Alaba was not neglected or overlooked. He wanted to play for the U17 and there is no provision to support logistics for a foreign based player to shuttle in and out of Nigeria in preparation for the competition.
He was neglected. Both for the junior and senior team while Austria snapped him up. He was the talent who got away.

Like I already said. End it there. No way in hell was that our expected tactical lineup at the afcon.

The midfield needs rejuvenation but most of the tools are already there. It is the coaches that just didn't utilise them right.
That team against Guinea was the team which was supposed to start the afcon until the shamble display forced the coach to change a lot of the players in the first afcon match. Similar lineup displayed same shambles against Mali.

Anyways, the team need an improvement in the midfield.

We were to start Afcon 23 with an Awaziem, Onyedika and Yusuf tactically imbalanced midfield?? Do you realise what you are saying? Abeg. End it here.
Awaziem was operating as one of the 3 man defence. All had to be changed after the shambles just before the afcon. Similar lineup against Mali which ended in Same shambles once again.

Alaba u re talking abt was born n raised in Austria 🇦🇹
Alaba wanted to play for Nigeria but was neglected/overlooked, only for people to start to cry after he was snapped up by Austria.

I even sure say u no even knw the league and club he currently plays for if not that supernerd posted abt it few hours ago

Tijani won’t even mk current super eagles bench. A team that boast of ndidi, onyedika, alhassan and Onyeka in his position I wonder which one of them he can replace
You must be joking. Same Tijani who bossed Inter in the midfield? Dey play.

As I said, we've already seen what the aforementioned midfield you mentioned offered in the 2-0 loss against Guinea, at the afcon and after afcon against Mali etc. To think that's what you're banking on at the world cup?

And wait... you are telling me this starting XI vs Guinea was the team expected to play the Afcon?? A team with Awaziem in midfield? Sadiq leading the lines? Awaziem, Onyedika, Yusuf in the middle? Do you know how imbalanced that is?

Rest abeg.
Yes, that was the team which was to start the afcon (except for the striker) until the coach realized their shambles against Guinea thus having to change almost every players in that team just before the afcon.

I don't dislike Tijani. Already made the point severally that I rate the lad but the central issue is this. We don't lack his profile in the Super Eagles. Yes he can come in as an addition but not as one bringing anything obviously different.

We are not lacking holding midfield profiles in the Super Eagles. So don't make this about Alaba. Stay on topic.
I mentioned Alaba because that was how Alaba was neglected, only for people to start to cry after he was snapped up by another national team.

Point is the super eagle's midfield is lacking as a matter of fact. As I said, Tijani is a midfield talent with defensive astuteness, agility and technicality. So what's there not to like to begin with?

Using Alaba to make a case for Tijani should tell you just how dishonest you are in accessing both players' abilities and talent level.
What are you saying exactly? Wasn't the same Nigeria who neglected Alaba until he was snapped up by another national team and then Nigerians started to cry after he was snapped up 😂

Point is Tijani is a midfield talent with defensive astuteness, agility and technicality. What's there not to like?

Look at you talking down Mozambique as if Egypt or Ghana beat them at the afcon. Only Cape Verde could.

Onyedika was part of a make shift team that played a test game vs Guinea. Jpes just threw him in alongside Yusuf taking no consideration in the imbalance that was obvious. Trust me, if Tijani was picked for same game in such an imbalanced set up, he will fumble big. So quit this angle.

Onyedika-Onyeka midfield vs Mozambique was a true Clinic. Go watch it.
The team against Guinea wasn't a makeshift team. It was supposed to be the team which would play the afcon. Only the striker we could say was lacking. The match was just poor thus making the coach to change almost every players who played in that match. In fact, I said I wouldn't bother about the afcon after the 2-0 loss against Guinea because I felt if they could lose to Guinea, nothing was there to see at the afcon. Lol. Similar lineup in the loss against Mali.

Meanwhile, Egypt and Ghana were also struggling at the afcon and needed improvement. Mozambique match against these aforementioned teams were like two struggling oppositions who all need improvement. It's like you keep thinking the world cup is even afcon. Lol.

It's insanity if you think the Nigeria midfield doesn't need improvement.

He can be snapped up. We won't miss him to be honest. He is how old? 21 to be 22 by may.

Onyedika is 23 already this year and a much better midfield talent.

We don't lack a proper holding midfielder. What this team truly lacks is a manager who can put our midfield tools to proper use and ofcos a genuine midfield controller.

I rate Tijani but you are overhyping the kid.
That was how Nigeria lost out on Alaba who won it all. He started at Austrian league too.

On Tijani, he's doing quite well. 21 is a young age. He's defensively astute and technical.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DOptical: 7:04pm On Apr 24, 2024
TheSuperNerd:
There was no Onyedika at the Afcon in our games. Jpes benched him mercilessly. Yusuf also hardly featured. What you saw at the Afcon was not a true reflection of what our midfield should be.

Go watch the Mozambique game and see Onyedika in combo with a roaming Onyeka. You keep dodging references to that game.

Against Mali, we didn't also field our most tactically balanced midfield. Same with the Ghana game.

Listen, I don't know if it is personal agenda or whatever but be honest, Tijani does not bring better than what we have and what we truly need in the middle. I have watched Tijani probably more than you have and even reported his game briefly here yesterday. But I am not blind. I know the limitations and abilities of all our midfielders. Tijani is not there yet.
Mozambique team who were sent packing in the group stage? Mozambique need improvement sef. Lol.

Didn't Onyedika play against Mali and Guinea that trashed the super eagles?

You are only repeating yourself and what I have explained.

The whole point is Onyeka is not one to sit as a 6. And Tijani is not the guy to be mentioned at the moment when talking about improving our midfield plays.
Tijani is a midfield talent who's doing quite well and should be looked at. Point is the team lack a holding midfielder. I hope he's not snapped up by other national team like Alaba.

Yes, we need to improve the midfield. This entire thread will testify that I have harped so much on that more than anyone here and way more than you are doing right now.

And in truth, Samson Tijani is not that guy just yet. What he brings isn't on par with what Yusuf and Onyedika brings right now.

Unlike Nwakali, Tijani's skillset is already in the Super Eagles and those with it are of a higher grade for the mean time.
I have already seen what the midfield offered against Guinea, in the afcon and after the afcon against Mali. Even against 10 men Ghana! Abeg.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DOptical: 6:40pm On Apr 24, 2024
TheSuperNerd:
Onyeka hardly sat at the base. He was found there in certain phases of the game with Alhassan on the pitch also reverting between deeper and advanced positions (their heat maps show such) but he is no natural 6 and doesn't have the tactical positional discipline to play that role.

Even when Jpes went 3-4-3, it was Onyeka venturing forward even more than Iwobi. Iwobi stayed deeper as some sort of Deep lying playmaker (not a natural in the role so Iwobi somewhat was outshone in midfield by onyeka at the afcon).

So Onyeka is your perfect description of the defensive 8.
I have already stated that Onyeka is no holding midfielder but a defensive 8 however he was the one playing the holding midfield role while Alhasan constantly combed forward like box to box. Both Alhasan and Onyeka are defensive 8 thus comb around. Iwobi is no central midfielder but a 10 or a forward but since he tries to get on the ball, he moves deep at times even though he doesn't screen the midfield like a typical holding midfielder. I recall Aribo who's also a 8, (an offensive one, although defensively solid too) moving deeper to screen the midfield in front of the defence against Guinea Bissau since he recognizes that Onyeka combs like a 8.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DOptical: 6:16pm On Apr 24, 2024
TheSuperNerd:
By your example/expatiation, Onyeka is your defensive 8.
Yusuf's got a wider range of traits not limited to that role but which extends to the Holding midfield role. His early days at Antwerp gives a super clear picture. Yusuf ran things from that holding midfield position.
The fact that Onyeka is a defensive 8 should make Alhasan play as a holding midfielder yet it was Onyeka playing as a holding midfielder and he wasn't good at such role because he's not a holding midfielder.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DOptical: 6:14pm On Apr 24, 2024
TheSuperNerd:
You are making a funny case for Tijani.

Did you watch Onyedika in midfield alongside Onyeka vs Mozambique?

Did you take note of Alhassan's Positioning vs Equatorial Guinea? He wasn't outrightly playing 8. He double pivoted with Onyeka and just happened to get forward more often than onyeka did in that game.

Now, Tijani can't bench Yusuf in that role and can't bench Onyedika. I have not even mentioned the two big guns of the midfield Onyeka and Ndidi.

My brother, no chance for Tijani now except he massively steps up. The holding midfield role is not empty. We have Onyedika and Yusuf there as naturals.
I spoke on what I saw.

If super eagles team wanna improve, the team need to improve the midfield. It's that simple. As a matter of fact, if the coach hadn't improved the team with several players in the first afcon match, the team would have been disgraced like the 2-0 loss against guinea. We all know the midfield need an improvement as seen before the afcon in the 2-0 loss against guinea, at the afcon and after the afcon against Mali etc. The midfield need an improvement if the team wanna do well at the world cup which is even more serious than the afcon.

On Tijani, I'm only speaking on his ability. He's one of the midfield youngsters rated with top ball recoveries and he did look good against inter who are a decent team at least, considering inter just won the serie a.

What is the difference between a defensive 8 and a holding midfielder? Can you give an example please
Defensive 8 are more like box to box but are rather defensive, not offensive.

Holding midfielder have got more awareness than defensive 8 who just strut around tackling. Example of holding midfielders are Bissouma, mancity's Rodri, Declan Rice etc, although Rice can also play the defensive 8.

Did you watch Alhassan at the Afcon at all?? Vs Equatorial Guinea and against SA?

Alhassan is a forward thinking midfielder adept in the CM and CDM roles. Performs his defensive duties but also loves to deliver vertical linesbreaking passes.

And Raphael Onyedika is the best holding midfielder profile we have in Europe today.

Samson Tijani doesn't come close.... just yet.
I watched the Afcon and even some of the matches before the Afcon. Thus the reason why I noted that Alhasan looked more like a defensive 8. He and Onyedika played in the 2-0 loss against Guinea before the Afcon match and the midfield weren't as good. Onyedika was dropped alongside several players before the starting match against Equitorial Guinea.. Alhasan was his usual Hustle and bustle style like a typical 8 in that match (not the holding midfielder) like he wasn't the holding midfielder against Guinea before the afcon hence I saw him as a 8 however, In the subsequent matches, he wasn't as good even as a 8.

Anyways, the midfield problem continued in the Afcon, after the Afcon against Ghana and was even worsened against Mali.

I rate Tijani but please he is currently below lads like Raphael Onyedika and Alhassan Yusuf technically and otherwise in the holding midfield profile role.

So you are dead wrong to say the Nigerian team doesn't have a holding midfielder.
Didn't they all play against the Mali midfield which disgraced Nigeria midfield? Isn't Alhasan more of a defensive 8?

All I know is the Nigeria team needs a holding midfielder. It was noticed at the Afcon and against Mali. Even Ghana almost defeated the team despite being one man down.

I have got two theories which is either the Yoruba are ancient people or could be Hebrews who left Egypt at the time when the Hebrews were still in Egypt considering the Yoruba have got the same names for God as the Hebrews. Recall Moses also left Egypt and would have stayed where he was if not for the fact that he was asked to go lead out the other Isrealites/Hebrews. So either that or the Yoruba are ancient people doing their things.
Speaking of the Hebrew names for God which are similar to the Yoruba names for God.

Yoruba : Hebrew

Oluwa : Eloah/Elowah.
Olorun (Olohun) : Elohim.
Eledumare : El'Mareh.
Ìyè (Eriwoyah) : Yahweh.

Also the Hebrew belief in a messiah to be born of a virgin woman. The Jews are still waiting for their Messiah born of Virgin woman since they already crucified Jesus 😂 While Yoruba had their own Ela, the Word born of a virgin woman, Oyigi. Meanwhile, Elah is also the Hebrew name for God. Ifa also refers to the Messiah as Jewesun, the Lamb. In addition, Ifa also talks about how the Messiah spent 3 nights and 3 days in the grave before reemerging.

All these are really mysterious tbh shocked

Well, if the Yoruba are Hebrews, I can understand why same events happening in Judea was also happening in Yorubaland because the Hebrews were promised of the messiah. Either that or the Yoruba could be ancient people 😂

Speaking of the money spraying, personally, I feel the judgement shouldn't be harsh on first time offenders because it's not mutilation however look at Bobrisky with the 6 months which is quite harsh, considering many do spray money. Some say bobrisky offence is probably related to flaunting his sexual lifestyle) which the country law is against but then again, if his main offence isn't made known to him, how did they expect him to know that and realise that sexual lifestyle should belong to the privacy? Not like it's anyone's business but since the law is against such sexual lifestyle, I'm just saying and besides, it shouldn't warrant jailing him for 6 months, considering he's not married to any guy huh

Anyways, Bobrisky sentencing is injustice because many do spray money on normal basis.
