Nairaland General › Dexamethasone: A New Drug For Covid-19 by Dobson43(op): 3:26pm On Jun 17, 2020 |
WHO welcomes preliminary results about dexamethasone use in treating critically ill COVID-19 patients 16 June 2020 News release The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes the initial clinical trial results from the United Kingdom (UK) that show dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, can be lifesaving for patients who are critically ill with COVID-19. For patients on ventilators, the treatment was shown to reduce mortality by about one third, and for patients requiring only oxygen, mortality was cut by about one fifth, according to preliminary findings shared with WHO. The benefit was only seen in patients seriously ill with COVID-19, and was not observed in patients with milder disease. “This is the first treatment to be shown to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 requiring oxygen or ventilator support,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This is great news and I congratulate the Government of the UK, the University of Oxford, and the many hospitals and patients in the UK who have contributed to this lifesaving scientific breakthrough.” Dexamethasone is a steroid that has been used since the 1960s to reduce inflammation in a range of conditions, including inflammatory disorders and certain cancers. It has been listed on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines since 1977 in multiple formulations, and is currently off-patent and affordably available in most countries. The researchers shared initial insights about the results of the trial with WHO, and we are looking forward to the full data analysis in the coming days. WHO will coordinate a meta-analysis to increase our overall understanding of this intervention. WHO clinical guidance will be updated to reflect how and when the drug should be used in COVID-19. Today’s news builds off the WHO Research & Development Blueprint meeting, which took place in Geneva in mid-February to accelerate health technologies for COVID-19, where further research into the use of steroids was highlighted as a priority. The findings reinforce the importance of large randomized control trials that produce actionable evidence. WHO will continue to work together with all partners to further develop lifesaving therapeutics and vaccines to tackle COVID-19 including under the umbrella of the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator. https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/16-06-2020-who-welcomes-preliminary-results-about-dexamethasone-use-in-treating-critically-ill-covid-19-patients

OBelz: Most people like to laugh. Most people like to be with people who they can laugh with. There's nothing mysterious about this.
The problem I find is that many, many men think they're funny, they try very hard to be funny, and they just aren't as funny as they think they are.
I have a friend who is always cracking jokes. I'm not saying that he isn't funny, but it's as though he feels like he has to be funny all the time, so he forces himself to make jokes even when they aren't particularly good, because he's taken on the persona of "funny guy." He obsesses about it, continually checking his Facebook and Twitter feeds to see how many likes or comments he's received. He wants so badly to be liked, and this is what he does to make himself feel liked.
Unfortunately, having worked so hard to fill the role of "the funny guy in the room," he neglected to learn how to address more serious matters. He can be very insensitive to the moods of others, and will crack jokes in situations where it's really not appropriate, or try to show off how clever he is when others aren't having it. And if someone else is cracking jokes, he seems to feel he needs to outdo them, and creates a competition out of what could have just been a relaxing evening.
Of course it's good to have a sense of humor, to be able to laugh and to make other people laugh. But humor should be organic and appropriate, not some kind of achievement you aim for. People don't always find the same things funny, and trying too hard to make someone else laugh isn't funny at all, it's just uncomfortable.
Be yourself (as long as you're not a jerk): it's always the best advice. My dear, well said. Being funny shouldn't be the main thing. You made sense pass hot Agege bread and groundnut |

Well I would have preempted you, if I didn't read to the very end. I would sadly be critical of your flowy choice of words though it is in itself refreshing. It is sufficient to assume that most youths have little or no form of lexical dexterity in their choice of words. To be fair, you did well. But it can get better. Be more descriptive in build up of the characters and allow room for funny anecdotes. Since this is your first foray into writing, I would advice you spend time on proof reading too. When writing, have it in the back of your mind, that you are an entertainer as well as been an information disseminator. What ever genre, you want to explore, be original. Keep your fans guessing. Play with words and their minds. Thrill them with series of an unexpected events. Tie events well to time which you did with the covid-19 in addition to place so one can relate. The best writers can attest to the fact that writing is hard work and should be embraced as such. Do your hard work for the reading pleasure of your fans. Improve your lexical prowess. |

Zoie: Fvck him. That's how one guy kept disturbing me from 100l to 400l that he likes me, want to marry me. Found out in 300l that he's married with a child.
If you want a babe, you'll get a babe, married or no. Why lie? Some ladies don't even care. But these fvckers go for decent ladies, probably virgins, lie that he's still single because he knows she'll not date a married man. Scum of the earth, I tell ya. Wow. So much passion here. AkhereOkaka: Is MKO Abiola a saint? Who told you he would have perform better? The fact of the matter remains that barring the achievement baba will record in terms of plundering the wealth of this country, Abacha is a GOAT worthy of mention. Having said that, no one is a saint, not you neither myself inclusive, not anyone. In other words, You misunderstood me. What this country still faces back then is still prevalent till date. That's what I was talking about. I never said Abiola was a Messiah. |
