Family / Re: My Husband Has A Different Surname To The One He Uses.. by donigspain(m): 8:08am On May 14, 2018
Morwendy:
Hi. New here but have read threads for years til now and I just have a simple question to ask . Ok, I know how dim I sound but I married my Nigerian husband 8 years ago. Next week, we apply for his permanent leave to remain here. We've been happy enough since we got married, the usual ups and downs but nothing too serious. Anyway, I found that he has a website advertising a business in Nigeria. Asked him about it and he says yes its his but its not up and running yet (like thats why I was mad at him rather than because he set ghis up without even telling me). I was looking at some photos on his site and I came across a poster laying out the days events for his fathers funeral. At the foot of the poster it says 'by [his name but different surname] on behalf of the family. Now, this new surname is the same as his fathers so I believe it to be his true name. Asked him about it and he says that his surname is different to the rest of his family because he chose to take his paternal grandfathers name. I assume his father should also bear the grandfathers name? He just keeps telling me that I don't understand Nigerian customs/traditions but now the word 'scammed' keeps popping into my head. A simple yes or no would be enough - is it usual for a man to NOT take his fathers name? Thanks in advance.
Yes, it is possible especially if he is Igbo. We often take after our grandfather's name or even further down the ancestral lineage [great great grandfather].
My surname is my great grandfather's name. Sometimes, kindreds adopt one surname often the first settler.

The risks associated with USSD transactions are too much.

If you want bulk money movement, use debit/credit card or visit the banking hall.

oh wow. This put a smile on my face. Please which state is Idemili in?

I am sure many people, non igbos, especially the yorubas will have some smiles on their face.

God bless all the people commenting.

We need more comments to put this to front page in order to counter the damage done flirtykaren's post. You have no idea until you have done a google search. But Nairaland is head above others and therefore it could serve as a reference point with better perspective, information and eductation.

I need someone from Abia state oooo. Please speak up if you are from Abia state.
I'm from Abia state. Item in Bende LGA to be precise.

My immediate elder sister's bride price was put at N375 (three hundred and seventy-five naira) and it was customary not to pay it all at once no matter how rich the in law is. He paid it in 3 installments.

The traditional demands could sum up to N70,000. If you decide to celebrate the marriage, the cost is at your discretion.

I've been privileged to witness many marriages from my place and I can assure you the traditional demands are not expensive.

PS: I'm typing from GIGM bus heading to Onitsha for my cousin's wedding tomorrow. Her traditional demands were all cleared last year by the in law and they've been living as husband and wife. They just want to celebrate the union.

Do you take alcohol most nights? Usually the stout brands?

That's the only thing that gets my throat dry and itchy in the morning of the next day especially if I don't take enough water before going to bed the previous night. undecided

You should also stop taking antbiotics since you're certified OK by doctors. Antibiotics is not some medications you take without having need for it.

Hi OP,

You should always back up your assertions with enough research data. I won't blame you though because from a distance, your assertion may seem correct not until you bring research and data into the picture.

When it comes to share of browsers on mobile, Opera [mini] still leads. More people in Nigeria use opera than any other browser.

The Nigerian cyberspace does not end on your [or my] mobile phone.

I have attached screenshots of a national campaign I am presently running and a research report from a reputable digital platform. You will find Opera occupying the prestigious 1st position with 49% market share while your Chrome comes a distant second.

Thank you.

You're not using LinkedIn well. I have just 600+ connections but I've gone for over 10 "head-hunt" interviews, over 8 "applied" interviews.

My current job came from LinkedIn. I was contacted by a HR looking for someone in my profession.

Do you know how to network, brand yourself and infuse relevant keywords in your profile?

This is a threat since it is repeatedly coming line first thing every morning.
He is yet to confirm receipt of message.

By law, it is assumed he has not read it. Reason the landlord is constantly sending a reminder to put him on notice.

I am Igbo. My Yoruba landlady puts me on notice one month to rent expiration and I don't quarrel with her because I understand. I have lived in her house for 3 years and 6 months without a single issue. I pay as at when due. I start saving for the next rent from the first month.

OP is a bad tenant. It's his type that makes landlords to discriminate when renting out their properties.

Some organizations you need to contact:

- National Pension Commission

- Nigerian Labour Congress

Your previous employer (recruitment firm) knows that PENCOM and the rest don't joke with such cases. In fact, they are always eager to get such cases to use defaulting companies as target practice abi scape goat.

Am I the only one with a different point of view here? Why should Google block ads and pop-ups from other sites, while they spare theirs? NONSENSE.....
Google ads come up as natives and not pop-ups or redirects.

Google has always been against pop-up ads since time immemorial. They're annoyingly distracting and impede on pleasurable digital experience.

Long overdue!

All these unethical Digital Marketers who, while trying to circumvent Google Ad Policy on certain products/services, patronise these "wicked" affiliate marketing platforms and third-party pop ad networks will be made to bite the dust of digital marketing. grin

Pop Ads, unscrupulous redirects, unethical native ads, illegal email scraping extensions and phishing links should be banned. tongue

Same way Muslims consult Alfas and imams for some juju. Even more evil is that these people often use human sacrifices in their practices. undecided

Don't ever listen to anyone here saying calm down, settle it outside social media or leave it to God. Don't make that mistake.

You worked for your money which he fraudulently collected from you. Make sure you get ALL your money back before taking down his pictures. Social media is all you've got. These evidences are crucial. People like him have a way of getting away with prosecution in a corrupt system like ours. They can easily bribe their way out and police will frustrate you.

His wife must have benefited from the crime either actively or passively, knowingly or unknowingly. It took your posting his wife's pictures to get him pay a part of the money. All he wants is to get you to take down all the images. He is not remorseful at all. If posting his wife's pictures will get you your money back please post it o. I have 30k real followers on Twitter, I will help you repost them across social media.
