LAW 5 - So Much Depends On Reputation-Guard It with Your Life
Our dear honorable was held in high esteem within the polity. His name became synonymous with integrity and due process when he shone like a million stars as the leader of the Integrity Group that ousted Hon. Patricia Etteh. He courted and got the right kind of attention. Hear Greene: “Through reputation alone you can intimidate and win; once it slips, however, you are vulnerable, and will be attacked on all sides… Always be alert to potential attacks and thwart them before they happen.” Assuming the circulated phone conversation proves true, did Lawan heed this advice when he forgot the class and stooped as low as discussing bribe settlement over the phone with Otedola? Or personally visiting someone he was supposed to be investigating for whatever reason at all? No! He wasn’t vigilant at all…he disregarded his reputation and is now paying for that negligence. He also transgressed by going into a covert operation, according to him, all alone. Otedola may also be fighting to protect his credibility by puncturing that of his accuser and it worked for him. I will love to add law 26 (Keep Your Hands Clean) here; it tells us that Femi Otedola may not be acting alone here. ***just musing sha*** “You must seem a paragon of civility and efficiency: Your hands are never soiled by mistakes and nasty deeds.”

LAW 8 - Make Other People Come to You - Use Bait If Necessary
“When you force the other person to act, you are the one in control. It is always better to make your opponent come to you, abandoning his own plans in the process.” In this very case, Farouk held the aces; he was doing a great job. All oil importers and marketers wanted to befriend and bribe him. He needed to act like the chairman he was and allow the courtiers come and beg/bribe him…in his comfort zone! If he really was into a crime-busting operation, he would get his hotel room wired up and have Otedola’s visit on tape. He didn’t do that and lost it. Again, on the contrary, Otedola the fox outmaneuvered our amiable investigator by dragging him (Lawan) to his (Otedola’s) fully-wired Maitama home to pick up a part-payment of the bribe sum. He let his guard down and handed the power game to his opponent. How on earth did that happen to Farouk with all his intelligence and experience? Let’s move on please.

LAW 12 - Use Selective Honesty and Generosity to Disarm Your Victim
The tenet of this law was very greatly observed and the observer(s) is/are today reaping the spoils. Nigerian politicians and businessmen especially the friends of government are held in the lowest esteem. Their image is nothing to write home about due to the wide-spread sleaze in the country. Taking every side of the bribery story as the truth, I make bold to say that when Otedola wanted to bribe Farouk, he wanted some public credibility if things were to go wrong. So, he visited Farouk and (sincerely) offered him a book/report (could be a Trojan horse) that would aid his (Farouk’s) job. Then he offered a bribe that he felt only a mad man could reject. He also ran to some Secret Service friends to claim victimisation and extortion. Then months later, when he could not honour his agreement to pay up the balance, he resorted to blackmail and it paid off. He treated us to an audio track and promised/threatened to entertain us with the video version if we still nurse any element of doubt. Today, Mr. Femi Otedola’s image has transformed from that of a cunningly corrupt businessman to that of a great national crime fighter, to the uninformed. Some people are even calling for national honours for him. “One sincere and honest move will cover over dozens of dishonest ones. Open-hearted gestures of honesty and generosity bring down the guard of men the most suspicious people.”

Politics / Faroukgate And The 48 Laws Of Power - Donmeca by Donmeca(m): 10:48am On Jul 21, 2012
A lot have been said, heard, written and read on this subject and they all seem like the gospel truth. I am not here to tell the bribery story afresh or to pass judgment. My mission here is to weigh the issues at stake side-by-side with the basic precincts of human existence and our perpetual struggle for relevance. I have always seen the whole subsidy probe as a power game and I expected the parties involved to use their best weapons and lifelines when necessary. Man by nature is a political animal and as such, his hunger for power is unmatched even among the apolitical. Come with me as we travel through the pages of Robert Greene’s THE 48 LAWS OF POWER and find out the observance transgressions of applicable laws as it relates to FaroukGate. All quotes are courtesy of the reference book by Robert Greene.

LAW 1 - Never Outshine Your Master
Here we are advised to always make those above us feel comfortably in-charge and superior. We must never try so much to please them by flaunting our brilliance or we run the risk of inspiring fear and insecurity in them. They are our masters and as such must appear quite intelligent and brilliant…at least more than we the subordinates are. Farouk Lawan transgressed this law. In fact he has been running afoul of the law from 2003. He is young and smart; always making cheer-provoking contributions on the floor of the House of Representatives. As the chairman of the House Committee on Education, he grilled cabinet ministers and heads of parastatal over allocations and the use of same. The UBEC, NUC, ETF (now TetFund), NERC, etc, all bowed at Hon. Lawan’s feet. He has had a hand in the rise and fall of every speaker of the House from day one of the democratic experiment…ask Buhari, Na’Aba, Masari, Etteh, Bankole…even Tambuwal will bear me witness. He was that influential and his profile just couldn’t stop rising! This must have sent shivers down the spines of both his colleagues and the executive. Yes the executive, both at the centre and in his native Kano State. Many, including the civil society, have started touting his name for the Kano government house come 2015. Little wonder why when there was a need to probe the very powerful, the lot fell on Farouk…was there a set-up? You can also checkout law 21, quite close. “Everyone has insecurities. When you show yourself in the world and display your talents, you naturally stir up all kinds of resentment, envy, and other manifestations of insecurity…With those above you, however, you must take a different approach: When it comes to power, outshining the master is perhaps the worst mistake of all.”

LAW 3 - Conceal Your Intentions and LAW 4 - Always Say Less Than Necessary
I will fault every public holder in Nigeria on these two laws. Their observance gives you more power and clout than you truly deserve while a transgression will surely bring you flat on the ground, if things don’t go as expected. It is better to be quiet and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubts. We talk too much in this country! Swear-in a president, governor, justice or minister you will hear promises and sometimes, even outright threats oozing from his mouths. What happened to the mantra, action speaks louder than words? Every committee promises more yet ends up delivering less…sometimes nothing at all. In a probity war like this, Robert Greene hints that you “keep people off-balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no clue what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defense” because “when you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common you appear; and the less in control... when you say less than necessary, you inevitably appear greater and more powerful than you are.” The Lawan Committee became too loud and played to the gallery at some point and thus broke the above laws. Words like-there will be no sacred cows, culprits shall be brought to book, we will leave no stone unturned, and we shall expose and nail the cabal-are just empty word to me. Stop warning them off and nail them let us see!

OP, it should read "The Presidential Committee on the Review of outstanding issues has recommended that the First Lady office should be scrapped." not Patience Jonathan,s office .

Don't mind mischiefmakers.

Then, how can u scrap what isn't there in d first place? Legally, there is no office like First Lady in Nigeria. Our leaders have bn feasting on our docility to shove a lot shitty things down our throat.

Bankers; young men and women are very well paid to commensurate for the high risk, trust and humiliations they are exposed to but the time demands is quite high. A break from the routine irritations from angry and desperate customers and tricks of the ever dynamic fraudsters is too valuable to overlook. Fridays call for celebrations with official mails usually signed off with “TGIF! – Thank God It’s Friday!” but today is different for the employees of Globalised Bank Plc. So different! This Friday bodes evil heralded by uncertainty.

At the ever busy Wuse branch of the bank, there is an ominous silence in the banking hall. Palpable fear envelopes the heavy air. The walls, window blinds, ceiling, wall clocks, and furniture in the hall are silently screaming their protests and goodbyes. The hitherto lively staff now look downcast as they await the appointed time. A look at their faces betrays fear, expectations and anxiety. They have all heard and are waiting for the inevitable – yes, it must come to pass! Some will survive while others will have to bow out. Tears will be shed – for some it will be tears of joy and thanksgiving while for the others it will be those of sorrow, regret, desperation and uncertainty; where will they go from here?

Today, exactly one week to Christmas, the Management of Globalised Bank has concluded plans for massive disengagement of staff-mostly those in the junior cadre. The disengagement letters have been signed and dispatched from the corporate head office in Lagos to the four hundred and twenty eight branches of the bank. It is rumoured that at least two thousand three hundred and forty six staff members will be affected nationwide and the Abuja Region alone will produce about five hundred and twenty five of this number. The worst thing here is that nobody seems to know the criteria for the pruning process, thus anybody, from anywhere can be shown the way out. Even members of the senior management staff are not spared in this impending tsunami. For over a week now, informal debates have been rife about the formula for the unavoidable downsizing....

Continues...pls tag along.

Honest criticisms are welcome.

Friday is workers’ favourite day. People come to work on a Monday morning looking forward to the week’s Friday night. The day is so loved because it is the first day of the weekend – it ushers in the ‘rest’ days of the week. Everybody cherishes Fridays; government employees, private sector employees, lawyers, bankers, business executives, traders and artisans. The religious see the weekend as a time out from work to attend faith based activities in a bid to get closer to the Creator. Others see it as an opportunity to unwind, catch up with friends, attend social functions, party, get drunk in the process and oversleep comfortably bearing in mind that no official business will come calling the next day.

The weekend offers workers the opportunity to take a closer look at their homes and give them the much needed cleaning. Some people only get to see the colours of their rooms and bedspreads on Saturdays and Sundays as they leave home as early as 5:00 am only to get home as late as 11:00 pm on week days. This group of people uses reserve energy to step out of the car, UnCloth, take a shower and then fall flat in the bed knowing that there is a constant 4:00 am alarm to shriek them out of bed for another leg in the marathon race for survival. To them, cooking, sweeping, laundry and other cleaning are done once in a week. The food thus cooked is rammed into the freezer and must last for the whole week – whenever it pleases almighty Power Holding Company Nigeria. Life is so regimented!

The weekend, beginning with Friday, thus offers the Nigerian worker a welcome opportunity to change that bedspread, prepare that new meal, clean a few things, club and drink, watch football and other games and most importantly, get the much needed sleep. This is more pronounced with bankers. It has been argued that bankers strive to earn money they rarely get time to spend or even know how it is spent. Banking has been described as modern day slavery....

Dear Haters,

I was briefed that you people did not even wait for my plane to land in Brazil before you started calling for my head, if not for God that did not deliver me into your hands, I would have gone Dana and your joy would have known no bound. But my God is ever faithful to His servants; He will not allow Patience to become a widow nor my ‘anointing’ to run dry. I was informed that my. crime this time is that I travelled out of the country to attend a summit while there were riots in Kaduna and Zaria, you people never cease to amaze me, I thought you would have grown up by now and come to terms with the realities of modern day politics as it is being practiced in other parts of the world.

I heard some of you said I am wicked and heartless, that of course is in addition to the clueless tag you. have all given me, an expression which is fast becoming a cliché, albeit an incorrect one considering the number of times I have outwitted you all over the past two years. I pray that you continue to see me as a man lacking in tact and strategy until after 2015 when I shall begin my first term (yes, first term because this one is just a trial, I’m using it to learn the ropes).

So according to your logic because there were riots in Kaduna and Zaria, precipitated by the bombings on Sunday (something you all should be used to by now) I should put myself under house arrest and not travel again? The same lot of you that  condemned my 3 days national mourning declaration for Dana Crash, what is it that you want from me sef? You said mother-hen should lay eggs, it laid eggs, you said it should hatch, it hatched, you said it should brood the chickens, it did, yet mother-hen did not escape your knife to her throat on Christmas day. Listen, I will not be like mother-hen, you people cannot go and come and kill me for my wife, concubines and children, I shall not die but live to enjoy the loots I have so stored up for retirement.

If you people are as intelligent as you have portrayed yourselves to be, then the necessities behind my Brazil trip will not be lost on you. By the way, you didn’t congratulate me on the successful murder and burial of the fuel subsidy scam probe panel report. You see? Na beef una just dey beef me. Just when you thought there was no way out for me, I dribbled you to the left, dribbled you to the right, did a flick even Lionel Messi wouldn’t dare to attempt, and before you knew it GBAM! The ball was at the back of the net. Fuel subsidy probe dead and buried, the only ghost haunting last year’s election done away with, allowing me to focus on 2015 while keeping you busy with more distractions.

How come you didn’t notice we started payment of 2012 subsidy claims this week? Hahahaha, you were too busy mourning Farouk and his dollars. But it’ll be naïve of you to think the man’s political career is over o, infact it has just started. He has now entered his name in the Corruption Hall of Fame, a prerequisite to being a successful PDP politician. We’ll reward him handsomely come 2015. Yes I said reward. Oh! So you still think…………..common, you can’t be so naïve! You people can make somebody laugh sha.

So we are in Brazil to celebrate the death of Farouk’s report, it calls for an elaborate celebration. It is not everyday that a N2 trillion scam go unpunished, and yes that explains why I have 116 delegates with me. We had to leave Sambo behind, but I know he’s not happy; he wants to have fun too. Come to think of it, what is your problem gan? Is the money yours? It is our ‘oyel’ money now and we decided to share it so that a man from the ‘oyel’ region can ascend the throne. It is turn by turn, osondi owendi; let the other regions go and find their own ‘oyel’ or wait till I am done in 2023. That is part one, part two is that I heard Cayman Island is not very far from Brazil, I learnt they have very good banks there so I have come to open the anonymous accounts I will use to save my share of this year’s subsidy loot. I am not getting younger so I have to think ahead, those Nigerian banks cannot be trusted, the Dubai banks will not accept my money and UK is now a no-go-area. From what I have seen of Rio de Janeiro it is not a bad place to come and hide if casala burst anytime, for I know the thoughts that you have towards me, they are of evil and not of good, but I will conquer you all.

I have asked Maku to tell you that I am using e-governance to attend to events at home from here, I will use e-looting to injure your foreign reserve while Boko switches to e-terrorism for proper distraction. More and more people will fall into e-poverty, the rest will run to e-religion, PDP will use e-rigging to win the 2015 e-lections and you my critics will go on e-xile.

I am in such high spirit today (no pun intended) and I would have loved to give you a chop-knuckle, but I won’t, instead I am signing this letter off with the middle finger of my left hand, take it. We are going on a boat cruise right now, haters catch me if you can >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>!

From Rio with love,

U sound like u read anywhere that d Imo state govt wil build a free university. Now listen Rochas Okorocha who owns Rochas Foundation is d businessman who can b distinguished from d Politician in d Imo state govt. His charity organisation, RF wishes to add a university to their list of laudable achievements aimed at empowering indigent Nigerians. They have foreign and local patners and donors incase u think it is Imo state taxpayers` money. So it is doable for all doubting thomases. I won't blame u guys cos we've believed so much and got spanked severally. We've lost hope in govt but never u doubt it when u hear that Dangote plans the world largest power plant....cos he is not govt. He's a capitalist bizman who will do anything for more money. So is Rochas Okorocha.
