anyways you will hardly see farmers come here to share their daily or weekly profits made from their farms so to encourage others,

while some with nugget heads as big as a big water borehole will come here to analise even little things as soil testing,

but still lock his principles here with multiple codes,

telling you to go and make research and find it out by yourself.

Forgeting not everyone is been blessed with wisdom and the time to do all that.

Come to think of it, did you embarked on any farming project and it turned out to be a failure? If that is a yes, no matter how painful that might be, you don't have to feel so bad about it but you just need to improve your knowledge on the project through learning and work hard in order to make your next attempt on that project becomes a SUCCESS.

My first farming project experience back then in January 2015 was carried out under the watch (they were all physically present on the farm because it was a group project) of many of the so-called farming expats who are on Nairaland, and guess what, the project turns out to be a complete failure!

Few months later into the same year, I commenced my own personal project in the same location under the watch of the only one of the expat who's left with me in that place (as the others had left after the first failed project) and this time around there were other people like me who came to start their own farming project too and counting on the mentorship and guidance of this so- called expat and guess what happened again to all of us with our project? a total DISASTER!!! and One by one we all left the place.

To cut my story short, now over the years I have learnt a lot and I have found my area of strength in this field of Agribusiness and most importantly I do not blame anyone for my previous failures in my farming project.

Please stop this fight, stop this e-curses and move on with your life and it shall be well with you in your endeavors.

Hello house,

although there is where we normally get dry chicken manures for 50kg bag at 800 naira,

but i want to learn the process of decomposing and making my own dry chicken manure,

but the thing is i dont really know how many days, weeks or even months it will be dried enough to be used.

I need alternative so as to stop buying any more dry poultry manure since a chicken farm is not that far from my location,

but i want to know does it really take time to be dried or should i just better go and buy the already dried once been sold 800 naira per bag?

I need honest opinions from anyone that has gone through this before

Normally following a good decomposing process that I know of, it should take not more than 2 weeks for the wet compost to become completely dried up, but other major factors which I believe will also contribute to make that happen includes:

- little access to sunlight - not directly exposed to Sun though

-.the wet compost should be exposed very well to house-files and these will produce enough maggots which will aid the breaking down of the wet compost fast.

Likewise I have no interest in any further debate with you on this issue.

My point is clearly stated. It's safer to abort giving injection to your pregnant sow until when it's about to start farrowing which can be about the 113 or 114 day during it's gestation period, OR immediately after the delivery together with it's piglets which shouldn't be more than 24 hours

Note - To other folks out there, it's even safer if you take advice and guidance from a trained vet doctor before administering any injection to your pig. Don't just take any advice from anyone who has a farm at oke aro

You skipped the part where I asked for studies that support your hypothesis. We have been doing it for years and we are seeing the results. I have personally asked a number of farmers who were having issues to start injecting their pregnant sows and infant mortality dropped. This is practical, not theoretical. I have googled studies and I have not seen any where it is said that iron kills foetuses. Rather, oyibo themselves in some studies allow for the injections cos there is an admitted slight change in form in resultant infant birth in sows that were injected when they were pregnant. Over here, we have seen a huge change in form from our practical applications.

If I choose to simply ignore your post, you'll think say you don win, but the problem I can see with you is that your assertions are not right but yet you're claiming that you're totally right.

And judging from your assertions, It's a clear fact to me that you're not a trained Vet doctor, neither do you probably work along with one, but you carry out self-medication on your Pigs while relying solely on the information you get on google (Which you do NOT even properly and diligently go through)

You asked me for hypothesis studies but I'll humbly advise you to go to school to acquire right knowledge or alternatively align yourself with a trained Vet doctor and you can aquire some knowledge that way, should in case you cannot dilligently get that from your google search (but of course the knowledge is right available there online)

Now let me help other folks here with this info: You can only consider giving your pregnant sow correct dose of required vaccines (i.e oxytocin & prostaglandins - Please no just carry anyone give am ooo) during the farrowing periods as long as you've properly documented your pigs gestation days. Note: The decision whether to use prostaglandins or not must be an individual one based on veterinary advice and the results assessed on each farm.

This is actually a deep question and very interesting. This is a mini farm thread (pilot), and I do not want to derail it. I want these guys to carry out the trial using improvised method. If we start, we will derail it.

Why dont you send this problem to my agric thread, and I will do justice to it there. Many people will think twice on the choice of land they use for their projects. Since we do not have farm villages and big water reservoirs for farms in the Southern part of Nigeria.....we are on our own. And the choice of land we use is vital. As soon as you drop it there, I will give you solutions.

There are other practices that farmers adopt which seem innocuous but end up improving their animal yields even if its slightly.

Does it even occurs to you that giving injection to the pregnant sow can even caused any deformity to unborn piglets?

I will not say you should not use what you want to use, but you will have too many leakages you will need to block. Or maybe topgit gum can help out. And as I pointed out earlier, this option is worse than pvc as it is more fragile. You are going to waste too much time perforating irregular emmitter holes on it. You may think it works after installation, but trust me...you will see how unwise your decision is when you eventually get drip. Buy 0.3 to 0.4mm drip thickness (leave out 0.2mm), buy connectors with valve, and make sure you have end caps. Since you are using borehole, no need to add filter. Leave out venturi fertigation kit as it is one of the worst accessories in drip. I hate it with passion. Ask your seller for other options.

If you cannot farm now, do not. Wait till you have everything intact. If I were you, I would wait till I have mulch too. After buying my drip, seeds and some other materials several years ago, I waited six good months to get other materials. No need to rush. Buy your equipment gradually. If your land rent is cheap, continie paying it till you are ready.

If your farm is near your home or in urban center, it is fine. But if it is far away, I think you should have gone for a land surrounded by enough water (not even an open well is ok). Even after paying for this land, i would not use it if i were you after reading this post, and returned both gen and sub pump. Instead of buying Submersible pump and generator, you could have bought gasoline in-line pump (mud pump). You are going to save the cost of fuel, and pressure will be extremely high. I have used the two and I know inline gasoline is the best for any farm. Those using residential borehole made a terrible choice. I will take it only if the farm is in urban center and logistics and conveniency override cost of running water pump. I have met someone who argued with me that land near river is bad cos it is flooded during rainy season, and I smiled. Another one fought me cos she believes river water carries pathogens, and i said ok. Two of them are yet to start cos ths cost of digging wells on their farm is extremely high, and they are financially comfortable. Now, they are in tight corner.They may deceive themselves thry are yet to start cos of another reason, but I know that is the main cause, and they hace not realised it yet until they waste so much money. They will need to buy many tanks, and still will not have enough water. I do not need to be told that fruits and veggies are failure (except they downsize drastically) and most of the land area will become useless. It is what will definitely happen to them.

I pray the OP "@calixjabs" will take heed to these words of advice, else you're gonna have your self to blame for ignoring it at the end of your operation.

It's safer if you don't inject your pregnant sow but rather you wait for it to deliver it's off-spring and you immediately administer the necessary injections to the sow and it's piglets as well.

Meanwhile you should give the pregnant sow good foods (with quality nutrients formula) and adequate water (to drink and also for bathing to cooling off it's body)
