Ibime:Hmm. Nice advice. I guess before immigrating, one should know exactly his purpose and destination. Nice talk. |
Ibime:Solid points made here. ![]() Good luck in your endeavors, I'm working towards immigrating to the UK soon. I learnt if you first visit as a tourist, it paves the way to come back later on a business visit of up to 6 months stay and subsequent renewal, how true? |
ToyinDipo:What do you mean by me creating my own argument?? You said black people feel inferior to the white man and I am pointing out your logical fallacy. You can't just generalize all black people into one category. Black people in Africa have little to no racial experience to what a black person in America would experience. How you couldn't grasp this logic befuddles me. For almost all black people in the USA to continue to protest or engage in forms of activism shows you that they are fully aware of their rights and don't feel inferior to the white man. Such inferiority complex is more common here where people are less informed of the nasty history that transpired in America between the two races. |
ToyinDipo:It's good you educate yourself properly on issues like these before forming misleading opinions. Racism is experienced differently in Africa than America. There are hardly any blacks that feel inferior to the white man in America. The few white people you see in Africa are usually expatriates and as such easily gain access to prominent people here or in prominent places here. Africans are easily taken by prominent people, not just white visitors. If a politician or a famous celebrity comes around an area, watch as people would automatically be swayed by the persons aura. You will hardly see a black man born in the USA today feeling inferior to him. They are now better informed of their history. |
Victornezzar:I no understand una gist since. |
Ibime, nihilist, afrodoc, chic2pimp, diggz, raumdeuter etc, have any of you guys abroad had personal experiences of racism? It would be nice to share with the group, don't you think? |
nihilistjnr:You say you are not against activism yet you have constantly downplayed the role and achievements of BLM movement in eradicating racism from the American society and called them ineffectual. Check out some of their achievements below. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_567996bae4b0b958f6583320 I don't understand what you mean when you say we should be in the room of power if we want our voices to be heard. Blacks already have a lot of people in powerful positions more than all other minority groups combined. This powerful group have successfully campaigned for and enacted prominent changes. For instance, the use of vehicle cameras and police body cameras came about as a result of black lobbyists. Also there have been many state's police reform laws in the south and anti-discrimination laws that have been put in place as a result of black protests and lobbying too. you can't just sit in your home enjoying your champagne and say successful black people don't care about other black people, that is false. moreso, if you are hinting that black people are naturally selfish, that is also a false assertion, seeing that man is naturally self-serving and greedy. It's essential for natural selection. The advantage other minorities like the Indian's, the jews or the Asians have is that their countries of origin have also built up international pride and prestige that can speak up for them and sort of hold the west to ransom for unjust segregation unlike their african counterparts that have no voice or prestige whatsoever internationally. You have to encourage black activism no matter what. It's only through the constant protests, can the blacks attain their natural basic Human Rights. We blacks shouldn't be seen criticizing the efforts of other blacks towards the freedom cause. |
larride:I really don't want us to argue about this issue here anymore. I stated what I believe to be true, I gave you a video of a leader voicing his suspicion towards the igbos, War will eventually ensue, years after this statement was made. However I didn't make that sentence to push any agenda. ![]() Anyways, If my views are contrary to yours. Just let it slide. |
Oasis007: ![]() Hehe, see me see wahala ![]() Which one come be trap again is there any animal here eh double 07Abeg oo, I am above tribal sentiment. I do not harbour any form of hate towards anybody at all on the basis of tribe. Contrary to your belief, I simply posted that topic here that day because I believed this was the most intellectually advanced group here on nairaland capable of discussing the civil war without emotions running high. Today, I made that point to buttress my point about the suffering of the jews and how hatred can be healed with time. It wasn't to elicit controversial emotions. |
Nihilist, you have to get this, a lot of progress has already been made, the points you have outlined is proof of that. Today you have more black men in congress than ever before, more black people acquiring wealth than ever before, more black judges than ever before. All these points to significant progress being made, however the protests have to continue so as to completely eradicate the problem. This progress has been possible because of the movements like the BLM. You have been voicing your opinions against the blacklivesmatter movement, making it sound as if their efforts have been totally wasted or useless and that is completely false. The movement has yielded progress in the black community. The movement has to be encouraged for more people still in the dark to be enlightened. |
larride:Are you tone deaf or what I really don't want this discourse to digress to tribal issues. You can hear a prominent leader giving reasons for his suspicion and hatred towards his fellow tribe and you are still asking me rubbish questions!I normally regard you as a smart political analyst so better go and brush up on your political history. Lastly, I don't hate anybody, I only used that point as a correlation to my major point. |
timay:You marvel me. For some reason, you guys seem to think that a belief which reigned supreme for centuries and was passed down from generations to generations can easily be shed in a twinkle of an eye. IT IS A GRADUAL PROCESS. It took more than 200 years for a half black man to become the president. You saying black judges and and politicians and wealthy black people are not doing anything to help the black man's cause is a statement that flies in the face of facts. It is an insult to the efforts of many prominent black people who have walked the streets in protest for their rights inspite of dangers to their lives. Or those who have even lost their lives while fighting for the basic right to LIVE. only 60 years ago, black people couldn't vote, or seat anywhere they wanted or eat in any restaurant of their choices, or even use certain public toilets. They were denied these just on the basis of their skin color but today they can at least do this things because of the intense struggles of prominent politicians and activists who lobbied for these rights. Obama did make significant efforts for the black man especially in his housing reform schemes and income equality reforms but he was limited in his efforts by the facts that him being a black preside cast suspicion upon him by whites and other minority groups that he may be favourable to the blacks over them. The reforms I stated earlier were decried by republicans as geared towards only helping blacks and congress always blocked his plans. saying that prominent blacks are not helping the black cause is a fallacious statement. Only time and constant protests and sensitization to the plights of black men will further help the black man's cause. Racism which took years to form and emulsify will not just disappear from their minds, only constant sensitization will shed the belief. |
larride:I don't need to talk much on this in order not to needlessly argue over this. Simply watch the video below that perfectly captures my point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_odAy4rVz8 |
Furthermore, you opined earlier that other minority groups have strong lobby groups and that is why other minority groups don't complain or are least afraid of racial segregation. First of all, no other minority group is hated or killed as much as much as the black race. Very few Latinos, Indians or Chinese are killed on racial grounds or the belief that they are not worth living. Secondly, what makes the situation so dire for the black man is that he has no better homeland to fall back on. The Chinese have the Second highest economy, India are one of the 10 richest country. While all African countries are shitholes as described by their leader. If a Chinese is maltreated, he can say fuck_ it, I can't take it anymore and return to his motherland. A middle income earner in America will be a rich man in Beijing or Hongkong, likewise an emigrant Indian in Mumbai or New Delhi. The black man in USA knows that his condition there is still better than coming down to his homeland. China, India and Israel all have better prestige and power internationally than any African country, so it is difficult for any of them to speak up for the black man's cause in the USA when such matters arises unlike their other minority counterparts. So apart from the jews, there are no lobby groups for other minorities like India or China in the USA because their countries already have a certain level of prestige internationally and wealth that can absorb emigrants returning. |
nihilistjnr:You still don't get it, do you? You always understate or undermine the efforts of the blacklivesmatter movement and I am trying to point out the historical context and their significance. Why that movement is necessary since you are oblivious to the plight of a black man in the United States. There is a very big difference between the hatred of a group of people and an entire degradation of human beings. Its very different when people hate you than when people genuinely don't see you as a complete human being and that difference seems to be lost on you. I was about further buttressing my point when you replied. The jews have been hated for centuries in only Europe based on purely religious grounds. This forced them into the financial business and tax collection which enabled their group to be more mobile and easily escape hate crimes. However, today antisemitism arises simply from jealousy and suspicion of their wealth since they were so successful in their financial endeavours. It's disingenuity to compare racism to antisemitism. First of all, antisemitism is mostly based on religious grounds and now that religion is on a heavy decline in Europe and America, very few people still hate jews on that grounds but you still have people who don't entertain the idea of a black man having the same Human Rights and values as them. Comparing the jews and the blacks is not a fair comparison. Worse off, comparing the Irish who are simply fighting for their independence. Problems have always been abound between groups in all parts of society but you can never compare any with the social stratification the blacks have faced. It's not reasonable. |
![]() Funny how the African mind and mentality works. Once again, every body is thanking "God" for the works of fellow brilliant human beings. If the baby had a permanent skin defect, people would say it is the work of village people or transferred curses or better yet, a punishment from "God" as a result of a sin committed much earlier and suggests she goes for "deliverance" or intense spiritual guidance. Now that she has used medical science to solve the problem, as Usual God takes the glory while the doctors and pharmacist are relegated to the background. We really need to work on our mentality for the sake of the next generation. We need to shed this ultra religious superstition which we hold dear and embrace scientific knowledge. Only then can we progress forward. |
nihilistjnr:I disagree with your post. While it contains salient points, it still lacks the predisposed mentality at play here and the historical context of the present narrative. First of all, of all the minority groups you listed, none had undergone centuries of abject servitude, suffering and extreme human degradation like the black race. You See, for such lengthy oppression to have taken place, the white oppressors had to have justifiable reasons for their human dehumanization. on one hand, they had religion which supported and encouraged slavery, on the other hand, They had pseudo-scientific theories(read up scientific racism) that consolidated their racial beliefs. With these two psychological support pillars, they subjugated the black man to centuries of human dehumanization and racial conquest. For better understanding, I will highlight some of the white man's beliefs backed by pseudoscientific theories. 1. They believed that the black man did not completely evolve as a human, that there was just little difference between the primates( gorilla, apes and monkeys) to the black man. As a matter of fact, they put the black man in same cages as the gorillas and apes in exhibition zoos for the whites and their children to observe. 2. They believed that the black man's brain was smaller than the white man's. 3. They believed that the white man was intellectually superior to the black man. For a long time, many didn't think that the black man could learn how to read and write. 4. They believed that the black man's physiological makeup was much stronger than the white man's, that his bones and muscles were the strongest of the races just like the gorillas hence he was best suited to the farms and plantations as a beast of burden. Of course, with such racial beliefs firmly rooted in their minds, it inevitably reflected in the social strata of society. With the black man seen as closer to an animal, they were denied basic Human Rights or value which I would also outline. For a long time, inter-racial copulation was viewed as bestiality. Inter-racial marriage was viewed as a societal abomination since the black man was not just seen as an animal but also as just property. Now I have elucidated the kind of society a black person lived in for centuries. We both know how hard it is for such endemic beliefs which held sway for centuries to be shed. Such beliefs were passed down from generations to generations. that is why murders like the cop's own are always news. Because society knows the motivation behind such murders. TO BE CONTINUED LATER. |
afrodoc2:The painful part of this is that people here had already latched onto his rubbish narrative. I mean how gullible can people be ![]() |
GamalNasser:you are an idiot who believes in useless conspiracy theories. if I ask you for proof of your outlandish claims now, you will start mumbling like a bumbling urchin. |
GamalNasser:You are a stupid black man that has sold his brain to the white man. You see a black man being murdered and your first thought is to politicize it. Gross stupidity is your middle name. |
afrodoc2:Indeed, some fools are already giving flimsy excuses on behalf of the white man on different threads. Just go to the American politics thread and see how stupid some black people can be. Just see an example of one of the fools. GamalNasser: |

seankafor:I agree. Silently, this administration is rejuvenating the Nigerian railway. Amaechi is one of the best ministers in this administration. I just hope same can be materialized in the power sector. |
BetWinners:Poor investments and wasteful lifestyle choices. |
FBS:You sound like someone who lacks foresight. First of all, who is "God"? You do realize that the concept of "God" was named by humans right? Just like people name everything around us, the Christians chose to name their own supreme deity as "God". There are thousands of other supreme deities in different parts of the world. So I ask again, who is "God"? |
popizaino:Who created your own God? Clarify the loopholes in your own creation story for me. Where was the light from that created day and night on the first day? Why are you not a Moslem? What makes you chose Christianity over your great grandfather's religion? |
Na this celebrities own shock me. I never knew all this high class celebrities are deeply involved in this shit_ |
CAPdan21:First of all, all laws of science began with presumptions(hypothesis) before they were further worked on and experimented upon. I don't know how I can make it any more clearer to you. The theories of evolution and the big bang are simply accepted premises that are being worked on. This doesn't mean that it is a fact. It just means that it is a thought process that certain evidences support. Secondly, you are asking me why I don't believe the Christian creation story. For that, I have given you the obvious fallacies in that story. Now I will ask you these questions and expect honest answers. Why don't you believe the Hindu creation story that states that the God of creation Brahma was born from the navel of a snake? Why don't you believe the Yoruba creation story that states that obatala left oludumare in the heavens and poured sand from his pouch to create the earth? What makes you believe in the Christian version of creation that states that the entire universe was created in 6 days? |
ChristineC:well, atheism is simply a logical position on God's existence. Theism means knowledge. While atheism means lack of knowledge (about anything) but the words are usually geared towards religion. What happened in 1914? |
CAPdan21:I am not angry, the sheer level of nescience corralled on your last post was mind boggling. I have told you this, the theory of evolution or the Big Bang Theory are just that, Theories. They are not laws. It is just an acceptable premise upon which further work or proof is needed. You need to go and study the stages of scientific research from hypothesis to it becoming law. As I have told you before, the beauty of science is that it is constantly worked upon unlike religion where you cannot question it's laws. I don't fully believe in evolution or the Big Bang, i just know that they make more sense than someone telling me we were created from the navel of a snake or someone telling me the universe magically appeared in 6 days. Accepting limitation of knowledge is better than believing false information. |
