Former Lagos State Governor and current Minister of Housing, Works and Power, Babatunde Fashola, will emerge Nigeria’s next president, according to the leader of Divine Intelligence Ministry Prophet George Fakolade.

The Qatari-based sports company had earlier issued a memo to the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) stating that they have no content distributorship agreement with TSTV; thus, making distributing their contents on its platform an illegal activity.

However, TSTVAfrica denied any wrongdoing and existence of such memo. This put more credence to the question of why TSTV would establish its business in such stormy beginning.

On the incident, TSTV also took to Twitter to explain that its system was hacked by unscrupulous elements and it is working to resolve the issue.

A popular Ghanaian pastor, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has publicly disclosed that he not ready to stop giving out lucky lottery numbers to people unless Jesus tells him to stop.

Founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Ralph Uwazuruike, has claimed that leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has no real agenda for Biafra.
Uwazuruike, who said this while addressing his followers in Owerri, also challenged the IPOB leader to submit himself to security operatives if he is a true freedom fighter.
He maintained that Kanu and IPOB’s activities were counter-productive to the Biafra struggle, stressing that it will lead to an unplanned war.

Agencies not allowed to use Kaspersky software anymore
The United States government has decided to ban software developed by Russian company Kaspersky Lab due to possible ties to Kremlin and collaboration with local intelligence services .
The General Services Administration has confirmed for AFP that Kaspersky is no longer an approved software vendor, which basically means that state departments and federal agencies in the United States are not allowed to buy software from the Russian security vendor.
" GSA ' s priorities are to ensure the integrity and security of US government systems and networks and evaluate products and services available on our contracts using supply chain risk management processes , " the agency was quoted as saying .
Concerns regarding Kaspersky ’ s collaboration with Russia aren ’ t new , but more recently , reports coming from US - based media, including Bloomberg News , revealed that the security company had stronger ties than initially believed with Russian intelligence agency FSB.
No inappropriate ties with any government
Kaspersky denied all the accusations , explaining in a statement on its website that the company does not have what it described as “ inappropriate ” ties with any government , adding that it only works with agencies to fight cybercrime.
Bloomberg claimed to have obtained internal company emails that served as evidence of a “ much closer working relationship ” between Kaspersky and FSB , but the security firm says the communication was “ misinterpreted or manipulated . ”
“ Kaspersky Lab is very public about the fact that it assists law enforcement agencies around the world with fighting cyberthreats , including those in Russia, by providing cybersecurity expertise on malware and cyberattacks ,” the firm says.
“ When assisting in official Russian cybercrime investigations , in accordance with Russian law , we only provide technical expertise throughout the investigation to help them catch cybercriminals . Concerning raids and physically catching cybercriminals , Kaspersky Lab might ride along to examine any digital evidence found , but that is the extent of our participation, as we do not track hackers ’ locations . Kaspersky Lab doesn ’ t provide any government agencies , nor other parties , with information on location of people and doesn ’ t gather ‘ identifying data from customers ’ computers ’ because it is technically impossible .”

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has enjoined the Federal Government to establish a maximum prison in the dreaded Sambisa Forest specially for corrupt people.

Pope Francis has laid down an ultimatum to defiant Nigerian priests: lose your job if you don’t obey me and your bishop.

According to a report by Associated Press, Pope Francis met June 8 at the Vatican with a delegation from the Ahiara diocese, south-east Nigeria where priests have been refusing to accept the 2012 appointment by the then pontiff, Benedict XVI, of the local bishop.

The Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, reporting the pope’s unusually harsh order, said on Sunday that Francis was acting “for the good of the people of God” by threatening to suspend the priests from the ministry if they didn’t pledge in a letter, by July 9, “total obedience” to Francis and accept Bishop Peter Okpaleke’s appointment.

Mr. Francis told the visiting delegation he was “very sad” about the priests’ refusal to obey and ruled out tribal loyalties as explaining the refusal.

Africa has been one of the continents where the Catholic church is growing. The faithful and clergy there often imbue their practices with local culture in dynamic contrast to more traditional routines in Europe or North America.

Francis’ move to end disobedience to the Vatican aims at ensuring the growing church there will be loyal to the pontiff.

His remarks to the visiting delegation indicated how dangerous he viewed any rebellion against papal authority.

Those priests opposing Mr. Okpaleke’s taking up of his office “want to destroy the church, which is not permitted,” the pope said in his address to the delegation.

He added: “the pope can’t be indifferent” to the rebellion.

He has often taken a conciliatory tone in resolving disputes, but in this one he was entertaining no diplomacy. He demanded that each priest in the diocese write to him asking forgiveness and “clearly manifest total obedience to the pope.”

They must also accept the bishop chosen by Rome. If, within a month, each priest doesn’t do so, he will be “ispo facto suspended,” such as from the celebration of the sacraments, and “will lose his current office,” Francis warned.

Francis acknowledged that his move “seems very harsh.” He added that he had even considered the extraordinary remedy of suppressing the entire diocese but didn’t, so as not to hurt rank-and-file faithful.

He said he thought the rebellious priests might have been manipulated from outside the diocese or even abroad, but named no culprits.

In 2015, the diocese served around 520,000 Catholics, out of a local population of about 675,000, and had 128 diocesan priests and seven other priests. It wasn’t immediately clear how many of the priests were involved in the rebellion against the bishop’s appointment.

An Oregon man who made threats to kill former President Barack Obama over social media will serve five years in a U.S. federal prison.

The Mail Tribune reported Friday that U.S. District Court Judge Michael McShane sentenced 62-year-old John Roos of Medford to 63 months in prison.

Roos was also sentenced to three years of post-prison supervision upon his release.

According to a U.S. Department of Justice news release, Roos pleaded guilty to charges related to the threats and other charges for possession of an unregistered explosive device.

Roos said in court that he threatened to kill Obama and the former first family on Twitter. According to the release, Roos has also posted on Facebook threats to kill FBI agents with hunting rifles.

Roos has said the threats were not serious.

Medical doctor stabs own mother to death


The police in Ogun State have arrested a medical doctor, Emmanuel Ogah, for allegedly stabbing his biological mother to death. The incident happened on Thursday in Itele Ota, Ado- Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was said to have claimed that he was frustrated into taking the life of his mother.

A statement issued yesterday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect killed his mother, one Janet Ogah, who was a food vendor. Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said Dr. Ogah recently completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

He said the suspect alleged that his mother was in the habit of insulting and disgracing him in the presence of her apprentices.
The police spokesman explained that the suspect was arrested following complaints from one Cletus Ogah at Itele Ota Divisional Headquarters that his younger brother has stabbed his mother to death. Oyeyemi said, “Upon the complaint, the DPO of the division, CSP Lukman Raheem, led detectives to the scene at No 16 Ololade street, Lafenwa Itele Ota where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect who has just finished his NYSC programme came back home three days earlier and has been having quarrel with the deceased since then. “In his statement, the suspect claimed that his mother was in the habit of insulting and disgracing him in the presence of her apprentices and that he was frustrated into taken the life of his mother.

“The corpse of the 62 years old food vendor has been deposited at the general hospital morgue for autopsy,” he said. The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the medical doctor to Homicide Section of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede yesterday said the much-awaited Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will hold in May as part of steps to check malpractices.
He also said the agency had handed over 10 officials to the police for investigation in connection with fraud associated with sales of scratch cards.

Prof. Oloyede said JAMB had eliminated the use of scratch cards because UTME candidates were being extorted.

He said: “For the 2017 UTME, we have taken a decision to commence the sale of the form soon. Within the next two weeks, we will be out. The reason for this is that we are making all arrangements that ought to be made. We have changed the process of payment, no more scratch card selling. We need to put the right architecture in place and we have put this in place.

“The examination will be coming up later than usual. This is to make sure we take into consideration the interest of the students. We are going to conduct the UTME in May. It will not clash with any SSCE examinations
“I did not sit here or my management did not fix the date. We sat down with all examination bodies with their timetables and we agreed to create this window.”
He said the new timing of the UTME was to check any form of malpractice, especially upgrading of results.

He said: “Normally, we conduct our examinations around March and the results will be ready within two to three days. But when do we need the results? It is always between July and August. This gives room for all forms of suspicion. If you go on the net, you will see people claiming that they could help candidates to upgrade their results because the results are lying fallow between March and July.

“Now we want to shorten the period in such a way that the time between the examination and when the results will be used will be very short. There will be no opportunity for anybody to even dream of upgrading results.

“We are also using that opportunity to communicate with other Examination bodies like WAEC, NECO and NABTEB to ensure that we do not make our examinations mutually exclusive. Somebody is taking WAEC examinations, he wants to take JAMB but in some cases due to clash of timetable, he wants to sacrifice one for the other.

“So, we have harmonized in such a way that the period we are going to use for our examination, all other examination bodies will not have examinations during the period.
Asked how many candidates will sit for UTME this year, the Registrar said the agency is expecting about 1.7million.

“That figure (1.7m candidates) was last year’s figure and we do not expect less this year. We expect about 1.5million candidates for UTME and about 200,000 and 300,000 candidates for Direct Entry. That was how we arrived at the figure and that is the figure we are also expecting, “he said.
“I or the management will not promise a hitch-free examination because when you are doing the type of re-engineering we are doing, you cannot say that there will be no hitches. But we believe that we are on top of it and whatever problem arises, we will solve it.
“Everybody will however have fair treatment and everybody will be well-treated. This is what I can assure Nigerians.

Prof. Oloyede confirmed that 10 officials of JAMB were handed over to the Police over scratch cards-related fraud.

Oloyede went on: “What we have done is to fine tune what is being done to make our services better for the public. We have taken some very painful decisions like elimination of scratch cards. We know that some people make their living from sale of scratch cards but that is not the type of living we want to encourage because it is extortion.

“They buy the cards from our staff and they sell at exorbitant price to the users. The scratch card has a particular amount of N1, 000 or N2, 500 but they up selling the cards for four to five times the price. Apart from that, scratch card has left to massive corruption in the system.

“As I’m talking to you now, 10 members of our staff are with the police. We have handed over to the police for one corrupt practice or the other related to scratch cards.”

The concept crops up after most U.S. elections - you'll recall some Vermonters asked to secede after President Bush's reelection in 2004.
But can states actually secede?


Not without a fight.


And we all know how that ended.


In 1978, Kenneth M. Stampp, who some believe to be the greatest Civil War historian of the 20th century, wrote that the constitution is actually silent on secession - and so in theory, the claims for secession were as strong as the ones against it.


As Daniel Hamilton, the co-director of the University of Illinois' Legal History Program, recently wrote in a symposium on the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War :


Stampp poses the question: "was secession unconstitutional?" And answers with, to my mind, a salutary and even correct answer: "we don't know."

In the same symposium, Stephen C. Neff, a professor at the Edinburgh Law School, said the South's used a "breach-of-compact theory" to justify secession. Southern legislatures asserted America was fundamentally a contractual union between sovereign states:



... which retained all aspects of their sovereignty after entry into the Union, save those that they had expressly delegated to the federal government. That original Constitutional contract-or compact-like any other contract, retained its legal validity only so long as the parties continued faithfully to adhere to it. Any breach of the compact by parties to it automatically entitled the innocent parties to withdraw from the arrangement.


But Neff adds: "Support for this line of argument in the text of the Constitution itself was altogether absent."


As it turns out, the question ended up not being litigated in the Supreme Court -as would usually be done when states challenge federal law - but fought over for five bloody years.


Neff:

In 1871, Justice Joseph P. Bradley of the federal Supreme Court pronounced it to have been "definitely and forever overthrown." What Justice Bradley tactfully left unmentioned was that overthrow had taken place on the fields of battle rather than in the panelled rooms of courts or legislatures. The question of the nature of the federal Union, in event, proved to be neither a judicial nor a political question, but a military one .


Are there any modern examples of states attempting to forcefully ignore federal law? Say, failing to implement school integration? Arkansas tried that in 1957, and failed .


What about Texas, which according to legend retains its own special secession clause?

Supreme Court Justice Salmon P. Chase settled that question all the way back in 1869 :


When, therefore, Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation. All the obligations of perpetual union, and all the guaranties of republican government in the Union, attached at once to the State. The act which consummated her admission into the Union was something more than a compact; it was the incorporation of a new member into the political body. And it was final. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States.

The Barcelona forward will get married this summer in his home town back in Argentina


Leo Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo's wedding now has a date and a locations. After it became known they would get married in 2017, the details have now come out.

According to 'Primicias Ya', the couple have began work on what could be the wedding of the year. The first details have been defined and, according to the reports, we now know when and where the Rosario wedding -- where they are both from -- will take place.

The date will be Jun. 24, which coincides with Messi's birthday. The Argentine international wants a day as important as his wedding to coincide with his 30th birthday.

Knowing the date and the location, now it just remains to be known where it will be celebrated, both in terms of the actual wedding and the party afterwards. According to 'Primicias Ya', the first part will be at La Catedral in Rosario, with the second part taking place at Arroyo Seco, where Messi often stays when in his home town.

It will be a huge event, with 700 people invited, including footballers from all over the world, journalists and, of course, the friends and family of Leo and Antonella, who are already parents to Thiago and Mateo.
