I dont care, you can blame it on whatever you want. It's very stupid for a man to spend all his savings and every last penny on his wedding day, which will last less than 24 hours. A man with sense wouldn't be blinded by the western culture/traditions to empty his bank account dry for one day. Thats basic human knowledge. As an adult you should be able to understand the significance of spending wisely and saving.

I watched with dismay how my elder brother cleared his life savings for a few hours wedding only to start from scratch again.

Some fellas will swarm this thread to say "the lady and her guy can handle it their way". But the truth is that families hijack weddings while you foot the bills.

My questions are why please people for few hours and wipe out your life savings only to start from page one again?

Is this culture counterproductive and retrogressive?

These questions are begging for answers.

Nigeria's southerners are becoming enlightened with the speed of light.

Increasingly they want out through calls for restructuring or outright secession.

You really won't know when it is done, even our parents started it, they will enquire about the persons background, kindred, village to know if some certain traditions they do is acceptable in their own place, to know if some certain ailments like epilepsy, madness and the likes runs in the family, in the east they look out for OSU and freeborn. Even witch craft and death too. When your record is clean you have nothing to fear, just like most guys will leave the shore of Nigeria going to Malaysia and Dubai without convincing you of any legitimate activities so because you want sleeping dog to lay you won't conduct enquiry. Marriage isn't a day affair na. So many women have exchanged their true love for all these foreign based just because they display affluence, at the run many are single, dead frustrated and even regretting it.
