So no need waiting for the consulate. That's a good one.

Meanwhile, how does one know the steps to take if the consulate does not send the instructions?

Yes, no need to wait for the consulate. The information the consulate sends is available online. Somebody advised joining visa journey which is absolutely correct. I found help there after searching NL for a longtime without help

Exactly.

To add to what you just said. Even though it's not explicitly stated that you submit evidence of ties to Nigeria, it's advisable you present such if you have any. It's not a crime to provide more evidence than required.

There are many cases of a beneficiary who is not working and has no financial records but was granted the K1 Visa. However there have been cases of refusal or administrative processing due to that. Imagine a scenario where the VO has little doubts of the petitioner being financially buoyant enough and also have little doubts about their true love for each other. Don't you think having strong ties to Nigeria will convince the VO that the beneficiary truly loves the petitioner and is willing to leave his country where he is doing well to be with his fiancee? Don't you also think that that strong tie is a form of assurance for the VO that the beneficiary would return back to Nigeria in case he breaks up with his fiancee before the 90days?

In summary, it's not a must the beneficiary must be working or must have a bank account for him to be granted a K1 Visa. It's not also a compulsory requirement to submit any documents proving such. But if one has a bank account with lots of transactions in it (even if the account is in the red) or is working, I advice he comes with evidence proving such. After all he submitted a DS-160 Non-immigration Form during his application for K1 Visa and in the form he provided info on his place of work and how much he earns on a monthly basis. It's not a crime if he goes with those documents as evidence to backup what he filled in on that non-immigrant form.

cc: sharpman1

I understand your POV. But I think it's a bit too complicated. Just bring what the consulate requests. And from what I have seen on the checklist, no employment info is needed. There are already a lot to carry. Follow the checklist to avoid complications

Good morning Guys,

I have been contacted by the embassy concerning my K1 Visa application and was told to make payments, fill My DS-160 form and then schedule my interview date.

I have done all except scheduling interview date. Every time I go the ustraveldoc site to schedule an interview, it tells me there is no available appointment date. What could be the problem? Should I still wait or did I do something wrong?

How I wish I had seen this earlier. You don't need to inform the US consulate to book your interview in Nigeria. Once you get your NVC number you book appointment.

You must wait six months after your most recent interview before reapplying for another B1/B2 visa.

Hello LagosNIV,

Is there any immigrant page on here? The last one I remember is/was closed. We need help on that aspect as well

You are asking for something very very big but it is possible. First of all, b1/b2 is getting increasingly harder to get these days so I won't advise your for that invite thing you are thinking about. If you want to legally stay in the USA, there are so many visa classes to use but you can use the student visa or the fiance or spousal visa. Since you want to go to school, you can use the student visa and always change to the spousal/fiance visa by finding love lol. With that, you can invite your family members.

,someone I discussed dis my travel issue with told me he will contact his relative in USA DAT as spent like 20 yrs to send both of us invite cos he too plan travelling...that we will travel with it n then find our level wen we get there.....I think it will be visiting visa invite we will travel with and then sort things out when we land....

I don't want to do anything illegal cos of my future....pls is there a way I can convert this visiting visa to another visa that can allow me legally stay in USA,work and even in future relocate my family to join me in USA. ....

Note:am 23 yrs with bsc accounting, av 1yr post nysc work experience... n don't mind going back to skul wen I land in usa. ....pls

Pls I have questions. The k1 process took how many months.

When your fiancee visited you in nigeria, did you guys get married in Nigeri a or not?

The marriage is done in the US within 90days of arrival there. You can do a court wedding to legalise the union and return to naija for a big wedding when you have applied and gotten an Advanced parole which is like 6-8 months later.

Any marriage in Nigeria means the couple would have to do the IR1/CR1 visa

If someone seeking a K1 gets married, they can no longer apply for K1, they go straight to the PR process (which seems longer btw)

What is PR process?

K1 process takes like 6-9months (5-6 months).

Got the marriage license. The first question the clerk asked was if either of us has been married before (if you or your spouse has been married before, they want to see proof of divorce, separation or death cert before they proceed)

it cost $50. Looks like this (sample from the internet)
.

we filled the form, she typed it, show us a sample to confirm the details are correct. She printed it. we signed . she placed it in the envelope then gave us additional information and also list of JP's in the city or we can wait till the end of the month if we prefer to be married in the city hall as they have no free date till then.

Clerk handed it over to Lady K and we left for home. We got home, Lady K went on the citizen and immigration service website to look at the forms, the process and the cost of the Adjustment of Status (i am still yet to familiarize myself with the process i am kinda lazy when it comes to paper work lol). The website has the option of ordering the forms free of charge (instead of printing all the pages) by mail (https://www.uscis.gov/forms).

The next step is calling the JP's to find out their charges and who has the most flexible time for the particular date I have in mind (Lady K's birthday is coming up in few days. She has no idea what i am planning. i don't even act like i remember)

oh, the license is valid for 90days. we have to be married withing 90days (i believe)

okay, if it's going to expire in 90 days and the K1 process takes 5 months to process, would that not mean getting another one? how much effect will this have on the application especially for some of us who because of distance can't necessarily meet out spouses and as such cant 'jointly' go to the license registry

In my own opinion, the AOS will always be there and nothing will happen to it. The only thing I think that can be the problem is the chain based immigration(filing for siblings or parents). As far as other is concerned, You have no problem. You file, You get your work authorization then your green card and you will be be fine.

One thing I hate about this AOS is it makes you worry so much about little things and always checking for immigration news lol.

You don't have to be worried, You will just be fine

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if K3 application is still on in Nigeria.

I would also like to know if an individual who has been denied on B1 B2 visa severally would have problems with a K1 visa (even though I pass all the requirements needed for this class of visa I.e calls n chats, receipts of gifts, travel history with my fiancee e.t.c.) or the person should just do a CR 1 visa.

Finally, I would like to know how long K1 or CR 1 visa takes to get completed.

Please I would need answers from anybody as I am starting to get frustrated with the whole process. Private messages or emails are welcomed. Thanks.

Never mind. Went through the thread and got my answer on this issue. Apply and attach nee passport to old passport for interview.

But I have another issue VO. I have been denied 4 times in the last 2 years for b1 b2 visas (lack of economic ties). And I am currently applying to US schools for fall 2018 session. I hope these will not affect or clash with my K1 visa my fiancee is planning on filing for me? I would also like to know which is shorter, filing for a spouse or filing for a fiance as my fiancee intends to visit this year and we are planning on carrying out a court wedding.

Good morning Vo,

My fianceé is planning on filing for a K-1 visa for me asap. The issue I have is that my passport will be expiring in August 2018. Is it advisable she continues with the application or wait till I get a new passport?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Good morning,

We appreciate your questions on the immigrant visa process in this forum and understand that questions will arise. We also recognize that the process can be stressful. However, please refrain from asking the same question multiple times. VO cannot check the forum every day. We do our best to answer the questions as quickly and as thoroughly as possible. Repeat questions will be removed from the forum.

Similarly, please refrain from using this forum for questions related to B1/B2 visas, F1 student visas, and other nonimmigrant visa classes. There are separate forums for these questions.

The folk seems desperate. He said he was denied in the UK. Instead of doing the right thing, he is looking for pathway. Of what use is the pathway and graduate certificate to a Master's holder from a UK uni grin grin

Why is your reasoning so immature and myopic? I'm baffled to say the least.
First, there is nothing like natural academic progression. An individual can have as many degree he/she desires as long as the person is able to defend it. If I decide to do x amount of master's or even b.sc., I dont think there is a problem with that.
Secondly, all I asked for was advise and I think thats what this group was created for and not to look down on people. If you don't have a solution to an issue, keep shut and waka pass.

Graduate Pathway programs are ideal for international students who need additional English language

you are not only from an English speaking country Nigeria you also states you have a master from UK (another english speaking country ) .

Which kind yeye agent advice you to this, that agent no know e work. this move is like going to the embassy just to dash them your application fee. This is highly not advisable in my opinion . if you are late for spring then simple, work towards another semester. if your sponsor cannot wait the option to apply to any program is stiĺ not the best because that might just be another rejection added to your record which you really don't need after 4 times

Which will you advice. A graduate certificate prprogram
or a graduate pathway program?
