No need for emotional blackmail. The lawmakers will pass corruption conviction of 6yrs in prison.

All over the world, rape is 21yrs so why will they make it life imprisonment? They can as well make it death sentence because they wanna play to be gallery. But if they're caught, they use political power to escapen
maasoap:
Commensurate? When they rape your 13 years old kid, tell the judge how many years you want the convict to serve. That's someone's life ruined from the inception.

His innocence can be proven later as long as it is not death sentence.

Your family is not victim, I get it. The law is already there. If you still go ahead to commit the crime of rape, you will only have yourself to blame

I'd like to see your criticism of Atiku because he was the first to criticize the project.

I wanna know if you're obsessed with Obi!
AntiMarxist:
The coastal highway will not be an elephant project that was only concieved to siphon public funds under the guise of consultancy and design.

Maybe this is the expectation from you obidafts who are used to substandard or elephant projects as witnessed by Anambra people when Obi was their governor for 8 wasteful years.

Can any of you dare ask what happened to the Onistha urban rail that Obi embarked on ?
Politics › Re: Software Engineer Bags Life Imprisonment For Raping Minor On Children’s Day by DMerciful(m): 7:13am On Apr 26, 2024
I still think the lawmakers overreacted. The punishment is not commensurate with the crime and sometimes rape accusations are false. We have seen people that were framed and spent years in jail only for the accuser to confess later. Imagine the accuser never confessed and it was a life sentence!!!

People are afraid to challenge this in order not to be called rapist but since I have zero tendency for that, I can interrogate that punishment as extremely harsh
maasoap:
Lagos State house of assembly lawmakers specifically passed life sentence bill on proven case of rape and the gov at the time signed it into law.
The law is already there, just don't rape. Even the judges hands are tied. It is like when some Niger Delta states started making law that pass death sentence on kidnappers just because it has become too much.
This guy wasn't the first to be given life sentence and definitely he won't be the last person.

The USA said nothing when it mattered most.

Make dem park well! undecided
kahal29:
The 2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices says the last general election in Nigeria reflected the will of the populace despite widespread irregularities.

The report published by the bureau of democracy, human rights, and labour, US Department of State, highlights human rights practices and violations in different countries, including Nigeria.

The report stated that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) suppressed votes in Igbo-dominated areas during the March 2023 governorship election in Lagos.

“National elections were widely reported to have reflected the will of voters, despite technical and logistical difficulties, and some irregularities,” the report reads.

“Many independent observers assessed the results of the presidential, legislative, and state-level elections during the year reflected the will of voters, despite reports of voter suppression and vote buying, campaigning at polling stations, lack of ballot secrecy, violence, and intimidation.

“During the March 18 state election in Lagos, All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters reportedly intimidated and suppressed voters in Igbo-dominated areas, which Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi won in the February 25 national election.

“Viral videos on social media showed APC supporters in Ojo (a LGA in Lagos) threatening to attack ethnic Igbo voters presumed to be pro-Obi.

“In Eti-Osa, APC supporters also attacked journalists and, in some cases, shut down voting and prevented non-Yoruba voters from accessing polls. They similarly destroyed property and physically blocked voters in Amuwo-Odofin.

“According to videos posted on social media, police officers were present but failed to respond to attacks.”

The report said there was no evidence that individuals who perpetrated violence in Lagos during the election were arrested or prosecuted.

‘CORRUPTION IN GOVERNMENT‘

The report stated that the Nigerian government has not “consistently” implemented anti-corruption laws.

It said there was “widespread” corruption across the country, including in the judiciary.

“In August, President Tinubu appointed former Governor Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget, despite Bagudu’s widely reported history of helping then-President Sani Abacha steal hundreds of millions of dollars from the government in the 1990s,” the report said.

“Police arrested former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele on June 10 and charged him and a co-defendant with defrauding the government of 6.5 billion naira ($10.4 million), later reduced to 1.6 billion naira ($2.5 million).”

It also means you won't have that equivalent crude to sell so your forex earnings will reduce. While there'd be savings, its not just addition and subtraction
Paraman:
NNPCL will stop the importation of refined crude this year

We spent about $47 billion dollars on importation last year, once NNPCL stop importing this year, we will be saving about $20 billion.

Imagine the kind of releave this will be on the naira. When the naira start gaining more value cost of goods and services will fall.
Politics › Re: Naira Retreats To 1,400/$ On Renewed Demand Pressure by DMerciful(m): 4:46pm On Apr 25, 2024
Thats not running at a loss but wthere there is subsidy or no subsidy

Loss is, if you put $1 million dollar worth of crude plus $10,000 operational cost and you get less then $1,010,000 as revenue. I'm saying if the govt decides to run the refineries themselves, they'd put $1,010,000 and get $200,000 as revenue.

Again, don't confused subsidy/no subsidy with operation losses of govt running a company

The rates when Tinubu took over were not anywhere near realistic - from the dollar to the PMS etc etc

The refinery will be more efficient. If govt runs it, because the spares are imported with dollars, the refinery will be very inefficient due to corruption

Even if you sell the refineries, the new owners will not want to run at a loss embarassed
