You've heard of the "new normal" around things like going back to work or shopping. But it also applies to sex, according to a sexual health charity. The Terrence Higgins Trust has published advice suggesting people avoid kissing, wear a face covering and choose positions that aren't face-to-face during sex such as the use of “glory holes”. It may sound tough, but people need to find a way "to balance our need for sex and intimacy with the risks of the spread of COVID-19", the Trust says. And the charity isn't alone, with Canada's Chief Public Health Officer now also encouraging people to "skip kissing" and cover their nose and mouth. Doctor Theresa Tam says: "The lowest risk sexual activity during COVID-19 involves yourself alone". https://doksblog.com/sex-and-coronavirus-how-to-have-sex-safely/

If you are among those who stopped shaving your pubic hair for this reason (that shaving pubic hair cause yeast infections), then you might want to reconsider. A new study from The Ohio State University, published in the journal PLOS ONE, found no connection between lack of pubic hair and Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The study of more than 200 college-aged women concluded that groomers are not at higher risk for contracting STIs. Hence, shaving pubic hair doesn’t cause yeast infection. Breastfeeding plays a particularly important role in child survival, especially in developing countries like Nigeria. Researchers are learning more about what pregnant women may experience if they are infected with the coronavirus that causes Covid-19. Pregnant and recently pregnant women who are diagnosed with Covid-19 in the hospital appear to be less likely to have symptoms of fever and muscle pain but more likely to be admitted to the intensive care unit, according to a new paper published in the BMJ medical journal on Tuesday. The study also found pregnant women with Covid-19 are at increased risk of delivering preterm, but preterm birth rates were not high. "We found that one in 10 pregnant or recently pregnant women who are attending or admitted to hospital for any reason are diagnosed as having suspected or confirmed Covid-19, although the rates vary," the researchers -- from various institutions in Europe and China -- wrote in the paper. ..............https://doksblog.com/study-reveals-more-about-possible-risks-to-pregnant-women/

Should you wear a mask when exercising outdoors? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone should wear a mask of some kind when they leave home, and some cities and towns now require a facial covering if you’re outside. To wear a mask or not when exercising outside is the question many of us are asking ourselves. According to the CDC, we should wear masks in “areas of significant community-based transmission”, such as grocery stores and pharmacies. While the CDC doesn’t list the outdoors as a high-density space, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s OK to exercise outdoors mask-free. Wearing a face mask isn’t a huge hassle when grocery shopping or heading out to the pharmacy like earlier mentioned, but when you exercise outdoor, the answer about wearing one isn’t always YES or NO. According to some experts however, there is no compelling medical reason for people who are exercising outside and maintaining social distancing to wear a mask. Most of us have seen the pictures of crowded streets or parks and trails with hoards of people gather together. Some people in the crowd are wearing face coverings and others aren’t. Generally, ....... https://doksblog.com/should-you-wear-face-mask-when-exercising-outdoors/

In some countries around the world, many measures have been implemented to help protect our physical health during the public health crisis. There is no gainsaying that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused many people to lose their jobs and become unemployed. Some of the casualties of the pandemic have unfortunately been economic. Many workers have been furloughed or are now unemployed, and others have been unable to work from home, affecting their income. The resulting financial and economic stress can feel overwhelming and hard to escape, affecting our relationships, sleep and health. This can permeate every area of life, making it hard to think, focus and generally function. It can be easy to imagine this situation as being never-ending, and even easier to avoid tough conversations with loved ones. Like with any hardship, often the toughest thing to do is to look our financial stress in the eye, stay present, and deal with it. In fact, current report found that one of the greatest sources of stress for 50% of Brits is financial. That means that at any given time, half of us might have heads spinning with worry, shame, and anxiety about the very same thing - but rarely is it spoken about. Money remains one of the major social taboos, and the secrecy only makes the problem worse. Then what is the way forward in managing the effects of unemployment on mental health? https://doksblog.com/managing-the-effects-of-unemployment-on-mental-health/

Are there effective ways to relieve sore breasts during pregnancy and postpartum? Sore breasts and painful nipples are among the earliest signs of pregnancy. After the ovum is fertilized, your body produces hormones like progesterone, estrogen and prolactin to prepare the body for pregnancy, delivery and lactation. These and other pregnancy hormones are responsible for the pains expectant mothers experience. What Causes Breast Pain? Pregnancy hormones stimulate the breasts to grow milk glands for the purpose of lactation. The breasts become swollen and tender because of increased blood supply. The nipples become very sensitive as they grow to become more conspicuous. Within the breast, there are milk ducts, which develop during pregnancy. These are responsible for producing and storing colostrum (breast milk). To create space for the growing ducts, and the colostrum, cells within the breast tissue stretch out. This is why the breasts become painful during pregnancy. After a few weeks, expectant mothers tend to get used to the pain that they stop noticing it, until after delivery. After delivery, the breasts start manufacturing large volumes of milk, causing your breasts to swell and feel heavy. This is called postpartum Breast Engorgement and it develops about 2 to 5 days after delivery. It is when your breasts become swollen, firm (rock-hard even) and tender. The pain and swelling coupled with the fact that your baby does not know how to latch and feed properly, nursing might start off as a very painful experience. Your baby might hurt your nipples leaving sores that make it impossible to nurse. In such cases, mothers opt for formula. The biggest challenge with formula is the cost. Knowing that you have loads of milk in your breasts but you have to buy formulas because you can’t get the milk out is just disheartening. However, read below to know some healthy tips to help you relieve breast pain during pregnancy and postpartum.......Continue Reading to find out https://doksblog.com/how-to-relieve-sore-breasts-during-pregnancy-postpartum/

If I may ask; are there items singles should have with them in order to improve or encourage a healthy living? Actually, leading a healthy life doesn't need to be complicated especially for singles. However, there are some lifestyles that have been impacting negatively to our daily lives and most of them can be handled by simply adopting or incorporating healthy practices and dashing out harmful ones. Adopting good lifestyle especially when single has a lot of long-time benefits. It can help you maintain and enjoy healthy living, encourage others around you to practice same, and such lifestyle can also be translated to your family when finally married thereby leading to healthy and happy generation. Without much ado, let us consider 5 common but important items single guys and ladies should have with them. Condom Hey, I’m not indirectly encouraging sexual practices among singles but take a second look at it from the other health dimension. High percentage of singles in the societies today, in one way or the other, involves themselves in sexual activity either at least once in a month or more. It’s well understood that unprotected sexual activities are the means people contract sexually transmitted diseases. It’s also obvious that many singles may expose themselves to all these infections without even knowing that they have contracted such from their partner. Hence the need to have condom with you either in your wallet, bag or keep it safe at home in case of emergency and stay at the safer side. Condoms are one of the most commonly used methods of contraception today. Contraceptive methods help to prevent pregnancies. This means using condoms is essentially a means of birth control. However, while birth control may be the primary purpose, condom is also able to provide other benefits to the user. One such advantage is protection from sexually transmitted infections or STIs like earlier mentioned...................https://doksblog.com/5-important-items-singles-should-have-with-them-for-healthy-living/

Overcoming bad habits? Bad habits interrupt your life and prevent you from accomplishing your goals. They jeopardize your health both mentally and physically. And they waste your time and energy as well. So why do we still do them? And most importantly, is there anything you can do about it? However, due to our urban, fast-paced everyday lifestyle, we are guilty of things like eating late, smoking, junk food that involves processed sugars, not drinking enough water, not getting enough sleeping, limited fitness activity, being caught up in our phone at the ping of every notification among the rest. All these unhealthy activities add to the bad habits that have negative impact on our general well-being. Therefore, these tips below will help you overcome your bad habits and become a better version of yourself. Introspect Or Point It Out So if you want to break or overcome a bad habit, the first step is to find the cause of the bad habit. Identifying and accepting that something is a bad habit will help you become more motivated to break it. Support System Many who suffer from bad habits tend to keep it to themselves out of the fear of judgement. But having a reliable support system, especially when you are trying to break a habit, is an utmost essential. A support system will ensure that you keep making progress on your journey and not fall back. Improve Lifestyle To successfully break a bad habit, you need to improve your overall lifestyle. Small lifestyle changes will automatically lead to better practices. Take an example: If a person is overweight, they will focus on healthier eating habits, exercising and being more active to get their weight to healthy BMI (Body Mass Index). Along with focusing on the problem, it is necessary to improve all aspects of your lifestyle. Accountability A person breaking a bad habit might have to face difficulties along the journey which might make them fall back to it. If you want to avoid relapsing, it is necessary to hold yourself accountable with the help of someone reliable. An example – If you’re going to break the snoozing habit, place your alarm away from your reach, so you have to get up and disable it. This will help in avoiding falling back to sleep. Finding A Replacement Habits are ingrained in all of us, which is why it is not possible to be rid of them completely. However, what can be done is to replace the bad habit with a healthier alternative that will not affect our lifestyle negatively. This ensures that something positive takes place along with the removal of a negative aspect in our everyday lives. These five expert tips are sure to help you with your journey towards overcoming bad habits and establishing good ones. Though initially confusing, the result is rewarding and having the willpower to overcome these harmful practices is more than enough to get through it. https://doksblog.com/overcoming-your-bad-habits-5-tips-that-will-help-you/

Over the years, people and scientists have been searching for the best and effective anti-malaria drug(s). Malaria, caused by the parasites claims thousands of lives annually and this has made it to draw global attention. Actually, malaria is getting harder to treat these days with recent development of artemisinin-resistant strain of the parasite that causes malaria been identified by scientists in Rwanda. But artemisinin-resistant strain was first recorded in 2008 in South East Asia. What Is Really Malaria? Malaria is a serious and sometimes fatal disease caused by a parasite that commonly infects a certain type of mosquito (female Anopheles mosquitoes) which feeds on humans. People who get malaria are typically very sick with high fevers, shaking chills, and flu-like illness. There are four kinds of malaria parasites that infect humans: Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae. In addition, P. knowlesi, a type of malaria that naturally infects macaques in Southeast Asia, also infects humans, causing malaria that is transmitted from animal to human (“zoonotic” malaria). P. falciparum is the type of malaria that is most likely to result in severe infections and if not promptly treated, may lead to death. Although malaria can be a deadly disease, illness and death from malaria can usually be prevented. Evolution Of Parasites In a journal article, scientists warned that malaria parasites that developed a resistance to previous drugs are “suspected to have contributed to millions of additional malaria deaths in young African children in the 1980s”. When the first malaria drug, Chloroquine, was developed, researchers thought that the disease would be eradicated within years. But since the 1950s the parasites have evolved to develop resistance to successive drugs. However, malaria infection is now commonly treated with a combination of two drugs – artemisinin and piperaquine. However, we list five medical examinations that couples must have gone through and discussed properly before making up their minds to either walk away or carry on with that walk down the aisle. 1. HIV Test HIV/AIDS is a notoriously scary infection and the sheer number of deaths it causes makes it a no-brainer for couples to check for its presence in each other. It always makes sense to know what you are getting into before getting rudely shocked when you’re already in it. 2. Genotype Test This test will tell whether one or both partners are sicklers (SS), carriers of the sickle cell trait (AS) or whether their genotype is normal (AA). Such is the importance of this test that even without being told, couples have been known to take the initiative of finding out for themselves. And where there are couples who are too careless to check, marriage counselors have been known to mandate it for anyone who wants to marry. 3. Blood Group Test[img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img]

Refusing to subject themselves to this test means couples carelessly run the risk of a condition called hemolytic disease of the newborn which, causes stillbirths and miscarriages. Knowing your partner's blood group can prove useful in saving his or her life during an emergency. 4. Test For STDs This may sound extreme and appear like the whole point of these medical examinations is being overstretched but that’s not the case. This is because infections like gonorrhea, if left untreated can grow out of hands and lead to infertility in the woman; causing strains and other issues in the marriage. 5. Fertility Test Index This one is done to be sure of the fertility of both the husband and the wife. According to health practitioners, fertility problems are usually not detected by couples until about two or more years after marriage and unsuccessful trials at conceiving. So it is important for the test to be done as it profiles the reproductive hormones in both partners: semen analysis is carried out on the man and ovulation tested in the woman. Couples who intend to not have kids may need not worry about this one though. Wish you success as you go through these tests in order to validate your health status towards getting married. https://doksblog.com/5-important-medical-tests-every-couple-needs-before-marriage/general-health #OduigweChideraDok………..
