Should exceed 1k? Why not precise CBN. Almost precise the validity period of a newly issued card. If Bank A charges 700 for a card for a validity period of 1yr and Bank B charges 1200 for a period of 2 years, one would think Bank A is cheaper without noticing the number of years\ of the card.

Embattled Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria (SGBN) is set to resume operations under a new name, HeritageBank , following a region,al banking licence granted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to Heritage Banking Company Limited.

The bank is set to commence validation of the account holders of SGBN, an exercise which will run for one month, starting from next week Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

SAN FRANCISCO, December 06, (THEWILL) – Twenty eight (28) registered political parties in Nigeria have been de-registered by the State’s national electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


According to a statement obtained by THEWILL from the agency, its Secretary Abdulahi Kaugama, said the commission acted purely “in the exercise of the powers conferred on it by the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).”


Kaugama was however silent on why INEC moved against the political parties.

MINISTER OF FINANCE, DR. NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA

SAN FRANCISCO, December 03, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Finance Minister and Coordinator of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has approved new measures aimed at reviving the Nigerian bourse, which has struggled to bounce back since its crash during the global recession in 2009.

Addressing a press conference inside her Ministry of Finance conference room in Abuja Monday, Okonjo-Iweala listed the elimination of stamp duties and VAT on stock market transaction fees amongst other measures as panacea to the struggling bourse.

“Taxes on stock exchange transactions fees are as high as 12 percent (5 percent in VAT and up to 7 percent in stamp duties) – much higher than in other jurisdictions, and these constitute a major disincentive to invest in the Nigerian capital market. I will like to announce that the Federal Government has consented to: 



“Waive the 0.075 percent stamp duties payable on stock exchange transaction fees; and,

“Exempt from VAT, commissions: (a) earned on traded values of shares, (b) payable to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and (c) payable to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS); by including these commissions in the list of VAT-exempt goods and services,” the Minister said.

General Garicks: These banks antagonize eachother. There is no way one bank will know the account turnover of a customer in a second bank. Even when bank 'A' writes bank 'B', the response will be sketchy and wont carry weight. Something like, ''yes he has been our customer for 5yrs''. ''This information is without liability on our institution''. Such crap.

CreditRegistry, Credit Reference Company (CRC) and others are there to provide lenders with information about borrowers. It is required by banks to subscribe to at least two credit bureaux.

Something tells me there is more to this story.

Ayowumie: I absolutely agree with you. The next thing, we persuade Ghanian and Chadian governments to patronise Innoson by providing trade credit. It would be difficult to bring in Benin Republic because the country gets direct supply of fairly used cars from Europe but then the country is a land-locked nation, Nigerian government can provide some incentive such as training Benin republic's custom and immigration agencies. The whole thing can be worked out.
But then, before all these work, Nigerian governments (Federal, State and Local) must be forced to patronise IVM. This is how it is done in developed countries. United States govt patronise General Motors to the 'core'.

The CBN should also look into the number of hours sometimes days spent waiting for cash dispense error to be reversed. Why should it take a bank a long time to reverse a wrongful debit by ATMs?
And why should a merchant reject my use of POS terminal because the sale is not up to 5k. (Sorry about the disgression at least it wasn't about the price of garri).

I had to continue cooking to soften the corn...was still on the matter for close to 4hrs....to cut the long tori short.....I have gone to buy dried corn instead of fresh maize....I had to eat it like that!
