Members of the immediate family of embattled former Minister for Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, as well as her legal team are outraged over the recent visit of Nigerian journalist Dele Momodu to the former minister’s London flat. In an interview with SaharaReporters, Mrs. Alison-Madueke's Nigerian lawyer, Oscar Onwudiwe, asserted that the ex-minister never intended or authorized anything from that meeting to be broadcast to the public. According to Mr. Onwudiwe’s account, Mr. Momodu, publisher of The Boss magazine, “met (with Diezani) on a personal visit with the family.” He added that Mr. Momodu and the family had enjoyed a good relationship in the past. Even so, Mr. Onwudiwe insisted that no permission was ever granted to have Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s photo taken. He stated that the ex-minister’s family became “very upset” about what has transpired after the meeting between Mr. Momodu and the former minister. The lawyer disclosed that Mrs. Alison-Madueke and her family were not ready for her to make public statements yet. The reporting based on Mr. Momodu's meeting with Mrs. Alison-Madueke has stirred national controversy. In the interview, the former Minister denied ever stealing money while in government. However, a significant percentage of the Nigerian public believes her assertion to be untrue. When Mr. Momodu released photos of Mrs. Alison-Madueke looking frail and close to bald, reportedly on account of her cancer treatment in the UK, many Nigerian commentators on social media claimed the photos were forged or otherwise doctored in order to inspire public sympathy for the once powerful minister. When our correspondent asked why Mrs. Alison-Madueke was looking into the camera, if she did not did not give permission to have her photo taken, Mr. Onwudiwe was unable to provide an answer. SaharaReporters recently ran a social media poll on Mrs. Alison-Madueke's recent statements, with 87% of participants believing that the former minister stole public funds and was lying. When SaharaReporters contacted Mr. Momodu, he said he did not know who Oscar Onwudiwe was, adding that he therefore could not have sought permission from the lawyer. He added, “I do not want to be drawn into this controversy.” Cc: lalasticlala http://saharareporters.com/2015/11/19/family-former-nigerian-petroleum-minister-diezani-alison-madueke-outraged-dele-momodus

OnankpaBa:Unclad wire in his compound i guess. But yet, he should have use his brain. |
A 25-year-old student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, one Michael Loya, was Wednesday, reportedly electrocuted to death while trying to spread wet clothes on a naked wire in his compound at Gentle Villa, Gwallameji, Bauchi state. But in a contrary statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the State command, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said Loya was electrocuted while trying to reconnect electricity illegally in his compound. “Preliminary inquiry revealed that the victim might have been electrocuted while trying to reconnect electricity illegally to his compound,” he said. Mohammed said the Police patrol team attached to Yelwa Division visited the scene and rushed the victim to the Federal Polytechnic Medical Centre, Bauchi, for treatment. “Unfortunately, Loya was certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor,” the PPRO added. “The corpse has however been deposited at ATBU Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy,” Mohammed stated. Facebook Inc has activated its “Safety Check” feature, after deadly blasts in Nigeria late on Tuesday. A report on Wednesday in London by Reuters, stated that this was as a result of criticism from users that the social network was being selective. Facebook usually activates the feature, which allows users to mark themselves as safe, after natural disasters, but not bombings or attacks. It said the social network, however, activated the page after Friday’s gun and bomb attacks in Paris. It said it drew criticism from some users because the feature was not activated for suicide bombings in Beirut a day earlier. Both the Paris and Beirut attacks were claimed by Islamic State militants. Meanwhile, Facebook Chief Executive, Mark Zuckerberg, has said in a post on his Facebook page that the feature would now be used more frequently. He said it was decided after the Paris attacks last week, to use Safety Check for more tragic events like this going forward. Alex Schultz, Facebook Vice President of Growth, said Facebook decided to activate the feature as news of the Paris attacks unfolded because of the level of activity on its 1.55-billion-user network. He said people in Paris were posting to let their friends and family know they were safe. * Says we’ll hold FG responsible should there be any civil unrest Ahead of the Saturday, November 21 governorship election in Kogi State, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government and the Police Force to note that there is a limit to which the people of Kogi state can stomach the unlawful harassment and detention of its members in the state. In a statement on Wednesday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP decried that it was worried upon the Save our Soul (SOS) message from its Kogi state chapter, informing the national leadership that the Police is using men of a special squad, to be arresting, beating up and invading homes of key PDP members in the state. The party said information available to them shows that Police operatives, acting on the orders of the APC government have been hounding, beating-up and arresting PDP members and supporters in Igalamala, Ofu, Dekina, Ankpa, Idah local governments and other areas in the state, ostensibly to intimidate and frighten the electorate and pave the way for some compromised INEC officials to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the APC. The PDP said: “We want Nigerians and the international community to note that this attack is a clear fall-out from the secret meeting between the Presidency and security agencies and INEC, which we exposed earlier this week. “The national leadership of the PDP condemns in the strongest possible terms, this reprehensible partisan deployment of state apparatus of power, which is a yet another clear indication that the Nigerian police may have become a compromised instrument in the hands of the APC federal government in its bid to forcefully take over PDP states. “This intolerable and provocative operation by the Police cannot continue. Kogi state is a known PDP state and our members and supporters as free citizens cannot be treated as prisoners of war in a state where they are clearly in the majority. The people of Kogi state are being pushed to the wall and we invite the entire nation to note the avoidable growing tension occasioned by the desperation of the APC to take over the state. “Consequently, we hereby state that we hold the Federal Government completely responsible should there be any civil unrest and/or breakdown of law and order in Kogi state or in any other part of the country where they have been exhibiting dictatorial and fascist tendencies.” Cc: lalasticlala http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/kogi-gov-poll-pdp-raises-alarm-over-alleged-police-harassment-of-members/ |
