenwo of KOWA Party and Minaibim Harry of the Social Democratic Party. Earlier in his inaugural speech, the chairman of the panel, Justice Pindiga, had appealed to parties and the media to cooperate with the tribunal in the discharge of its duties.
