Good evening guys.
My Fiancé is 17 years older than me and he has three kids. We have met and he just returned back to America and now he wants to file a K1 visa for me but while I was going through some posts on visajourney to know more about this visa, I got to know our age gap is a red flag, him having 3 kids is another red gap and him being divorced is a red flag and now we have 3 red flags. He’s not black too and who knows if that is another red flag! I am confused and I don’t know what to do, has anyone here been approved with red flags like this too?

There is nothing wrong with your case at all. Your fiancé can file for you as long as you can prove existing relationship between you guys and he has the financial capability to support you. Whether he is 17yrs older or has three kids or white/black will not stop you from getting the visa.

You should be happy that he has finalized his divorce and you have actually met which is a plus for you. Don’t listen to any kill joy who would love to be in your shoes at the moment and are just being jealous. Work on knowing your fiancé and his kids as well as anything that concerns his life very well before your interview and you’d be absolutely fine. All the best

Hi guys, does issuing visa takes this long? I have been stuck in application received since Monday. I am starting to worry. Legitbachelor djfrancis

Bro, the best thing for you to do now is to remain calm. Remember, I waited for 22 days to have my visa in hand. I was becoming frustrated sef. I’d advise that you stop checking everyday and await the text message on your phone. Or just limit to checking once in 2 days

May yours be shorter in Jesus Name. Amen.

I've commenced the process for obtaining Drivers License. Went to the DPS with my international passport, social security card and proof of residence. The queue was quite long. Waited for close to 4 hours before it got to my turn! Aside the documentations, I did the vision test and the Drivers written exam test which I passed. I also had to go do the driving practise test which I passed.

However I was given a license with a validity of a month! This is because they said my K1 visa is valid for only a month angry

Well, I guess I'll just manage it till it expires then I can go and renew.

I advice you go get your Drivers License after getting your social security number. Note however that each State within the US has different requirements for obtaining Drivers License.

That’s weird. My permit expires in 2023 and my license expires in 2023 too.

Did you take your marriage certificate with you?

I was denied.
Had my interview yesterday but it was denied.
I have been married before at d Local Govt Registry but I did not get a Divorce Decree from high court. I only presented a divorce document from the local govt. I didn't know I had to go to the high court to get a divorce decree. Apart from that, all my documents were complete. If I had said I did traditional marriage, I would have scale through. Knowledge is power.
No question is too small to ask. Always ask question for clarity sake.
The CO said my only option is to get married here after getting d necessary document. And then file for a CR1.
My Fiancée is going to talk to a lawyer about it.
I'm really devastated right now.

I want to specifically thank legitbachelor for all your spontaneous responses and everyone here on this platform for all your support advice and feedbacks.

I seem to be d old one. I take a brown. Love you all

Sorry about the denial. Please advise your fiancé to visit you, get married and file for the CR1 asap.

It’s like the COs in the embassy have been changed. The questions being asked at the embassy from what I can see here look a lot more technical/harder than what I experienced on my own interview day.

Simple advice guys, ask a lot of questions before your interview date(that’s why LegitBachelor in his wisdom created this group so that those who have gone through the process can advise/assist in any way those who are yet to), prepare well (carry every evidence you have concerning the interview process. There is nothing worse than being asked for evidence and you answer by saying it isn’t in your possession. It will put you off straight), be confident and pray.

Drenimarcus I hope you are ready? Lol. Wish you success.

If you havent gotten your SSN, apply for it now. You can also apply for your learners permit and ID depending on your current state of residence.

Most importantly, file for your adjustment of status, EAD/AP as soon as possible.

Congrats

Hello everyone, been awhile. Just wondering where una dey?

So we got our visa approved today all glory belongs to God Almighty.

It all started with a 3am wakeup alarm. Bath the babies. (My son had his shower yesterday night so it was easy for us this morning as he just brushed his teeth, rinse his face and dress up so as myself and my mum.

We left home around 4:24am and got to the embassy car park around to 5am. (The car park opens 5:00am ish.)

Waited at the entrance till around 7:00am before they started calling non immigrant /immigrants in.
We were scanned at the point of entry before going in and were directed to the computer section and are given nos.

The officers directed us in and were called upon to submit my documents
1. Passport
2. DS 160
3. Affidavit form
4. Birth.cert. (copies)
5. Tax
6. Passport photos e.t.c

Took our fingerprint and wait for our nos.to be called.

After like 2 and a half hrs, we were called and this was our coms.below;

Me: good morning ma'am
VO: good morning
Who.is the person waiting for you?
Me:.my.fiancee
VO: How and were do you meet?
How many times have you seen in person ?
Where and when?
Do you have pics to show me?
Where did you take this pic?
You have kids for him right?
Can I see their birth certificate and US passport ?
Me: no I did not bring it since I am the one having the interview, I actually thought you would have same on your system.
VO: you should bring it along in case of next time.

Questions continue
What does he do?
Has he ever been married before?
Tell me about his life over there?
Show me pix of your son since baby till now.
(She keeps typing all along ) and the next thing I heard was i have approved you. Issued me a white paper and asked me to wait 5 working days for me to get our passport at DHL office here in VI.
We said thank you and we left.

He has done it for me x2
What my .... (sing with me pls)

Congratulations!!!

Don’t really know, she applied on Dec 5th, she is using a lawyer, I will try to confirm from her if she receive any text message

This is a problem with using lawyers. I feel they delay the process instead of fast tracking it. All they do is input the info given to them and submit it, nothing else.

Some lawyers either dont input the info correctly especially the address so the NOAs go to different places or i have heard of instances where the lawyer didnt even submit the application.

If she applied in December, then should have gotten her NOA1 by now. Engage with the lawyer asap to know what's going on

I'm yet to get my drivers license but I can tell you what I think are required. I'm not 100% sure though.

The documents required are your social security number, your passport photo, your international passport, your drivers license and evidence of place of residence (this I will use the mail I got from the bank, my marriage license and mail from SSN as they all have my residential address written on them) and i94 printout.

Note however that you must have resided in the State for 30 days before applying for Drivers license.

Bro, you can drive with an international drivers license in some states.

The SSN/Bank mail where you have your name and address printed on isnt always sufficient (i presented mine here in NY and it was rejected), your US bank card is accepted instead. Your Nigerian drivers license is not needed when you want to get a drivers license here

This depends on the state regulations where you reside. The best thing is to visit the DMV website or office closest to you.

Guys, I'm now in the States cheesy

I entered the States (Dallas Fort Worth) with a one way flight. Was anticipating having issues with the airlines and was ready for them. Was ready to lecture them on what K1 Visa means, lol. But I didn't have any issues at all.

I made sure my medical envelope was in my backpack. When we arrived, I was directed straight to the CBP guys who took the envelope and tore it right in my very eyes. I was directed to a room to wait. I met like 5 guys there. After a while, it was my turn and they gave me back my passport along with a yellow form (I think it's for agric quarantine) and took me straight to the luggage section where I'm to claim my luggage. Was told to go straight to the agric section once I get my luggage.

Luckily my luggage was not searched. Was only asked if I came with fresh seeds which I said no. I only had processed food which have been partly cooked and/or grounded. So they just passed my luggage through an X-ray machine and let me go.

And that was it! My finacee was waiting for me on the other end. It was so emotional for me.

Thanks guys for the active participation. I promise to still keep in touch. This visa journey is a continuous one. Will always keep you all updated. I enjoin us to do the same too.

Regards.

Congratulations.

Welcome to the AOS stage.

Also when is the best time to book in, my interview is still April 24th??

Where you met and how you met are two different things.

Where you met? Give exact location

How you met? The circumstance of the first meeting or What were you two doing at your first meeting.

Most times, the question comes together e.g Tell me where and how you met? In this case, you’d state the location and the circumstance of the first meeting you both had.

My own answer when I did my interview was.... We met while we were both students at the University.

Simple and short

Expect to answer more questions like when, what you were both doing then, which university (if your case is like mine) etc

Here's a sample of the letter I wanna use but (1). I do not understand the second paragraph. Why would I marry in my country, won't it negate the very essence of the application since it's fiance and not spouse visa? and (2). I don't have chat records wiv him, we talk more via phone calls. So I don't think the third paragraph will work as a result. Will have to scrap that out, or what do you suggest?

Better still, what other supporting document(s) would you suggest I add to the letter as proof. (3) can my dad be the witness to signature? Thanks

Cc @sharpman1 @djfrancis

Ps: we have done our introduction not engagement (traditional marriage) so no bride price was paid.

To be honest, this letter of intent is a tad too packed. There are simpler and more straightforward versions online. Change the adjectives to yours and you'd be fine.

If you have only call records, take screenshots of the calls. How come no chats at all though? You can also submit passport stamps showing entry and exit of meeting, pictures, receipts to show that you guys were at the same place at the same time

As for the dad question, I and my fiancee actually got our dads to write and sign a letter of consent to marry. We just wanted to go overboard but I don't think it was necessary so you don't have to do it

Hi guys, a quick one here

My fiance sent out our application August last year. He was contacted Jan this year for RFE(request for evidence) which is that the beneficiary should send an evidence that she intends to marry him within 90 days of arrival.

As regards the italicized sentence I need assistance, upon research I realised I wud have to write a statement(letter) which isn't an issue but the fact that my signature must be wet (these I do not understand).

I wud appreciate ur prompt response. Thanks

Cc @LegitBachelor, @djfrancis @sharpman1 and other concerned thread mates.

Hello, hope this isn't coming too late. The letter doesn't have to be wet. You can scan letter of intent to your fiancé. The only thing to be wary of is that your are to submit individual Lester of intent. Do NOT type one and sign together. Sign your and let him sign his then submit.

You may also need an updated one later to be taken to the consulate for your interview.

I noticed that the DHL Pickup Centre in Victoria Island is the only pickup centre provided on the white form given me.

I had chosen Isolo as my desired pickup centre as its closer to me. But I'm made to understand that Isolo is not applicable for Immigrant Visa. So I'll have to "travel" once again to the Island to get my passport. I had traveled there for my medicals and also traveled there for my interview. It's well cheesy

I also chose Isolo as it is close to my naija address and even went there only to be referred to VI. I went to Isolo early so I was still able to meet the VI office opened. Very stress free collection process.

Guys, I was approved!!!

I'm so grateful to God for his mercies and blessings. The interview in itself was very brief. None of my documents or pictures was checked during the interview proper. Was just asked questions on dates. Questions like.....when did we started talking, when did we see each other in person, when did I propose. It was a smooth sail compared to the way others were grilled.

There were over 40 of us, but only 2 (that I'm aware of) were outrightly denied. Several were placed on administrative processing (visa wasn't denied though). They were given back their passport and requested to provide additional information before their visa can be issued. However many were approved at the spot and their passport retained for visa stamping.

Even though my interview time was short, I was there from 5am till 12noon. This is despite the fact that my appointment time read 6am shocked. The reason for this was because they gave priority to family members with little kids and elderly so they gave them numbers before me even though I came before them. Also another reason for the delay was because only 2 consular officers were interviewing us. Before each interview, the consular officer will go through the file thoroughly before he or she calls the applicant. It was a tiring wait but a fruitful one and I bless God for everything.

My advice to those going for the interview, just be yourself. You have nothing to fear as long as your relationship is genuine. Your fiance/petitioner, who is an American citizen, has every right to love and get married to anyone of his or her choice, whether a fellow citizen or an alien.

So relax, your fiancee chose you, so you will get the visa. Just get all your documents and commit everything to God.

Congratulations bro. Thank God for you. The truth is that It is easy for those who prepare well and or are genuine.

Welcome to America. Will be waiting for you at the airport lol
Travel advice, If you are coming asap, get a winter jacket in Naija. It is below zero.

Congrats Legit. I am so happy for you.

@ legit and all please I sake your advice. We received an email from the embassy yesterday and I make payment today at gtb. Please what is the next step to take? (Pls give me a step by step of what to do. I am a nursing mother of two baby boys and a 7yrs old boy. The stress is on me as I have no one around to help)

When do i book appointment for Medicals? Can I go for Medical before getting an appointment date?

On my profile page, I was asked of the receipt no, do I enter the receipt no and process to booking appointment ? I have not submitted my 160 form though i have filled and at reviwe stage but need to go to a cafe around to sign and submit so that I can get a print out once. (Been doing this on my phone)

If I don't get an interview date, please what do I do? As the expiry date is 18th Feb.

After paying the fee at GTbank, submit your DS 160 and book your interview. Go for the medicals after booking your appointment.

Let me drop my brief transcript quickly. I applied outside of Nigeria where I am a permanent resident. My appointment was 8:15am today. I thought it's the same way we do it in Nigeria. I left for the embassy and got to the check point at 7:05am. The armed security guys turned me back to park somewhere till 8:00am. At 8am I went again and was allowed in. I was expecting to see mammoth crowd typical of Nija but lo and behold. we are not up to 10 on the queue. Even Majority of us are non citizen but residents working here. I had visited the US in 2014 for a convention and am going again for the same. Below is the transcript, even shorter than the first visa I got in Lagos.

V.O: Good morning
Me: Good morning
V.O: I would need to take your finger print ( I did both hands)

V.O: Can I see your previous passport.
Me: Sure( I gave him- he checked my previous US Visa and other expired visas and stamps. He checked my current one, saw my UK visa on it.)

V.O: You only visited the US once?
Me: Yes

V.O: What do you do here?
Me: I am an ...............at the University of XYZ

V.O: So you are teaching .........at the University
Me: Yes
V.O: Why are you going to the US now?
Me: I am attending the .............. Convention in Atlanta, Georgia

V.O: How many days will you be staying?
Me: 4 days
V.O: Just 4 days?
Me: Yes
V.O: Your Visa is approved. Pick it up on so so day. He stamped the date on the token given to me when I entered the interview room.

Good luck to Naija applicants.

No document was requested just like my previous one.
