But I think it points to the abundant quality
of Gerrard that despite his so called indiscipline
the coaches are compelled to find a position for him.
Not that I particularly agree with Benitez or Capello.

Besides, the gripe with Gerrard is that he has too much to his
game. I would still take that over Lampard, controlled as he might be,
but with limits to his abilities.

Ibime:
I think what you mean to say is Gerrard isn't really the best at those intricate one-two's that are required when faced with
a congested midfield.

We have seen Lamps do the intricate stuff for Chelsea e.g last week. Not as good as Fabregas et al but he is competent at it. On the other hand, Gerrard is totally incompetent at the intricate stuff. I have never seen him play in tight areas for Liverpool. He is only good at driving forward an taking long shots. He is very unintelligent and tactically indisciplined, that is why no manager trusts him to play central midfield, from Benitez to McLaren to Capello. All we have had over 8 years of his England career is excuse after excuse about not being played in position. When he got his chance, Luka Modric completely played him off the park. Ditto what happened in Russia. At least Lampard did it for England for 3 years in 03/04/05. All we have from Gerrard is excuses over the last 8 years.

I guess any opinion will be subjective. . . .

I do agree Gerrard is a bit too Cotton Eye Joe in his manner of play, but at least he can still rely
on his athleticism to stay in a game where he is faced with players technically better.

No such recourse for Lampard.

The movement has been pretty poor all round from Chelsea.

I have seen Joe Cole play a lot lot better. . .  .

I think this game might also highlight why a Gerrard Lampard
partnership isn't the greatest. Lampard isn't really the best
at those intricate one-two's that are required when faced with
a congested midfield.

Malouda on the other hand is a PATAK. . . .he is really shite.
I might get some stick for this, but I think SWP should be the
next to come on.

I don't think the Chelsea players have played great
but the system is not helping either.

Chelsea have no width, and Wigan are simply congesting
the middle of the park.

Anelka and Joe Cole should look to go wide a bit dragging some defenders
with them to allow Lampard, Deco and Ballack space to bomb forward.

Arsenal did not play badly in my opinion

Needless to say, there is a lot of room for improvement.

@Dayokanu

I agree with you to a certain extent although you sometimes
overstate your arguments.

For example, Dortmund did run into financial trouble a few seasons
back, and the club is still not fully recovered.

While your gripe against English football might have applied a few seasons
back when Arsenal and United were losing to unfancied teams in Europe, you
cannot deny the top four teams in the Premier league are top echelon in Europe
as we speak.

The defender had to play that way because he was faced with
two attackers.

The keeper is a good shot stopper but his decision making sucks

The game really hurts sha. . . .Argies did not play great, and no work hard
for the win. Thats what hurts.

They can't possibly ask him to pay that and expect him to not be on their team.

Madrid I reckon are simply trying to save face. It must be embarrassing to them
that a player so publicly wants to leave their team for a rival.

How Drogba can be placed on the list ahead of Adebayor defies logic.

I thought number of goals scored is the primary index for judging the quality of a striker huh huh
