By Henry Umoru & Joseph Erunke ABUJA – – President Muhammadu Buhari, has sent a supplementary appropriation bill for the 2015 fiscal year to the Senate for approval. The president, in a letter conveying his request, which was read Wednesday, during plenary, by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, asked the Senate to grant his request to borrow the sum of N2.10 trillion to finance the budget. He explained that the N882 billion loan earlier proposed by the past government to finance the budget had to be raised to N2.10 trillion, due to emerging realities in the country. The source of the loan, according to the president, would be from both local and foreign. Details coming- – Cc: lalasticlala http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/buhari-seeks-senate-approval-to-borrow-n2-10-trn/ |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration to show transparency on issues relating to remittances and operation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA). PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, made the call at press conference on Tuesday in Abuja. Metuh said that the PDP had watch with keen interest some disturbing developments in recent times, particularly, disagreement between the National Assembly and the Federal Executive on controversies surrounding the handling of TSA. He said that conflicting statements emanating from the Minister of Information and the CBN underscored the fear being raised by the Senate that there might be underhand deals in the handling of the TSA. “Whereas the Senate has ordered its committee on finance and public accounts to investigate the remitting and handling of N2.5 trillion into the TSA, the federal executive has different view. “The federal executive, through the minister of information, had earlier informed the nation that the sum of N1.4 trillion has been remitted. `The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) put its figure at below a trillion and announced an estimated collectible amount of N1.2 trillion,’’ Metuh said. The PDP spokesman said that the party was also aware that the firm handling the TSA remittances had been given the `leeway to rake millions of naira into unknown purses’ through training of personnel. “For emphases, we want to state that this company has asked the APC administration to charge Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to bring five of their personnel for training to understudy how to use TSA. “Each of the personnel are being charged N65, 000,’’ he said. Metuh also decried the inconsistency in the denials of PDP revelation that the presidency and INEC had secret meetings on the governorship election in Kogi to ensure victory for the APC. “While INEC out rightly denied ever holding any such meeting with the Presidency, the President, through his media aide, Garba Shehu, acknowledged holding the secret meeting, but said it lasted only five minutes. “We ask, who do Nigerians believe; the Presidency or INEC?’’ Metuh also alleged that the APC was now flooding Kogi state with money ostensibly to sway the people and purchase their mandate. “This primitive attempt at vote-buying is not only an insult on the people of Kogi state but also setback to efforts towards credible elections in Nigeria,’’ he said. He said that the PDP was compiling a list of APC governors and governorship candidates who were facing corruption charges, “not accusation as they are already in court. “Never in the history of this country have we ever seen any political party fielding corrupt candidate as APC is doing,’’ he said. He said that PDP would continue to show responsibility and caution in ensuring that only facts that had been verified by the party were put out to the public at all times. “We will not indulge in falsehood as we continue in our opposition role of putting this administration on check in the general interest of the nation.’’ Cc: lalasticlala http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/pdp-compiling-list-of-apc-governors-candidates-facing-corruption-charges-metuh/ |

Who wants the Deputy Senate President Dead? The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has said he narrowly escaped suspected assassination attempt yesterday. Ekweremadu in a statement by his media aide, Uche Anichukwu said the attempt occurred at about 10:00am between Apo Flyover and Dantata Construction Company’s yard, close to the Old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters junction on his way to the National Assembly. He said the suspected assassins operated in an unmarked, tinted, brand new, white-coloured Mercedez Benz AMG E63 and were chauffeured by a man who looked like a Middle-Easterner. "The vehicle, which was positioned by the Apo Bridge, on noticing that the Deputy President of the Senate’s convoy took the right turn to join the Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway instead, made a turn and attempted to ram into the convoy, but was blocked. "The driver, however, sped off to the Apo Roundabout and on sighting the convoy of the Deputy President of the Senate, violently broke into the convoy and made several frantic attempts to ram into the Senator’s official car," the statement reads. He said the development had already been reported to the security agencies. Cc: lalasticlala http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/ekweremadu-escapes-assassination-attempt-aide/119959.html

Chairman of Daar Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has debunked recent media reports that he apologised for the alleged 16 years misrule of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, as well as saying that the PDP made mistakes by fielding former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate in the March 28 presidential election. Dokpesi, who is Chairman of the Organising Committee of PDP national conference, in a statement he personally signed, refuted the reports, saying he was “not only an unrepentant admirer, supporter and die hard follower of Jonathan but, indeed, a party member.” According to the PDP chieftain, Jonathan’s achievements in many sectors of the economy cannot be overemphasized, even as he added that Nigerians will soon commend Jonathan for his sincerity of purpose in government. He said: “What I said at the media briefing was that PDP governments were run by human beings who are not perfect and may have made mistakes. I cited the example of the party’s zoning agreement nationwide, which buckled in the face of incumbents who had preferred and pliant candidates and went on to subvert the people’s choice on who to represent them leading to defeats at the polls. “I tendered an apology to PDP members nationwide for actions like that.” Dokpesi said he was not unaware of the tactics of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to “undo the PDP and set its members against one another in other to pave way for one party system,” adding that “such efforts would not see the light of the day.” He applauded Jonathan’s achievements in many sectors of the economy, saying Nigerians will soon commend Jonathan for his sincerity of purpose in government. He added: “I call on all PDP members nationwide to discountenance the misleading reports as the party has no apologies to offer anyone for its years of rule at the centre and a majority of the states.” Cc: lalasticlala http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/nigerians-will-soon-commend-jonathan-for-his-sincerity-of-purpose-in-govt-dokpesi/
