Family / Re: Couple Killed By Robbers Shortly After Landing Nigeria For Holiday by doctimi(m): 12:26pm On Dec 21, 2014
I Was driving on the same highway on Wednesday, Robbery lasted for over 1 hour... Everyone including myself parked by the roadside until the men of the Nigerian army came around and gave the robbers a hot chase. The country and its territories are becoming unsafe by the day. Security of lives is the principal duty of any functional government. May God rest the souls of the departed. God be with all of us and our families this season... And may he keep all nairalanders in perfect peace....

Celebrities / The Real Reason Mark Zuckerberg Wears The Same T-shirt Every Day by doctimi(m): 1:37pm On Nov 08, 2014
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had his first-ever public Q&A session on Thursday.

He answered a lot of questions, but the one that got a lot of interest was, “Why do you wear the same T-shirt every day?”

For those who haven’t noticed, Zuckerberg wears the same gray T-shirt at most public events. While many expected a playful response, Zuckerberg gave a pretty serious answer for his penchant to wear the same gray shirt.

"I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community," Zuckerberg said, after clarifying that he had "multiple same shirts."

He said even small decisions like choosing what to wear or what to eat for breakfast could be tiring and consume energy, and he didn't want to waste any time on that.

"I'm in this really lucky position, where I get to wake up every day and help serve more than a billion people. And I feel like I'm not doing my job if I spend any of my energy on things that are silly or frivolous about my life," he said.

Zuckerberg pointed out that numerous other influential people, like Apple founder Steve Jobs or President Barack Obama, have the same theory with regards to choosing their outfits. Jobs, in fact, told biographer Walter Isaacson that he even wanted to have all Apple employees wear the same vest.

And now for more pictures for Zuckerberg wearing the same clothes:

Politics / Re: Why Do You Think Lagos Is Called Lasgidi? by doctimi(m): 1:11pm On Oct 26, 2014
Hmmm

As a street boy, Let me clear the air

The slang had been on for a while. It originated from the code written on the yellow buses (Danfo) in Lagos defining the route the bus is confined to.

LASG (Lagos State Government)

IDI (Short form for Idimu)

LASGIDI was the code used by those area boys wayback then to track buses that haven't paid the daily ticket due and other

'agbero' fees.

Politics / Governor Fashola Of Lagos & President Joko Widodo Of Indonesia; Can BRF Win??? by doctimi(m): 5:11pm On Oct 25, 2014
Was reading about Joko Widodo (Newly Elected President of Indonesia) in an article online. His progressions in order seems to me as celestially incredible. But it’s true! That’s how he moved.

• Had financial difficulties in his childhood

• Worked his way through primary school to earn enough money for school materials and pocket money.

• Started working in his father's furniture workshop at 12.

• Parents were ejected three times in his childhood for unpaid rents, hence critical on his programme as mayor of Surakarta city was mass housing

• Studied wood structure, utilization and technology in the university

• Worked as a furniture and property business man after graduation

• Business failed and crumbled, took a loan from his mother to start same business again.

• Contested, won and served as mayor of an Indonesian city (like a Local Government Chairman) for 8 Years.

• Contested, won and served as governor of Jakarta, Indonesia

• Contested, won and currently serving as the president of Indonesia with over 250 Million citizens.

I’ve been given 8 reasons, this would be impossible with Governor Fashola of Lagos State. Permit me to request for more reasons as I must be convinced beyond reasonable doubts that something like this may not be possible with him. Kindly help me add yours! Why do you think Fashola would not win, should he get a ticket and supported platform to contest as a president of the country.

I have decided to share it here so we can both reason out a justification(s) for this supposed punishment meted out to my young life. Should this irrational tradition continue? Politics / Re: Former Petroleum Minister, Rilwanu Lukman Is Dead by doctimi(m): 12:48pm On Jul 21, 2014
Its quite unfortunate lots of people are too quick to judge. This is one of the few nigerians with impeccable integrity and astute brilliance. Or y'all think been a OPEC president comes cheap? Just yesteday, I read Dele Momodu's article where talked about persuading the late doctor to run as a vice presidential candidate with Olu Falae back in 1998. You may Read the excerpt here...

''I bought my own ticket to Vienna, Austria, where Dr Rilwan Lukman was OPEC President. I met a man who sat atop one of the most powerful institutions on earth and was excited that he had agreed to meet me for whatever it was worth. We drove to his official residence which was under renovation and had dinner. I was very humbled when this great man jumped into his car and personally drove me to the Intercontinental Hotel which he had already booked for me to stay. We later sat in the hotel to discuss the main reasons I came to see him. I gave him the full background to my mission and how Chief Falae would love to have him as his Vice Presidential candidate.

Dr Lukman was very surprised that a young man like me (I was 38 at the time) would have the idea, nay audacity, to suggest his name and even persuade a Presidential candidate that he was the way forward. He was even more astounded that I had spent my own money to travel. He said many would have used the opportunity to extort money from him and Chief Falae. I told him I would have lost respect of both of them if I did. He went on to thank me and also told me to express his profound gratitude to Chief Falae for his faith in him. He said he had no doubts about the competence of Chief Falae and the consolidated benefits of his stupendous knowledge, experience and expertise in Economics and Banking. He said all the nicest things before adding a caveat, like my old Principal, Reverend Father F. Cloutier, would have done. And it was a bombshell.

Dr Lukman said if not for the renovation going on in his residence, he would have preferred that I stayed with him at home as this would have made it possible for us to interact more and demonstrate how Nigeria is controlled by some powerful forces who do not sleep at night. He confirmed that the Nigerian Mafia had decided that General Obasanjo must return to power. To say I was stunned and shocked is an understatement. As sleepy and narcoleptic as I felt, my eyes cleared immediately. I asked what the whole purpose of holding elections was, if results had already been predetermined, sealed and delivered! The look on his face was that of a man who saw through my plain naiveté, simple ignorance or both. He told me the godfathers and kingmakers would erect all the structures needed to select and coronate the king at the appropriate time.

I left Vienna a sad man. And landed in Nigeria a dejected soul. I was confronted with the reality that those who killed June 12 were not yet in retirement. They were not going to embalm and keep it in a mausoleum as a lesson to future generations. June 12 would be cremated and its ashes scattered to the winds. Those promoting Obasanjo had done their research well. They wanted a Yorubaman who was neither a fan of Abiola nor a believer of June 12. They got the added bonus of a man who was also not vehemently interested in his kinsmen but was keen to shout to anyone who cared to listen that he is a detribalised Nigerian – as if there was any such Nigerian in practice after Abiola!''

RIP to the great Nigerian

Romance / Re: Your Experiences With A Nairalander by doctimi(m): 11:47pm On Jul 02, 2014
Hmmm....well I must say I've had diverse experiences with a number of naira land..good..bad...ugly! How be it two of the good experiences were spectacular! The first nairalander I met was a daughter of eve very prominent on the sexuality thread. She invited nairalanders to a show along Adekunle Fajuyi way, GRA Ikeja. Eniobanke was d title of d show...all by Akinlolu Segun a.k.a beautiful Nubia and the nairalander in question was on Nubia's troupe. She was so amazing and splendid in the art...I was held spellbound I must confess. In the middle of d show, she was on stage and she invited me up for dance after forcing 1.5Litres of palm wine through my oesophagus all d way to the stomach. We danced And danced away under the annointing of the palm wine while segun akinlolu was playing. At the end of the show, we talked, joked and chatted for a while. By 2200hrs I was ready to leave, I thanked her for her care, generosity and creativity. That was the last time I heard from her. She had earlier told me she was going off naira land forever. That formed my impression about female nairalanders. Amazingly wonderful they are... Only be true to yourself, then you would have a swell day with them...
My second experience with a female nairalander was also stunning....spurred by the wonderful experience with the first female nairalander, I was quite convinced that this would also be unique. It was 2 years after the first experience. On a public holiday, not knowing what to do, I turned on my adventure switch. Since I was transfered to the southeast, from Lagos, I had became so daring and bold. On this fateful day, I drove from the southeast across the Niger river to the southwest to meet her. It was fun filled as I stayed in the town for 3days. She took me to her village where I saw the wonders of nature. From one river to the other, over rocks we skipped like rams...hmmmm the pix attached is the only source of drinking water in her village. Its a small crevice from which water flows from within a 40m-high rock all d way down to the villagers reach. I must say I experienced nature firsthand. Thanks to d nairalander in question. There are great minds on this forum...no doubt about that. Really great people...I'll continue later.....

Foreign Affairs / Obama Calls Putin A Jackass by doctimi(m): 8:05am On Sep 09, 2013
ST. PETERSBURG (The Borowitz Report)—Hopes for a positive G20 summit crumbled today as President Obama blurted to Russia’s Vladimir Putin at a joint press appearance, “Everyone here thinks you’re a jackass.”

The press corps appeared stunned by the uncharacteristic outburst from Mr. Obama, who then unleashed a ten-minute tirade at the stone-faced Russian President.

“Look, I’m not just talking about Snowden and Syria,” Mr. Obama said. “What about Pussy Riot? What about your anti-gay laws? Total jackass moves, my friend.”

As Mr. Putin narrowed his eyes in frosty silence, Mr. Obama seemed to warm to his topic.

“If you think I’m the only one who feels this way, you’re kidding yourself,” Mr. Obama said, jabbing his finger in the direction of the Russian President’s face. “Ask Angela Merkel. Ask David Cameron. Ask the Turkish guy. Every last one of them thinks you’re a dick.”

Shortly after Mr. Obama’s volcanic performance, Mr. Putin released a terse official statement, reading, “I should be afraid of this skinny man? I wrestle bears.”

After one day of meetings, the G20 nations voted unanimously on a resolution that said maybe everyone should just go home.

Politics / Police Dismiss Sgt. Omeleze Caught On Tape Negotiating Bribe by doctimi(m): 6:38pm On Aug 07, 2013
(Reuters) – It was a crime so familiar to inhabitants of Nigeria’s corruption-ridden main metropolis that few would have batted an eyelid had the victim not managed to record the whole incident on a secret camera.

The outcome was much rarer – a policeman sacked for trying to extort money from a motorist over a supposed traffic offence.

It was a scene that happens every day. A policeman stops a car on a busy Lagos street and accuses the driver of flouting some traffic rule – one that may be real or imaginary in a vast, chaotic city of 21 million people where motorists often seem oblivious to any rules.

The policeman then opens the door to the passenger seat, enters and demands a large amount of money from the motorist – in this case 25,000 Nigerian naira ($160).

Nigeria’s central police command confirmed overnight that Sergeant Chris Omeleze had been dismissed after being caught on camera trying to extort the bribe from a motorist who was leaving Lagos international airport.

“I want to gladly report that in less than 24 hours after we got wind of that story, the police officer was identified, arrested … (and) dismissed from the police force,” police spokesman Frank Mba said on Channels Television on Thursday. Omeleze had been a policeman for 21 years, said Mba.

The video has received 117,500 hits on YouTube, been retweeted and replayed on all Nigeria’s main TV channels.

Omeleze originally asks the driver for 25,000 naira but the man protests that 2,000 naira is all he has.

The policeman says this is not enough, adding: “I am not working alone. Look, if you enter this compound (the police station), you will pay bigger money.”

He then appears to notice the man has some dollars, but the driver says that he needs them for excess luggage.

After much argument, the policeman appears to make a phone call to a colleague and tells him the driver refuses to pay up. He then advises the driver that he had been instructed to book him for the traffic offence.

Analysts say corrupt police officers in Africa’s most populous country do not work alone but are part of a mafia-like racketeering network going far up the chain of command.

It often worsens during election cycles when politicians, who wield influence over police, need more money for patronage.

Mba denied that the policeman had an accomplice in the precinct station, saying he made a pretend call in order to “blackmail” the motorist he had pulled over.

“As a matter of fact he made no calls. He wanted to fool the citizen into believing there were some superior forces involved.”

It was not known whether the sacked policeman would be prosecuted, as Mba could not be reached for further comment.

The 3 types of murder recognised:
*Justifiable murder
*Excusable Murder
*Felony:....felony further categorised into 2: Manslaugher and Premeditated Murder

for the 1st, if you're are a government agent, say an SSS officer going after armed criminals, in exchange of gun fire, if eventually the suspect dies, then it's justified cos u shld under no circumstances kill a suspect. Thats Justifiable muder.
For excusable, say a rape victim or any other person was attacked, and he subtly managed to disarm his/her attacker and in the process of that, the attacker died. If proven beyond reasonable doubt that the assailant was killed in the process of self defence, then the munder is excusable.
Thirdly, Manslaughter is The unjustifiable, inexcusable, and intentional killing of a human being without deliberation, premeditation, and malice e.g. Someone tries to cross an express way, knocked down by an on-coming vehicle. It can be voluntary or involuntary like a man met his wife having sex with a cotenant on their matrimonial bed, in annoyance grabs a stick and just clubbed the adulteree once, he's guilty of voluntary man-slaughter while the man who knocks down some one on the highway wld be charged with involuntary man-slaughter. The last in the intentional murder which was deliberate, planned and carried out with malice aforethought.

The victim of this death sentence commited intentional murder and had been proven guilty beyond all doubt by a competent court. I really dont know why amnesty group is crying. Let them channel all their resources in ridding the human society of criminals first. Taxpayers money should not be used to feed eternal prisoners while there are so many innocents out there without food to eat. Hamza Almustapha, Rev. Kings as well as all those Lautech ritualist students should follow.
