He won't go alone. That started is to keep LP intact for noe SmartPolician: I have seen online reports saying that Peter Obi would run alone on LP in 2027. If I will be in Nigeria that time and he goes ahead to do that, I won't even bother voting on the election day because it will be a total waste of time and vote. He needs a coalition to unseat Tinubu. |
Politics › Re: I’m Not Desperate To Be President, I Just Want Nigeria To Work - Peter Obi by DMerciful(m): 7:35pm On May 25, 2025 |
Lets see how it goes. Whoever the coalition throws up we support. If the coalition throws Obi and he makes a commitment of one term and the North refuses to support him, nothing we can do. ivandragon: 1. The north will not support another southerner who might do 8 years after bat. Remember, by 2027, the South would have been in power for 18 years while the north has done 11 years (I.e. from 1999). The north would rather allow bat finish his tenure and by 2031 and get power then for 8 years.
2. Atiku is going to run in 2027. Bat, atiku and obi on the ballot will be a repeat of 2023 presidential election.
3. Obi does not have the financial muscle to go against bat and he has not shown that he has the capacity to attract the needed money bags to support his campaign.
4. Labour Party has been nullified as a viable vehicle for obi's ambition or even as an opposition bastion. All the opposition parties, individually, are too weak to stand up independently to bat.
5. Through no fault of his, obi has been casted as an Igbo agenda, and that narrative is not changing anytime soon. One way to diminish it, is to put the interest of Nigerians first. He might not reap the benefits of that sacrifice by becoming president, but 100% guaranteed, the north will support a candidate from the south east in 2031 or 2035. |
Politics › Re: I’m Not Desperate To Be President, I Just Want Nigeria To Work - Peter Obi by DMerciful(m): 5:20pm On May 25, 2025 |
So you're saying if the coalition supports Obi, he cannot win? If so why? ivandragon: The voting population in Nigeria is about 93m and the average turnout for elections in Nigeria averages about 48% (cumulative). So your calculation might be off.
And with the present socio-political dynamics, obi cannot win a head to head with bat.
That is a reality those who want bat out have to accept. If obi is not ready to drop his ego for the good of Nigerians, bat will win by a wide margin in 2027. |

But there must be a vehicle for that to happen. |

lies, they are getting less than governors got during GEJ interms of value. Tinubu is just starving Nigerians and giving the money to governors. A gov that collected 2 billion in 2014 is like collection 20 billion now Kilometres: If not for Tinubu, where do you think Alex otti will get funds to do this?
Tinubu strong stand on subsidy and other policies freed up funds for state governors. They are getting almost quadruple of what they use to get. That's why all the governors will endorse Tinubu last last. They know what you don't know. |

Well, good luck to Nigerians if obi puts his interests above rescuing Nigeria. |

Apart from Obi, most of these people in the coalition brought us here when they decamped to APC in 2014. Obi as the presidential candidate of the coalition is non-negotiable. If Obi defeated Tinubu in 2023 but couldn't defend his votes, thats why the coalition is needed. Obi does not have a winning problem ivandragon: For many reasons, obi cannot defeat bat. That is the simple truth and reality.
If it was ok for apc to support a disaster in 2015, then let the opposition bring another disaster that will kick out the present evil.
When Nigerians start voting different parties back to back due to non-performance, the political class will sit up.
What Nigeria needs is strong institutions and not strong men. |

If Tinubu is removed, you want to enthrone a bigger disaster like it happened in 2015? The coalition is made up of aggrieved APC guys, PDP and Lp. If Tinubu is removed, Obi needs to be installed to reser the institutions like INEC most esp, the military and police, the NNPC and the judiciary. After Obi's 4yrs, Nigeria will not go back to mediocre leadership again like it happened in Anambra ivandragon: Nigeria's situation at present is bigger than having obi as president.
The issue is to remove the disaster that is there now. To do that, the opposition must take a que from the page of apc in 2015.
Buhari was the worst aoc had to offer, but given his sure votes in the North, the came together and backed him.
Bat cannot be defeated if there is more than one main opposition behind which Nigerians can queue. |

Talk like a reasonable person asfrank: my advice is that South East states one after the other make Obi their governor, except Anambra since he can't govern there again. It will be nice to replicate the wonderful work he did while governor of Anambra in these states, since the rest of Nigerians are not interested. They should enjoy the excellent leadership and Development he has to offer.
The constitution is not against this type of scenario.

If Nigerians cannot make Obi president, they should leave him alone! ivandragon: Obi needs to understand that to put Nigeria on the track of 'working', the present disaster at the centre must be voted out.
So, if Obi truly has the interests of Nigerians at heart, he needs to join hands with Atiku and others in the opposition so as to present a formidable force to remove bat.
Anything less will be an exercise in futility. |

Politics › Re: Cameroon English Speaking Areas Made A Mistake In The 1960 Referendum??? by DMerciful(m): 12:11pm On May 25, 2025 |
I read upto a point where i saw you said the clamor for midwest region was because of kingship equality recognition then I stopped. If a lie exist at the beginning, then its lies throughout. The agitation was due to developmental neglect! You're a revisionist DomPerignon: From the inception of native rule n 1951 and the setting up of regional Houses with elected representatives , the ninoroty people in the north, west and east immediately began the clamour for their own regions.
Since the regional Houses back then didnt have the powers to grant internal seccesion , the prayers of the minoroty people in the three regions was directed to the British colonial government which brushed aside their demands with the exception of western Cameroun. Western Cameroun only became part of British Mandated Nigeria after the treaty of Verssielle had divided German Cameroun following the defeat of Germany in WW1.
The clamour for the creation of Midwestern Nigeria was spearheaded by the then Oba of Benin who saw his Kingdom and supreme authority under Westen Nigeria being relegated below the Alaffin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife.
immediately on independence the Oba fontinied his quest at the regional House in Ibadan to which there was no opposotion from Yoruba MPs. Its even on record that the motion for a referendum for the people f midwest creation was passed by a Yoruba MP
Also note that it was only western Nigeria that operated a bi-mecurial Parliament with the House of Commons for elected posotions and a House of Chiefs for titled holders to which the Oba of Benin was part of.
What the above meant was that even when a Yoruba dominated House had passed the motion for referendum for the creation of Midwest it still required ratifucation from the House of Chiefs dominated mostly by Yoruba monarchs.
That is to tell you that it was only inthe Yoruba dominated House in Ibadan that the wishes of minoroties was listened to and graciuosly approved.
After the conclusion of the referendum, it was still a Yoruba Federal MP that presented the reults on behalf of the minoroty MPs calling for the Federal House to ratify the outcome and grant the creation of Midwetern region.
Was that the case in Enugu and Kaduna?
The very fact that midwest was created through democraric and constitutional means ought to tell you who the Yorubas are.
To paraphrase Awlowo, he said the Yorubas who fought against British colonialism can not turn around and hold their brothers in a union created by the British imperailists.
i am sure you have heard of the mantra "One north" and how it was coined by the Sarduna.
"One north" does not imply one unified north rather it was Sarduna's desperate actions tp keep the socalled Pagan Provinces of present middlebelt from leaving the north.
In Enugu , the Ibo dominated house acting on direct instructions from Zik did everything opppsite of what transpired in Ibadan
So, in a nutshell, the very reason midwest came to existence exonerates the Yorubas as impeilists.
As i said here befire the spam bot banned and hid my comment, independence movement meant different things fot the three major tribes.
The Fulani north looked foward to independence to re kickstart their halted jihad which had thr entire Nigeria in it cross-hairs.
You ibos, fresh from your dilligent servitide to the british colonal government , saw the Nigerian state as your bequeated settlement for your servitude to the British and you wasted no time presnting yourselves as the new colonial masters to the hapless minirities trapped in that British contrapment known as Eastern Nigeria. To showcase how deluded you were as the new colonial overlords, ypu decided to annex the newly created states of Old Rivers (present day Bayelsa and Rivers) and Old Cross Rivers (Present day Akwa Ibom and Cross River) to form your ungodly cannibal Biafra.
As for the Yoruba, they wanted to be on their own and had insisted on a referendum clause and the fact that they keyed into the demands of their cousins in the old Bendel proves thst out of the three major tribes they remain the only civil nationality that did not see minorities as one to exploit and paraatize on.
