PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 8:22am On Jan 17, 2025
Northerners saw through your gimmicks
helinues:
And has it triggered one yet?
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 8:16am On Jan 17, 2025
Yes. It can trigger violence
helinues:
Is there any big deal in relaying the history on the remembrance day?
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 8:10am On Jan 17, 2025
1966 !

This is 2025!

Actions of 30yrs old with youthful exuberance shouldn't travel forever
helinues:
Was it only the northerners that was affected in the 1966 coup?
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 8:06am On Jan 17, 2025
This thread, alongside Reno and FFK seeks to trigger the North against present day Igbos.

You guys want present day Igbos to pay for what their forefathers more than paid for
helinues:
Then create a thread about that or what issue are you having with this thread
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 8:01am On Jan 17, 2025
I'm not denying anything. I am saying the Northerners have more than gotten their pound of flesh in the retaliation they made.

Its enough
helinues:
So because you don't want to take responsibility, is that the reason you are denying it!
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 7:55am On Jan 17, 2025
Nzeogwu, Ifeajuna were 30yrs old. Do you know if they even had children who would inherit their fathers sin?

I cannot take responsibility for what happened long before me and of which my parents had no hands in
helinues:
Stop denying it and take responsibility. That's what's expected from you guys
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 7:48am On Jan 17, 2025
Clearly, we can't get over Jan 1966 after 59yrs. So what should be done now?
helinues:
Saying it was mostly Easterners is another history re writing
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 7:46am On Jan 17, 2025
So you can punish the Kanuri people for Abacha sins?

You think the reprisals attacks were because of songs? What about the killings of the 40s and 50s of Igbos in the North? You're naive
pquaver:
I am igbo but e get Somethings WE Do that are provocative..was IT the Military igbos WHO Made Songs and bread to taunt the northerners? Was IT Military igbos WHO gloated with the murder of the sarduana.. If IT was northerners WHO did what happened in 1966 will u Take the Same stand U r talking today? Nna abeg come Off IT..let truth be told..ndigbo Made mistake.. Accept IT..
PoliticsRe: Opinion: Boko Haram Terrorism Surge After Bauchi Governor Threats by DMerciful(m): 7:34am On Jan 17, 2025
Separate this failed union to save lives
Biodun556:
I observed that after Bauchi state governor threatened to cause anarchy as a result of tax reform bill, there have been increased in the activities of Boko haram and other terrorist groups.
PoliticsRe: The enemies of the igbo unity are uncomfortable that Ikwere man won PG Ohaneze by DMerciful(m): 7:29am On Jan 17, 2025
If they're attacking Igbos, don't run and see what happens to you
Kreesxxx:
Na them oooo. The people showed us shege when they had the chance. Igbos asking Ikwerres to accept them is like asking black South Africans to go back to the era of Apartheid.
No one intentionally works into captivity especially when you have felt it before. My uncle was buried alive in front of our community by the Igbos. He was accused to be a spy for Nigerian Army. The sordid part of it is that he dug his grave himself.
PoliticsRe: The enemies of the igbo unity are uncomfortable that Ikwere man won PG Ohaneze by DMerciful(m): 7:26am On Jan 17, 2025
If there is attack on Igbos, you guys will also attack anybody that says he is Ikwerre.

An Ikwerre man shouting he is not Igbo will save him in the North or SW? If Yorubas that looked like Igbos were attacked by Yorubas in 2023 election invluding Edo people, is it Ikwerre they'd spare?
Obiedun:
ikwere is not Igbo. They are different ethnic groups
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 7:13am On Jan 17, 2025
It was mostly Easterners or people they perceived as Easterners. The reprisals were disproportionate yet still unsatisfied
helinues:
The 30k civilians wasn't a targeted tribe right? It was WAZOBIA
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 7:12am On Jan 17, 2025
The head of state was because he was in the military. What can the civilians do about it?

Did we put him there? He was even killed less than 6 months of being there
helinues:
Okay, who benefited from the coup, who became head of states after the coup?

Did the emerge head of state made any attempt of punishing the coup plotters?
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 7:10am On Jan 17, 2025
Before the war, they killed 30,000 mostly civilians as reprisals for 20 persons. Is that not enough?
helinues:
That should have been avoided if there wasn't a coup..

Moreover the Civil war was due to Ojukwu's over bloated egos. Why going into a war you are not well prepared for
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 7:08am On Jan 17, 2025
The officers might be sympathetic to Igbo leaders or someone failed to carryout his mission however they acted on their own.

Saying its an Igbo coup holds the entire Igbos responsible. This would have been the case if they were voted for and given mandate.
helinues:
How come no other Igbo leaders was killed while leaders from other regions was massacred?

Tagging the coup Igbo coup is what some of you are having issue with which is the best description. It was an Igbo coup. Simple as Abc
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 7:00am On Jan 17, 2025
You guys are narrating it to look like Igbos sent officers to kill Northern leaders.

Is this what happened?
helinues:
So if the event did happen, why are you guys pretending as if it never happened? What's the big deal in relaying the history on the remembrance day?
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 6:58am On Jan 17, 2025
Igbos lost 3 million people, is that not enough for you guys ?
helinues:
Pretence? Who are the pretenders here? Those who made everything in the past to look like they never happened and still want to rewrite history about the events others have records of
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 6:57am On Jan 17, 2025
Azikiwe is just one person. We can still do it today. The law is meant for man and not man for the law
helinues:
It should have, and again that blame goes to Nnamdi Azikiwe who bluntly rejected the secession clause in the Nigeria constitution
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 6:53am On Jan 17, 2025
There is nothing like collective punishment. The coup plotters were long dead before most Easterners were born. They were soldiers and had zero vote to represent anybody.

Why should people who knew nothing about the military take responsibility for military actions?

Even if we wanted to stop them, we do not have the power. There is absolutely no reason to hold the generality of Igbos accountable for action of few military officers
helinues:
Here we go

Foiled coup. Who got killed then? arrogant and ego won't just let some people accept their mistakes
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 6:48am On Jan 17, 2025
It wouldn't!

The bokoharam and bandits today, whats the issue with the North?
OkCornel:
Uncertain they had foreknowledge of the coup.

Who arrested the coup plotters?

As for Aguiyi Ironsi, he really messed up by being tribal with the whole stuff. An immediate execution of the coup plotters would have placated the Northern officers to an extent.
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 6:47am On Jan 17, 2025
After 59yrs. What now?
OkCornel:
Tribalism

Nwafor Orizu was meant to handover power to Dipcharima, a Northerner from Borno state.

However, he handed it over to his tribesman Aguiyi Ironsi.

Aguiyi Ironsi should have ordered an immediate execution of the coup plotters, but he soft pedalled.

I also learnt he constituted a cabinet without Northerners or South Westerners (I stand corrected on this).

Nwafor Orizu and Aguiyi Ironsi worsened the mess on ground.
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 6:46am On Jan 17, 2025
The coup cannot be undone but this unworkable union can be undone.

Lets push for this!
LegendHero:
The coup achieved the aim. Change the demographics of power and that was exactly what happened.
PoliticsRe: Who Foiled The January 15, 1966 Coup? by DMerciful(m): 6:44am On Jan 17, 2025
I asked you if the soldiers got mandate from the generality of Igbos, you couldn't answer
Godwin4444:
the coup was not foiled but it achieve its aim which is to kill leaders from other tribes n install an Igbo

They killed all other tribes leaders n made an igbo president so they achieved their aim
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 6:41am On Jan 17, 2025
More reason why the union should have been dissolved
Dindondin:
Victims and villains all lost squarely. Mistrust increased from that period.
PoliticsRe: Remembrance Day: Who Are The Victims, Who Are The Villains by DMerciful(m): 6:41am On Jan 17, 2025
Clearly, you guys don't wanna be in the same country. Why not dissolve this union of division? How long will the pretense of one country go on?

Can two walk unless they agree?
helinues:
It's annoying that those who made horrible mistakes in the past are not just interested in being remorseful or sober about it.

The said 1966 coup, who benefited from it, who became the head of state immediately after the coup.

Tribes from almost part of the country celebrated the remembrance day except......

No single tribe ever said something good about those who benefited from the coup, who was in charge after the coup or the people. How is it logical for everyone not to say anything good about you and yet......

The remembrance day issue should rest but those who are villains should stop forming victims..
PoliticsRe: Part List Of Over 300 People Killed In The July 29th 1966 Coup And Their Army No by DMerciful(m): 6:34am On Jan 17, 2025
Doesn't make sense for the people who lost 20 people to keep crying over the people who lost millions. It means they're crying over something else
Lifestone:
Biafra have been crying since the end of the civil war, you can't stop them. So let others mourn and don't bully them or tell them how to mourn
PoliticsRe: Part List Of Over 300 People Killed In The July 29th 1966 Coup And Their Army No by DMerciful(m): 6:33am On Jan 17, 2025
That shows the hatred has been there before the 1966 Jan coup
Lifestone:
Read history. It's attempts at dominating others. Only Yorubas can tolerate the tendencies that you guys are showing in SW.
PoliticsRe: Part List Of Over 300 People Killed In The July 29th 1966 Coup And Their Army No by DMerciful(m): 3:53am On Jan 17, 2025
Read a Biafra story by Federick Foresight
Roger3D:
Its currently not available on Amazon. I would have loved to get a hold of that book. All my reading has been from people who were either on the federal side or sympathetic to their cause. It would be refreshing to read about those sad events from the perspective of the Biafran side
PoliticsRe: Part List Of Over 300 People Killed In The July 29th 1966 Coup And Their Army No by DMerciful(m): 3:50am On Jan 17, 2025
How is it that the people who lost 20 persons are crying more than the people who lost 3 million?
Lifestone:
How do you tell those mourning how to mourn. They are crying over those who killed their loved ones, just the way the love ones of other coups cries at each anniversary the way they felt.
Shouting them down or telling them what to say only open the wound the more. Fact is fact you can't wish it a way. We all as a country should move on.
PoliticsRe: Part List Of Over 300 People Killed In The July 29th 1966 Coup And Their Army No by DMerciful(m): 3:47am On Jan 17, 2025
What about the Northen killings of Igbos of the 40s and 50s...what triggered them?
Lifestone:
The more you guys make this argument, the more you make matter worse, without the 15th January 1966, there won't be the Muritala Coup.
PoliticsRe: Part List Of Over 300 People Killed In The July 29th 1966 Coup And Their Army No by DMerciful(m): 3:44am On Jan 17, 2025
Because Nigeria refused to recover. Inspite of the millions of Igbos that died in the civil war, the West and North are still the most pained from that era. Doesn't make sense!

How many times do you hear Japanese reminding the US of Hiroshima and Nagasaki or pearl Harbor?
seunmsg:
Without the murders of January 15th, 1966, there wouldn’t have been a massacre on 29th July, 1966. The terrible acts committed by Ibo officers on 15th January 1966 killed the unity of Nigeria and the camaraderie in the military. Nigeria has not recovered from the affliction of that day.
PoliticsRe: Playing 1966 Coup Card Is A Waste Of Time Nigerians Are Becoming Wiser-isa Igon by DMerciful(m): 3:20am On Jan 17, 2025
You know nothing. Read an independent account of what happened before, during and after the civil war.
Godwin4444:
this is y we insist history must b told, u Igbos are twisting history n when people set d record straight u claim they are spreading hate

1) If not that u people are dumb, do u expect to fight people in war n at the same time u expect the people u are fighting to feed u?

When u know u wanted to fight a war, y not get your food n everything u need?

It is an idiot that will b fighting people n at d same time expecting d same people to feed him

2) the 20 pound lie have been bursted a million times, u Igbos withdrew all your money in Nigeria banks n changed it to Biafra pounds.

Now ask yourself if this made sense, u Igbos were leaving Nigeria then y will u still keep money in Nigeria bank?
What if u won d war, what will happen to d money?

Go n read history books, u Igbos withdrew all your money from Nigeria banks n converted it to Biafra pounds

The money given to u after the war was benevolence

3) see the reason y we yorubas are calling for reintroduction of history, yorubas returned all Igbo properties n were paid their rent for d 3 years

It was the south south that seized your properties because u drafted them into a war they never wanted and they lost n their properties destroyed

U Igbos can allign with whoever u want that's your business, all we want is live n let live

Allign with whoever u want but when u lose don't come n make noise
