A photographer filming a protest by members of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood may have captured his own death on film.

Ahmed Samir Assem, 26, was photographing soldiers on rooftops outside the Egyptian Army’s Republican Guard officers’ club in Cairo Monday, where 51 people were killed in the deadliest night of violence in the last two weeks.

The footage shows an Egyptian soldier on a rooftop as he aims, fires and the screen goes to black. One hour later, Assem was reported dead.

“At around 6 a.m., a man came into the media center with a camera covered in blood and told us that one of our colleagues had been injured,” Ahmed Abu Zeid, editor of Al-Horia Wa Al-Adala, told The Daily Telegraph. “Around an hour later, I received news that Ahmed had been shot by a sniper in the forehead while filming or taking pictures on top of the buildings around the incident… Ahmed’s camera was the only one which filmed the entire incident from the first moment.”

Assem was on the front lines when intense fighting broke out Monday morning outside the officers’ club, where ousted president Mohammed Morsi was believed to be hiding out. It remains unclear who fired the first shot. The military maintains it fired in self-defense and the Muslim Brotherhood maintains that soldiers opened fire on a peaceful demonstration.

“We were starting morning prayers when we started hearing gunfire,” Mahmoud Fouad, 29, who was wounded on Monday, told ABC News. “They started shooting at us, bullets flying past our head. People were dying in front of me and everyone was getting hit in the back.”

Videos have also surfaced purporting to show Morsi-supporters attacking the army. ABC News is unable to confirm the exact circumstances of Monday’s violence that killed at least 51 and wounded more than 300.

But as the debate continues, the Brotherhood says Assem’s video will be used as evidence that the army is to blame for Monday’s massacre. A portion of the video attributed to Assem but not independently verified by ABC News, was shown at a Brotherhood press conference this week. Elsewhere, on Twitter, the Brotherhood mourned Assem’s death and posted a short video montage of the photographer’s life.

Women are bent on revenge against Tuareg rebels in Mali

Africans will now have their own .africa domain, this name is set to be introduced towards the end of 2013.

The domain will make it possible for businesses and other organizations to register domain names ending in .africa for the first time. However,the domain registration process is yet to be revealed.

Donvay Wegierski, director of Werksmans Attorneys and member of its Intellectual Property practice in Stellenbosch, says that the .africa domain was created “by Africans for Africans” and marked Africa’s strides in growth and development.

He said that the domain will present an opportunity to identify the African continent online for the very first time. The director added that they are expecting many existing and new companies across the continent to take up the .africa domain to show to the world where they are from.

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the co-ordinator of the launch of the new domain names.

“We expect the .africa domain to launch in two phases, first the Sunrise phase and second the Landrush phase,” Wegierski argues.

During the Sunrise phase, trade mark owners have priority to register .africa domains incorporating their trade marks for a certain period of time.

“It is for this reason that trade mark owners should validate their trade marks at the TradeMark Clearinghouse (TMCH) as only trade mark owners with TMCH validation can take advantage of the Sunrise period because it is only possible for the TMCH to validate registered trademarks and therefore only proprietors of registered trademarks will have preference,“ continues Wegierski .

The second phase, which is the Landrush , will open then and there and domains can be registered on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The .africa registry will be managed by UniForum South Africa, trading as ZA Central Registry (ZACR).

President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday in Lagos said the Federal Government is currently studying a proposal to restrict importation of electricity generating sets into the country soon.

The move, the President said at the fifth Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies, Nigeria (AES), will be part of declaring a state of emergency in the nation’s electricity sector.

The President, who was represented by Works Minister, Mike Onolememen, expressed belief that soon, electricity problem will be a thing of the past, because the administration has put all necessary measures to achieve this goal.

Also, he praised the efforts of the AES in repositioning the youths of Nigeria rthrough her ‘Operation 500 Students-Entrepreneurs Programme’, where 500 students in each tertiary institution in Nigeria are trained on leadership and entrepreneurship free of charge in collaboration with the school authorities every year.

The President said his administration lays emphasis on entrepreneurship and human capital development as it is his administration’s determination to reduce the level of unemployment in the nation.

“That is why the government places much emphasis on the number of jobs each project or contract it embarks on would create,” he added, noting that Nigerians are enterprising people who would excel in whatever legitimate venture under an enabling environment.

He added that the theme of the conference: ‘Transformational Leadership: A Springboard to National and Sustainable Development’, is apt and timely as the country needs transformational leaders who havve the interest of the people at heart.

“This has always been the main thrust of this administration. We believe that leadership comes from God and thus must be administered in trust. This is why we are geared at eliminating corruption from the polity”.

Also speaking at the event, former Head of State, General Abdusalam Abubakar, who chaired the event, said issues of good governance and peaceful coexistence are central to any effort at improving the lot of Nigerians and therefore must be taken with all seriousness it deserves.

Qunu - Nelson Mandela's grandson, Ndaba, was seen at what is believed to be his grandfather's gravesite in Qunu in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday, City Press tweeted.

Sapa reported that close relatives of the former president and chiefs of the Abathembu royal family gathered at his home in Qunu on Tuesday morning.

This followed an urgent call reportedly made by his children, a Sapa correspondent reported.

Among those who arrived at the homestead were Mandla Mandela, Thanduxolo Mandela, Ndaba Mandela, and Ndileka Mandela.

Also there was chief Bhovulengwe, of the Abathembu royal council.

Napilisi Mandela, an elder in the Mandela family, said it was being called to discuss delicate matters pertaining to the anti-apartheid icon.

Napilisi Mandela usually presides over the family's meetings and rituals.

Meanwhile, several Gauteng businessmen have released 100 white doves outside the hospital where Mandela is being treated to symbolise the freedom that he brought to the country.

LA Unified School District awards Apple $30-million contract for iPads as Microsoft whines

Egypt has joined the tablet PC’S creation band wagon, following Congo’s lead when they engineered and designed the first African made Tablet, the ‘Pharaohs’ are now introducing the ‘Enar’.

The new device will feature a 9.7 inch screen (720* 1024 pixels), 0.4 Android, a processor of 1.6GH, memory 1 RAM, cache memory 8 GB and an expandable memory slot of up to 32 GB. Coming with one year warranty, the tablet’s battery runs for 16 hours stand by, it has two front cameras, a back camera with capacity of 2 mega pixels, WI-FI, 3G and weighs 750 g.

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy along with the Minister of Military Production Lt Gen Reda Hafez and Qaliobeya Governor Dr Adel Zayed visited Benha Company for Electronic Industries, an affiliate of the National Authority for Military Production, to check on its product Enar.

A cooperation protocol was signed last year between ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Information Technology Industry Development Agency and the Ministry of Higher Education to facilitate a pilot project on the Enar.

This cooperation protocol was to allow distribution of ten thousand devices that will be first produced, to university students across Egypt to give feedback on the effectiveness of the device.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology emphasized the importance of the project in meeting the needs of all sectors, including the education sector and the many entities that may be interested in the Egyptian tablet.

The tablet, he explained, would be distributed starting June 25th. It will be priced affordably to make technology accessible throughout Egyptian society.
