First solution is demand for Tinubu resignation through massive protest. He has not shown the capacity, capability, integrity and political will to move Nigeria forward #TinubuMustGo helinues: Same arguments, same back and forth issues, not even the solutions to the numerous problems facing the country, na only gbas gbos left and right and yet we dey complain of hardship when we decided not to do anything to it.
From hence point, I will stop responding to the petty discussion on the forum, started like a week though but want to get more serious about it .

Is Peter Obi's middle name not "Onwubuasi"? Why doesn't he include it in his sign off? |

Lagos belongs to all Nigerians equally. If you don't like it, support Yoruba nation. Even after Yoruba nation is granted, you must pay Nigerian reparations to take Lagos for the billions that Nigerians invested in Lagos as assets LegendHero: Awon oponu dede.

All the money for the constituency will be taken by the guy for his own people while the “Yoruba But” continue to speak English on the internet.

Politics › Re: Very Long Queue At Mega Petrol Stations .what Is Happening In Nigeria by DMerciful(m): 3:17pm On May 09, 2024 |
Like I said, we need to elect competent leadership that would move Nigeria from consumption to production and gradually strengthen the naira. Fuel should not be more than N20 per litre so whatever is needed to make that possible, we should go that route. nairalanda1: Yes, and 40 years ago, most manufacturing was domestic, plus we were earning the kind of dollars we needed to keep naira at N1 to one dollar.
Even then it was bound to fall. BY 1982, the oil price crashed, by 1989, it was N6 to one dollar, by 1993, it was offically N21 on the black market above N70 to one dollar.
It is what happens when a nation's revenue is linked to one currency, and not to a diversifed economy. Like Nigeria, like most subsaharan african countries.
That is why I believe all our leaders were not good. They won't do what the big nations whose currencies are strong do. |

Politics › Re: Very Long Queue At Mega Petrol Stations .what Is Happening In Nigeria by DMerciful(m): 3:07pm On May 09, 2024 |
Why can't $1=N1? It was so 40yrs ago! nairalanda1: 1.Oga, I am not an agbado or obident, or atiku supporter.
2. NIgeria cannot sell fuel at N2 because if we do that, that means we would subsidise fuel to around at least N998 per liter...which means we would be spending 59 billion naira per day...in subsides. On petrol.
I don't need to tell you the kind of deficit it would cause. What we have now under agbado would look like chicken feed. Massive debt, that would in essence make us sell our souls to IMF and World bank. Maybe the souls of our generations yet unborn would be included.
3.Nigeria has a weak currency because we do not do what the countries with strong currencies do. Yes, and this APC government has not made things better.
That is why we cannot buy fuel at N2. |
Politics › Re: FG Plans Further VAT Increase, New Sharing Formula by DMerciful(m): 3:06pm On May 09, 2024 |
Truth is the govt is incompetent so everything looks like rocket science. If the government cannot create wealth, they should resign. You cannot fill a bucket with water thats already in the bucket SmartyPants: So it is V.A.T that will eliminate the middle class and force the rich down to the middle class? Lol. What are you saying?? V.A.T. is just a small percentage added to the price of certain items. There is no way V.A.T. can make people poor. At best, it may have a minuscule effect on spending habits, which won't be enough to make people poor or turn the rich into the middle class. VAT is not a tax on income so that is not even within the scope of the discussion.
The things you mentioned are not bad policies and I've not said they shouldn't be done. However, this is theory. in practice, recovering misappropriated funds is a process that can take many years. it is not reasonable to posit that this should be any government's main source of funding. Also, you don't seem to have a proper appreciation of the challenges in the oil industry - let me just put it to you that if the government could snap its fingers and sell more oil, of course it would. These are not challenges that are solved overnight. |
Business › Re: What Do You Think Should Be Done To Appreciate Naira ? by DMerciful(m): 3:02pm On May 09, 2024 |
If that is a solution, why is it rising again? What they did was sell treasury bills and used the money to defend the naira. You can actually use hundreds of billions of dollars to force down exchange rate to 200. Question is do you have that money? Even if you have, how sustainable is it? Again, there's no sustainable quick fix APC already ruined things...it will take a lot of hardwork to get exchange rate to fall genuinely lionshare: I don’t like to be condescending but you should only comment on what you understand.
You said no short term solution yet the price dropped from peak of N1950 to N1000 before depreciating to N1400. Which long term problem or short term solution is responsible for this changes? |

Fuel is sold in Canada for less than $2. Why can't fuel be sold in Nigeria for less than N2? nairalanda1: The harsh fact is that almost all our neighbours are paying way above N1000.
Nigeria does not have the cash to keep fuel forever cheap. Make we be honest...this is not about agbado, and even the agbado government is spending trillions to avoid telling themselves the truth.
The painful thing is that if we cut government spending and stop the nasty corruption that is affecting us, the money raised won't be enough to pay for subsides long term. Also, the amount we earn from crude...80% of our earnings...is not enough.
Either we face the truth...or we keep throwing money down a bottomless pit.
We have been told repeatedly since the 1980's...we no wan hear.
To all those that have quoted me over this fuel thing...here is why I talk the way I talk
The fuel subsidy dilema
Also, if you want to call me APC supporter, and all sorts of names , fine. Just know that at the end, we cannot sustain subsidy. It has nothing to do with the party in power, and everything to do with our precarious fiscal situation.
And if you are quoting me to abuse me, just know that I have never abused you, and you can disagree without abusing me, as some have done here. |

The rich you think you're taxing also help create jobs. You can't continue to wipe out the middle class and force the rich down to middle class. The points i raise to increase funds will produce more funds than required but the thieves in govt have no political will to execute SmartyPants: This is why I highlighted the part of the article that explains how this increase in VAT relieves the poor by refocusing taxes on luxury items. The people are already impoverished. More taxes causes more insecurity as people lose money and overall distress increases. Leave the tax system as it is for now. FIGHT CORRUPTION and recover the trillions of stolen funds. Block leakages in govt and drastically reduce the cost of governance(by 50%) Increase the abysmall 1.2 million barrel of crude to the 2.4 million we were doing during the PDP time. These will give the required funds. You cannot fill a bucket using water contained in that bucket SmartyPants: How does tax stop the country from moving forward? Is there any advanced or advancing country that doesn't collect taxes? How do you expect the government to do any of the things you mentioned without funds? Should all the funds come from oil exploration alone?
Let's take an example. To end or reduce insecurity drastically, do you not need to employ and equip your security forces? Where should the funds for this come from? |

Politics › Re: FG Plans Further VAT Increase, New Sharing Formula by DMerciful(m): 2:06pm On May 09, 2024 |
Govt should focus on ending or reducing insecurity drastically. Then focus on agricultural revolution. Next is production for local consumption and export. Focusing on tax wont move the country forward. SmartyPants: This is a sound policy that increase VAT yes but places the burden on the rich by taxing luxury products and services higher, and removing VAT from basic necessities altogether, while giving more of the VAT revenue to the States and LGs to support more direct provision of services to the people. Can you explain what your opposition to this idea is? I sincerely want to understand. |
